We really can get enough of this place. Great pizzas and staff. Everything is fresh, delicious and filling, but light. Our favorites are the Coppa, Polpette and margarita pizzas, plus the Ogliastro salad from time to time. It can be busy, though the wait is never long. read more

Ogliastro jumped to front of my to-try list recently when I did a quick search on Yelp for "food" in NYC, and it came up as number 1 (note: no longer the case). Now Ogliastro was already on my radar, but a pizzeria rated that highly that is also very close to my place? I took the next opportunity to check it out. The decor here has very much the steam-punky, dimly lit atmosphere that a lot of newer restaurants are displaying. Our server was new but assisted by a veteran, and they were both good. The place was very warm inside--likely due to the pizza oven--which was a plus considering how freaking cold it's been. Overall I liked the place but wasn't bolled over either. I got the reverse negroni, which is basically a normal negroni for some odd reason; it was very good regardless. My friend enjoyed her drinks as well. Their beer list is great for a pizzeria, and they had a pint of Founders FBS for only like $6 which is stellar. I got the burrata for my appetizer, and which the portion of burrata itself could've been a bit larger, the frisee, grape tomatoes, pesto and pizza bread that accompanied it was very enjoyable. My friend's spaghetti squash was very good as well, although the proscuitto didn't survive long enough for me to try any. I got the Vongole e Gamberi pizza (chorizo, clams, shrimp, peppers, garlic, oregano, creme fraiche). While I enjoyed it, it was definitely not a balanced or focused pizza. I normally wouldn't opt for something with so many items on it (the best pizzas usually have at most 4 toppings including cheese and sauce) but this place seemed like experimental, artisanal topping combos was their thing. The main issue was that they named the pie after shrimp and clams, but instead of a seafood focus the flavor profile was more oriented towards the chorizo, peppers and oregano. It also didn't help that peppers were by far the dominant topping. The clams were put on the pie in their shells, which is also annoying but otherwise besides the point; the seafood took a backseat. The creme fraiche was a wise addition to combat the peppery/herby flavors present. The crust was very good but not quite great; it was highlighted much better in the appetizer (even if there was a bit of salt added, a la pizza bianca). My friend got the dragoncello (lamb sausage, artichike puree, grape tomatoes, tarragon, pecorino romano) which looked good but due to its main ingredient being lamb, I didn't care for. Ogliastro seems like a good addition to the neighborhood and I will likely be back to try more of the menu (maybe something more traditional). However as excited as some may be, lets not get ahead of ourselves. What I tasted was good but not great, let alone best in city worthy. There's always room for it to grow to that but one step at a time. For now just enjoy it as a solid neighborhood option, and I'd be happy to report if there is significant improvement. read more

Love this place. Almost always packed for good reason not a vegan option but no worries still great food. Praying they bring back the spaghetti squash appetizer from last year but plenty of good eats without it. Drinks are always interesting. Solid pizza joint in Crown Heights! Perhaps not my favorite pizza in all of Brooklyn, but they have some good combinations and the crust itself is really good. We split 4 pizzas with 4 (starving) people and still had plenty of leftovers. We tried: + the margherita & salsiccia: nothing out of this world on these ones, but they were still good + rucola e prosciutto: the prosciutto melted in your mouth like butter, so this one was a good choice + giardino: I thought this one was going to be my favorite, and it was good, but all the vegetables were a bit watery/under-seasoned. Best part about eating here though? The massive wood-fired oven in the dining room, so you can smell all of the pizzas on their way to being devoured. read more

Our order for 3 guests: - 1 meat and cheese platter (there are two kinds, a smaller platter and a bigger platter. we ordered the bigger platter, and it was more than enough to share with 3) - 1 margarita pizza - 1 arugula and prosciutto pizza - 1 Peroni Beer - 2 beers called "2XMAS" (so incredibly good, in a Christmas-style beer sort of way). Now let me tell you, my mother is the BIGGEST food critic. If it's not perfect, she isn't happy. For her, all angles need to be covered. Here's my review on Ogliastro... SERVICE - the service was superb. the waiter had answers to every question we had regarding, drinks, food, and other. This may seem trivial, but as most of you Brooklynites know, it's tough to come by. FOOD - Overall, the food was superb. Meat platter was wonderful, great cuts of meat, awesome cheeses, enough to share for sure. Great appetizer. Pizza came out piping hot. Arugula was fresh and the prosciutto was tasty. Excellent pizza combinations and a fine wine list. We went with a group of six and sat outside in the garden at the back of the restaurant. The atmosphere was excellent. Our server was very helpful. We wanted a number of appetizers to share . She was very knowledgeable about the ingredients of each and had obviously sampled them. She spoke about them with authority. We chose the arugula and peach plate with a fleur di latte mozzarella (actually burrata). We also had a very nice burrata and prosciutto salad and a salad plate with kale. Next we ordered our pizzas. We had several of the margherita pizzas, one with guanciale (or as my daughter called it, "face bacon"). We also had a patata pizza to which my daughter added kale. All of the pizzas were well prepared, cooked in a wood burning oven. My only complaint was that had perhaps perhaps lingered in the oven for a minute too long. The guanciale was slightly burned and there were burned spots across the pies. The flavor was excellent. The cheese was excellent (I suspect that it was the same burrata, based on the creaminess when melted). We also ordered several bottles of wine during the meal. After we had ordered the first one, the owner/manager came to the table and discussed the wine choices with my daughter, who is the family oenophile. When the check was delivered, the owner sent over small glasses of a nice dessert wine, courtesy of the house. Service wasn't great, had to walk all the way inside before seeing the waitress/hostess behind the service wall, just not a friendly atmosphere. After much deliberation, we decided to order the chorizo and seafood pizza, unfortunately the waitress tells us they ran out. I think that should have been told to us while we were dissecting the menu. Anyway we went with the wild mushroom pizza, which was very lackluster. Everything was good, there was literally a few olives and one slice left over. +The space is nice, the temperature was right +We pretty much had the place to ourselves The minus one star: A manager contacted me two days before and left a voicemail. I called back and left a voicemail but did not receive a reply or more information. Due to the weather, instead of outside we were seated inside, in a back area that guests were not fond of since we were at separated tables. I can only assume this is what the call was supposed to be about. The manager was not there and Meghan was put on the spot, which should not have happened. The management should have known that on a rainy Monday afternoon, business is usually slow and placed us in the main dining room. In the time that we were there the only other patrons were at the bar. If anything, placing us at the front of the restaurant would have made the place look busy instead of deserted and possibly piqued the interest of those passing by. Bottom Line: Besides that oversight, I expect we will return. Everything was delicious. And, the timing on the food was great. We finished our appetizers. Then we spoke well wishes to my friend who is retiring from the teaching profession. Once we finished and toasted her, the mains came out. We had dessert. One person said they didn't want to dip their spoon into another dessert because they already used it and Meghan was there, within seconds, with a new spoon without being asked. We had spinach/ricotta pizza with some grape tomatoes added on, thanks to the waiter's suggestion. And speaking of the waiter, that guy was awesome. Yet I can't help but order the margarita and salsiccia every damn time I go in, which is at least once a week. Overall: I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the pizzas were very tasty. The atmosphere is simple but romantic with a dimly lit mood and candles on the tables. The music ranged across various genres and at times didn't necessarily match the mood of the place. We ordered 5 pizzas. Most of them were very tasty. The least impressive of our choices was the sausage and olive and the best was probably the prosciutto and arugula. Thin crust that's tasty. Came here one late Saturday evening after enjoying 1st Saturday at the museum. Many of the other restaurants in the neighborhood had stopped serving dinner but Ogliastro was still going strong. We were promptly seated though the restaurant was seemingly packed. The waitress was very kind and quickly arrived with water and menus. If you are not into pizza, you should probably skip this place, but if you are, it's worth a visit. They offer many varied toppings. In fact, the menu actually includes many bundled topping options. However, you can always create your own. These will arrive as pies, so if the depth of your pizza love is for individual greasy slices (one of my favorite NYC guilty pleasures) again this place won't be for you. If a pizza topped with prosciutto and guanciale are more your style, look no further. read more

What a pleasant Yelp find! My friend was in from London and she happened to arrive right around lunch time on a weekday. I found myself starving and playing unexpected host to an equally hungry traveler but all the good places in my neighborhood were yet to open. In a pinch, the Yelp app (shameless plug but whatever) came in handy and we went one neighborhood over to try out Ogliastro. WIN! It was great! It was quiet during lunch, there were about two or three other parties there, so my friend and I could linger over our meal and catch up. The waitress (doubling as bartender) was lovely and attentive. She also graciously allowed us to alter our pizza (I hate mushrooms, my friend loves them) without charging us for the substitution. I love when a pizza is well advertised! In other words: when a pizza has equal parts of all toppings throughout. The Patata was just that (including the mushrooms we substituted for the pancetta). The crust was crispy and thin. I might have liked it a liiiittle bit crispier, but this is totally personal preference and I'm not enough of a pizza aficionado to dare judge this minor point. What I can judge however, is the fact that both my friend and I inhaled our slices without regard for breathing. That Patata was very very tasty! Dessert was the surprise home run. (And on this I CAN judge from here to eternity) The chocolate mousse is marriage material. Is it legal to marry a dessert yet? It should be. It was rich and decadent without being over powering and simultaneously light and airy. That dessert alone would get me back in the door. I'll likely be back. Pros- The outdoor patio is beautiful. Good location. I loved the grilled octopus. Cons- The pizzas we ordered, classic Bufala and signature Raddichio were underwhelming. Service was not attentive. Overpriced for quality of food. While I did love the octopus, it wasn't really grilled and my friends did not like it. As for the pizzas, the Bufala was just okay. The Raddichio had way too much going on and none of us really liked it. We asked for things to be brought out as they were ready but they brought everything out at once. Also, the bathroom has next to no lighting. Our bill with tip was about $65 for 2 pizzas we didn't really like, octopus 3/4 of us didn't like, two cokes and water. Would not return when I move to BK next month. I could see this place being great for happy hour, however the deals are only at the bar, while the best part of the restaurant is the patio. The first disappointment happened when grub hub wasn't delivering today. Although they adertse it. The food is way over priced for the portions. I understand gentrification but geesh. I ordered two pizza's, a side salad, and a side of brussal sprouts. $69.00. Really. That's a small fortune. And I wouldn't mind spending it if it was worth it. When I show you what I paid for the brussal sprouts and the portion I received, I hope you are as appalled as I was. Also I had to "doctor" both the brussal sprouts and the salad. Ordered these two pies: - Funghi Classic Pizza​ - F​ior di latte, wild mushrooms, scamorza, and paprika. - Didn't realize this wasn't a red pizza, which is ok. Mushrooms were well cooked and I added extra fresh garlic so it was delicious. Cheese is very creamy. Good alternative for vegetarians. - Coppa Classic Pizza - Tomato, fior di latte, spicy capocollo, artichokes, and red onion. - Definitely preferred this pizza since it was a red sauce pizza. Looking for a fun place on Washington for a drink after dinner, we didn't find anything too exciting. That is, until I saw a tiny unmarked restaurant with bright red lighting, and we figured that's where all the fun was. We were right! A self-described "pizza bar," Ogliastro is cozy in every sense of the word. The tiny restaurant and bar was trendy and homey all at the same time. The decor was spectacular, with a lot of cool, vintage-looking pieces. Our bartender was very friendly, and poured us a mix of American and European craft beers from their taps. The loud chatter was equal parts English and Italian, and although were too stuffed from dinner to order any food, my neighbor's pizza looked delicious. I went here early on a Saturday night and it wasn't too crowded. We walked straight to the back where there is a gorgeous outdoor space with lights and trees that makes you feel transported. Looking for a relatively light meal, my two friends and I ordered two pizzas and drinks. They have cocktails for $12 and most beers on tap range from $5-$8. We ordered the Gorgonzola pizza ($15), which was beautifully topped with arugula and truffle oil. The pizza was thin-crusted, light, and delicious. We also ordered the Angello ($22) which was almost like a Mediterranean wrap, topped with lamb sausage, a light yogurt sauce, pistachios, and spicy honey. All of the flavors complemented each other and it was quite wonderful. I'm a little surprised it was priced so high but it was delicious. The meal overall was impressively good. I will definitely go back. The service was fantastic. Our server kept refilling our water and came by several times to check in with how we were doing. Great people, great food. read more

I found this place to be on the very bad side of extremely mediocre. With several quite good pizza places in the area, there's really no reason to visit this one. The good: Fairly nice aesthetics with the requisite tungsten wire lighting features. Nice backyard patio. My dining partner's pear salad was fine. His marinara pizza was ok too. The crust isn't amazing, but the pizza was passable. The less good: The first sign that things weren't great was the soundtrack. Beyoncé. Now I love Beyoncé (I'm not a monster), but she's hardly dining background music material. My cocktail was unappealing. The Gloria with bourbon, Campari, lime and simple syrup and some muddled mint was too heavy on the Camapri and a sour yuck fest. My dining partner's wine (vino dell popol) tasted acidic and bad. My giardino pizza was terrible. Like I was worried about food poisoning terrible (the low lighting kept me guessing about the state of my toppings). Happy to report I made it through the night with no signs of illness. On the pie, big chunks of zucchini and such were chilly, like they hadn't been cooked before being put on the pizza and somehow hadn't been heated through in the oven. Even had it been adequately cooked, the tastes werent harmonious. We ordered dessert to see if we could end the meal well. Nope. Terrible tiramisu. Or, to be fair, profoundly mediocre. Not poisonous or anything. It didn't taste like there was a hint of alcohol in it, nor any coffee flavor, and the marscapone, if that's really what it was, wasn't rich. Wow. I came here once for drinks back in August 2015 and always wanted to come back but never got around to it. I came back last night with my girlfriend after a day at the nearby BK museum, and this place is still a great bar/restaurant. From the ambient lighting to the cozy atmosphere to delicious pizza and charcuterie is what makes this place a must visit. We came during happy hour and all draft beers were 4 dollars. And the selection of craft is way above par compared to most bars. We ordered the large meat and cheese plate which came with 4 cheeses and 5 meats, homemade bread, pickled veggies, and fig jam. This was absolutely mind blowing. The pancetta was crisp, speck was smooth and tasty, spicy capocola on point, and they had your usual parmigiano romano and other italian cheeses. We also ordered the bar special of the night which was clams and shrimps on a bed of fennel with breadcrumbs. Delicious!
