I'm always on the look out for places that serve brick oven pizza. So glad I found this place! I came in on New Years Eve for a quick bite before the festivities. The place is dimly lit, bar type atmosphere - very casual. Pizza pizza pizza - my bf and I ordered two pies. One Margherita and one Spinach and Ricotta. These pies are on the larger side of a personal pie. I loved that they were nice and thin with a great thin crust. The margherita had a nice flavor but for me the tomato sauce was a tad "marinara like". The spinach and ricotta pie on the other hand had a great mild flavor to it, not salty at all. It had nice chunks of ricotta and freshly made spinach. Overall a tasty thin pie with a nice thin crust. Both pies balanced each other well and we will definitely be coming back when we are in the area. I hear they have gluten free and vegan options as well for those interested. read more

Everything is good here...especially the pizza. I really enjoyed the Polipo (octopus)-- it was cooked perfectly and the flavors of everything else complimented it so well. We had the Carbonara and and Polpette, but really you can't go wrong with any of the pizzas here. After our adventures at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, we wanted to grab something quick and light to eat before heading to the Brooklyn Museum. We didn't want to stray to far from the area, so we walked up Washington ave hoping there'd be a place nearby. And by nearby, we meant a block away. We ended up walking up a few blocks. There weren't many places to grab quick bites so we decided to not walk up any further and to just head on into Ogliastro for some pizza. We went in and were seated immediately. There was only one other person at the bar and I guess a few patrons seated outside in the back of the restaurant. We decided to split a pie. We didn't want to get too full because my friend wanted to take me to a hotpot place that she had been to and really enjoyed. We decided to order the Salsiccia, which was made mozzarella, homemade sausage and olives. We decided on 1/2 sans olives. My friend isn't a fan of olives. The pie came out about 10 mins later, expeditiously. I really enjoyed the pizza. The flavors of the sausage and olives paired well together.......To my friend: girllll, you don't know what you're missing..lol. Our waiter was very attentive. It's difficult not comparing this place with Barboncino -- they're in close proximity in the same neighborhood and serve the same thing: brick oven pizza. Furthermore, Barboncino is the big brother of all the brick oven pizzas in the area since it was first, and arguably, the best. Yes, it's unfair to compare them. But it's hard not to. My apologies to Ogliastro. I hope you understand: * Both menus are mostly just pizza with just a few high quality mouth watering appetizers. Ogliastro has slightly more items on the menu. * The staff at both restaurants are as friendly as can be. Love the people at both places. * Barboncino is a slightly more minimalistic pizza. Ogliastro is slightly more busy. * Both pizzas sure are pretty. These are pizzas you can be proud of taking to the prom. I dunno. Although both pizzas are phenomenal, for me Barboncino just works better. I think the cheese is tastier. I like the dough a bit more. Don't get me wrong -- I am definitely a fan of Ogliastro, and I wouldn't hesitate coming back, not for a second, but Barboncino is as good as it gets, while I'm a "fan" of Ogliastro. What would make Ogliastro 5 stars? I'm not a chef, so I don't know how to express "make the cheese more delicious and dough tastier" in a helpful way. Perhaps it should research putting even more tastier / gourmet small side items, like a gourmet Italian tapas. I'll tell you, that Carciofo is one of the best things I've eaten in months, and I would come back for the meatballs alone! I think this is an area where Ogliastro can really compete. Carciofo: A+ Delicate, yet delicious. You would be doing yourself a bad disservice not trying this gourmet delicacy. Polpette (Meatballs): A+ Somehow this isn't on Yelp's menu, but it had my 1.5 year daughter asking for meatballs all day long. Bufala: B- Nice, but a bit too bland for me. I didn't feel like it was savory. The flavors were a bit too weak. I think the sauce should stood out more. Same problem as the carbonara, except the carbonara was a blanket of spiciness instead of a blanket of blandness. Too homogeneous, which makes it uninteresting. Vongole E Gamberi: B+ I didn't care for it. It wasn't savory: the flavors were all too muted; they blended with the crème fraiche, and the whole thing was just too homogeneous. However, my wife and step father liked it, so I'm giving it their rating, not mine. I'd give it a C-. Carbonara: D I don't mind spicy, but the whole pizza just tasted the same no matter where you ate it. Spiciness doesn't work like that for me. Picante flavors should be used tastefully, to punctuate something interesting, not as a blanket to hang over the entire dish. The bufala has similar, except with bland flavors instead of picante flavors. Margherita with sausage and shaved Parmesan: A- My favorite of the bunch. It had distinct flavors which I could enjoy -- definitely more sophisticated and less homogeneous than the other pizzas. I wish the Parmesan was stronger -- perhaps they should offer Romano? Apparently I am one of the last animals in Brooklyn that still eats gluten. For the rest of you, this place has damn good gluten-free pizza. As a consumer of wheat, I have to say, it doesn't feel like a trade-off, it's just good pizza. We almost always get the Spinaci pizza, and add prosciutto or some other sort of meat. The Carbonara is also great, as is the burrata appetizer. They cocktails are really good, and they have a fantastic wine selection. If there's anything better than drinking dry Lambrusco in the gorgeous backyard of this lovely place in the summer, don't tell me. read more

Upon entering Ogliastro, we stood awkwardly at the front for 6 or 7 minutes waiting to be acknowledged by someone. There were at least 3 employees hanging out behind the bar, 2 or 3 hovering toward the back of the restaurant, and 1 who was actually working, serving tables. Most of them made eye contact with us at some point, but not one of them even as much as said hello or asked us if we needed to be seated. Eventually we walked to the congregation in the back and asked if we were supposed to seat ourselves. We were told no and then were escorted to a table in the back patio. The back patio is nice. It's large with plenty of tables and string lights for when it gets dark. If it hadn't been completely riddled with screaming children running around, it would have actually been a pleasant atmosphere. Our server was okay. She was timely, which I appreciated, though wasn't particularly friendly. We ordered the salciccia pizza which has tomato, fior di latte (i.e. mozzarella), housemade sausage, and olives. I liked it. Not outstanding in any way, but pretty solid. Barboncino on Franklin is better. The army of tykes filed out by the time it got dark, around 8pm-ish. So if you're coming with friends or a date, go later in the evening. And if you're coming with kids, keep the little sh*ts in line! If Ogliastro hires a host and gives their servers some Danny Meyer hospitality training, they'll be great. read more

I love a restaurant with a big bar and one has a beautiful marble one. The space is a really nice sophisticated take on Brooklyn "rustic industrial" with a lot of wood and tile mixed with metal. The patio is spacious and a lot more swank than you'd expect next to Tom's diner. The cocktails are really great. I had a peach julep that was icey and refreshing for a summer night. They have a lot of beer on tap. It's almost half swank bar. I had two of the pizzas. A Gorgonzola covered in arugula and a veggie pesto pizza. Both were good. The pesto was really fresh like I'd make at home. I should have tried a margarita as a benchmark but I thought they were good. I have yet to have a bad meal at Ogliastro, and in fact I think it is impossible to do so. The main move to make is to get a few pizzas for the table and share. My favorites include the spinaci e ricotta and the salsiccia off of the classic side of their pizza menu. The signature pizzas feature more exciting toppings and configurations, so don't sleep on those either. Ogliastro has the vibe of a neighborhood favorite that caters to many dining needs: come here from dinner, for a date, for brunch, or have a solo meal at the bar. The staff is friendly and I've never had an issue with service. When it's nice out grab a seat in the backyard--you'll feel as if you've left the city for your meal! It is a very cozy place with a beautiful marble bar. The pizzas were great. The crust was perfectly done and there were interesting combinations. They specialize in a seafood pie that looked beautiful and delicious but the clams are in their shells. That makes it a bit difficult to eat. We had the mushroom white pie and it is good for two people plus apps. We shared the Kale and bacon salad which was huge and had a really nice dressing. We also had the fava bean, peas and mint appetizer which was a nice size and very tasty. The drinks were inventive but a bit pricey for Brooklyn. I went here for an early dinner on a Saturday and had a good time, but overall it felt a little overpriced and the quality was mixed. Highlights -- the starters here were tasty. We had the meatballs, octopus, and arugula & pear salad. All were good. If I go back I'll probably just stick to this part of the menu. We were also in at a weird time, pre-dinner but not close enough to our dinner plans to not eat. So we popped in here for a wine and a bite. I was with a friend who is gluten free so we got a Bufala pizza with gluten free crust. The pizza was super light and delicious. They also have a chili oili you can request and it was SO yummy. The gluten free crust was impressive, too. It was a lil crispy, a lil chewy and went well with everything. For drinks, we had the lambrusco. Since we discovered this place (probably about two months ago) we have been probably a dozen times. There is no better brick oven pizza in all of Brooklyn- and we've been to them all (including Lucali). Do yourself a favor, and order the Carbonara, and a bottle of the house red. I feel bad leaving this review since the waitress was so nice and helpful! But... the place looks cute upon entering. But closer inspection and it's pretty dirty! If I hadn't forgotten my phone in the car I would have snapped a picture of the light fixtures above the table and the mounds of dust accumulated! I had already eaten and became grossed out. The pizza... margarita was good (but lots of burnt ends.) We tried the raddichio arrosto. Let me tell you, it lacked flavor! Needed more cheese/balsamic and a whole lot less of the radish! Unfortunately it was raining, so my boyfriend and I couldn't sit in the delightful looking courtyard, but we still had a wonderful evening. Rather than waiting for an hour to dine at Tom's, what you should be doing is grabbing at seat next door at Ogliastro. The restaurant is known for its brick oven pizza, but when I went in recently for brunch there were different items on the menu that made it impossible to order just one thing. Thankfully my kids were in the mood to share so we ordered pizzas and an Italian Benedict. In the end, I didn't share any of the Benedict and ate several slices of pizza. The food is just so good. The restaurant is family-friendly -- and also cozy and fun for dates. And there's a long, beautiful bar that is very inviting. A gem in the neighborhood. read more

Strolled in on Wednesday night. I've been on a non carb diet past few months so I have been craving pizza like never before. Before I even had a chance to look at the menu, I was told to get the carbonara pizza by the bartender. Carbonara pasta is one of my favorites dishes so I had to give it a try. I came here a couple of weeks ago and had an excellent salad and pizza. The back patio is so cute and decorated really nicely with plants. The reason this isn't a 5 star review is we tried to come back here and checked both google and the website before coming in and both stated they were open till 11:00 pm so I figured we were fine coming in at 9. When we came in and asked for a table the bartender responded by saying "Yeah but you will be our last table." She then proceeded to do various tasks cleaning the bar for five plus minutes ignoring us (and no other staff came out to seat us) at which point we decided to just go somewhere. Pizza is good just do not get pickup. I've done it 3 times and the woman on the phone will tell me 20-25 minutes each time. Twice I've gotten there after 20 minutes and the pizza was legit ice cold. The other time I waited for 25 minutes. Tell the girl that when she's on the phone to ask someone in the kitchen if they are backed up or not, how long it's gunna take and then relay that to the person on the phone. I want to give more strata b/c food is good, but service is very bad read more
