This is one of the dessert spots I keep coming back to. Compared to other places in Pasadena, it's a solid option for both price and quality. My girlfriend and I usually go for the injeolmi and then pick another flavor depending on the day. I was a bit disappointed to see that they no longer carry black sesame. I've seen people complain about the wait time, but the shop is usually run by just one or two people, so a line is kind of expected. If there's a long wait, it might be better to try somewhere else nearby.
Love how soft the bingsoo here is! We ordered a single serving of mango shaved snow and it was enough for the four of us to share. It wasn't too sweet or too heavy so it was a nice treat after dinner. The store is a bit small and it can be hard to find seating, but we came on a Saturday night which may explain the crowd.
I came here with my sister in a hot day. Definitely the place to be when we wanted a cold sweet treat. We ordered from the kiosk and waited at the table. It is a small place with some tables. The place had a a clean look to it. They also have free water. My sister got the Oreo tiramisu and I got the strawberry. We liked that they come in individual sizes but even then I think we could've shared. Both were super refreshing although I definitely liked the strawberry more because it was more refreshing.
My sister and I have been planning to try this business for months now! We finally tried it and it was worth the wait! The place is cute and intimate. Not a lot of items on the menu, making decision making a bit easier. We all got the exact same thing. Mango melon shaved ice. The portions are BIG it's definitely shareable, we honestly should have shared but we decided to each get our own. If I had to describe it, I would say the mango shaved ice was so light and fluffy it was like cotton candy but in an ice cream form. It melted on as soon as it hit your tongue! It wasn't heavy either, I didn't finish the whole thing but I definitely could have. Or was delicious and refreshing. When we asked for tops to get it to go, the cashier also gave up ice packs. I definitely recommend. And I'll definitely be back!

Light and sweet, though I wished they had more toppings on it. It was sweet enough without the condense milk. UPDATED: It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get shaved ice. We drove here specifically to try this place as kiddo and hubby wanted shaved ice. We arrived to a packed cafe but we still got in line to order something from a kiosk as the line wasn't bad. While the line was short the line didn't move very fast at all. All the tables were full but no one except one table was eating any shaved ice. While we waited to order an announcement came over the PA not to order extra fruit. Then a few minutes later, they announced that they were cutting off orders then another 10 minutes they shut down orders until 4pm. I'm an hour in and I still do not have any shaved iced. I don't care how popular or viral a place gets. When you have two people in the back and backed up orders that you can't fill, you simply don't know the operations portion of your business. You could pay two, three more kids $15 bucks and rake in more profits. Instead you have a bunch of pissed off people. Below is a picture of the shaved ice of the only people eating in the full cafe when I walked in. I wonder if we will ever get ours?
So we came today from an instagram post and so did almost everyone else here. Needless to say they were not prepared at all!! There was 1 worker all by herself and she tried her best. However we all waited well over an hour for shaved ice. She had to shut down orders because she couldn't keep up on a hot, busy Saturday!! We were told 20 min wait time but over an hour later, we finally got our order. It wasn't even in order since the lady behind us who I helped place the order got hers before all of us. 2 girls order 38&39 was waiting before us how why did 44 get hers before all of us. Who knows. She tried her best but needed help!! Once the owner finally showed up, they opened back up for orders even though they still haven't caught up??!?!! Who knows. As for the actual mango single, it was very refreshing and not too sweet at all! Great treat on a hot day. The food itself is probably a 4. However service and then having to pay extra for more parking since they took soo long was a bit much. We drive all the way from the OC so we had to be patient. Worth a try if you can go when there is no crowds!!
Gotta satisfy my girl's sweet tooth, so I caved and tried it too since it's in old town. First thing I noticed is that it's a smaller spot, so there wasn't too much seating available especially since it's after dinner time. I feel like they give a really good amount. We shared the smaller sized shaved ice and it was a perfect amount. Service was quick on the kiosk and it's bright inside. Thought they could use some decorations though. Melon shaved ice, 8/10: Refreshing and not too sweet. Probably what they were going for. They give a good amount of melon and it was sweet. Pleasantly surprised at how juicy the fruit was too.
I came with a friend to check this location out and I was pleasantly surprised: it's as good as the Koreatown location. The have a promo in which you get one large shaved ice (bingsu) with two drinks for just 26 dollars. It's totally worth it. Both drinks (Injeolmi Latte and Strawberry Milk) were great but the strawberry milk was better in my opinion. The whole place was quite busy and there was a line but we still got dispatched quickly and in a prompt manner.
my mom and I got the strawberry shaved ice, which was honestly big enough for 3 people haha! It was a stacked strawberry ice mound with plenty of semi-frozen strawberries and a little cup of milk drizzle which has a thin consistency to pour on top. You order through a touch screen and sit down, I'd recommend grabbing a seat as soon as you can because tables fill up fast + bring a layer cause you tend to feel colder when eating frozen dessert
Such a great spot that's totally worth the hype! The space itself is very small and was crowded when we went, but everything came out really fast. We tried the strawberry, mango melon, oreo tiramisu, and seasonal strawberry matcha. The single servings were perfect, and I would definitely be able to finish one by myself. I loved all the flavors, but the oreo tiramisu was my favorite. Would definitely come back.
Usually on social media we are bombarded with such positivity that it begins to feel not real any more. These seem like fake lives that people live online and portray things that just aren't true. We always see people smiling and happy and it makes us feel like we are less than. When I saw the photos from Oakobing online, it made me feel like this place couldn't be real. Like how could a depiction of food look this amazing? It had to have been AI generated. And even if it wasn't, there was no way that it could taste as good as it looked. To make sure, I had to try it myself. And let me tell you, it holds up. Not only is the presentation a work of art done by a real human and not artificially generated pixels, but it tastes even better than it looks! There wasn't anyone as glad to be as wrong as I was that day. Sometimes it's okay to be vulnerable and to show sorrow or anger or that you're upset. Sometimes, before you see the good, you have to experience the disappointment in order to appreciate what is good. But it's even better when something you expect to be disappointed by does the opposite and leaves you extremely satisfied! read more

Absolutely loved the super yummy Korean shaved ice at Oakobing in Pasadena, CA!It tastes so delicious, especially the rich sesame or the awesome mix of melon and mango. The presentation is very cute, and the texture is so nice - creamy and melting in the mouth right away. Though the line is long, it moves fast, and the indoor space is both cute and clean. They serve up your treat quickly, and the portions are generous - perfect for sharing with the family! Here is what I got: Sesame shaved ice : Each spoon has such a rich sesame flavor; love it. it's sweet and earthy. Eating it with the red bean pastes and mochi on the side is a nice match. Mango & Melon shaved ice: Oakobing's Mango & Melon shaved ice is a burst of tropical paradise! The sweet and juicy combination of mango and melon was so amazing, refreshing, and at the perfect sweetness level. Solid 5 stars! Sesame flavor is delicious with red bean topping. the single portion was a really filling treat shared among the two of us! We did get a pretty skimpy amount of mochi topping for what I payed. Ordered at the same time as my friend, except her order came with too much mochi and we only got 4 pieces. Would've been tastier if it had come with a little more toppings. We ordered to go and ate at the park. the dining setting is not that comfortable but i recommend taking it to go read more
Should you try this place? Yes Should you get off the comfortable couch right now and drive to Oakobing? Also Yes. My partner and I decided to do a late night run for some ice cream/shaved ice. I will say, this did not disappoint. The best way I can describe the texture of the shaved ice is: it's similar to fresh snow. Really! And the flavors are amazing, I am definitely going back. Oakobing has opened in Pasadena and if you have had this in Koreatown it is the same store just in a different location. This store in Pasadena is quite a lot smaller than their K-town location. There are limited seats and the whole place is just only a few steps in and out. We came here after dinner with five people and decided to order some dessert from here. Mango melon is I believe the most popular one and I have tried it at the Ktown location. So this time around I wanted to enjoy the black sesame. My friend had ordered the drink and another had ordered the melon. It came out quickly. The only qualm I have is the location size is just too small. So many people would love to enjoy this place but the seating isn't enough. read more
The place is a bit small and we had to find a metered parking spot on the side of the road, but we were able to make it to this Oakabing location without any trouble. The interior is pretty tight with a small seating area outside with limited seating inside of the shop. The service is a kiosk with a pretty quick time for preparation. My party ordered the melon and the Oreo bingsu with several different toppings added. I think that the price for the dessert seems fine, but the extra toppings definitely have a bit of a pricier feel that I would feel better about if it wasn't as expensive. The melon flavored bingsu was light and refreshing with the fruit and the presentation is very cute in the half melon bowl. The condensed milk added a bit more flavor and the mochi paired well with the texture to the shaved ice. The Oreo had a coffee shot, condensed milk, oreo crumbs, cocoa powder and mochi. I enjoyed the flavor of the Oreo one more than the melon one because it tasted like a tiramisu and had great texture with soft and chewy with the harder cookie crumbs. Overall, the desserts were yummy with a bit pricier range, but I think it's a nice end to a night out. I'd come back if I was in the area and craved some shaved ice. read more
Food - 4/5 I've tried the mango melon, strawberry, black sesame and injeolmi and think that the strawberry is the best. A perfectly light and sweet treat with a mix of fruit makes this the perfect treat. Service - 4/5 You order at a kiosk so there isn't much human interaction. I will note that the default portions are massive and so I always opt for the single size and even that is perfect for eating alone or sharing. Ambience - 4/5 There isn't much seating in this spot so it can be competitive to find a seat. Additionally it can be loud between the guest enjoying their cold treats and the machines making everything. There isn't someone who (i've noticed in the few times coming) that comes around cleaning up tables so I've definitely had to clean up after others or would sit at a sticky table. read more
If you ever find yourself looking for a sweet treat in Pasadena, I strongly recommend Oakobing. Their flavors are simple, but at the same time so elevated in presentation and taste. I've tried a good amount of their bingsoo flavors, but mango melon is by far my favorite. It is light and pairs so well with the refreshing scoops of melon. I usually get the single mango melon shaved ice, and I can easily share it with a 2 or 3 people. I really feel like I get my moneys worth here! The only downside that I would mention is that the store is small and that there is limited seating. Sometimes the line to order gets pretty long, so the shop feels extremely cramped and chaotic. The tables don't seem to be bussed regularly because they're often sticky from remnants of prior guests. Parking: In general, parking in Pasadena is not ideal. Most, if not all parking structures require pay and so does street parking. I know that the De Lacey Parking Structure is $1 for the first 2 hours and is about a 5-10 minute walk from Oakobing. Old Town Pasadena is so beautiful (especially at night) and full of character so this walk doesn't bother me at all! read more

Great korean shave iced. Location is small but service is fast. So turn around is fast. Depend of how long the people sit. Parking is limited. Parking garage nearby within walking distance. If you lucky, you get the street parking. Free at night. read more
I am soooo so happy there is an Oakobing in Pasadena! I frequent the Howlin Ray's down the street but didn't find out until this weekend that Oakobing was nearby. I dragged my dad and brother to take me and was pleasantly surprised to know that they also enjoyed the bingsu. My brother ordered the americano and finished it within minutes. Great experience and I can't wait to come again! read more
Fairly good (but only 4 stars because my heart is with another shaved ice place I like a bit more). I have been here a few times and all of the items are delicious! I will say though the large is the best option to share with multiple people and so much more worth it. The small option - I got t he melon one - comes out to be about $7.50 and although it says individual size, it is the perfect amount for 2 people to share. I believe the most popular one is the mango melon - it comes with mango flavored shaved ice and actual melon balls (honeydew melon). Every bite is smooth and even good on a cold night right after dinner. If I am every in Pasadena or the other location in Koreatown, I will always opt for this as an option for dessert! read more
ORDER green tea shaved ice (5/5) MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITEEE!! sometimes the green tea flavor isn't as strong, but it is so good and i love that it comes with mochi. the texture is soft and fluffy. the single serving is perfect for 2-3 people. strawberry shaved ice (3/5) this also tastes artificial and is on the sweeter side. it wasn't too bad, but i would definitely go for the green tea or mango melon instead. SERVICE (5/5) i order on the kiosk and just wait for my name to be called. the order comes out in a timely manner. AMBIANCE the space is fairly small, but there are seats provided indoor and outdoors. i usually always get lucky with a table. there are parking infrastructures nearby and street parking available as well. parking is never an issue to find. read more

Best Bingsu place in LA! Tried the DTLA spot too but I prefer the spot in Pasadena. The condensed milk gives the bingsoo a nice creamy texture and not too icy. The single cup is good for 2 people. Probably not the best idea to have shaved ice when it's cold outside but it's definitely worth it for how yummy it is here. Oakobing is unique (to me at least) in where they freeze their flavors and then shave it compared to the usual process of flavoring shaved ice. You can taste that difference as each inch of the ice is evenly flavored. Definitely one of the best tasting shaved ice experiences I've had. The seating area is kinda smol but it's cozy and you can sorta watch the staff make your order. I wouldn't recommend coming here in a large group if you're trying to sit inside. read more

My son's favorite dessert place! The fruit flavors remind me of delicious Melona ice cream bars. Mango melon and strawberry complement each other well. Given what it's served in and how tall the shaved ice is for the individual servings, sometimes the flakes of shaved ice will fall down onto the tray which can be a frustrating mess. I think a wider bowl may be easier to eat off of. Parking is better in the daytime. Prepare to loop around many times if coming by on a weeknight. Meters accept online payment so you don't need to worry about about digging for coins and I believe the nearby meters are free after 8pm. read more

Came here last minute on a late night crusade. Lately, it has been so hot. Decided to treat myself for no reason other than curiosity towards this new shaved ice place. Flew into the store right before it closes at 8:52 PM with time to spare. Parking must be extremely difficult during the weekends but during the weekdays metered parking it is free after 6:00 PM. Plus, the view of the Pasadena City Hall at night is spectacular. Highly recommend visiting the City Hall. As other reviewers have mentioned, you can get the single as it is enough for two people. Ordered the Green Tea Single Bingsoo. $6.50. The condensed milk was watery and the shaved ice was decent. It wasn't my favorite but it satisfied my cravings. The texture was light and towards the end the shaved ice thickened with the condensed milk. In addition, the taste was a little artificial to my liking. The price was so so. Would I come back again? Perhaps to try another flavor. Overall, the service was quick and efficient. This shaved ice joint caters towards a younger demographic and the place was not packed tonight. read more

It's a super cute place to get bingsu! They offer a good variety of flavors and toppings. I enjoy coming here either on a hot day or late at night. This place is always crowded and there's not many seating options, especially outdoors. It's a great place to hangout while enjoying some tasty bingsu. One thing tho is that the tables are definitely a little sticky which is understandable but would be better if they were cleaned more often read more

One of my favorite dessert additions to Pasadena! The single cup is great for sharing for two people and the larger one is great for like 4! My go-tos are the inejolmi (barley) and melon! Both are excellent flavors for those craving something more earthy or fruity. The strawberry one can be a little more sweet, but perfect for kiddos! The space is a little small and can get crowded at night, but usually people clear out pretty quickly. Another downside is there isn't much parking since it's in Old Town Pasadena. So best to park in a garage or circle for street meter. read more
ORIGIN: This location is the first offshoot of the original location in Los Angeles' Koreatown, which opened in 2016. CONCEPT: Oakabing is self-described as a shop for Korean shaved ice. The chilly treat can be experienced in a bowl or plate. Others describe this form of ice as Taiwanese: (https://www.eater.com/2018/5/24/17376180/shave-ice-shaved-ice-kakigori-dessert-bao-bing-halo-halo). Provenance aside, what makes this frozen treat different than other conceptions is that: (1) the base is composed of flavorful ingredients beyond water and (2) the ice is shaved into ribbons, rather than snowy flakes. The treat is popularly found as street food in warm weather in several Asian countries. LOCATION: The shop in Pasadena is located near an area that is dense with restaurants and shopping. In this way it is easy to stroll to Oakabing for dessert. Although there is some seating inside and outside the shop, the shop design suggests street food roots of the focal dish as it is a narrow "hole in the wall" kind of setting that is organized for order and pick up. SERVICE: There is no interaction with shop employees. The set up is to type in order into a computer, insert credit card, and wait for your name to be called -- at which point your order to silently shoved on a tray towards you. In this way the shop service is on opposite end of spectrum of nearby ice cream shops where shop employees patiently and enthusiastically explain and provide samples of flavors. EXPERIENCE: Despite ice cream samples being offered by several shops in honor of National Ice Cream day, I was lured to visit Oakabing by its uncommon take of frozen treats. This was an unusually hot Sunday afternoon, and every seat was occupied. I waited in line to enter my order into the single computer and chose what appeared to be most popular-- the mango melon. After waiting near a narrow, dingy hallway I received my order and walked outside to find a place to place the bowl so that I could comfortably try it. It was a generous mound of shaved mango flavored frozen milk surrounded by scoops of juicy honeydew melon balls and topped with a sprig of mint. I appreciated the use of thick paper bowls or, when ordering more than singles as I had, an actual honeydew melon rind, from both an aesthetic and waste reduction perspective. Besides a spoon, a small plastic container of condensed milk is provided to drizzle additional sweetness to the extent prepared. The quality of ice cream is largely indicated by the absence of ice crystals, with commercial fast freezing methods circumventing crystal formation. The shaved ice method here is oriented towards the opposite-- the shaved ribbons of frozen milk provide a crunchy, rather than creamy texture. I found this more refreshing than ice cream on this hot, dry, and cloudless Sunday afternoon. This method seems to still be uncommon in the United States, and I have thus far identified only a single location within a two hour radius of my home -- a shop in northern Queens. I look forward to returning next year and trying flavors and toppings that are more unusual to me, such as black sesame shaved ice. TIPS: The serving sizes are generous. Unless you are positioned to be able to quickly pop into a freezer, prepare for sharing with someone. If you value relaxing and the shop is packed, scout out a place to sit in advance in order to maximize time in solid condition. I was able to find some chairs and cafe tables in an alley that were not in use due to Sunday afternoon off hours. Just remember to clean up after yourself! read more

Walked here but there are parking garages around (unfortunately, this area doesn't have free parking anymore). It has always been crowded when we came and thank God it had four tables available when we came on a Thursday night around 8pm. It got crowded 20min later. There is only one bathroom in the back and it's not the cleanest but not too bad. You can order a smaller size (we didn't know and it was a very large portion) because we saw other people do that. I recommend doing so for 2 people. We got green tea flavor and it was delicious and came with red bean and mochi (perfect size)! Oh and it has a small cup of condensed milk that you can pour over. They do not accept cash, only card. And they let us know we clean up after ourselves (they have a trash with a tray collector area). It was pretty good, I would come back (average pricing, $15). read more

The shaved ice came quickly and we had to take it to go. There are seating for 12 people (6 groups of 2-3) inside and only a table for two outside. They say there's more seating outside, but we didn't see any. The shaved ice is good. It ranges from 8-10 before you add toppings on it. If you find a seat, it would be better. I thought the portion size would be small but the single serving shaved ice for the black sesame was big!! I was craving for something cold after eating ramen and found this place near city hall. A quick walk and easy to find on the side entrance. The place is very minimalist and self serving oriented. We ordered via the touch screen and I felt the touch screen was asking a lot of questions so kept on tabbing the screen. The ambiance of the room is in a c shape entrance so along the side of the central pole is where we sat. Black sesame is definitely worth getting and the extra sticky rice was a bit hard. I just spit those out. Lol. Overall satisfying for me to eat. read more

First things first! They have such an uncomfortable layout. It's so packed sometimes too that it's impossible to move or get a seat. The walkway is shaped like a backwards L, which will make you bump into people sitting, and that's already a concern. That's a fire hazard just waiting to happen. Service is alright. Basically you use a tablet to make your order which is fine. We didn't hear them call out our name when the order was done, but I noticed the order on the counter. The tables were definitely sticky, probably because they would be closing soon in an hour and a half. I ended up mixing hand sanitizer and water to wipe them down, so no biggie! The dessert can be quite messy. The bingsoo itself is great. Loved the black sesame flavor the most, but the injeolmi bingsoo was good too. Especially with the shot of expresso! They didn't really need condensed milk, which is surprising. I loved that it's so light and refreshing. And cheap! Not overpowering in flavors like most American desserts. Not overly sweet either. I would most likely come back only if it's not busy and to get it to go. read more

Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - single injeolmi shaved ice and single mango melon shaved ice. The ingeolmi is the classic flavor and really yummy! It's a milk flavored shaved ice with layers of injeolmi powder which is a roasted soybean powder that tastes similar to peanut with a lighter and sweeter flavor. The mango flavored shaved ice tasted really artificial and the melon balls were just slightly too big to comfortably bite. Ambience: 4/5 - small shop with a few tables and chairs in the front and a semi-open kitchen in the back. The tables were sticky so you do have to be mindful of what you place on it before you wipe it. Service: n/a - placed order at a kiosk so no interaction with the worker. Value for price: 3/5 - would recommend splitting a single flavor as it's a much bigger portion that the singles with similar cost. read more

Went to here because I was craving some shaved ice and looked for a highly rated location. Got there and ordered a personal melon shaved ice. I was worried about the big portions that I couldn't finish so a personal size was just right for me. With tax it came to $9.39 and that felt about right. I placed my order on the touchpad and got my order quickly. Would go more often if not for the parking in Pasadena. read more
No wait here in Pasadena!!! I love Oakobing in ktown and it nice that they have more accessible to me. The shop is tiny and seating is limited. I highly recommend the black sesame flavor. Also, I'd suggest getting multiple single serving rather than the regular size then you can try different flavors and I think it's cheaper that way read more

I love getting desert here and all of their flavors are so good you can never go wrong with any! The matcha and injeolmi are definitely my favorite though. Such a cute spot! Seating is limited, if you want to dine in you'd definitely have to wait for a spot. The personal shaved ices range from $7-12 depending on if you get toppings or not. The texture of the shaved ice was amazing it was SO creamy. You order through an iPad thingy which is convenient and our order came quick. I want to try more flavors next time!! 10/10!! read more

**MENU ATTACHED AS OF 10/10/2023** Great dessert but needs to clean up! Self-order kiosk so can't say much about service! You order at the kiosk and then wait until your name is called. We got the Oreo tiramisu and it is pretty big! I actually don't like tiramisu but this was delicious ! Came with mochi and Oreos plus a shot of espresso--we just had to buy the condensed milk for an extra fifty cents! The single serve looks like it's a little too much for one person to finish but that's up to y'all! Can't say anything about parking since we walked, but there is a parking lot and meters around. As for rooms for improvement-- these are super small but the tables are wobbly, the plates are plastic and move around, and the bench is a little unstable. I'm not docking a star for this but moreso the cleanliness. All the tables had dirt or liquid on it, so a lot of customers were jumping table to table to find the cleanest one. I'm under the impression it's not cleaned often but maybe we came on an off day? But overall would come again to try the rest of the flavors! read more

Old town pasadena has 3 free 90 minute parking lots ($2/hour after and there is a set amount past a certain time at night) on Green Street, De Lacey Avenue, and Raymond Avenue. The Raymond parking lot is closest to oakobing.
