It seems like three businesses in one: there's the donut shop in the front, a boutique wine shop on either side, and a great (breakfast) restaurant on the side(s). The food was really good and the portions ginormous. We didn't try the donuts, but I can imagine a line going out the door during ski season. Their version of the cronut was a glazed croissant which was very crispy and sweet which we enjoyed very much. I got the lamb shank hash that was very tasty and would order again. Good balance with the bell peppers and onions but could have used a bit more salt and maybe heat. We were here for both breakfast and dinner during our time in Vail. Both were excellent. The breakfast donuts were soo delicious and had a wide variety!! The cake donuts were so good we brought some home to Houston. The dinner was also wonderful - classy white table cloth dinner. The steak egg rolls were so good!! Definitely something to try for anyone who likes steak - great dipping sauce too. Our waiter Zeke was excellent for dinner very courteous and vigilant. We got a bottle of wine (duck horn Sauvignon blanc) so good, complimentary bread, the steak egg rolls, then my boyfriend had fettuccine which he loves and I had the filet with sweet potatoes! Stopped in here while visiting family in the area. The first thing you notice when you walk in the door is the huge case of doughnuts and pastries when you stand waiting for a table. We were seated immediately, and since my niece ate somewhere else, my brother ordered the Benedict that came with hash browns (the portions were enormous). I ordered the gringo burrito, grande smothered with green chile sauce. The burrito was enough for two! But, I managed to eat 85% of it. We were going to try to order some cronuts to go, but we decided to pass. Good quality food, pricing, and service was excellent. My boyfriend, his parents and I came to Northside Kitchen for dinner. We originally wanted to eat at another restaurant, but they only had late reservations available so we opted to try this restaurant instead. The overall experience was nice, but I gave it 4 out of 5 stars due to the food mostly. Some items were fine while other items were okay. My boyfriend and his mom ordered the Tomato soup while his dad ordered the French Onion Soup. All 3 items were good, but very salty. Drinks seemed to fair better as I enjoyed my Chardonnay and everyone else seemed to like their drinks enough except for my boyfriend who had order the Frostini (I believe). It was underwhelming, unfortunately. For the main course the food was quite good actually (filet mignon, prime rib, etc). The mashed potatoes were absolutely amazing! I think for the most part we all enjoyed our orders. I think the only negative was we all thought the sauces that can with our dishes weren't really doing anything for us, but at least it did not negatively impact the overall meal too much. For dessert we ordered chocolate cake, cheese cake, ice cream and one other item I can't recall. I think for the most part we enjoyed the dessert as well with one of the desserts again deemed as okay, but we had to order dessert in 3 different stages because the waiter would take off after taking 1 or 2 people's order. It was a bit bizarre, but I imagine he was feeling a bit overwhelmed with the number of tables he was working all at once. I think if you order from the main menu it seems like you are bound to like your food. Dessert and drinks could go either way (especially if it's a cocktail). Other positives: the man who seated us was very kind and pleasant and so was our waiter. read more

Great breakfast spot in the Avon area. I got the egg white sandwich on a croissant (usually comes on ciabatta). It was super yummy but quite messy and falling apart but that didn't bother me because it was real good. My partner got the breakfast burrito and said it was good but too much chorizo and not enough hashbrowns. The service was quick and good. So I found this place on Yelp on a weekend trip from the Springs to Palisade and back. We went for lunch on a Saturday and then because I posted a photo of their delicious cronuts on Facebook I had to stop again on the way home the next day to pick up some cronuts to take back to friends and neighbors who wanted to try them. The reason for the lower rating is that the man who greeted us both times was really cold and unfriendly and it really bothered me. He even walked away from me as I was paying on Sunday and never came back. He made no effort to connect or be welcoming and it felt very negative. But their homemade baked goods are delicious. I really liked the cronuts- the best that I have had- and their $4 sourdough bread was also delicious and very well done. After 2:00 the donuts and cronuts are buy one get one free. Our lunch experience was ok. They made my croissant sandwich incorrectly but eventually once they checked that it was their mistake and not mine they remade it quickly. They didn't change anything on our check because of it even though my husband was already eating his meal. The women working over lunch and cleaning tables and getting drinks were warm and friendly. Overall I think 3 stars is fair for our experiences but I hope they will continue to work on customer service a bit more. And way to go on the baked goods! read more

It is very rare for me to eat multiple times at one restaurant while on vacation but I just could not stay away from the Northside Kitchen. I stopped in for breakfast three times, dinner once and coffee and donuts on two occasions. I thoroughly enjoyed every visit. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food tastes delicious. The blueberry pancakes were a favorite. They were loaded with blueberries and light and fluffy. I loved the house made breakfast sausage and crispy bacon. They have the best biscuits and gravy that is made with chorizo sausage. For dinner I went with a seafood risotto that was loaded with lobster and shrimp. It was creamy and very flavorful. read more

We went early on a Saturday morning which is probably not the best day because it was busy. The atmosphere was charged with great energy and there are windows all the way around the dining area so there was a great view of the fresh snow falling. We each had coffee which was served in nice big coffee cups. Two of us shared the Biker's Benedict because it sounded big and it was! The waitress, Shasha, was outstanding and extremely efficient. I have to admit that I had my doubts about Northside due its proximity to a gas station. However after the owner handed out hot, fresh donuts while we waited to order, I knew we found a hidden gem. The huevos rancheros are the best. If you like their breakfast you'll be amazed at their dinner. Northside transforms from a cute breakfast place to a white table cloth restaurant. We ate here last time we visited Vail and loved it. Our experience this time was not so great. We had the Ribeye, Crusted trout, gnocchi with chicken, a Caesar, and a kids burger. The gnocchi was the star, we'd get that every time! Creamy, filling, delicious. Would be good with salmon or shrimp too. Caesar was delish. Kids burger was pretty big and cooked right, fries were gobbled up. My trout was good (I originally ordered the half chicken and then was told they ran out), but I'd get something different next time. There wasn't anything bad about it, it just wasn't my favorite fish preparation. I didn't care for the pomegranate sauce... the brussels that it came with were great. My husband's ribeye was the problem. The first time it came out, it was cooked just right inside, but the outside had an incredible char on it, almost like it had caught on fire. We sent it back and another one was brought out. This time the outside was great, but the inside was very rare. Had to send it back again, and we actually asked them to not give us a new steak, just warm that one up somehow so it cooked a little more in the middle. Anyway, an entirely new steak came out, the edges of it were gray and dry, again the char was on the outside. The very middle piece was right. It was almost like something was wrong with the grill...Like the flames were too high or the grates needed to be cleaned... Not sure what it was, but we finally gave up. Throughout all this, it seemed as though our waiter was kind of avoiding the situation. He never mentioned anything about it and was very short on words. On the other hand, the owner was amazing. Very accommodating, kept coming back to check on us, super friendly and legitimately interested in how our experience was. Just because of him, I would go back! He ended up taking the steak off of our bill, which we appreciated. I really do want to get here one day, early enough to try the donuts, so next time we'll probably try it out for brunch. read more

Visited during the "Mud Season", when many local restaurants are closed. Northside has broad hours 7 days a week, and a varied menu. Five of us had different brunch dishes, and all of us were pleased. Very tasty, served the way we had requested. Dinner menu is also varied, and at least during May, is offered with a 25% discount on your entire check including wine/spirits. We have returned twice and will probably eat here one more time before we leave. read more

From the moment we entered, the staff was friendly and accommodating. We didn't have reservations for dinner anywhere this evening and they were happy to squeeze us in. Famished from our active day and long search for a restaurant with availability, we were ready to get down to business. They had a few interesting options on their appetizer menu. We decided on the egg rolls and a couple of signature cocktails, which all came out pretty quick compared to the amount of time and care that was probably put into each. We had a hard time choosing entrees as we love pasta, cheese, and meat (who doesn't??) but finally settled on the gnocchi and bolognese. Both great! So great that instead of stuffing ourselves of the large portion, we tried to stop so that we would have a meal-sized portion for leftovers. Keyword: tried. It was hard to stop eating! We managed to salvage some to enjoy later and our wonderful server Eliana (sp?) packed it up for us. Throughout the meal, our server came by, to check in and never let our water glasses come close to empty. They had some yummy donuts on display near the entrance. We commented on how adorable they were. The staff was quick to offer a few to us at no charge which was really nice. Sadly, we were just too full from our meal to accept. We didn't partake this time, but we did see a number of people seemingly come in just to browse the wine and grab a bottle to take home. They had a pretty good selection. From the exceptional service to the decadent pasta dishes, we're coming back for sure. How this place isn't packed to the gills on a Saturday night, I have no idea! We had the best night!! The general manager was warm and friendly, he was so nice in getting us settled with 2 boys under 2. We had the BEST server! She was so very attentive, kind and enjoyable to talk to. My son had a burger which was great, with fruit and she had the chef make steamed carrots for my 9 month old to keep him busy. We had a reservation at 6 & found out they have a great happy hour for 3-6pm so we decided to arrive an hour early to take advantage of the HH specials. All wines are $5 off wells $4 off and a couple appetizers are half off. Service was great! Everyone had masks on & the servers even wore gloves. My husband had the elk Bolognese w/burrata on top & I had the lamb shank on top of grits. This lamb shank is exactly what you want in a lamb shank, it fell of the bone, fresh herbs were on top, the reduction it was in was amazing, I would definitely recommend & get again. My husband really liked his Bolognese. As far as the service.... this is the best we've had in Colorado so far! Four different people came by our table to ask how everything was, it's a freak of nature for that to happen here, most people avoid eye contact & do not want to acknowledge poor service or food but you can tell Northside kitchen is very hospitable & cares about their service.
