I was genuinely surprised to see this Nordstrom location has only a 3.4-star rating on Yelp, but after my visit, I understand why. What disappointed me most wasn't that the staff appeared busy or understaffed--it was that many employees seemed busy talking to each other instead of acknowledging customers. Throughout my visit, I walked through multiple departments without a single greeting, smile, eye contact, or offer of assistance. Twice, I observed employees standing together on their phones or handheld devices, laughing and talking about how much work they had to do while customers were nearby. Being busy is understandable. Ignoring customers while socializing and openly complaining about your workload is not. One employee even walked directly in front of me, stopped to hang merchandise on a rack, making me wait, and then walked away without a single acknowledgment or "excuse me." It was a small interaction, but it summed up the overall experience. When I finally reached the checkout counter, the cashier asked whether I needed help and whether anyone had assisted me. I told her no. She simply entered her employee number and continued the transaction without any follow-up or acknowledgment that no one had helped me. She wasn't rude, but there was little eye contact or engagement, and I left feeling as though the goal was simply to finish the transaction and move me along. It made me question why I continue to shop at Nordstrom. If the merchandise selection is becoming more limited in store and the customer service no longer stands apart, what is the reason to choose Nordstrom over countless other retailers? For decades, Nordstrom built its reputation on two things: a thoughtfully curated selection and exceptional customer service. Merchandise trends come and go, but the service was always what differentiated the brand. Unfortunately, during this visit, neither lived up to that reputation. I don't expect employees to hover over customers, and I understand retail can be demanding. However, I do expect basic acknowledgment, professionalism, and the feeling that customers matter. That was entirely absent during my visit, and it was one of the most disappointing retail experiences I've had in a long time. Extremely Disappointed with Curbside Pickup Service I've been a loyal Nordstrom customer since 2016 and have used curbside pickup since it first launched--so I know how it's supposed to work. This time, I waited 20 minutes in the designated stall before noticing another car pull up next to me and receive their order within 5 minutes. When I asked for help, an associate named Karly (I think that was her name) told me they "didn't get an alert" from me. She even had the audacity to question whether I entered a stall number when checking in--yes, I did, just like I always do. The app clearly said "Justine is getting your order." Karly offered to help and said she'd check on it. I waited another 5+ minutes, only to get a call from her saying the shoes I ordered were damaged and that she had to go downstairs to find a new pair. By this time, I had already waited a total of 30 minutes, was livid, and now running late for my family's dinner. Nordstrom Brea used to be my go-to location, especially because of their awesome customer service--but after this experience, they've lost me as a customer. This review is specific to customer service at the Brea Mall location. On May 17, 2025, I stopped by the Byredo counter hoping to purchase a lotion. The male associate informed me they were out of stock and needed to reorder. Since I was already there, I tried a perfume and sprayed it on a testing strip, he bluntly told me, "Could you spray away from the counter, because it gets sticky here". This felt incredibly rude and unwelcoming, and I simply walked away without saying anything further. From my experience, I've noticed a pattern in the Handbag Department that shows unfair distinction. On two separate occasions, when I was wearing a more visibly "signature" handbag, sales associates would either immediately compliment my purse or approach me, being overly attentive. In contrast, when I'm not carrying a high-end bag or dressed in more casual attire, no one even bothered to ask if I need help. This inconsistency in service based on a customer's appearance or style is very disappointing and frankly, quite off-putting for a store like Nordstrom. Danielle Thompson oversees this location and she told me that I would go in and exchange. I get there and no where to park because of construction. I call the store and Valerie says you just have to park and come to the third floor. I get there and she tries to give me a gift card and tell me I need go downstairs to get the sandals. NO, that is completely unacceptable and when I called Danielle she calls me back she is at lunch. It is 1pm and she told me her working hours are 7:30am to 4pm. She doesn't answer my calls because it would be recorded. I blame extremely poor management for this. I was completely inconvenienced. Avoid The Black Tux at the Brea Nordstrom -- terrible experience. The Black Tux location inside Nordstrom Brea is a joke. Nordstrom should either require them to have regular, reliable employees or remove them from the store altogether. I've heard great things about The Black Tux, but my experience was awful. The Brea "location" isn't even a real store -- it's just a few random chairs in the middle of a Nordstrom. I had a confirmed appointment for Sunday at 1 PM, but no one ever showed up. The day before, the same thing happened to another member of my wedding party. They warned me to call and confirm because their appointment had been randomly canceled. Unfortunately, the only way to reach anyone is through the corporate number, which means sitting on hold forever and still getting no real help. When I spoke with a Nordstrom sales associate, they said this happens often and that The Black Tux employees come and go whenever they want. He even apologized and recommended going with a different suit company. After being on hold with corporate for over an hour, they finally said someone might show up around 2:30 PM -- but they wouldn't be able to help me that day. It's completely unprofessional for a company that markets itself as a "luxury" suit rental service to have no dedicated staff or real storefront. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that actually values their customers and their time. I went into the kids department to exchange a pair of shoes. The exchange had already been completed online. All I needed to do was drop off the old pair and pick up the new one. It should have been simple. Instead, the cashier acted like he had no idea what was going on and told me the exchange could not be done. I asked for a supervisor, and he called Ashly. She immediately said they could not process it because it had been more than 200 days, even though I clearly showed her that the exchange had already been approved online. Then she changed her reasoning and said they needed to evaluate the return. I pointed out that their policy clearly states exchanges can be done at any time and that customer satisfaction is part of their policy. Rather than handling the situation professionally, she made unnecessary snarky remarks. In the end, she processed the exchange, which proves it could have been done all along, but I left extremely unhappy. There was absolutely no reason for the attitude or the comments. Haven't been to this mall in awhile. Lots of nice shops with some on the higher end scale (Tumi, Coach, Brighton, Apple Store and more). Nordstrom, 2 Macy's stores and JCPenney are the major dept stores there. Plenty of parking space available with 2 parking structures located at Macy's and Nordstrom. The food court is decent and my favorite place there is Cinnabon. But we decided to have lunch at The Nordstrom Cafe which had a line to order/pay... There was seating inside and outside on the terrace but it was pretty crowded. The mall wasn't too busy considering it was Friday around 10ish. FYI, there is construction going on... not sure if it's to expand the mall or for more restaurants adjacent to the mall. read more

Hi, I'd like to report a concerning issue I experienced yesterday, Sunday, December 7th, at around 11:20 AM at the Nordstrom Sunglass & Eyewear Department. I attempted to return an item, optical glasses, and the associate assisting me, Suzie, made the process unnecessarily difficult. She repeatedly insisted that she might not be able to process the return because it was a "marketplace item," even though I received the bar code through my email to return a Nordstrom online purchases and confirmed it could be returned in-store. During the interaction, her tone and demeanor came across as intentionally crass and rude, making the experience unpleasant. At one point, she asked me to come behind the counter kiosk, which made me feel singled out and as though I was being punished. This treatment felt discriminatory and inappropriate, especially given that returns are a standard part of Nordstrom's service and should not require a customer to be isolated or treated differently or be asked to come behind the counter kiosk where only employees are. I then waited approximately 20 minutes while she called management twice and put me on hold, only to be told afterward to "come back at a later time" instead of completing the return. This was extremely frustrating, especially because I told her my baby and husband were waiting in the car, and what should have been a straightforward return became unnecessarily stressful. To make matters worse, her male coworker apologized to me and stated there should not have been any issue processing the return, which further indicates that the situation was mishandled. This experience was unacceptable, and I request that it be addressed promptly. I would appreciate confirmation that my concern has been received, as well as follow-up regarding what steps will be taken to ensure no other customers experience similar treatment. Yesterday, I went with my boyfriend to the Brea Mall Nordstrom to smell colognes because we have an interest in niche colognes that include Initio, Prodigy, MFK, and other high-end colognes. As we first walked to the department, the first girl who attended us was extremely nice and offered two different scents of Le Labo. As she was getting those done, Linda, who was on her phone and looking down and not asking us anything, was asked by my boyfriend about Le Labo samples on the desk she was at. She seen that the girl attending us wasn't there and even said "The girl that was helping you isn't here?" But continued to help us anyway. So the other girl comes and gives us Le Labo samples, and walks away and we walk towards the other colognes, thanking both of them for helping us out. Then we wanted to get a sample of a cologne that we seen last time and Linda walks over and says "Oh that one can't be given out as sample it's almost out and so we can't let other people smell these scents" and we understood but I felt the passive aggression in her attitude because when we walked towards MFK, the attendant was so helpful and offered both of us individual samples. The way they (Linda and her guy associate) kept staring at us as if we were doing anything wrong, but we were quite frankly just browsing the colognes and such. So we decided to walk out because the energy to even browse was too much and we wanted to get a sample of Prodigy to test how it smells like at work or at a party, the reason those plastic bottles and caps are there for at Nordstrom, "Try before you buy!" So we decided to walk back in and not ask her questions because she was already rude, and seen was laughing and talking to her associate and as soon as we walked to the Prodigy bottle that still had more than enough, enough as the rest of the colognes in the department which makes no difference, and sees my boyfriend start collecting a sample, again, "Try before you buy!" And so she just yells out loud, sitting down, "Can I help you guys AGAIN?" Stops her laughter and work gossip to her associate, walks towards us and says "So we can't give out samples that have less quantity..." again with the first thing she said but she came extremely close and I thought she was even going to snatch the bottle out of his hands, which would've broke and then for sure no more liquid would be available to test. As it is she grabbed the cap and as he was collecting the sample, she continues to stare extremely close, inches if not centimeters away, then continues berating him and drops the cap so she's for sure irritated/shaken with us, but we're customers, and she continues to say things like "Don't you think that's enough now?" And my boyfriend said "Well it doesn't come out of your pockets," because we're not gonna deal with an employee that makes us feel less than and it's an understandable reason to snatch back and she turns around and shakes her head and goes to sit down. We were collecting a sample that the store is offering with their certain size bottles available... which should be smaller or not available on the floor for customers to grab... We never called her to help us out the second time, as she was not trying to help us the first time when she was looking down at her phone and asked wasn't the other girl helping us, and kinda dismissed us from the first cologne section, so for her to say "Can I help you guys AGAIN?" And come over and do the most for us grabbing 1, not 2, sample of the Prodigy. As we were walking away, Linda yells out loud "DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU GOT?" My boyfriend turns around, says the name, Prodigy, she stops talking, but with her associate are staring extremely hard at us as we walked away. With all the employees in makeup and facial products looking at us and staying quiet. Linda made us feel extremely embarrassed and super inferior just because we were looking at the colognes, after having a great experience everywhere else in the store and was even going to purchase the Wild Rush by Initio because I really enjoyed the scent from the last time we had sampled it. We ended up buying it at Bloomingdale's. This was our second time ever going to this Nordstrom and will be our last, unless Linda and her associate are preferably not there and the last three who helped us on the cologne side on our way out from the parking entrance are there instead. read more

Never shopping at Nordstrom again. I bought a pair of Gucci sunglasses a couple of years ago and never wore them until this summer. A lens fell out and I called Nordstrom to see if I could have them fixed. A rude manager said no. We tried our luck a few weeks ago and someone in the sunglasses department fixed them for us. Today, the lens fell out again. So my husband took my sunglasses in again to be fixed. He was told very rudely that: 1) they could not fix my sunglasses due to "liability " issues, 2) to fix them with glue, & 3) take them upstairs to LensCrafters. He promptly did take them to LensCrafters where an exceptionally nice and helpful employee fixed my sunglasses for free (something that Nordstrom should have offered to do). Guess who will be getting our future business? One clue: not Nordstrom! Who doesn't love coming to this beautiful store with gorgeous stuff to buy or look at. I have been to this Nordstroms for so many years I used to buy all my makeup here, but now I go to Sephora or Ulta since it's convenient. I love the kids clothes and woman's clothing here. I find random things here and there. It's a clean inviting store besides the perfume area makes me want to pass out from the strong smells. But other than that this store is gorgeous. I love the cafe, and the coffee place is delicious too. The employees are really friendly, always there to help if you need. In the kids section they give balloons to the kids which is so sweet of them baby girl always wants a balloon lol. I love that you can find everything in one place from, shoes to purses, clothes, evening things and daytime. They have makeup, clothes, shoes, and sunglasses for both men and woman. What more could you want in a store? It's beautiful, classy and clean. Love this location since I have been here since I was a teenager and had friends that worked here too. I really like Nordy's but I will say this store is the worst when it comes to cleanliness. The bathrooms are disgusting. Every time I use the restroom which is every time I'm in store, there's no hand soap, there's toilet paper on the floor, or none available for use, or no toilet seat covers. Second, they've lost what made them the upper echelon of costumer service of the higher end stores. It's been hit or miss. I used to work in costumer service for a health insurance company that insured the Nordstrom employees and we were trained to smile when a call came in for a Nordstrom employee based on the fact that was the way they would receive their costumers, well no longer. You're lucky if you get a smile from a cashier or attention from someone working at a department. Trust me I like to be left alone when I shop but it's still nice to see a friendly smile and knowing there's willingness to help if needed. Do better Nordstrom. read more

i "had" been a "super loyal nordstrom for life" type of customer for the past 48 years and always received excellent customer service to my complete 100% satisfaction at the store level and nordstrom financial services for credit card needs. however that iconic old saying "the nordstrom's way" started "crumbling" in june, 2025 when i started noticing customer service decline! then i read online that a majority interest of nordstrom corporation was purchased by a mexican department store retail chain named el puerto de liverpool for 6.25 billion dollars. the transaction closed in may, 2025. so this made sense now: a new owner and new policies!!! i was hoping for status quo! i was fooled and dead wrong!!! unfortunately, approximately a month ago [march, 2026] this has all changed for even worse news!!! The positive for this review is for Abby in fragrance! I bought a ton online and came in to do a couple returns, pick up another order, and find a new fragrance and foundation . Doing my returns was terrible. The woman gave me attitude. She was upstairs and it was just a bad experience. I ended up grumpy. I don't even want to get into how bad it was or I'll get upset again. I still needed to pick out fragrances and a foundation so I went down stairs and there was Abby! She was so friendly when she saw me looking around, trying to figure out where I'm going. I asked if she could help me with a foundation and she said that's not her specialty. But she was nice to show me who to go to. Later I went back to her to help find a fragrance and she was wonderful! She is so upbeat and friendly and knowledgeable. It's hard to describe fragrances and she knew so many. I came with a list of ones I wanted to try and she knew all of them and made recommendations based on them. She was A+ Customer Service! I've been shopping at this Nordstrom's over 10+ years and usually have a wonderful experience, but on a recent trip I encountered a very pushy sales lady in the jewelry section of the store. I can't remember her name, but while I was actively shopping she followed me between the jewelry and the scarves department. When I was in the jewelry side, she took my jewelry on a trey and told me she would hold it for me while I was shopping the rest of the store, but I was still looking around the other departments. I then proceeded to look at some scarfs and hats across the way, and she followed me in that direction and kept holding more things for me, but I didn't ask. Finally after I shopped the fragrance section I proceeded back to fine jewelry where a lady with long blonde hair approached to help me. We had a friendly chat, but the rude employee came rushing back from no where and basically told the young lady to move I was her customer. I eventually told the lady I was no longer interested and left the store. I did reach out to customer service to let them know about the situation, so I'm not sure how it was handled. read more
