I've been to three different JC Penney stores since Black Friday, after decades of hiatus. This is the best one out of the three I visited. I came here with my wife because I bought a watch for her at the Montclair location. The wristband needed to be adjusted to fit my wife, but that location told us they don't do any adjustments until after Christmas, which sounded weird. We came here to see if they can do it now, and the guy at the jewelry counter adjusted it right away. I guess it helps to shop at a more affluent area to get better service even if it's the same brand. This store also looks more vibrant compared to other locations. I realize JC Penney still gets somewhat of a bad rep compared to other department stores like Macy's and Nordstrom, but I prefer to shop here instead. I get a headache when I step inside a Macy's or Nordstrom because the whole store smells like it's been drenched with perfume. I think the selection is decent for what I need since I don't really care for high-end brands anymore. read more

I have shopped at this JCPenney location for decades and have seen this store go through a few phases of remodeling and shifting of their checkout stations. This is still my fav JCP location to shop at and I am always able to find what I need or am looking for. Of course with the times, the physical stock has dwindled a bit in store, but one can also find many items on their website. I often purchase items online, but it's just not the same as shopping in store. One sometimes finds great deals in store, and I also like to feel the material, especially as material has changed over the years. Sometimes the fit is not like I envisioned as well. Have purchased clothing from all the departments over the years, and used to also purchase multiple small items for the kitchen. The inventory for kitchen has changed over the years, but there is still something to find for the home. Their flannel bedsheets, that we bought years ago, are still one of our favs and still use them to this day. Each rack and display is usually immaculate, given the amount of shoppers who come through. Checking out or returning an item (either purchased in the store or online) is always smooth. read more

I came in looking for a dress shirt, and a Fedora hat. They had the hat, but not the color shirt I was looking for. The lady working the men's department was very helpful. She took measurements so I would get the right size. She said to try later in the year when the color I wanted would be in style. This is a very nice Penney's. read more

This JCpenny is very easy to shop! Everything is beautifully decorated and shelves are neat, clean and well stocked! I've never had any problems to find items that I want and Ive never heard that they are out of stock! They have a great selection of everything in a great value so there is nothing to lose. The workers here are very friendly and they have willingness to help you. Their sterling silver is my favorite place to go. They never change a color and I needed a casual necklace with a small gemstone and I found it. The store wasn't as busy as usual and it made my trip even more chilled! read more

Haven't been in jc penny in years and now I remember why. Even during the holidays, the place is empty, the store has a sad, depressing feel. I entered bc my toddler had to use the restroom and this was the closest one. The bathroom had no soap. The dispenser didn't work on the wall. There was 2 random soap containers that were so watered down, the liquid didn't even suds. I was grossed out I couldn't wash my hands or my child, so I found an employee and notified them, to which she looked like she couldn't care less. I proceeded to tell 3 employees that there was no soap and I guarantee you, there is no soap now. No one cared or made a move. The staff acted like zombies, no response. Seemed confused why I was notifying them . Unacceptable and also weird. read more

The people here are friendly and the product selection is very decent. The thing that stood out to me most was how well recovered the store is and how efficient they are with go backs. The associates were available to be helpful, but not pushy or bothersome. I got helped by several associates who provided great service, including a mens fitting room associate and a visual merchandiser, and Bshayer was an engaging conversationalist at the register when she helped me order something online that the store did not have in stock. Don't book outdoor photography sessions... I did mine in early November still don't have them . They prioritize indoor photos vs outdoor photos . My photographer was so sweet but I feel the outdoor photography session very misleading. They tell you , you will get your pictures in about 2 wks. You have no way of getting of hold of them. They don't pick up the phone.. please don't book with them. Save your time.. peace and money and go somewhere else. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE EVER DEALT WITH in the photo department!!! First of all, you're forced to signed a a fee sheet if you dont show or cancel right after you book the appt way in advance... key word: FORCED or else you don't get to book. Second of all, they do not put that you're forced to buy their digital packages when they call you just hours prior to appt. to confirm. Before I confirmed with this little girl customwr setvice rep (should have gotten her name), I asked for their pricing and how it works. I have never done JCPenny pics before. Only have done private sessions or picture people and now regretting I never stuck with my original photo places/people. So, third, since I didnt agree to their lower $180 digital package I told them I no longer wanted to move forward.. I wanted to pay by the sheet or by the mins/hour. I said since I was not informed of any of their ridiculous prices prior to booking and being forced into an agreement, please do not charge me for a cancellation fee. The little girl over the phone repeatedly said, "it was their policy". Then after I requested for higher supervision she said, "let me confirm with my manager but she'll probly tell the same thing so I will call you back". Then she hung up on me.. Never called me back and charged me for a cancellation. Working in customer service I was always taught, customers come first.. well.. never again. I recently wrote a review on the Santa Ana JCPENNEY store and because if the selection and service I received there, I decided to go to the Brea JCPENNEY store. I went for a pair of shoes. Nothing fancy but just classic old fashion quality shoes. In the shoe department, I very nice young man Juan Orozco was great at helping me find just what I was looking for. It isvhard to go into a shop and be treated with indifference as I have experienced at many "new stlye" store. Not at this store, Juan listened to what I wanted and brought me several styles to choose from . Then he walked me to the payment place. Thanked me and asked me to return. 5 stars for Juan! I called customer service and they said the same thing. The order has not even been processed but they wont cancel it. How does this make sense in 2024? Maybe 10 years ago it would. I ordered a ring 12/2023 and I called today 3/2/24. I called to see if the ring was available and the employee who answered the phone Cici gave me the worst service and the worst attitude. I know exchanges and refunds after Christmas can be hectic and wild. I want to give Liz at JCP returns (2nd floor and maybe a manager I think) kiddos for being amazing and extremely helpful during my exchange which turned into a refund and online order. I originally went to the store to exchange 2 pairs of mens jeans for the same brand just a different style. Unfortunately the store was out of stock of the style of jeans I needed, but JCP online had plenty. Explaining to Liz that only JCP online had the jeans in stock she went right to work. She refunded the 2 pairs of jeans, then place a online order and adjusted the price to the original receipt, because I redeemed some rewards that made the price of the jeans lower then the sale price. Went to JCpenny in March 6th 2021 with my senior mother and two of her friends from Los Angeles they are all 70 years old and do not speak English they bought clothes and came home and realized cashier did not removed safety ink pin from 3 of the clothes we had to drive back to JCpenny we drove 10 miles back to JCpenny and went to the same register where my mother paid for clothes and checked out without the safety ink pin removed I went together to complaint about this incident and asked for store manager and one of the person said I am one of the manager and we gave clothes and he removed safty ink pin I expected apology but he just said you can go to any JCpenny with receipt to remove those safety ink pin I say I will never ever let my mother shop from this JCpenny read more

Jc Penney gets 5 stars for me because of the things they do right, and things that are also out of their control. I ordered some clothes online and used there store pick up feature. Located on the 1st floor, I walked through the store and noticed how neat and organized everything was. After walking through the store I stopped by the online pickup place and was impressed with the service I recieved. The line was short and the process was simple. Lynne and leslie from the online pick up department were nice and guided me through the process. For me, getting clothes cheap and at a good price is a big deal, and with free pick up from online orders at the store JC Penney sets the bar for price and convenience. What I also like about this place the most is that it is one of the more convenient spots in the entire mall in terms of parking. The structure they share with Norstorms is one of the best places to park because of its availability and it's proximity to the store. The other day I needed to walk through JCPenney to get to another store in the mall. I was not expecting any interactions as I was just passing through. As I walked through the front door I was greeted immediately by a tall male sales associate who said a cheerful, "hello!" I figured he was getting off his shift and was excited to go home. I then passed through jewelry and another associate looked at me and said, "hello!" I started to think, "wow this place is so friendly!" I went about my business and upon returning to walk through JCPenney to get to my car I was again greeted by a different associate in jewelry and it made me want to stop and look around. I saw Sephora and decided to buy a makeup item I needed. The associate at Sephora was so sweet and friendly. When I passed through to the exit I noticed the man who had greeted me at the front door. To my amazement, he was working at the wrap desk and still on his shift! All of this friendliness and attentiveness shows me that the Brea JCPenney is doing something RIGHT. I will be returning to this store to buy more than just makeup. Thank you for exceeding my expectations and for making my day brighter! This review is strictly for the photo department. We went yesterday to take photos for my son who is turning 1. It was definitely a hassle as he was constantly on the move, but the photographer stayed calm and understanding. We got some great photos. But I have some issues towards the end that I'm very upset about. We were told we could do a beach theme, which was cool, we dressed him appropriate. We get there, there's all solid backgrounds. Maybe it was wrong of me for assuming. But I figured in the summer, in Southern California, they'd have some cute type of beach background. Nope. Plain colors. So we take the photos, and get some really good ones! Unfortunately, while this girl is working alone, 2 big families come in back to back. Absolutely no one is wearing masks in the first family (I didn't see the 2nd), and I think it's pretty horrible that one of the kids was coughing and she didn't say anything to them about putting on masks while they aren't actively taking photos. I had my baby there. My young, unvaccinated baby. Whatever. We move on. Then, she explains to us the pricing for the photos, which mind you, was listed NO WHERE on their website. She's trying to explain pricing while take photos of this other family, plus another family waiting at the end. What a mess. We went with the most expensive package because it included a canvas. We picked the biggest one (as she suggested) because we "got the most of our money." Looking back, even with a discount coupon of $50, we still spent about $300. So I just contacted JCP like wait what, what did I even pay for? The photographer told us canvas runs $100-200. So the customer service @ JCP tells me we paid $169.99 for the canvas, $149.99 for DIGITAL IMAGES, & $19.99 PER printed photo (12 came with the "package"). I think that's outrageous. The canvas is perfectly priced, but $150 just to keep the photos of my baby? Online? Plus $15 to take the photos? And $19.99 per photo when they send the photos to Shutterfly and I could've printed them out for CENTS per photo? I told the customer service it was ridiculous because there was nowhere to review pricing on the website and then we felt rushed and confused towards the end but she had 2 other families she was working with. There wasn't a clear explanation of what's included at all. I would've never paid that amount. Ever. The photos we got are cute, and I'm glad she was able to work with him being so active and crawling everywhere, but they weren't worth $300. The customer service lady says "Understood. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?" And I said not unless you're able to offer a refund for any of this since we weren't clearly told what the packages included. And she tells me she can start a refund for the 12 printed photos but I have to "damage them" once they arrive. What bullshit. They can't even offer $50 for the inconvenience of not being told what the packages were in full? If I want a refund I have to destroy the photos that are printed? If they wouldn't be getting their product back anyways, why can't they still offer the refund out of good faith or customer retention? Never getting photos through JCP again. read more

This review is strictly for the SEPHORA inside of JCPenney... I tried to return an item that I no longer had the receipt for. I did, however, provide my Beauty Insider account info at the time of purchase so it was in my purchase history. The woman at the counter (there was just one associate and I wish I had remembered to take down her name, but I did see she had way too much work done on her face) basically told me she could not help me if I didn't have the receipt or card I used to make the initial purchase. I specifically asked if she could pull up the purchase using my Beauty Insider account and she refused. I didn't realize until later that JCPenney's return policy clearly states she could have and should have used my Beauty Insider account to find I purchased the item. In conclusion, I'm beyond disappointed I wasted my lunch hour going there and she was too lazy to help me. read more

Ashley in the salon is amazing and does a fantastic job! She's given me the Olaplex treatment, a blowout and a haircut twice now. I have long, hip-length hair so it took about three to four hours each visit and she was so patient the entire time. She's knowledgeable and great at talking through what style you want done. Both visits she's turned my frizzy wavy/curly hair into soft, easy to manage hair. Love it! Also, I had my eyebrows recently done by Sandra. Another great experience! The waxing was not painful at all and she really listened to what I asked for. She was very detailed and my eyebrows turned out great! read more

I really want JC Penney to survive. There's rarely a time I go in there looking for something specific where they didn't let me down. Today, I needed a new suit, and quickly. Checked out Macy's which had some decent ones, but I actually thought Penney's had a better selection with a little more pizazz. They had the size I needed, and it was 50% off. The suits were fairly well organized. Sizes are always messed up so you can never trust the size ring. The dress shirts though - wow - what a mess! This was 10:30am on Monday morning in May and you would have thought Black Friday was the day before. Nothing was organized. I was literally digging through piles looking for me size. And I'm not joking - digging through piles. The employee at the register was super nice and extremely pleasant. It's honestly because of her, and the fact they had a nice suit, is why they've earned 4 stars today. Now, I know labor is expensive, but keeping the store shoppable needs to be a priority to stay afloat. I might have purchased more shirts if I could have found them. read more
