Wine list is nice, cocktails are well made. We started with the Server's recommended Roasted Beet w/ Goat Cheese Crostini. SO delicious and quite a hefty plate with 5 crositini! perfect to share. For entrees we got the Seafood Paella and the Seafood Stew from the night's special menu. Both were super delicious. The shrimp were huge & succulent. Scallops cooked perfectly. Wanted to try here since it's very charming on the inside and gives off a new platz vibe for foodies. It was slow so I got a table right away, I ordered the smoked trout sandwich/burger, plus fries. The sandwich was a great fusion of a sandwich and salad with all veggies it had. Smoked trout was very flavorful and no strong fishy aftertaste, the red onions were sliced paper thin so great since chunky raw onion can be overwhelming, mixed greens were fresh. Lemon aioli sauce was tangy and sweet. Bun was toasted just right without any burns. Mrs. Fairfax is arguably the best restaurant in the Newburgh area. It offers tremendous value. I had a delicious New York Strip steak with garlic mash potatoes and grilled asparagus for $30. Try getting something like that over in Beacon where the steak alone is $45 without any sides! Not only that, the restaurant reminds me of the cute neighborhood places you used to be able to find in New York City before it became Dubai-on-the-Hudson. Look. I'm a nice guy. I am blatantly averse to conflict. I don't want to be doing this, but I feel it is my civic duty as a human being to warn people. I went here with my boyfriend a few months ago and we were very happy with the restaurant. Great and very inventive cocktails, flavorful food without an exorbitant price tag -- not anything world-changing, but that's just fine. But me and two friends went there again recently and had what will likely remain the only, only restaurant food in my entire life that I have been unable to eat. I am essentially a garbage disposal and will eat most anything. But the pad thai my friend ordered recently resulted in an immediate expression of concern, even fear on his face -- whereupon he texted me the message "This tastes like wet dog." I subsequently confirmed that it tasted and smelled like wet dog, and was truly unlike any pad thai I have ever eaten anywhere; it only, only tasted like wet dog. I expected to cheerfully eat it and trade plates with him but neither of us could eat it. The meal as a whole was pretty unenjoyable, because despite being a dimly-lit cozy establishment that visually suggests "go here for a date or a nice family meal," the restaurant was blasting dance music the entire time at a genuinely loud volume. They played Darude's "Sandstorm." They played Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." What the fuck is going on? The food ranged from mediocre to, and I say this without any schadenfreude or gossipy pleasure, inedible. I don't like writing bad restaurant reviews. I still tipped 20% for the polite waiter. I don't want to kill an establishment. But this restaurant needs to close, now. I don't know who could enjoy eating wet dog-flavored pad thai as early 2000s dubstep is playing. read more

The Steak Sandwich was phenomenal. Steak wasn't overcooked (a bit of pink visible on the cut sides), and the aioli was flavorful and a great fit with all the other ingredients. We ended up walking out. My friends and I made a reservation to come here and eat. The vibe at the place is nice, and the drinks came out fast. We ordered at about 12:15, and it was 1:00, and we still hadn't gotten our food. The server never came back to explain what was going on, and she didn't even fill up our waters. We finally asked someone what was going on, and the bartender, who may be the owner, told us that the tickets got messed up and the food was just being made. We ended up leaving, and the table next to us did the same. I am giving three stars and not one because the owner did give us free drinks, and the latte was fabulous. Also, the food that one table was eating looked good. I know that times are tough for restaurants, and I wish the owner the best, but I have to keep it 100% with my reviews. I was a server for 10 years, and one thing that is highly important is to communicate with your guests. Even if things are going wrong, offer them what you can for free, apologize, and tell them the truth. Ignoring your guest will only make them feel upset and frustrated. Next time you have an issue, communicate, and you will keep your guest happy. read more

What a find! Well, we didn't find it--we simply took the advice of my bf's colleague, a Newburgh local. Apparently a tornado recently ransacked the town--the roof of Ms. Fairfax's building being one of the casualties. But thankfully the business is open and as good as ever now, with great people, great vibes, great drinks and great food. We came here for lunch, but I'm pretty sure they stay open for dinner and drinks as well, when all of the locals come home from work and whatnot. If lunch is any indication, I'm sure dinner is superb as well. Neither the bf nor I had ever been to Newburgh, so we had to fully put our trust in others to not lead us astray. We finished up meeting with the bf's work buddies around lunchtime, and they mentioned a few different places, speaking the most highly of Ms. Fairfax. The bf happens to be from Fairfax, so that one piqued our interest immediately. The space itself is adorable--casual but refined. Plenty of room for coffee-making behind the register, but that also doubles as a full bar for the nighttime crowd. There are a few tables in the main space but I gather there's also a backyard as well (we didn't check that part out). There's a nice variety of food and drinks here. During the brunch/lunch hours, you've got your usual barista drinks plus a fun selection of unique sodas which are both healthier and more exciting than your usual Pepsi-Coke spread. The bf went with a hibiscus one that he appeared to enjoy--I can only assume as much, as the glass was empty at the meal's conclusion. I got a matcha cappuccino, which was yummy. Our waitress/barista/new best friend graciously let me take a look at the type of almond milk they use because I'm one of those nuts with too many dietary restrictions to keep track of. She was understanding and put up with me better than most people can. Food-wise, there's something for everyone. Nicer than your average cafe fare (remember, there's a costume change after 5pm, which warrants versatility). I gather the crepes are fantastic, but the bf and I ended up going the sandwich/salad route. I went with the Fairfax Salad, comprised Grilled Chicken with Mixed Greens, Roasted Red Peppers, Green Beans, Cucumbers, Roasted Carrots and a Soft Boiled Egg, served with a light lemon juice/oil dressing (they'll put it on the side if you'd like). The plate comes in a somewhat deconstructed fashion, so you can mix components in as you'd like. This baby really hit the spot. Super fresh ingredients, well-seasoned chicken--pretty much my ideal lunch. It came out quickly and as you can see from the picture, quite beautifully. Before I leave you, I must give another shoutout to our waitress/caretaker/friend of the afternoon. She was super accommodating, really sweet and made our experience that much more enjoyable. Prices are fair, and I made sure to give her a sizable tip. Ms. Fairfax is absolutely worth a visit if you find yourself touching down in Newburgh! read more

Great service from our server but the food wasn't great. I loved the steak but there were zero shallots in the shallot fried cheese (mozzarella) (but delicious sauce). The lemon crepe was just a crepe with lemon juice squeezed on top, would've been nice to have zest and ricotta filling and/or whipped cream on top. Not worth the price. Great restaurant and staff but vegans be a little cautious. On two separate occasions I ordered an impossible or beyond burger and I was served a real beef burger. Wrapping up some late night work, just warranted dinner in the area. Rustic inside, but real leisure- it's almost one of those places where you just sit and relax because that chill vibe, just sinks you in. Online menu caught my attention with their chic twists with some international flavors. However, Menu in person, was a different story altogether and factored a late Tuesday, as reason for limited choices. But we made do with their condensed version. Our server, Daria was pleasant and also tended the bar. Mr. Man ordered a Blue Moon-type beer and my 'Laventini' felt good, after a long night. He went for the Brick Chicken and pleaded with Daria several times that he did not want the Pea Purée and assured my husband that there wouldn't be any. Great. I on the other hand, went for two 'Small Plates' of a Cheese Plate and Shishito Peppers...... Both were tasty. Cheese plate was nicely designed but the cheeses were so freaking tiny. Shishito Peppers, again, good taste, but lacked substance and looked like a bowl of mush (I think my taste buds got used to the well-made Shishito peppers I once had in City Island). But get this, Mr. Man's Brick Chicken, did arrive with the Pea Purée that he didn't want initially. Even so, The Man questioned our server- who seemed to play it off and fully dismissed the fact that he didn't want any Purée in the first place- but was on the plate anyway. That part, just messed me up. The Man didn't send his dish back as it was a little past 10pm and instead, moved the Pea Purée off to one side- and said the chicken was ok. Don't get me wrong, I really like how this part of Newburgh has really turned the dial up in a whole new way of eating up here. Ms. Fairfax was cool, but there's something really wrong when you request for an ingredient not to be added and end result is the total opposite. We were seated fairly quickly, however it took a while for the waitress to take our order. She was very nice and attentive but she was basically managing the whole place. I think they should hire an additional waitress, but just a thought. I ordered the matcha latte with almond milk, which was really really good. I could not stop sipping it! For the main course, my bf and I split the avocado toast and the caramelized apple crepes. The avocado toast was well worth it. It is quite difficult to mess up avocado toast, but this place did a good job with it! It was satisfying and tasty. However, I was not pleased with the caramelized apple crepe. It was bland and luke warm. If I went back, I would just get the avocado toast or maybe order a salad. Overall, I liked the ambiance and the drinks and for that I'll give this place a 4/5. read more

Although I've been in the area for a while I had never been to Ms. Fairfax up until yesterday. I really appreciated the ambiance of the place and the food was great. I got the bacon, egg, and tomato crepe. I really like how perfectly cooked the bacon was. What I really appreciate the most, was how friendly the staff was. We went to Ms. Fairfax 3 years ago on a trip to Newburgh, and enjoyed it so much we went back last week when we were visiting the area again. The food is creative and delicious, the bar is tops, and the staff is working hard to create a great experience for customers during a very difficult time for restaurants to be open. It's a laidback atmosphere, nice but not stuffy. We really enjoyed our drinks (lavender something or other and a Boulevardier), and recommend the delicious Couscous Bowl and Salmon. I'd love to see it all lit up at night. We ordered the BLT and a Cuban sandwich. The BLT was superb, the bacon was crispy, the bread was lightly toasted, and the tomato was slightly grilled or roasted. This was unexpected but added so much flavor.
