Strawberry walnut salad was pretty great! We got it to go and didn't get our dressing on the side unfortunately. It was tasty though and it had good portions of strawberries, walnuts, onion, feta, and other things. I recreated it at home and it was fantastic. I came here for the first time on Sunday for breakfast and it was nice and empty. We got seated immediately. From when I entered I was already in awe of this place. We walked into a Marilyn Monroe statue and a car on the wall!! Too cool. So retro!! Then I pass the restroom and there's a painting of Ricky Ricardo and Lucy!! Photo op!! As soon as the waitress came by I ordered coffee. The coffee was delicious! I ordered eggs your way (I did over easy), sausage links, fruit (instead of the potatoes or hash browns) and toast. I loved it all. It was a typical breakfast and perfect for a Sunday morning simple meal. It was a lot of food and I couldn't finish the toast though I wanted to. Our waitress was very attentive and kept coming by to refill our glasses. I loved the decor here and it's a cute breakfast place. First time coming and I rate it 4 star! Food: THE DENVER OMELETTE, Hubby ate this and he said it's good, the rate for cooking the egg is well enough! And the fillings are a lot! He had mash potato as sides, and he said it's good too, crunchy! PORK CHOP, I had this, and must say it's tender enough, yes it's cooked well and the tator tots as my side was so good, my picky toddler ate most of it and she loves it! Customer service is top notch with a special thank you to Stacie for taking such good care of us! Portions are great, food is quality and the prices are a good bang for buck! Came here for breakfast on Sunday. They seated us in an area with more people and asked if we were ready to order a couple times. I ordered the corned beef hash and asked for my eggs over medium, and although the outside looked a little more cooked, the inside was still a little too runny for me. Then I guess it was my mistake, but I was hoping the corned beef hash would be a little more crispy than it ended up being. Maybe I should have ordered it extra crispy. Hash browns were cooked perfectly crispy when requested to be extra crispy. Ambiance was pretty chill for the most part, but louder than I would have liked on a Sunday morning. Yesterday, my wife came home and was excited to tell me about this diner in Yorba Linda. She said is was well worth another visit.... So, we drove from Corona to Mr D's to see what her excitement was all about. Truthfully the front entrance was a red flag/concern; cob webs all over and the "Dine" sign in Black vs Red. So, we enter and received a friendly greeting by a hostess. We were sat quickly, due to the time on a Saturday, 9am, I had hoped to see more customers. Soon after we were seated, our server Melanie asked what would we like to drink... of course I had to ask a lot of questions about this restaurant. She was warm and friendly to all my inquiries and she took our drink and breakfast orders. The Ambiance was appropriate for a Diner; Music was good, decor was from the 50's and the vintage Chevy as a booth was pretty cool. (Sorry Linda C., this is the ambiance of a diner) The food came out quick and I could not believe how good everything looked. We had the Tex Mex omelet and the PayDay omelet; side of English Muffins. Tasty! I noticed that all the omelets are made with 4 eggs. Hearty meal and flavorful. (Mary H. - you should stay home and cook for yourself). Melanie checked up on us just a couple times but never let my coffee cup go dry. That is incredible service. I will be telling my Family and Friends about this place. I truly don't know why they are a 3.5 stars here. (Some people just need a place to complain; sorry Mr D's for their lack of seeing your honest efforts of food quality and service.) Despite of the funky and jazzy diner and extraordinary customer service, the food just didn't cut it. The menu has wide selections but way too much. All the food we ordered were either very bland or salty. The salsa and cottage cheese that came as a side for the omelet didn't have any seasoning while half of the omelet was burnt and very salty. I see that they are using fresh ingredients but the taste bud is pretty much off. Might be a cool place to hang out and have a shake or sundae but there is nothing really special about their food. read more

What a cute place! 50's Diner and Bakery. My friend brought me here for a little birthday lunch. Entry was very cutely decorated with car table, juke box gum ball machine, Marilyn Monroe life size figure for selfies and a legs table. Everything was clean. We were cheerfully greeted and seated. Lunch was flavorful. Fish sandwich was offered with a side and a cup of soup. It was a generous meal. Fish was Cod and meaty. I had a Cobb salad and it was half lettuce and half toppings. Everything was fresh and arrived within 15 minutes. Service was provided by the bartender. She was attentive, quick and friendly. We hung out and talked and felt very comfortable in our booth. I really enjoyed my time here I went here for a toy drive and decided to get something to eat. I had the BLT and it was delicious. I love that they added avocado. The bread wasn't dried, even after toasting. For dessert, my niece got a brownie à la mode and inhaled I only got a couple of bites, but it was delicious. The owner Stefano told me and my friend that all the desserts are baked in house. No wonder why they're so delicious. I wanna come back and try their pies. We sat in the bar yesterday for an extended period beginning around noon. The person who helped us was wonderful. Friendly and kind. I drink a lot of soda, and she refilled it regularly. Excellent service! My Verde breakfast burrito was absolutely perfect. In a previous review, I expressed dismay at the lack of cheese inside even when I requested extra. Not an issue at all anymore! I asked for extra cheese, and the burrito was filled with deliciously cheesy goodness! The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. I enthusiastically recommend Mr. DS! read more

Great and warm atmosphere here. A place where they will get to know your name and remember what you like to drink. I'm treated with great hospitality and taken care of every time I enter. They have a bar and happy hour, plus they have a few nights when they have live music. The food is excellent. My favs are the chix wings, burger with 1000 island dressing, the oatmeal (thick like I like it) and the fried Zucchini. I have never had a bad order and the food it's a big serving and it is moderately priced. Bottomless iced tea (my favorite), multiple flavored Mimosas (peach, orange and others). Been coming here since this place opened and I always gave it high ratings. Unfortunately, this time was quite different. Ordered a chicken caesar salad...wow! what a horrible salad. Chicken was hot and hard as a rock. I spit out every piece until I finally had the sense to tell the server, who was very accommodating. He got replacement chicken for me, which was also hot, but of more normal texture. A salad is supposed to be chilled, at least a bit, anyway. So I'm a regular there and today I had had a Cadillac Margarita. It was horrible. They pre-mixed didn't even look like a Cadillac margarita look like water. The taste was horrible. You need to go back to making the original mix of margaritas. Also the management has changed so many things have changed at the restaurant so empty I have to say this mail is a amazing bartender. I need to give her credit. so many people have left because of the management. My wife I finally decided to give Mr. D's a try. It's had a rough go with its opening being that it was at the lodge right about when all of the Covid closures started. Give the restaurant credit for being innovative and finding new ways to serve connect to the community. I will say that the staff was very accommodating when we call and very friendly to schedule our pick up delivery. They were prompt when we arrive to deliver our food. So I give kudos to the staff and restaurant for the relationship building with its customers. Our food however left us wanting. I had the pastrami sandwich. It says toasted on them menu, but it sure did not have any sense of that with the bread. In toasted or even grilled to add some crunch would have been welcome. The pastrami itself was solid. However the sandwich felt dry or missing a component. Perhaps more mustard or a fried egg or cheese to add some texture. Would not be something I would order again. My wife got the California burger. Which again in itself the meat patty was seasoned well. Trying to eat her burger proved to be a challenged as it is was runny to use the best descriptor. The bread got soggy and the tray was just filled with juices that soaked the fried and mean you really couldn't put your burger back down. Totally opposite of the pastrami. Speaking of fries. I'll say they were well flavored and cooked right, but to be honest given the size of the burger and sandwich it felt like for the to go order it was almost a half order or really skimpy portions. Well try again when we can go sit inside because we like supporting local businesses, we were just underwhelmed. read more

I hate to say it but I don't think I'll be coming back here unless it is THOROUGHLY cleaned and redone. There were over 100 gnats in the area they sat us in...& 10 minutes into being there we spotted cockroaches on the wall right near the kitchen door. We got up & left and even one of the staff members said "I really can't blame them". They were very apologetic, so I do appreciate that....but that won't make me want to eat there. My advice to the owner would be to get this place cleaned up before you get shut down read more

Got seated fairly quickly on a Sunday morning @ 8am. Our waitress took our drink order IMMEDIATELY. Then she disappeared for 30 minutes until we got to order our food. I don't think it's the waitress fault, they were very understaffed. One waitress for about HALF the tables outside. The restaurant should expect a rush during the weekends. This lead to very poor customer service since she was SO BUSY. Again, not her fault, I think it's the restaurants responsibility to hire more staff. FOOD: Absolutely terrible! The most BLAND and TASTELESS food I've had anywhere in Placentia. I'm assuming they have an older demo since they use virtually ZERO SALT or seasonings in any of their food. PRICING: Around $15 per plate. Same price as Original Pancake House, but Original Pancake House is significantly better and worth it. OVERALL: Will not return. I tried this place because I always drive by and it was new and looked busy. However, very disappointing. I miss Marie Calendars! read more

A bit on the pricey side, but the food is quite good here. I often get the Vancouver Traditional (Fancy name for Eggs Benedict) With few exceptions, the service here has been stellar. Coffee refills occur often, and staff is attentive. Only negative I would give is they aren't always too fast with bringing the check. You have to be proactive about it; don't wait for your server to ask. As for the atmosphere, this is a really cool 50's style diner. The mostly brick interior, a holdover from when this was Mary Callendar's, is also a welcome sight, though not specifically a callback to the 50's vibe. The biggest negative for me is the live music on certain nights. The acoustics in the bar are simply awful, and the cover bands overcompensate by having their microphones and instruments set obnoxiously loud. It makes them sound like screaming cats. Unfortunately, the caterwauling is distorted and reverberates throughout the restaurant. And instead of 50's music, they play the super hits of the 70's. I mean, I like the Pina Colada song, but not like this... Not like this! That nitpick aside, this is still a really great place to go! read more
