Was staying at XV beacon and this branch of Mooo... is attached to the hotel. Very quick service and a hearty breakfast! Can't speak on lunch/dinner, but this did the job and left me satisfied. The steaks were expertly prepared, the sides were very good, and the service was professional, attentive, and polished from start to finish. The wine list was also thoughtfully curated, with plenty of excellent choices. Unfortunately, the ambiance did not match the quality of the food or the prices. We measured the noise level throughout dinner at approximately 76-81 dB, making conversation difficult without raising our voices. For a restaurant where steaks range from around $76 to over $200 for Wagyu, I expected a more refined, relaxed atmosphere. I was also surprised by how casually many guests were dressed. I have no objection to casual attire in general, but at this price point I was expecting more of a special-occasion dining experience. Instead, many diners were wearing Bermuda shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers, which made the atmosphere feel more like a busy upscale neighborhood restaurant than a luxury steakhouse. I had the best birthday dinner, great service, smiles from everyone, lovely evening and really good food! The restaurant is nicely lit, elegant and located at the XV Beacon Hotel. The lobster bisque was good, as well as the complimentary bread. The stars of the evening for me were the ribeye and summer corn. The ribeye was cooked to my liking and the summer corn with mushrooms was a great addition to my meal. I've never had corn prepared with mushrooms, but I love corn and mushrooms, so this was perfect for me. The game hen was also a favorite at the table. The night ended with chocolate covered marshmallows as a birthday surprise and it was a great end to my evening. I will return if I'm in Boston in the future. Definitely worth a visit. read more

This is really between a 4-4-5. We had a great experience at Moo! It is one of the few steakhouses in Boston that we will visit again. The vibe was cool. Some patrons were dressed a bit more casual than I expected, but overall, it still presented as a nice restaurant. The 2 seater tables were a little tight but bearable. I cant have gluten, so I was over the moon that there were so many gluten free options, including the rolls, which were really great and soft. The drinks also pretty good. Strong and tasty. The food was great. I highly recommend the chicken! It might be the best thing on the menu. I expected the server to recommend the much more expensive lamb chops, but the chicken far exceeds the lamb. The sauce was great and the Chicken was tender with great seasoning. The steak was cooked really well. The carrots were good but a bit overpriced for only 2 large carrots. Made a rez on Open Table and called to request a bar seat cause we wanted to watch the Celtics playoffs. We had dinner at this restaurant through in room dining in our hotel room. The food was so freaking delicious, we wished that we had dined in the dining room, for maximum freshness. That doesn't mean that our food wasn't fresh, because it absolutely was, but I would have loved to get that calamari piping hot and super crisp. The highlights were absolutely the bread service and the carpaccio. We ordered steak frites and the steak was cooked perfectly, even though it was a thinner cut. The butter that came with the steak, served in a ceramic that made it look like bone marrow, was out of control delicious and I used it with my rolls and my steak and my fries. From the perfectly crafted drinks at the bar, to a truly indulgent, spectacular dinner, culminating with dessert, perfection, and a beautiful dessert wine. Everything was absolutely perfect. We ordered the tuna tartare as a starter to share and they divided it up for us in advance so it's easier to eat which we appreciated. For the mains, we ordered the wagyu cap which had the perfect balance or meat and fat, and the bone in ribeye which was on the fattier side. Both cuts of meat were cooked perfectly to a medium rare and they had so much flavor. As a side, we had to eat somewhat healthy so we ordered the garlic spinach which provided a break from the meats. For food, my friend and I split a ribeye, the Moo flight, wagyu dumplings, and the mac and cheese. The food was good but I think I went in with too high hopes. They did also give us complimentary chocolate truffles since we were celebrating a birthday; the plate had a personalized HBD message that was a very sweet touch! Completely understandable. The hostess said she would hold them for us at the desk. We finish breakfast and she says she threw them out. Greeeaaattttt. The food was just okay. The pancakes were your diner pancakes and nothing special. Actually a little burnt on the bottom as well but $20 for them. The part that really gets my goat of the whole experience is the restaurant had about as many staff there as customers and it was still painfully slow to order and get your order. Went through a number of recommendations for a good steakhouse in Boston, came across this place which was highly referred for good steaks and great service. Grabbed a seat and was greeted by a very unwelcoming bartender setting the standard for what would be very mediocre service for the night. Interesting cocktail menu which I appreciated the brand of alcohol being listed, though they are a touch more expensive than I feel is worth it. A $24 cocktail is a bit overvalued compared to the other nice cocktails you'll find in the city. I went with the old n cranky which was basically an old fashioned riff, very well done, would recommend this. Ordered the prime ribeye, asked for a half order on sides, but that's not something they would do, bit disappointing as many steak houses will do that, so I had to settle for one side and with the charred carrots. The bartender asked if I wanted bread, and I inquired if that was something included which she seemed repulsed I would ask such a question and gave me an unclear answer, I went ahead and asked for the bread anyway. The bread was phenomenal, definitely glad I got that and it was in fact included. I believe the bread was parker house rolls, really delicious, buttery, soft, great texture. Fitting given this is a block away from where they were invented. The ribeye was cooked well, though on the leaner side. Not much fat marbling here. For this price, was expecting a higher quality cut of beef. It doesn't quite compare to other steaks at other steak houses I've had for the same price. It came with a compound butter that was really great and helped recover some of the lost flavor here. The side of carrots was the most underwhelming part of this meal. These supposed heirloom carrots looked like any ordinary orange carrot you'd find at the grocery store. This $15 side came with 2 whole carrots. The "char" was a little bit of black on one side of these carrots. They did not taste charred at all, I was expecting them to be charbroiled, but there was no flavor of char here at all, they didn't even taste roasted or browned in any capacity. There was a simple honey glaze on it and the texture was terrible. It was so soft and mushy, way overcooked. This tasted like something you'd serve at a school cafeteria or nursing home, not something in a nice steakhouse. The bartender never checked back on me after taking my order. I never spoke to her again until I asked for the check. Couldn't order another drink. Never checked if the food was good or the steak was cooked properly. For a place that people rave on the service, it seems the bar is not included in that, and that was quite disappointing. The seating was elegant and the staff very attentive. We started our meal with sirloin carpaccio and Wagyu beef dumplings. The carpaccio was sliced delicately thin and well flavored with mushrooms. Our favorite was the Wagyu beef dumplings with a nice tender wrapping and a light, flavorful broth. I ordered the Tenderloin of Beef Wellington and hubs had the Prime New York. Both came out cooked to perfection. My Wellington melted in my mouth! Hubs' New York was well-seared and seasoned. We added a side of exotic mushrooms and the Tater-tot potatoes. Everything was a generous portion and complimented each other well. Nothing was overly salty or over seasoned. We finished our luxurious meal with crème brûlée. There was plenty of leftovers and we took that up our room. TL;DR: You're coming to 'Mooo....' you're spending money! Yet - you get not only a phenomenal steak dinner, but overall experience. The food, drinks, atmosphere , and staff were all S-Tier. A super-special occasion (new job & move to Chicago) called for a special meal. For three people, I dropped $800, after tax and tip, and I don't regret it one bit. Prices... I usually wail against a bowl of broccolini costing $15 for $3 of ingredients. However, I get that if people are willing to spend $100 on a steak, might as well. Still, I can confidently say "you get what you pay for," and this is after I dropped more money for a meal than ever before. Tuna Tartare - The fish was of the highest imaginable quality. The miso sauce wasn't overdone, and fully allowed the fish to shine on its own. The cucumber and crisp wonton added a lovely element of crunch and freshness, and the cilantro added flavor too. Seabass Ceviche - The fish is also top-notch, and the sauce and accompaniments are next level. It had some tang from the Citrus Vinaigrette. I loved that it wasn't straight acid, but had flavor! This is in part due to the chilis adding heat, the apple adding a little sweetness, and fennel for freshness. Now, the MEAT of the review: First things first: the plates were hot! Too many places skip this step - and when hot food hits a cold plate, you are left with cold food. Some breakfast places are guilty of this when it comes to potatoes. A5 Japanese Wagyu - I had reason to celebrate, and I would always be wondering if I never had it. I must be honest, it's not that I didn't like it, but rather I didn't understand it. It was cooked to the perfect requested medium rare, seasoned well, and was superbly marbled. Rather than something that was entirely melted in your mouth, some parts melted, and others needed just a little work. This is not to say it was chewy, but each piece needed a few extra seconds. Maybe this is by design, so it doesn't vanish like an hors d'œuvre? Like I said, something I do not understand. Now, when the server asked how we were enjoying everything, I expressed to her the same sentiment. She asked if I would like to get something else instead. I declined, but the fact that this was possible when I was halfway through a $200 steak was beyond anything I could have ever hoped for. So, no stars lost! I also had the opportunity to nibble on the American Wagyu, and the Filet Mignon. (Thank you, Mom & Dad). The American Wagyu - What I expected from the Japanese. Also seasoned and cooked to perfection, and 110% melt in your mouth. Given, this isn't all that healthy, but unless you occasionally light a cigar with a $100 bill, this isn't an everyday splurge or treat. If you are a fan of leaner cuts, the Filet Mignon was fantastic. You guessed it, also cooked, and seasoned to perfection. Where this one shined was the pure flavor. I've had far too many Filet Mignons that didn't really taste like anything. With this one, one could taste the meat! Also, while being a much learner cut than the American Wagyu, this too was insanely tender and could be cut with a fork! Let me touch on the others quick (character limits - "gah!") Market Greens (mushrooms) - complimentary from the kitchen - Thoroughly enjoyable. The Shallot Dijon Vinaigrette takes the cake in elevating the mushrooms to next level! Grilled Broccolini - This chili and garlic are a masterclass is subtly. They're 100% there, and aren't a cameo or an extra, but more like a recurring character contained within one episode. Some pieces weren't quite as tender as others (stems), but this may be by design. Fries - Fresh, well-seasoned, no complaints. Simplicity done well. Pigs CAN Fly - A lovely and approachable drink, even if [rye] whiskey isn't your thing. The whiskey notes were there but not overpowering, the sweetness was light, and it was some tart and savory notes as well. A splendid, balanced cocktail for whiskey and non-whiskey lovers alike. Bananas Foster- Thoroughly enjoyable even though I. not a fan of bananas. Sauce was a delight with some booziness if I recall correctly. A great combination of textures, flavors, and even temperatures. Crème Brûlée - Some of the best I've had anywhere! There are two simple changes that make this one so spectacular! One, it is wider instead of taller (more of that amazing 'burnt' cream!). Two, the sweetness of the custard is gentle, and didn't feel like eating straight sugar. The service: some of the best I've ever experienced. They did everything in their power so we'd have a fantastic experience. Even including the host helping my mother find the elevator to the restroom and waiting outside to take her back. The vibe is appropriate for a restaurant of this caliber. We were greeted by staff upon entering and brought to our table after we told them about our reservation. The server was extremely informative and helpful about everything on the menu. Apparently the chef curates the menu everyday so it's slightly different. The selection of sauces for the different cuts were divine. Each elevating the flavor for each bite but adding to the total cost. The price is about average compared to other steakhouses around the area. Nothing extremely special aside from their sauces that you can add on for a price but still very tasty without it. Simply perfect. Staying at the Omni made dining here a convenient way to cross Mooo off of my Boston Restaurant Bucket List. The ambiance was moody and intimate as we were tucked away in a corner. From the valet, to the hostess, to the waitstaff, the service was refined, knowledgeable, and friendly. Our waiter gave his personal recommendations and shared the most popular menu items/pairings. He did not lead us astray - The food was incredible. The standout item for us was the tater tot side - think tiny and crispy potato arancini with a truffle aioli. Great place to drop in if your in the area. I was on a job interview was hungry. $1 oysters!!! They were fresh and delicious. Bar staff friendly without being intrusive. If you're coming here for a steak, you're in the right place. I've ordered steak here twice and both times the steak itself was genuinely excellent, well-seasoned, cooked to temperature, the kind of result that justifies the price tag. No complaints there. The trouble starts the moment you venture beyond the cut of beef. On both steak visits, the sides disappointed. The Yukon gold potatoes tasted off, hard to put a finger on exactly why, but something wasn't right. The tater tots were fine, though really only worth ordering for the truffle aioli that came with them; the tots themselves were forgettable. Neither side felt like it belonged on a steakhouse menu at this price point. I also came in once hoping a Bolognese would impress and it didn't. The pasta was cooked so al dente it crossed the line into underdone, and the sauce had the consistency of a broth rather than the rich, clinging ragu you'd hope for. It felt like a dish from a completely different kitchen. The steaks here are legitimately good, and if that's all you're after, you'll leave happy. But a great meal is more than its centerpiece, and everything surrounding the steak feels like an afterthought. Come for the beef, manage your expectations for everything else. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Mooo in Beacon Hill. I had an original reservation for 2 for my bf's birthday, until his good friend decided to drive up from NY as a surprise the night before. The hospitality that I received was top notch, they were able to accommodate my last-minute request to change the party size! The food was amazing, we had the steak tartare which was by far my favorite tartare I've ever had. I had the wellington, absolutely fantastic, bf and friend both had steaks which were excellent, perfectly cooked & delicious! They even included some delicious dessert at the end, whenever I am back in Boston, I will come back in a heartbeat! read more
