I came here from Houston and celebrated my birthday here and it was the most wonderful experience of my life. Jay and Justin set the tone and made everything perfect. From the exquisite Appetizer to the most flavorful entrée recommendation (we had the calamari as an appetizer and Wagyu fillet for the entrée) all the way to the specialty soufflé for dessert...everything was cooked and plated beautifully. They even made me a menu with a special birthday message on it that was on display while we ate. If there were more than five stars, I would give Jay and Justin exactly that. Good but should've been great. The overall experience was great initially. Being greeted with a glass of bubbly, taking a special elevator, all of the greeting staff were lovely. Once we got to our table was when things went a bit downhill. Our waitress was great, but often left water glasses unfilled and I sat with an empty wineglass and empty cocktail glass taking up front in front of me all dinner. The meatballs and calamari were good. The lasagna was INCREDIBLY SALTY to the point where everyone at the table couldn't have more than a few bites which was incredibly disappointing for $60. The veal parm was delicious though. Dessert was supposed to be a chocolate, peanut butter, banana cake but the peanut butter overpowered any opportunity for additional flavor profiles. First trip to Dallas for my husband and me, accompanying our daughter on a visit for a relocation/job interview. We were out and about all day north of the city, so it was the only night we hadn't made a dinner reservation (Friday night). Our daughter was researching OpenTable as we were driving back to the city and found a reservation at Monarch for arrival in 30 minutes. We were a little worried about the dress code, as we were a little more on the casual side, but we were nicely dressed, and my husband had on a collared shirt, so we fit in fine. If I knew ahead of time we were going here for dinner, I would definitely step it up a notch. We located the valet and entered The Thompson Hotel lobby and checked in at the restaurant hostess desk with a very pleasant young lady, each given a glass of complimentary champagne and then whisked up in the elevator to the 49th floor. We were greeted by the next hostess and waited only about five minutes in the bar area to be seated at a lovely table in the "quieter" side of the restaurant (the other side of the restaurant is where the wood fire oven is located). I was concerned given our last-minute reservation that we might have been given a less desirable table, but that was not the case! The restaurant is really lovely, white tablecloths, light and bright decor with lots of windows. We were warmly greeted by our fantastic server, Bam, and began perusing the menu along with the voluminous wine list! Bam was very attentive, knowledgeable and kind from the get-go and did a great job helping us with our cocktail selection, with fantastic cocktails arriving shortly thereafter. Bread service is provided, which includes a delicious whipped, herbed ricotta, along with some olives and charcuterie. The bread was fantastic! We ordered the frito misto, a delicious combination of calamari, prawns and halibut (and the prawn heads), along with the oven-roasted tiger prawns, which my husband loved (a little on the spicy side for me). Next we shared the Caesar salad, large enough to share, and it was definitely not your pedestrian Caesar salad, this one is elevated by a delicious herbed dressing and melt-in-your mouth croutons. Every item on the menu sounded wonderful, so we ordered three entrées and shared family style, the shrimp scampi ravioli, the king salmon, and after Bam gave us her description of the lasagna, we knew that was a must have! And she was right, the lasagna with beef short rib bolognese, fire roasted in a cast iron skillet was definitely the winner, a very unique preparation and presentation, so flavorful, especially the crispy edges! The sommelier was wonderful, helping us choose a medium-bodied Italian wine to complement the lasagna and the seafood dishes. There were two wines we were considering, both higher price points than the one she recommended, and the one she recommended was definitely a great choice. Service by all at the Monarch is a well oiled machine! We had four nights of dining out in Dallas, and Monarch was definitely the highlight of our culinary adventures! The decor is modern, light and bright, and although branded Italian, there are so many wonderful selections on the menu - Italian pastas, steaks, seafood, chicken and veal, something for everyone. We would definitely try a steak next time! We had a fantastic time for our 7 year wedding anniversary! Upon arriving we gave our car to valet and made our way to the lobby where we received a glass of champagne before taking the elevator almost 50 stories up for dinner. All the staff worked well together to show us the best night and we're very grateful and hope our gratuity showed that! Now for the tips: it's nearly impossible to get a reservation during the weekend without calling in advance, because the place is packed! People flock to the bar and dining area for the experience, and rightfully so! It's amazing! If you're celebrating and want a great view, SPEAK UP! Sure they may not be able to accommodate you, but don't leave anything up to chance! Tell them why you're dining and what you want, and I'm almost positive they will work to make something happen for you. So I made reservations online since tables fill up pretty quickly on the weekends. We arrived on time and still had to wait about 30-40 mins for our table. We ended up grabbing drinks at the bar which was also ridiculously packed. The drinks we ordered was The Sovereign & The Duchess both pretty good. We finally got seated to our table. We decided to order "Crudo" "sashimi" for our appetizer which was pretty good. Then ordered our main dishes, Fire Roasted Lasagna Diane "Recommended by the server" and Comte Crusted Filet Mignon. For our sides Charred Asparagus and Wood Oven-Roasted Oyster Mushrooms. Everything looked amazing when it came out but the food was kind of salty and the Filet Mignon was dry and not really seasoned. So we've had this reservation for quite some time and I would advise you to get a resy well in advance if you have a specific date in mind. Please keep in mind that this is an upscale venue and you need to dress accordingly. Guys - they prefer you to wear a collared shirt when being seated at your table. They may offer you a coat if you don't. This was a great experience starting from the complimentary champagne we received at the concierge. I loved the ambiance and there are plenty of photo opportunities. The view from the restaurant was amazing. We ordered the fritto misto as an appetizer. This was good but I thought the sauce could use a little more flavor. We then shared the whole lobster spaghetti and the whole fish. Both of these entrees were tasty and really hit the spot. My personal favorite would be the lobster, but I wish the portion size of spaghetti was larger. Soo delicious! We finished up with two expresso martinis for dessert. Overall I loved the location. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Facility, Return) Atmosphere - You will find Monarch on the 49th floor of the Thompson Hotel in downtown Dallas, but the experience begins right when you enter the clean and modern hotel lobby. You'll be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine to accompany you on the elevator ride up. All this happens before you get to the restaurant, which has a spectacular view of Dallas. This is also a people watching destination so dress to impress. The long dining room has velvet covered seats and exquisite dinnerware. If you're lucky you'll get a seat by the window. 1 Star Service - The service was very good. We had a party of 6 so our server recommended many dishes that could be served family style and shared. Between each course our dinnerware was replaced with new ones and our place setting was cleaned. There was so much attention to detail that we knew we would be taken care of. I had to ask for a water refill but given so much attention was given between courses I'm ok with it. 1 Star Food - Pro Tip: Go in a group and eat family style. We had 3 couples and were able to sample many dishes. The highlights: We began with the Crudo, a selection of sashimi grade salmon, hamachi, and tuna under shallots and a vinaigrette. But the star of the night was the Lobster Pasta. Not only was it beautifully presented, but it was also possibly the best pasta dish I have ever eaten. Initially, I thought the steak was a bit chewy, but the flavor and everything really set in nicely and I loved it. The lobster spaghetti was such a treat! Buttery and flavorful. The spaghetti had an amazing aromatic spice in it - I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was phenomenal. For sides we chose green beans, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. For me, the mashed potatoes were average. The asparagus had a nice oven-roast to it and was seasoned well. The green beans were also seasoned well and had a nice lemony Tang to them which I hadn't experienced before. The star of the show was the lasagna!!! Omg I have never had such FRESSSHHHH lasagna. It was delightful. It was obvious that our waiter was new, and very nervous, but overall it was a nice evening. The thing is, I was so hyped up about this restaurant, full of expectations, when were seated in the middle of the back dining area, it was to my dismay, the view was just blah. Not the people I was with. Monarch should consider hanging up some paintings or artwork on the walls back there because they were just plain and bare. The only view in the dining room is through the windows, beyond other tables and those diners with window seats. Awkward. Food was good. I expected nothing less. Funny thing is that the mashed potatoes came out looking runny, yet it tasted way better than it looked. See what happens when your expectations are lowered. To begin, going into the building was a splendid atmosphere and being greeted with much respect on the way up was so nice. As we were 20 minutes early to our reservation we were offered to wait inside or at the bar area. Sitting around and hearing the chatter with a great view outside made it fun as we waited to be seated. Once we were seated we were given out waiter who was very professional and thoughtful with his service. We did not reserve a window seat but as I looked across the room I was able to view the beautiful night sky and city lights outside. I know for sure I'm going reserve a guaranteed window seat for my next visit, it's 100% worth it! Our food was delivered in a promptly matter. In total we had the bread appetizers, wood fired meatballs, spicy rigatoni, and the fire roasted lamb entree. The bread was a great start to the meal and had such a nice flow or to start our appetite while we waited. The meatballs came very quickly and they were absolutely delicious! Come to Monarch for the ambiance and experience of dining high up on the 49th floor and views. We got to the restaurant at 8:30, had reservations at 8:45 but had to wait about until 9:00pm get seated. No worries, they let just hang in the lounge and also give every guest a complimentary glass of champagne for the elevator ride up! However, compared to Monarch's rather popular sister restaurant in Chicago (Maple & Ash), this place did not nearly stay up to par in the dining or experience. The steak was good for Dallas/Texas standards. It's hard not to compare to their sister restaurant though and compared to that it was okay. We also had the Spicy Rigatoni that our server was kind enough to make vegetarian for us. The chocolate cake dessert was too sweet and a little dry for me. I did really enjoy the romantic ambiance of the restaurant and had an enjoyable evening. We were able to go up to the 360 observation deck after dinner to enjoy a drink with a view. Visited Monach for a Birthday gathering. Complimentary valet is offered upon arrival Enjoyed the champaign greeting in the lobby. The place is very crowded and semi loud. Also depending on where you are seated, the experience may not be as enjoyable. Although we had a reservation, we still had about a 30 min wait time to be seated. The hostess notified us that the people currently seated was finishing up. We grabbed a couple of drinks at the bar which were good but the bar tenders were just ok. We started off with a Cesar salad which was very good and fresh. The server brings out focaccia with honey truffle oil spread! Delicious. One of my friends ordered the fish dish. The serve brought the entire dish out uncovered and asked if she liked the way it looked and ran back into the kitchen. It was the strangest thing. WOW. I mean WOW. The food and service really does get 5 stars however the overall experience has some room for improvement. I'll start with the good. It's important to note this restaurant is in The National hotel on the 49th floor. When you walk into the hotel you get a complimentary glass of sparkling wine! Then you go up to the 49th floor and check in. I ordered the Duchess cocktail which was perfect, not too sweet. For appetizers we ordered the oysters and grilled octopus. Both were excellent but I am still dreaming about that octopus. For dinner we ordered the Spicy Rigatoni alla Voda, Comte Crusted Filet Mignon, Mushrooms and Braised Greens. Literally everything was phenomenal. I can rarely finish an entire entree but I finished my pasta dish. The steak was cooked PERFECTLY medium rare (as we had requested) and tasted wonderful. For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Cake with the Peanut Butter and Banana and that was also wonderful. Our server was absolutely perfect. I never felt like I had to flag her down and she also didn't come around too often. Now two things that need improvement: (1) the valet service is so inefficient. An entire lane of traffic is blocked for valet and it moves extremely slow. (2) If you cancel within 24 hours you will be charged $25 per person. I think it's interesting they feel they can charge you for canceling last minute meanwhile even though you have a reservation and you show up on time you end up waiting about 20 mins! It's a celebration! My 25th working anniversary. I had a small budget to use so I brought some friends along wit celebrate. Monarch was my first choice. The experience was wonderful. It's downtown on Elm Street and on the 49th floor where you can see the skyline depending on where you're sitting. I suggest that you RSVP early and make sure they know you're having a special occasion to snag a window seat. (That's not guaranteed! I don't want ya'll saying this Yelp Elite told me the secret knock.) The other reason is they're really busy. Even on a random Wednesday that place was hoping! We had a couple of complimentary glasses of sparkling wine before going up to the restaurant. We had a couple of cocktails , a celebratory tequila shot (it was national Tequila Day) and then we went to order. I wanted the Tuna Tartare (spectacular!!) It was so sweet, fresh and melts on your tongue. That's why those booth chairs are so soft. You takes bites of food and want to melt right into the cushions. We had the filet minion, Veal Parmesan (huge, tender and breaded just right), Lamb shank. We chatted and caught up on our busy lives. The whole experience is TOP notch. You arrive in the lobby and get champagne to drink while you go in the elevator. When you get to the restaurant, it's everything you hoped. Great atmosphere. The staff is so catering and knowledgeable. My group ordered almost everything on the menu, and we didn't find a single thing we didn't like. Full of flavor. I would definitely recommend ordering family style so you can try different things. I will say it's probably the nicest dinner I've ever been to, so be ready to drop some cash. read more

My husband made reservations for our 10 year anniversary, we arrived 15 minutes early, were asked to hang out at the bar while table was ready. We had a few drinks, asked a couple time for updates... and were seated 40 MINUTES after reservation time. Waited to be greeted for a good 5 minutes by a server. Food was delicious, views are amazing, overall ambiance was great. I don't think I'll be back anytime soon due to the poor experience on service. read more

I went here with my friends as a night of celebrations (birthdays, graduations, a friend's wedding is coming up, etc.)! We were greeted with champagne before heading up to the 49th floor. The view from our table was beautiful. We tried the appetizers (Wood-Fired Meatballs, and Market Vegetable Crudités & Whipped Hummus) and they were delicious! For my meal, I had the Momma's Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka and the Black Truffle Risotto! The Risotto was very flavorful, and the Rigatoni was to die for! For dessert, we all shared Tiramisu and Chocolate Cake. The desserts were so good, we couldn't stop eating them! For drinks, I had a mocktail (I believe it was passionfruit flavored). So elegant and romantic! Perfect spot for special occasions or date night. Came here during their opening month and it was such an experience! When we arrived, we were were greeted with champagne to accompany our elevator ride up to the 49th floor. We were promptly sat our table which was decorated impeccably. The food was like tasting heaven. While waiting for our food to come out, we were served bread, salami, olives and some delicious, creamy, whipped cheese I can't remember what it was called. For our appetizer, we went with the Wood-Fired Meatballs which were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. For our pasta, we tried the Shortrib Bolognese which was accompanied by the most delicious sauce. For our main course, we ordered the Comte Crusted Filet Mignon with Garlic Whipped Potatoes and Creamy Polenta Mascarpone as our sides. I was mind blown by how perfect the filet mignon was cooked and the potatoes and polenta were mouthwatering. For drinks, I decided to try the Spicy Lady Cocktail which I was sadly disappointed by the fact that it was difficult to drink due to the amount of cayenne pepper in it. The restaurant itself was beautiful and elegant. However, it did lose a star for me due to the lack of attentiveness from our waitress that seemed to disappear whenever we needed anything. We would have to sit and wait for quite a while for our next course of food to arrive, which I found to be rather disappointing service coming from a restaurant owned by Michelin star chef. Took myself out to a solo dinner on a Monday night. The bartender recommended the bolognese and it was amazing. Started with bread service which included olives and cured meats. Wine and espresso martini were delicious. The restaurant was very busy due to a conference in the hotel. Bartenders didn't stop making drinks the entire time I was there but still made time to ensure everyone at the bar was taken care of. The prices are definitely worth it, can't wait to come back next time I'm in Dallas. read more

Roll in to Downtown Dallas to The National Building, hop the curb for complimentary valet and climb the steps to enter... "Do you have reservations for Monarch?" Heck yeah you do! Grab a glass of champagne from the lovely hostess and head to the 49th floor (pent-restaurant). Cute flower and leave walls greet you. More hostess are happily ready to get you seated. Gold bars fencing the entry lead you to their marble bar and open room dining that mesmerizes you. Pure elegance and each team member is there to serve you. Each room has a different decor/setup and very fancy too. What's pretty much the same is that view :O seeing things from the top floor is a total vibe! They also have a cute little private bar and wine room housing some damn good bottles! :p The food is simply exemplary! Chef Danny really had some flavor jam packed into every single plate we tasted. Course 1: Crudo Texas Wagyu Carpaccio The crudo was good and I loved the capers on top. The Italian spin of sashimi and the quality! Slices were a little thick on some of the pieces for me but still delish. The carpaccio *drools* soooo tender and with that freakin toast!!!!!) Course 2: Wood Oven Roasted Giant Prawns Wood-Fired Meatballs Both SLAP!!!!! like literally I can't say anything else but order these and give me more. I mean just look at the pictures when you get finished reading the rest of these courses lol. Course 3: Fire-Roasted Lasagna Diane 28 Day Dry-Aged Ribeye Garlic Whipped Potatoes Wood Oven Roasted Mushrooms The lasagna is perfect size for sharing and was pretty tasty especially for wood-fired as apart of the cooking method. Ours was quite salty but I'd do it again, I just think it might have been that batch. The ribeye was moist, tender and big. Love the serving size! Mushrooms and potatoes delish. Course 4: Blackout Cake Don't like chocolate cake but this little baby here is the one you'll need to unfasten your belt for! :p We had wine paired with each course! I made reservations and it took a while to get in. I went after a gala and knew I would be dressed up. The valet is not the best. The staff is nice when you come inside and they greet you and tell you which elevator to get in. Inside, they may need a better waiting area but it is nice and the ambience is beautiful with the view. The food was good rather the food was great! I had spaghetti lobster. And my date had some type of fish. We got to sit in a nice spot in the back, but something tells me every seat in this place is a good seat. I would recommend this place for an occasion, and I would also recommend going upstairs to the tiny bar they have inside which is awesome. read more

We were there for happy hour. Service was good. The view was smoggy, so even though we were seated in a prime window location, I kind of just wanted to leave. Oysters were fine. Risotto was overly-salted. Scallops were over-cooked. Both were lacking in complexity or dimension of flavor. Croutons on Caesar salad were tasty. Cocktails were okay enough, but I didn't find that the experience justified the price. Avoid the table at the end of the bar, as you'll have staff buzzing all around your head, because it's kind of a congregation area. A little disappointed in my monarch experience. We made reservations a month ago to sit along the wall and were not given these, the wine we ordered they were out of and then they didn't give us enough appetizers (bread and salami) for each person at the table. I had the spicy rigatoni pasta and it was very good. My friends had the lobster pasta, chicken and seafood and all of the food everyone enjoyed. We did get some sides to share and asked for them to go and they did not give them to us. Overall, monarch is awesome if you have the right spot but if you are seated in the center aisle you are stuffed in there and will be getting bumped the entire night by servers and staff and hostess snd people walking. I cannot tell you how many times we were bumped into sitting by the server screen with 0 apology. read more

This place is fancy. My husband took me here to celebrate my birthday. We had The Royale experience which was fantastic and worth it with what how much we got! We had osterra caviar for appetizer; lobster, filet mignon, mashed potato, and asparagus for entree; and tiramisu and chocolate souffle for dessert. Our kids had spaghetti and alfredo pasta. After finding a Michelin star restaurant 3 hours away from our house we decided to make the drive to try it out. This is the most honest review I can offer. First off, after tip we spent $470 for 3 cocktails, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 sides. Let's start with the positives. The ambiance was quaint. Very old school and stuck in the 80/90 s but fun. The service was good not great but good. I definitely felt out of place but that is ok. On to the food. The fresh bread, whipped butter, meats and olives was nice. Nothing special. Had a "good" Kroger olive bar and charcuterie board for a Super Bowl vibe. The wagyu carpaccio was honestly stunning along with the yellow tuna. I was so excited to get into our entrees after this hit our table. We literally cleaned the plates. The bread that came with the carpaccio tasted like Hawaiian rolls with a nice toast. Again, nothing special. Now to the sad parts. Before I start this let me add in the fact my father owned a restaurant for many years and has been trained by no one. I learned from him and this is where my love for food comes from. I study it, practice it and understand it. I love it. My wife ordered the halibut and risotto. I ordered the ribeye and potatoes. The sides, the potatoes tasted like, potatoes. That's it. They had so much butter in them it was starting to separate. The risotto tasted like horribly over cooked rice with a mix of white and brown gravy. I could taste nothing else. They literally tasted like rice my grandma made while forgetting them on the stove over night and put the gravy that should have been on the potatoes on them so she could eat them without her teeth. The halibut. My goodness the halibut. The fish was good, the sauce on top tasted like regurgitated green beans. Vomit. It was bad. For 40 something dollars I did not expect that. The worst part. My $95.00 ribeye could not be cut by a steak knife. I blamed it on the knife at first because it was so dull it couldn't even cut my finger. Our waiter noticed me trying to cut anything with this knife, ran over and gave us new knives that would cut my finger, but.... But the knife still could not cut the steak. I wish this would have been good. I really do. I hate the fact it wasn't. I hate that I had to duck my head and pay the money to eat this. Please do not go here or waste your money read more
