After finding a Michelin star restaurant 3 hours away from our house we decided to make the drive to try it out. This is the most honest review I can offer. First off, after tip we spent $470 for 3 cocktails, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 sides. Let's start with the positives. The ambiance was quaint. Very old school and stuck in the 80/90 s but fun. The service was good not great but good. I definitely felt out of place but that is ok. On to the food. The fresh bread, whipped butter, meats and olives was nice. Nothing special. Had a "good" Kroger olive bar and charcuterie board for a Super Bowl vibe. The wagyu carpaccio was honestly stunning along with the yellow tuna. I was so excited to get into our entrees after this hit our table. We literally cleaned the plates. The bread that came with the carpaccio tasted like Hawaiian rolls with a nice toast. Again, nothing special. Now to the sad parts. Before I start this let me add in the fact my father owned a restaurant for many years and has been trained by no one. I learned from him and this is where my love for food comes from. I study it, practice it and understand it. I love it. My wife ordered the halibut and risotto. I ordered the ribeye and potatoes. The sides, the potatoes tasted like, potatoes. That's it. They had so much butter in them it was starting to separate. The risotto tasted like horribly over cooked rice with a mix of white and brown gravy. I could taste nothing else. They literally tasted like rice my grandma made while forgetting them on the stove over night and put the gravy that should have been on the potatoes on them so she could eat them without her teeth. The halibut. My goodness the halibut. The fish was good, the sauce on top tasted like regurgitated green beans. Vomit. It was bad. For 40 something dollars I did not expect that. The worst part. My $95.00 ribeye could not be cut by a steak knife. I blamed it on the knife at first because it was so dull it couldn't even cut my finger. Our waiter noticed me trying to cut anything with this knife, ran over and gave us new knives that would cut my finger, but.... But the knife still could not cut the steak. I wish this would have been good. I really do. I hate the fact it wasn't. I hate that I had to duck my head and pay the money to eat this. Please do not go here or waste your money read more

So I made reservations online since tables fill up pretty quickly on the weekends. We arrived on time and still had to wait about 30-40 mins for our table. We ended up grabbing drinks at the bar which was also ridiculously packed. The drinks we ordered was The Sovereign & The Duchess both pretty good. We finally got seated to our table. We decided to order "Crudo" "sashimi" for our appetizer which was pretty good. Then ordered our main dishes, Fire Roasted Lasagna Diane "Recommended by the server" and Comte Crusted Filet Mignon. For our sides Charred Asparagus and Wood Oven-Roasted Oyster Mushrooms. Everything looked amazing when it came out but the food was kind of salty and the Filet Mignon was dry and not really seasoned. So we've had this reservation for quite some time and I would advise you to get a resy well in advance if you have a specific date in mind. Please keep in mind that this is an upscale venue and you need to dress accordingly. Guys - they prefer you to wear a collared shirt when being seated at your table. They may offer you a coat if you don't. This was a great experience starting from the complimentary champagne we received at the concierge. I loved the ambiance and there are plenty of photo opportunities. The view from the restaurant was amazing. We ordered the fritto misto as an appetizer. This was good but I thought the sauce could use a little more flavor. We then shared the whole lobster spaghetti and the whole fish. Both of these entrees were tasty and really hit the spot. It's cool with a splash of acid to give it a light kick. We shared a perfectly grilled medium rare ribeye. It was perfectly seared with a dash of salt that simply enhanced the flavor of the beef. But the star of the night was the Lobster Pasta. Not only was it beautifully presented, but it was also possibly the best pasta dish I have ever eaten. The pasta was enriched with butter allowing the sweet lobster meat to shine. 2 Stars Will I Return? - Yes......but only on special occasions. Came here for a birthday celebration and definitely made the right choice. We started with the meatballs and giant prawns. Both were excellent. Perfectly seasoned, and I especially liked the cheese in the sauce for the meatballs. We had the lasagna and steak as main courses. Initially, I thought the steak was a bit chewy, but the flavor and everything really set in nicely and I loved it. The lobster spaghetti was such a treat! Buttery and flavorful. The spaghetti had an amazing aromatic spice in it - I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was phenomenal. For sides we chose green beans, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. For me, the mashed potatoes were average. The asparagus had a nice oven-roast to it and was seasoned well. The green beans were also seasoned well and had a nice lemony Tang to them which I hadn't experienced before. The star of the show was the lasagna!!! Omg I have never had such FRESSSHHHH lasagna. This is fine, because when you're with good company and if you're at a very busy downtown restaurant, not just any downtown restaurant, but a downtown restaurant with a beautiful view on the 49th floor, the wait is all good. The thing is, I was so hyped up about this restaurant, full of expectations, when were seated in the middle of the back dining area, it was to my dismay, the view was just blah. Not the people I was with. Monarch should consider hanging up some paintings or artwork on the walls back there because they were just plain and bare. The only view in the dining room is through the windows, beyond other tables and those diners with window seats. Awkward. Food was good. I expected nothing less. Funny thing is that the mashed potatoes came out looking runny, yet it tasted way better than it looked. See what happens when your expectations are lowered. To end, we'd return in a heartbeat, but will be sitting at the bar or window seat. The cost of food is not worth it without the view since the service was not the best. On the 49th floor of the Thompson Dallas Hyatt, you get an exquisite view panning the downtown city lights. I attended a birthday function celebrating a dear friend with a large party, perhaps, close to 100 people, and this place did not disappoint. What was on the menu? Glad you asked. Here is what was served in a few courses: Bread was served along with drinks at first. Then the actual courses were served. First course included: Market Vegetable Crudités & Whipped Hummus, Burrata Salad, and Chopped Salad. Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of salad but all of the servings were excellent. I'm personally a sucker for fresh burrata cheese. Second course included: Momma's Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka, Roasted Filet Mignon, and Wild Halibut. Again, the main course here was very good. Sides included: Garlic Whipped Potatoes, Green Beans, and Black Truffle Risotto. All were excellent! I was a big fan of the garlic mash and the truffle risotto, albeit, I'm a huge fan of great risotto, especially with truffle. The dessert included: the Chocolate Cake and Tiramisu. If you appreciate a nice view, great service, and a culinary experience, Monarch is the place for you. I will be making another visit the next time I come out to Dallas. I ordered the ribeye medium rare and the first time I came out medium well, and the second time it came out medium (seems like this place doesn't know how to cook a steak). The sides were very good. The manager was very helpful and checked it constantly which was nice and comped the steak. But the over all experience ruined the trip. I personally never want to go back. Visited Monach for a Birthday gathering. Complimentary valet is offered upon arrival Enjoyed the champaign greeting in the lobby. The place is very crowded and semi loud. Also depending on where you are seated, the experience may not be as enjoyable. Although we had a reservation, we still had about a 30 min wait time to be seated. The hostess notified us that the people currently seated was finishing up. We grabbed a couple of drinks at the bar which were good but the bar tenders were just ok. We started off with a Cesar salad which was very good and fresh. The server brings out focaccia with honey truffle oil spread! Delicious. One of my friends ordered the fish dish. The serve brought the entire dish out uncovered and asked if she liked the way it looked and ran back into the kitchen. It was the strangest thing. I had the Shrimp Ravioli which was good just small portion sized. I did try the garlic mash potatoes which tasted watery and instant. I celebrated my anniversary with my wonderful girlfriend and what a wonderful idea it was to dine at the Monarch. To begin, going into the building was a splendid atmosphere and being greeted with much respect on the way up was so nice. As we were 20 minutes early to our reservation we were offered to wait inside or at the bar area. Sitting around and hearing the chatter with a great view outside made it fun as we waited to be seated. Once we were seated we were given out waiter who was very professional and thoughtful with his service. We did not reserve a window seat but as I looked across the room I was able to view the beautiful night sky and city lights outside. I know for sure I'm going reserve a guaranteed window seat for my next visit, it's 100% worth it! Our food was delivered in a promptly matter. In total we had the bread appetizers, wood fired meatballs, spicy rigatoni, and the fire roasted lamb entree. The bread was a great start to the meal and had such a nice flow or to start our appetite while we waited. The meatballs came very quickly and they were absolutely delicious! A perfect meal to share with my girlfriend as we both greatly enjoyed it 10/10. The spicy rigatoni was absolutely divine. It is slightly more on the spicy side so if your spice tolerance is not too strong I wouldn't recommend. However for our spicy lovers, this was absolutely amazing and creamy. For sure getting again next time. Finally the main lamb entree arrived. I ordered it to be cooked rare and that's exactly what was brought out. The meat and dressing they poured over the lamb was absolutely scrumptious... I wish I had ordered more food but I will definitely be returning here once again. It's important to note this restaurant is in The National hotel on the 49th floor. When you walk into the hotel you get a complimentary glass of sparkling wine! Then you go up to the 49th floor and check in. I ordered the Duchess cocktail which was perfect, not too sweet. For appetizers we ordered the oysters and grilled octopus. Both were excellent but I am still dreaming about that octopus. For dinner we ordered the Spicy Rigatoni alla Voda, Comte Crusted Filet Mignon, Mushrooms and Braised Greens. Literally everything was phenomenal. I can rarely finish an entire entree but I finished my pasta dish. The steak was cooked PERFECTLY medium rare (as we had requested) and tasted wonderful. For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Cake with the Peanut Butter and Banana and that was also wonderful. Our server was absolutely perfect. I never felt like I had to flag her down and she also didn't come around too often. Now two things that need improvement: (1) the valet service is so inefficient. An entire lane of traffic is blocked for valet and it moves extremely slow. (2) If you cancel within 24 hours you will be charged $25 per person. I think it's interesting they feel they can charge you for canceling last minute meanwhile even though you have a reservation and you show up on time you end up waiting about 20 mins! If you feel you have the right to charge $25 pp for a late cancellation then make sure people are seated at their reservation time! read more

They brought the bill immediately even though our table ended up being almost 30 minutes late being ready. Once seated at our table service was superb. Our server Steven, was great! We were sat in the middle of the dining hall with servers rushing every which of way holding trays of food over our heads to do so. Not the most comfortable. It's been a while, so decided to come back with a friend of mine who hadn't visited yet. We had a reservation for 8:15. We sat at the bar and had cocktails while we waited, and we were seated by 8:45. Yes, it took a while, but we were certainly not disappointed when they took us to the lovely window seats! A wonderful meal AND beautiful views? I'm all in! Our waiter, Mike, was very professional and attentive. What we had: - Spanish secrets (Patron tequila, grapefruit, jalapeno, strawberry, cointreau, lime, tajin): my kinda drink! spicy with the tangy fruitiness! - Spanish charred octopus (marcona almond, roasted grapes, blistered kale, aged balsamic): lovely octopus - charred to perfection but still soft on the inside. Loved the combo with grapes! - Texas wagyu carpaccio (arugula, charred lemon, black truffle, horseradish crema, warm brioche): super thin and soft wagyu, goes well on top of the warm brioche pieces. LOVED every bite. - heirloom beet salad (herb goat cheese, baby frisee, spiced pecans, chamomile vinaigrette): I loooove beet salads, so couldn't say no! I wish it had a little more goat cheese, but this was super delicious. - momma's spicy rigatoni alla vodka (guanciale, crispy garlic): My friend told me to get this for sure - honestly it's probably the best rigatoni I've had! It does have that spicy kick for sure, and the crispy garlic on top gives an extra crunch factor that I loved! - black truffle risotto (madeira, chives, robiola cheese): This is an expensive side item at $34, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed. Very heavy on the truffle, for sure, which may justify the price. However, it was way too salty for us. We didn't want it to go to waste so we finished it, but every bite was just a little too salty. - green beans (dill yogurt, lemon, hazelnuts): Can't go wrong here! Nice to have some greens with our pasta. - Chocolate cake: Loved the crispy layer sandwiched between the chocolate layers. Comes with peanut butter sorbet, too! So good!
