The only draw back is that they do not serve spirits, they of carry wine and beer. They do have mixed wine drinks but that is all. The food was good, I had the lamb burger sliders, does not come with fries or sides so you have to asks for additional items. Have a friend who tried the sea bass and found that it was a great dish. Crowded, loud and not many places for a group of 4 . or 5 that can sit down... read more

Looking for a nice coffee shop vibe? This is the place. Mimosas are refreshing. Nice ambience. Chicken and waffles had to be sent back. Only reason it's losing one star. Highly recommend the sliders and fries. Also good prices. read more

Highly recommend trying their steak‼ Steak Night: Tuesday/Thursday costs $16 for steak, mashed potatoes, pickled carrots, and tomatoes. Definitely worth the price u are paying. I went with a medium rare and it was perfect. I will definitely be back. read more

Walked to this place when fpsf was rained out in the afternoon and ended up really enjoying the meal here. I got the veggie curry pot pie! I've never heard of a type of dish like it, so I wanted to try it out and I was very pleased! My brother got their classic chicken sandwich and he loved. We got the baklava to end it off and they put snickerdoodle ice cream on top. I'm honestly still thinking about that dessert. Unlike any baklava I've ever tried. read more

This is a very preliminary review, since I've only ordered one drink here. The raspberry mojito was really good. It tasted pretty much like a ripe raspberry. I really enjoyed it. What I liked: The raspberry mojito. They have live music on Saturdays. They have an 8 to close happy hour on Saturdays, and a 4-6 happy hour on weekdays. Tuesday and Thursday they have a steak dinner special for $14 which is awesome. What I didn't like: You can only park in the street, but that's expected. Bottom line: Come here for happy hours, steak dinners, raspberry mojitos, and live music. I also like Phonecia which is right next door. read more

I would never go out of my way to come here again. In fact, I live a few blocks away and wouldn't even choose to come here if it were on my way. The food was terrible. The live music was way too loud and just my personal preference but eating in a market is in no way appealing. My group ordered pizzas. The flavors were all so weird, but the menu was limited so whatever. We also had chicken and waffles and it plain in simple, just sucked. The food took so long to come out even though the restaurant was empty. So yes, we were all starving and the food STILL was not good. The only reason why I'm giving it two stars is because the service was great. Don't understand the high ratings, but maybe it's just not my vibe. read more

We were here for a corporate social for the National Athletic Trainer Convention. Our server was Heather according to my receipt. She did a marvelous job. We were eyeing a chocolate cake that went by our table. Our server made it appear on our table. In a quick fashion! She was very pleasant and we had great conversation. I'm kicking myself for all the times I drove past Phoenecia thinking it was only an international grocery. We walked over from Discovery Green on a Sunday afternoon and found Mkt Bar's awesome brunch. If you're not up for chicken and waffles (which looked fab I must admit) have a bowl of chili and strap in for something entirely different. Think of a bowl of damn good chili. Then tweak the spices with Middle Eastern flavors and toss in some chickpeas and radishes for good measure and serve it with a side of pita chips and you'll get their take on chili. It hit the spot. So did the pomegranate mimosas and sangria. We're totally coming back for the chicken and waffles, though. And steak night two nights a week is speaking my language. Service was great, and there's big tables if you're coming with lots of friends. read more

Probably "Go To" place to eat in Downtown. Menu is as diverse as the grocery store next door. Recently ordered the pita chips and Queso, and the Kamtastic chicken Sandwich. The warm apple baklava with ice cream has to be one of the most treasured deserts in HTown. Both are wonderfully delicious. Will come back during live music nights. read more

Went to Brunch on Sunday around 12 noon. Loved the ambiance and vibe. Chili had great taste, Apple chai tea was not strong enough. Scramble Egg for me, it was a bit too much of cheesy sauce. Brussels sprouts is not crispy like I would like to be. I would come back and try others as well. But pictures on website was not true pic...I would definitely try other menu. My main complaint would be the chicken and waffles... Now I see other peoples post... the quality of chicken I got was horrible... now I had to change the star to 3 . Sorry. I will revisit and hopefully I can update my rating. read more

The steak night was by no means a good deal! It was mostly all fat and was way too salty. To make mattters worse when the waitress gave us options for sides she forgot to mention that broccoli was $2 extra and we found once the bill came. I will however add that the red quinoa salad was divine, that's on their regular menu. Also there HH red wine could use an upgrade. read more

Love, love MKT Bar! This is one of my favorite spots for happy hour downtown. 6Connected to Phoenicia, the bar offers a really casual, fun space to wind down after works with friends and co-workers. The service at the bar is always friendly, and the servers who come around to the bar-top tables are attentive and usually pretty quick when it comes time to split the check. The daily specials here are great - once a week they have a steak night, and a few nights a week they also have live music and/or a DJ right in the bar to keep things lively. The drink specials during happy hour are on par with what you would expect and are focused on their beer and wine selection (ask them what wines they have on tap - the red blend is usually something spicy and unique), but they do have a daily seasonal sangria most days of the week, so if you feel like something a little different, definitely give it a try (especially if it's red). The food menu in the bar has a lot of variety with several appetizers and shared plates that fall in line with the kind of food they carry in Phoenicia Market next door (and if you know anything about the quality and variety of food they carry at Phoenicia, you know that this is a good thing). I really like their hummus and brussels sprouts, but skip the plantain chips (we have tried them multiple times and never gotten a good batch). Overall MKT Bar is a really great, unexpected spot to hang out and meet friends after work, and although I have known this for awhile, it seems like the rest of downtown is catching on because it keeps getting harder and harder to get a table during happy hour! Went to to this place on a whim and it was decent. A friend and I came here on a Thursday and it was really busy for steak night. We had to sit near the grocery store and it took FOREVER to get served. We ordered everything at the same time and it didn't take long for our drinks to come out. The only thing is after the waiter brought our drinks, he told us our salads would be right out. We waited and waited our salads never came but our entrees did without salad or silverware. Ask and you shall receive.. the runner brought us both silverware and our salads. The only thing is, there was no dressing. I try to be understanding so I do think that this service was due it being busy and will give them the benefit of the doubt. The food was okay. Not the best I've ever had but not bad. read more

Excellent coffee and dessert. Sat at the bar and listened to live music. Ordered a few coffees (berries and cream, vanilla dolce, and our favorite the choco halva lattes) and dark knight for dessert. The staff was so sweet- they overhead it was out anniversary and added a message to our dessert. Will be back! read more

I love MKT bar! It's my usual go to before concerts or a rockets game but this was my first time here for brunch and it did not disappoint. First of all parking is free, so that's amazing. The food was solid, we got the plantain chips, Brussels sprouts,veg out pizza and another pizza which I cannot recall the name of. My FAVE part?! They have wine flights!! I had the fruit one and it was 3 delicious nice sized pours of white wine. I wish more restaurants had that for us wine lovers out there. We were there around 2pm and it wasn't very crowded which was nice. Service was good and food came out quick. I would definitely come back for brunch another weekend. I've also heard that they have board games in the back to play..even not on game nights! read more

Stopped by MKT Bar for dinner this past Saturday evening around 7 pm. It was not very crowded, surprising considering the Astros were playing. We wandered the attached market before dinner; looks like an amazing place to grab lunch or a few specialty grocery items! My boyfriend and I decided to sit at the bar since it was a bit more lively than the seating area. Note that this is not a full bar. I started with the house margarita with grapefruit and my boyfriend got a beer. They were both just OK; I didn't feel the tequila was strong enough in my drink and it was too sweet. Later in the night I also tried the bee sting (agave wine, some bubbly, honey I think?) which had true honey flavor but otherwise wasn't too exciting either. My boyfriend had a 2nd beer later and overall felt like they both tasted funny as if there was something wrong with the taps. We got the picnic pizza to start - a white pizza with brie, dried apricot, walnuts, arugula, garlic puree, and prosciutto for an extra fee. It was delicious! We loved the crust and the pizza itself wasn't too thin. Definitely would've been less interesting without the prosciutto, though. We then split the MKT queso with added chili for an extra fee. We liked that it was a thinner, lighter consistency than some quesos. There was not too much chili added, odd considering it costs extra. It has a bit of a Mediterranean flavor profile that paired well with pita chips instead of your typical tortilla chips. We got extra pita chips when the bartender noticed we were running low, which was nice! The queso was tasty but not a "must get" item; I saw you can buy it in the market if you are so inclined to try it! For our entree, we split the lamb tacos. These were definitely the star of the night! You get 2 "tacos" that are really more like gyros. Juicy ground seasoned lamb with some sort of minty/cucumber/yogurt sauce inside a solid pita/gyro. The flavor was wonderful and we liked the corn/bean/cucumber salsa type side. DJ Tempty set up around 8 and was playing some soulful tunes as we wrapped up our meal, the seating area started to fill up around then as well and it finally felt lively just as we were leaving. This place seems to get more bumpin' after 8pm on Saturdays, so if you're looking for a quiet meal maybe get there on the earlier side like we did! I hear brunch is a pretty unique experience at MKT Bar. I'd come back to try it, but since the dinner and drink options didn't completely impress me I'd wait to come back for that. read more

We went here for Brunch on a Saturday and had some of the worst service I've ever had! There was like one waitress working the whole room and I felt bad for her but they really shouldn't have opened if they were that understaffed. The food was pretty good but the brunch menu is TINY and pretty much all waffles. read more

Took my grandfather here for steak night on his birthday. It was a little hard to find because it's connected to a grocery store. They had live music and the duo was amazing! The steak was good but not as flavorful as I hoped for. The servings were big though! Big salad and steak. They gave my grandfather ice cream for his birthday. It was so cute!!! I've been in the hospitality industry for almost 20 years. Phoenicia rarely disappoints. The staff, and managers are usually very genuine. There has been a time or two that I wait in line too long, and some of the pricing isn't accurate. The shining star of this store is Esme, or Esma...not sure how she spells her name. She is one of the most attentive servers/bartenders that I have ever had the pleasure of being served by. The taller manager as well is awesome. I've trained hundreds of managers and staff, and I have witnessed her training another employee...and she is extremely thorough. I've loved and bought from both locations, but this is now my one and only store. Keep it up. Fan for life. Scott Mitchell read more

CUTE CUTE CUTE eatery. Amazing location near Discovery Green. You can ride your bike as the bike lane is next to this location, or you can park in the garage for FREE. Their menu is consistent along with a nice taste to any item on their menu. Nice bar for a beer or two. Remember to grab some dessert after your dinner. Check out their gelado. SO GOOD. Came here at 11PM on a Friday night after reading glowing reviews. We were a large group of about 10, looking for a place to grab some drinks. Upon entry, there were maybe 20 people in the establishment. An employee came up to me telling me they were closed.... even though it says closed at 2AM on the door and online, doors were open....and there were people inside?! The reasoning was that "it was a slow night" so they wanted to close up. Our group of 10+ would have sped things right along. This seems like a bad business model - close whenever you want? We weren't treated very kindly and were frustrated by this bar. Very upsetting because we were very excited to visit! Won't ever be coming back here. read more

Fantastic and welcoming service. Per the server's suggestion, I ordered the chicken and waffles and was not disappointed. Yummy! I also had an almond milk vanilla latte which was equally delicious. This was exactly what we were looking for for a late night quick meal, but still a good dining experience. The area around the convention center was packed and most waits for 2 ppl were up to an hour and 45 minutes. However we felt like we found a gem when we walked into MKT and sat immediately! It was their soul music night which was super fun, service was great (seat yourself and someone came to take our drink order asap), and the appetizers we had were delicious! They also have a lot of TVs so we had a great view of March Madness! I had the bike ride beer flight which was a good arrangement of different types of beer but I think my favorite was my friends rhubarb cider! Their queso and fries were delicious! They come separately, but highly recommend ordering both and dipping the fries in the queso! I can't comment on their meals because we only went for appetizers and drinks, but everything I saw go by looked delicious for a reasonably price restaurant! read more

Stopped in this place a couple of times, but on Cinco de Mayo I got the full experience of what they offer. Let me start by saying it's a great location. Right across the street from the park, and quite a few choices for parking. Being downtown that can be the deal breaker. Aside from that, the place is VERY spacious! There's lots of variety here from gelato, live music, food and drinks. That's where the three stars came from. Considering we were looking for a nice place to hang for "Cinco de Drinko," after our previous experience somewhere else was not the best (a different story). So I tried looking up a backup plan that wasnt too far, great parking, great ambiance, food choices and drinks. That's how MKT Bar came up. We found a nice little booth and our waitress was phenomenal. I was just saddened when I discovered that they ONLY had beer and for alcohol! Totally misled by the pictures. I guess they got as creative as they could with the alcoholic restrictions, but GOODNESS. Furthermore, we just decided to order some appetizers like their queso with haig chilli. Descriptively it sounded GREAT, but when they brought the chilli out, it lacked mucho flavoring- another disappointment. Honestly, I it tasted like something out of a can. The PITA chips they decided to match with it didn't help. I associate pita chips with humus, not not nachos. Sometimes there's no need to reinvent the wheel. Finally, with food and drinks, what could be missing? Music! For some odd reason, they had someone there playing a cello. I reeeally couldn't put the pieces together on that one. So in a nutshell, if you are looking for something or Some-where that's live, popping with hard liquor- NOT your spot. This is more of a place that you go to after a nice walk in the park and you're opting for something "light." The stars are really for great customer service and a convenient location. read more

Went out and met some girlfriends for a night out ... loved the location (parking is usually free but had to pay since there was a concert and Astros game). Pros: We we able to reserve seating, the atmosphere was nice and quite, the room very spacious and the server was very nice and attentive. The food was great and affordable ! Especially the fries!! Best ever I would recommend it and also planning to come back for steak night on Tuesdays and Thursdays read more

My friend and I had brunch at this hipsteresque "bar," which is actually a beer and wine only spot, not a full bar. I really wanted a Bloody Mary and was, at first, dismayed that their version was made with sake instead of vodka, but I tried it anyway. It was good! Spicy and zippy, but, of course, it didn't have quite the same buzzing effect as vodka. I had the eggs with sausage, my friend had the frittata with sausage, and we shared an order of Brussels sprouts. My eggs were delicious, and the sausage was just ok - pretty average links. The Brussels sprouts fell short, lacking in flavor. They could have used more cooking time and more caramelization or char. They were definitely under-seasoned. Service was excellent! Friendly, helpful (our server went out of her way to make recommendations and adjustments according to my dietary restrictions.) All of the staff was friendly, actually. I just moved into the neighborhood, so I'm sure I'll be back ;) read more

We finished almost everything except a quarter of the Pan, about a quarter of the rice, and about a third of the ribeye. All were great dishes and would definitely order again. We skipped dessert because honestly none stood out to us. He said their popular dessert is the souffle but they were sold out. Our total before gratuity was about $250 and that included one cocktail. Hubs had their "classic" old fashioned which he said was excellent! Overall, highly recommended if you don't mind the splurge or for a special occasion!

Needless to say we both left hungry as the portions were not only not edible, but also fairly small. The water boy also stopped by and offered to turn on the heater if we get cold. It's not a make or break thing, I've never seen it before nor was I made aware of it. It might be on the menu somewhere...idk. Additionally, valet parking is available for a fee. Most restaurants offer a birthday dessert, but this one did not. I would return to enjoy a few menu items like the queso, G & G Salad, and the oysters! These were really good. So for me, it really depends on what one wants to experience.
