I've heard so much about Field & Tides, so when I was looking for a place in the area for dinner, I figured this was the perfect time to finally give it a try. We went around 6 p.m. on a weekday, and they had a steady flow of business. It's a small restaurant with a small parking lot, but they do have an additional lot across the street. We were greeted right away and seated immediately. Our waiter was also tending the bar. He was incredibly friendly and working hard, but because he seemed to be juggling so much on his own, service was on the slower side. For the appetizer, we ordered the Crispy Fried Oysters & Brussels, and I got the redfish for my entrée. The Brussels sprouts were flash-fried perfectly, and I loved the sweetness of the chili honey glaze. The oysters had a nice crispy coating, but I found them to be a little bland. The redfish, though, was absolutely the star of the meal. I cleaned my plate. It was served with Hoppin' John and a lemon butter sauce. I had never heard of Hoppin' John before, but it's essentially a Southern rice-and-bean dish, and paired with that lemon butter, it was so flavorful. It complemented the fish perfectly. read more

I'm actually really surprised with this place. The inside kinda gave me a farmhouse vibes. They had a bar and seating around. It's not a huge restaurant but it could be the size of a cafe. I tried the pulpo for an appetizer. The potato's were soft. The octopus was easy to eat and seasoned well. I felt like paired well together. It did have a little oily flavor to the dressing they used almost like a sesame oil. I tried the red fish and that was a little dry on the inside. The dish itself was flavorful. I also tried the scallops and this one was my favorite. It was creamy and cheesy. The scallops were soft and each bite of the rice had some shrimp or crab in it. Service was a bit slow. read more

Went here for my birthday and had a wonderful experience. The restaurant is quiet and intimate, set inside a cute house that makes it feel very special and personal. We brought a group of 8 and everyone had a great time. The staff was incredibly personable and accommodating...they even kept my cake stored in the cooler for us! The food and drinks came out quickly and everything was delicious. I highly recommend the scallops...they were a standout dish. I've had field and tides bookmarked on my yelp for quite some time. So I was very excited to visit last weekend for brunch! The restaurant feels very cozy. There's two homes converted into a restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating as well. It was a beautiful, sunny day so we decided to sit under the shade outside. For drinks we ordered sangria and pineapple mimosas. The blueberry ginger pancakes seemed like a hit based on reviews so I ordered that as my entree. The portion size was huge so it was very filling. The ginger was not overwhelming at all and really complemented the sweetness of the blueberry toppings. I also ordered a the pork belly deviled eggs which were pretty yummy as well. My fiancé ordered the gumbo which was very savory and filled with the perfect combo of shrimp, chicken and andouille sausage. The service was good as well. Amazing! We came here on a Monday night and wow! We sat in their private dining room which can accommodate 30 guests. Let's start with the service. It was perfect! Everyone was very attentive and we were able to hear from the Executive Chef/Owner! I am mad I found field and tides when I'm on my way out of the city. It is so delicious and the staff is so friendly. The first time I can solo during a slower day and sat at the bar. You can tell the staff really cares about each other. I got the fried chicken piccata and pimento cheese fritters and one of the whiskey cocktails. And I mean to tell you I CLEANED MY PLATE. there was nothing left. Everything was so fresh and seasoned and delicious. A few weeks later I came on a Saturday night with friends and the service was a bit slower and table options were limited. We were still comfortable and just had a to wait a long time. We got our appetizers before our drinks. The crab toast wasn't my fave but I liked the pimento cheese fritters again. Met up with a friend for dinner, and this was on both of our lists to try. The exterior is very inviting. We visited on a Friday night and it was fairly busy with reservations (which we didn't have). Luckily, there are actually two separate buildings on the same plot, and we basically sat in the overflow, which was more than fine. The restaurant is so cute! It's definitely a neighborhood favorite from the customer service, environment and food quality. I appreciate the options for both indoor and outdoor seating. The aesthetics of the restaurant give date, brunch and casual dinner. I was there for Sunday brunch and enjoyed the shrimp and grits. Oh my goodness! It was seasoned to perfection and the grits were so creamy. That's usually my problem with shrimp and grits, the grits aren't usually creamy. Also, there's usually roux that overpowers. In this case...*chef's kiss*. My meal was 9 out of 10. Although I enjoy fried okra, I could have done without it on my dog. My aunt had the chicken and sausage gumbo. She rated it as a 7 out of 10. Our friend had the pork belly hash. Her rating was 7 out of 10. It was very spicy and the spice wouldn't allow her to enjoy the flavors and textures of the dish. John who was our main server made sure we were well taken care of without being too overbearing. A friend and I sat outside and had some cocktails (espresso martinis and ranch waters, both delicious). Both a fan of deviled eggs we shared some of those before dinner. Field & Tides is still amongst the best Houston has to offer. Being new to the city, I discovered it along with my best friend in 2021 shortly after I moved here. On that first visit we had oysters & crispy Brussels, tuna poke, crab dip, and delicious cocktails. I've since been many times solo to enjoy an oyster Caesar, delicious redfish, and a manhattan - always superb. I tried to take my bff in August of 2025 but we arrived to find a gas leak had temporarily closed the restaurant. I was finally able to get my friend back in town for dinner here in Dec 2025 and it was nothing short of AMAZING. Once again we had oysters & crispy Brussels, tuna poke, but got to try the fried pimento cheese balls, duck ragu, scallops with crab & shrimp risotto. Everything was divine. The service is always stellar, from the hostess to the bar to the wait staff. F&T is a small quaint restaurant on E 11th in the Heights. Excellent service from Sam our server and was not a crowded lunch. I was able to have a good conversation with my lunch partner. My oyster Caesar salad on the menu looked good and the chipotle flavored dressing didn't bring any alarms until my first bite. One must tolerate very spicy food to tolerate this salad as I found out. I could not eat this and I substituted with a regular Caesar with ranch dressing. Maybe the menu should say hold on to your hats!! The food now was excellent. They have a parking lot next to the restaurant that is quite large. They have a nice bar with a tv ( sports were on). Could be a good happy hour place if you live close. read more

A solid first experience at Field and Tides - they have two buildings next to each other and both are pretty small and well decorated. Service was really good. Their cocktail list was good and I enjoyed the Angry Gunsel (spicy marg). The Pulpo appetizer came with potatoes and was really nice - definitely large enough to share! I got the Bouillabaisse which is their Wednesday special and it was really filling and great serving size. The Beef Stroganoff looked awesome too. The Tres Leches for dessert was kinda small but was amazing - hint of cinnamon made it even better. Overall I'd recommend coming but it is quite pricey. We recently hosted a couples wedding shower here, and it could not have been a more perfect setting. The atmosphere was intimate and relaxed--exactly what you want for a celebration where people can mingle, laugh, and enjoy the moment together. The service truly stood out. Our servers, John, James, and Asia, were attentive, friendly, and seemed to anticipate what guests needed before we even had to ask. Justin, the manager, was also wonderful and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the event, which allowed us to relax and simply enjoy the celebration. Second time dining here for brunch in the past month. Food, drinks, and service have been great both times, 5 out of 5. However, they have started passing along credit card fees to your order if you don't pay in cash and nowhere on the menu do they make that clear. Really did not appreciate that you can't find that out until after you pay and get the receipt, if you even notice to look at the very last line item. We didn't have reservations so were escorted to the second dining area - which was lovely. The waitress was very attentive throughout the night & very pleasant. While this quaint little side building had a bar, our espresso martinis were brought from the main building. We assumed that bartender handle more complicated, mixed drinks. It was served promptly so we didn't experience any delay with the set up. And these were hands down the best espresso martini's I've had in Houston (hint, no Kailua used - deep and rich espresso taste with luxurious amount of foam). Tuna tartar was a wonderful starter & well seasoned though I would have appreciated a splash of acidity. Chicken piccata was moist and tender but, did not knock my socks off. Very respectable southern taste just no wow factor. I preferred the fish dish with risotto a better. The fish wasn't battered and while the sauces appeared to be very similar base, the sauce used on the fish was a bit more lemony - which I preferred. For dessert, we got the chocolate cake. It was good but, served a little too chilled. Brining it to room temperature would have made it a little more luxurious and moist. All in all a lovely night with solid food. I had dinner here last night and overall enjoyed the food, but there was one issue that left a very negative impression. I was surprised to see a 4% surcharge for non-cash payments, which felt a bit shady--especially since this policy wasn't disclosed on the website or menu not mentioned by the waiter. Transparency matters, and this caught me off guard at the end of the meal. It was also unusual that no paper bill was provided unless I specifically asked for a receipt. On top of that, the tip suggestions appear to be calculated on the total amount--including the surcharge and tax--rather than the pre-tax subtotal, which is the customary standard. I understand that restaurants face rising operational costs, but this doesn't feel like the right way to handle them. It's not really about the money--it's about principle and transparency. They have a choice in how they run their business and I have a choice where to spend my money. I sent a email to the managers regarding my concerns - after posting this, they did respond and willing to reach a resolution. I appreciate their efforts. read more

We've been here a handful of times, and I've been so impressed with Field and Tides each every time. The brussel sprouts and oyster appetizer is probably our favorite thing to start with. The hangar steak and the red fish are likewise our go to dishes, both of which are excellent. They also have daily specials, usually a fish, that are almost always worth getting if you're looking to mix it up. Service is always great, and the ambiance is really nice but laidback. Me and my friend went for restaurant week and were the only ones inside the restaurant midday . The fish was super yummy and enjoyed the cocktails. I was snacking on my salad and the waiter tried to take it from me more than three times and I finally had to say I'll turn my fork over when i'm finished with it so he would stop bugging me about it . Really loved the fish and the cheesy risotto with the sauce was very very good and i don't normally get fish at restaurants but gave it a try and i'm glad i did because i would get it again. The parking is very very limited and you basically have to have reservations for a night out on the weekends because of how small the restaurant is . The waiter eventually forgot about us for a while even though we were the only people there and we were wanting drinks . When we were paying I stated i wanted a box and was very sad when I never got my to go box. I would have been extremely excited for left overs but when I asked for them they said they threw it out even though i said i wanted it boxed. That was the only down fall of my experience. read more

Husbands and I had an impromptu date night here. Our server, Sam was on point with his customer service. He knew the menu front to back and even had recommendations and favorites. We tried two of his recommendations which were tasty. Fried oysters & Brussels and Pimento cheese. Then my husband and I split fried chicken and for a small upcharge they give you an extra protein. I was a little letdown with the fried chicken. It was slightly rubbery and lacked any real flavor. Luckily the dressing on top was very tasty and helped. The mashed potatoes were okay and you can't go wrong with green beans. 5 stars for Sam's service 5 stars for ambiance. Perfect for a date night 5 stars for the apps 3 stars for main dish 2 stars for the spicy margarita. My neighbor and I shared the peach salad and found that it was mostly arugula and it was hard to find the pea shoots but it was delicious and I really wanted pea shoots, so I got the beef rib which also had pea shoots. For dessert, strawberries and cream were good, but I found the cookies beneath inedible. It was an unpleasant sugar bomb. Best thing? Those pimento cheese balls were to die for. The sauce was slightly sweet and acidic, which cut the richness of the melted fried pimento cheese balls. Service was generous. They allowed us to close down the restaurant. And I'm. So glad they've lasted and grown! Last night we had the crab tostada and tuna poke to start. Both delicious, but if you're like me and have the busted cilantro taste bud, the tuna is safer - cilantro big enough to remove. I had the shrimp (pictured) based on the recommendation of one of the staff - I was not steered wrong. Dad had the scallops on my recollection of them from years ago. He thoroughly enjoyed it. For dessert I had the Caribbean Coffee, which is basically their take on an affogato. Dark Illy coffee with 12 yr Caribbean rum and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. PERFECT way to finish the night.
