We sat at the bar and ordered a few drinks and appetizers and had a wonderful experience. Moments after sitting down, we were brought complimentary Cheddar biscuits, which came with an incredible butter. Delicious! My favorite appetizer was the Mahi Mahi dip with homemade chips. Great flavor! Not fishy at all. I am looking forward to coming back to try the crab cakes. We also had the French fries, which were crispy and fresh. Make sure you ask for a side of tartar sauce to dip them in. Also! The almond cookies they had sitting by the front door were wonderful! Bartenders were very friendly, as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also! Bathrooms were clean and well appointed. I greatly appreciated the exfoliating Aesop soap they had! Lovely scent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
I walked in 30 minutes before closing and asked to sit at the bar. I read reviews and knew exactly what I wanted. I ordered everything at once. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This restaurant was stunning and the food did not disappoint.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had a Caesar salad and a crabcake with the perfect glass of wine.
Food: - Caesar salad is a must. The croutons are hard to miss. - fish sandwich was perfect. Soft bun with a crispy and meaty fish. Def recommend. - snapper is my fav. The almond crust and the flavorful romesco. Really yummy! - fries: perfectly salted and crisp. Great to share! - chocolate coulant: SO yummy. It's a warm chocolate cake with a crisp top filled with grape jam and peanut butter. With a side of pecan ice cream. Might be my favorite dessert! Service: - Jacob was an excellent server. Always available and very attentive. - everyone is so friendly and hospitable. We never feel rushed and all the food comes out with appropriate timing for each course. Ambiance: - [[HIGHLIGHT]]comfortable and cozy with an open kitchen concept. Great for date night or a celebration.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
Nice lunch experience! Service was exceptional. The staff was very kind and attentive. I like that there's a two course lunch menu for $25! Ordered the Mahi Mahi dip ($19) which comes with potato chips for dipping. The flavor was nice, it is a richer dip but I like how savory it was, and the salty chips made for a nice pairing. I did the two course lunch deal. The kataifi wrapped shrimp were very tasty and large. It is reminiscent of coconut shrimp with the flavor and texture, but much more elevated. I loved the crunch! The salmon was cooked perfectly- the skin was exceptionally crispy and the spinach was nice as well. The mushrooms were very savory. The cream sauce was pretty rich. I think the lunch menu is a great deal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating was comfortable, would be a great place for date night but it's not intimidating for a week day lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bathrooms were very clean![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One thing to note is that refills of soft drinks are not included in the original price (first Diet Coke was $5, refill was $3) which seems a bit silly.

Unfortunately, when we first arrived our glasses smelled strangely fishy and one of the forks also came with food stuck to it. For the amount we paid, I would have expected the utensils to be clean. I had a great time at navy blue for lunch this past Tuesday! I called on Monday to make the reservation at 1230 for the next day and had no issue scheduling it. The service from phone call to the end of the meal was wonderfully attentive and helpful. I actually went for restaurant weeks and I was blown away by the food. This was by far my favorite experience for restaurant weeks ever. I got the Kataifi-wrapped Fried Shrimp and Scottish Salmon. The fried shrimp was perfectly fried and not over oiled. The Scottish salmon was presented well in a delicious Bianco sauce. I would highly recommend this place for the delicious food and great vibes. I'll surely be back!
They offer complementary valet, with minimal self parking bc you are in Rice Village.. unless you are willing to park & walk a little bit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is quiet, but also went on a Wednesday at 5pm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. the oysters were yummy!! I loved the baked oysters in particular. I tried the fried, baked, and raw. Didn't love the fried ones, but those aren't really my thing. They had Texas, Murder point/Alabama, and Maryland oysters. Also got the Ceaser salad, the croutons are almost like fried bread biscuits - they are soft not super crunchy. It was different though! Service was really good! Sat at the bar and they chatted with me and were really sweet. Had good drink recommendations and the bartender was noticeably knowledgeable about wines. I'll be back again to try more options!
Navy Blue deserves more recognition. This seafood spot tucked away in Rice Village is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. At night, I highly recommend the valet for parking. During the day, you have a couple of lots surrounding the restaurant available to park. The service here is incredible. They are very attentive- including coat checking your leftovers and giving you a numbered chip to pick them up at the door. Don't skip the oysters. The bread service is delicious. They make their own hot sauce in house. All of the entrees are amazing. Their Houston restaurant week deal is a steal. I will be back for many other meals.
First time visiting, invited by friends--and what a great experience! [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the valet parking to the atmosphere, everything set the tone for a wonderful evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was outstanding: a team of waiters took care of us in a very professional and attentive way. We ordered branzino, red snapper, and oysters; everything was delicious, and each plate was presented impeccably. Since we were celebrating my partner's birthday, we ordered champagne, served at the perfect temperature, which made the moment even more special. We will definitely be back!
Came here for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. We parked and took a short walk to the entrance. We were greeted and promptly seated. Area is spacious and clean with plenty of natural light. Restrooms are clean and the soap is exquisite. We opted for the prefix menu,$35/person App: Caesar/My husband sent the gumbo back for my salad Entree: Scottish Salmon/Tagliatelle w/ crab Salmon & pasta were okay. I wasn't a fan of the after with the fresh pistachios, so I removed them and opted for more parm instead. You get cheddar scallion biscuits for the table, and they are awesome. As far as the food goes: -biscuits were amazing!! Not really sure what the butter was I couldn't pinpoint the flavor but the biscuits alone were good -pancake stack was good but could be better. The texture of the pancake were nice and thick with a crispy outside. The orange butter was nice and refreshing. But there needed to be more butter in between the pancakes so that they wouldn't be so dry. Of course you could also drench your pancake in syrup to fix that -fish sandwich with fries....underwhelming. The fries were good with Cajun seasoning on them. The bun on the sandwich was nice and soft. Nice portion of fish. But altogether it felt like there was a flavor or salt or something missing from the sandwich. -only sans mocktail was light and refreshing no complaints My friends had the navy blue burger which they said was pretty good
Visited Navy Blue during oyster hour, their happy hour. I sat at the bar to enjoy a few cocktails and oysters. I was a little disappointed with the speed of the service. There were only a handful of other people in the restaurant but I felt like it took a long time to be asked about my drink order. Furthermore, after ordering only a half dozen oysters it took almost 20 minutes for them to come out and the bartender even had to go check on them. Not sure what was going on, but maybe they just have a relaxed paced during happy hour? The oysters themselves were good and fresh and the accompanying mignonette was nice. They have a special on martinis during happy hour and the bartender made me a good cosmo that I enjoyed. The happy hour menu is limited but if you want somewhere you can get east coast oysters for a good price, I'd recommend this place. Overall, I'm on the fence about this restaurant but will make a point to visit at least once or twice more during lunch or dinner.
Not my first time @Navy Blue but I felt compelled to review my latest encounter straight away. I really appreciate an establishment with class, who owns their mishaps and makes it right. That happened tonight when my order came to me incorrect. 3 people came by to apologize. As someone who eats out often (too much), I can say attention like this is a rarity. Respect to navy blue. And respect to them bussin biscuits. Two word review: applause, applause.

Celebrating our friends birthday! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Was able to fit a group of 12 at a table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For drinks, I got a classic margarita with Reposado and Tajin on the rim (Keep in mind they up charge for Reposado $19 to $28). They served some complimentary biscuits and it was warm/soft paired wonderfully with the butter. Appetizer, we got 1/2 dozen grilled oysters (grilled nicely and I liked how they seasoned the oysters, had a small kick as well). Also, the Seafood Gumbo that had crab, shrimp, oyster and okra (quite a thick broth, it wasn't super flavorful, but not bad). For my main, I got the Lobster Roll (not on the menu in the restaurant) and it was fresh! Good amount of lobster chunks inside of the delicious buttery bread. Also, comes with a side of fries which were crispy and seasoned. Our group brought in our own cake to celebrate, but they charge $7/person like a "cake-idge fee", which is a bit ridiculous. This was my first time... I had already glanced at the Brunch menu. And was already looking forward to dining on some tasty dishes. Located in Rice Village area I already knew free parking would be a challenge. I tried to arrive early prepared to troll for a spot. Fortunately, I didn't have to try that hard. I was warmly greeted and politely ask to wait a moment. Escorted to the table and they took our drink order. Bread service cheddar biscuits - 10/10 - crispy, flaky, tender and flavorful Cesar Salad - 10/10 - crisp greens, full flavor dressing, anchovy and crispy nuggets of deliciousness (I am not exactly sure what they were called... it was like croutons and savory bread pudding had a baby, crispy outside and soft inside. French toast - 10/10 - Hong Kong Toast, stuffed French Toast and a doughnut had a ménage à trois and this was the end result. Crispy outside and lots of flavor. Crab Benedict - 10/10 - egg was cooked just right and crab cake was yummy, I really enjoyed taking a little bit of everything on the plate in one bite. Wish there were 2 on the plate. My hubby and I had a very nice date night at Navy Blue. The restaurant was very chic with dim lighting and our server was fairly attentive although it was busy for the weekend. For drinks I had the Pear Pressure, a wonderful yet sweet bubbly beverage. My hubby had their Amoxicillin mocktail which was very well made. Be sure to order the Caesar salad, we loved the large homemade croutons that were soft but crispy. Their homemade biscuits were very buttery and luxurious. The caramelle pasta with crab was a delight, although I would've liked a larger portion. Same for the crabcake, it was delicious but would've liked a larger portion. Long story short was that the flavor was there for a Bludorn establishment, but the portions could've been larger. Free valet available. read more

This place was amazing! The dishes I had were so flavorful and unique. There were a variety of dishes to choose from as well which was nice. The atmosphere is awesome and service was excellent! Since it is in rice village there's plenty of parking too which is nice. The red snapper is to die for! I also love the rolls with butter they serve. The burrata is great too with so much flavor! There are lots of tomatoes with it which is nice. The merengue with coconut ice cream is a nice, unique and tasty dessert not offered at most places. read more
What can I say other than wow! I came for a work holiday dinner, and I knew it was going to be amazing because of all the reviews and the restaurants that Navy Blue is tied to. From the moment we pulled up to valet, to entering the restaurant, the experience started off great! The restaurant is just beautiful, nicely lit, and highlight by the bar with as a great backdrop. We were taken to a private dining area that had the same ambiance as well and were greeted with champagne, yes please!! I dont recall our servers name, however, he was the most attentive. As our party arrived, he was quick to greet them with champagne as well, while also passing canapés for us! After being seated we had a preset menu, I went with the crab cake for first course, red snapper for second and key lime pie for third. For appetizers we also got to try all of the oyster which were raw, Rockefeller and fried, and ALL of them were amazing!! The Caesar salad as well is your traditional style and was nice crisp and delicious. The crab cake was delicious, nice size, really great portion size and packed packed packed with crab. The red snapper was definitely a star dish! The mash was a bit spicy, which was unexpected, but a nice surprise. I also got to try the tortellini, which came with a nice cream sauce. And would be great with some blackened shrimp or chicken, not sure if that's an option on the regular menu. The key lime pie is everything I could've imagined it be. With the ice cream and the toasted meringue, was a nice way to end the meal with a citrus light deliciousness! I can't wait to come back here and try some other items! read more

I can't say enough great things about this place! It's such a beautiful restaurant with great food! The crawfish risotto was so tasty and the key lime pie was the perfect dessert to finish my meal. My boyfriend ordered the carrot cake and it was amazing (I'm not really a carrot cake fan, either). This was my third time visiting and I can't wait to be back again. read more
We'll start with the pros: nice ambience, staff were friendly, cocktails are good and I love when restaurants have their own unique cocktails. But the food was not good, sadly. 3 out of 5 of our dishes were too salty. And I'm not a salt-sensitive person at all. The fries were soggy. And the mussels surprisingly seemed underseasoned. After I told them the risotto was too salty, the offered something else. So I ordered the squid ink linguine to-go and requested low salt -- and that was perfectly seasoned. So maybe the trick is to ask for low salt for their dishes. read more

Cozy, upscale restaurant but not snobby - the food is delicious and focuses on technique just as much as quality of ingredients and flavor. Perfect for a nicer date or to take your friend who's visiting Houston. The cocktails are unique and delicious. The complimentary biscuits the meal starts with was enough to make me love this place so definitely make sure you try them. They are so fluffy and delicious. Pasta was freshly made and the brown-butter sage combo was so good right as the weather was starting to get cold. Clam fritters were yummy, I'm sucker for fritters in general but these were light but still full of flavor and perfectly accompanied with dill aioli and lemon. Snapper was nice, I will say ours felt a little overcooked but I still loved it. GET TO THE DESSERT!! The ice cream is so so good. Some of the best I've had personally. What an amazing daytime experience at the Navy Blue Restaurant!!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The waitstaff, the relaxed environment, and of course the eclectic yet flavorful dishes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So let's start with the multicultural waitstaff who were very warm, welcoming, and polished in their presence. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment was classy, but comfortable so it made the vibes very pleasant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now the eats!!! The crab cake was full of flavors with an added layer of flaky, but not too crispy. The Caesar Salad ...freshly made with a surprising twist!!! The croutons were not stale and dry...they were actually softer like French toast bites, but with a slight crisp. The Fish Sandwich was freshly made with a light flakey texture. Chef Bludorn has a signature hot sauce that is really full of flavor and has the heat!!! So good I purchased a bottle. The Blackened Snapper had a spicy kick with some Caribbean flavors. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. This was actually my second time visiting, the first being shortly after they initially opened. Funny enough I ordered the same dish both times and didn't even realize it! Let's talk about the high points both times, the bread service and the grilled oysters were both great. The first time, my main dish, lobster ravioli, was bland. But this recent visit was a total 180. The ravioli had a good amount of lobster and the sweet potatoe created a nice twist to the flavor. Ww visited for an engagement dinner so there was also a seafood tower ordered. It was pretty standard fare, and nothing stood out as good or bad. It was shrimp, raw oysters, an tuna dip with chips. A good amount of food for the 6 or so people at our end of the table. The wait staff was great on both occasions, super nice and attentive. Leaving the restaurant you get these little sweets which were delicious and I have zero idea what they were, but get two! Overall I definitely recommend this place and I'm glad I gave them a second chance. Also, there is complementary valet so don't be a goof and miss the sign like I did! read more
We went to Navy Blue for a Saturday brunch, we were able to street park nearby. The interior was chic and beautiful! The restaurant was big but it wasn't too crowded. We order a few items to share and they also brought us complimentary biscuits. Overall, food was good but surprisingly not too memorable. Navy Blue was a total Houston Restaurant Week Find. I've probably passed this place ten different times and just never noticed it. Parking is abundant- it is located in Rice Village so ample parking paid or unpaid. They also offer a valet service. The restaurant is beautiful. It's clean. It's modern. It's upscale. You can celebrate an anniversary, graduation, or just come here to have a really nice experience. Fast and attentive service- I never saw my glass go empty. Of the three courses, I had the Caesar Salad, The Branzino, and then the Chocolate Coulant. I enjoyed everything. The Branzino's highlights was the really well pan-fried skin. The star of the show was the Chocolate Coulant, though. The scotch ice-cream, the perfect cooked chocolate lava cake situation... if nothing else, I'll come back for dessert. The thing about this place is it's nice. Would I remember this place next to some similar-priced rivals? Probably not. For restaurant week this was worth it, but I can't say I'd go out of my way to come again for the food (but perhaps for the dessert! ha) read more

We were excited to see Navy Blue on the Houston Restaurant Weeks list this year and knew it was our opportunity to finally check it out. While there were a few hiccups, for the most part, this is now our favorite spot in the city for seafood. I hate to say the star attraction at Navy Blue is their homage to Red Lobster's biscuits, but that is the truth. The biscuits are life changing and are worth the visit alone. But if biscuits aren't enough, the Caesar Salad was a real winner. I upgraded the salad to include fried oysters, which were cooked nicely for flavor and didn't scream deep fryer. The grouper sandwich was a winner, as well as the tagliatelle which was available with a crab uprgrade. Desserts were great as well -- the right size to top off the meal. After being completely wowed by the service at Bludorn, we were a bit disappointed when our server disappeared for much of the meal and we were left without drinks for our main course. I'm not sure what happened, but once the managers caught on to our situation, they took care of our final round which was greatly appreciated. Given how it was handled, I'd write it off to an odd night. Given the price point, I would save Navy Blue for a special occasion, but it shouldn't be missed. read more

My husband and I had a dozen of the raw Matagorda oysters, blackened red snapper with orzo and brussel sprouts as the sides. Then the key lime pie for dessert. Everything was amazing but as someone else mentioned about some dishes being salty, I do agree that the brussel sprouts had too much salt. If you get those, make sure to say light salt. Otherwise everything else was delicious! Our server was great and seemed knowledgeable. Would go back. read more

The food was good but not great. We enjoyed the branzino dish, but it could have used some more complexity. The biscuits were a bit bland, and the carrot cake was a bit too salty. The chilled shrimp was the best dish, and I liked the kick in the sauce. I enjoyed the ambience, which was modern and upscale but not overstated. Service was very attentive. read more

New fave alert! Ok, so the ambience is casual, but still has a bougie feel. The decor reminds me of Loch Bar. Idk about you but I look at restrooms. There's was super nice with an Aesop scrub for soap and nicer napkins. They do play music, but it's at the perfect tempo. I sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly. We had in-depth conversations about different mezcals, which are my fave. He was also able to whip up a delicious off the menu drink for me based on my preferences. And this wasn't because I didn't like the menu drinks, but once I learned this place was more mixology, I decided to try a different drink every time. Last but not least - the food! It just so happened to be restaurant week so I asked my waiter for a recommendation and he said the salmon. Now I love salmon, but it's not my go-to try when I go somewhere new because it's everywhere. He kept insisting on how good it was so I gave it a try. it was so good. The edges were crispy, but the inside was juicy and tender. I'm not even sure the rest was som fancy sweet pea mash and corn and blah blah. You have to eat it all at the same time! It was so good. I don't the Tuna crudo for my app and it's was tasty, not my fave, but still really good. read more

Is Navy Blue casual dress?
I would say more business casual but its a very non pretentious venue.
What Is the noise level?
It is a large open area so of course there is noise but the six of us had no problem carrying on a nice conversation. The service and food are worth a little noise.
How's the parking situation?
There is unmetered street parking around the restaurant but it may require you to walk a few blocks. The restaurant has a valet option which we found easier to use.
Do you have to have to have a reservation?
Unless you go super early or late, yes you should get a reservation
