What a great place to get Chinese food in Houston! The food was very flavorful, not too salty, presented neatly, the service was great! The place inside is also very beautiful, the menu has a lot of tasty options. Overall, I highly recommend and would come back.

Yum! Enjoyed this place from start to finish. It is decorated very tastefully and beautifully- we really loved the design. The story about the owners parents was really lovely too. We loved the drinks as well- we got the el Diablo and the bamboo martini. Both were absolutely delicious! Very complex flavors. For dinner we started with the savory scallion waffle which was really delicious! It was very airy and light and tasted more like bread than a waffle. The butter on it was so unique and amazing! Next we had the fajita chow fun, which I really enjoyed. It was a little spicy and the noodles had a wonderful flavor. Lastly we had the rice cakes. This was probably my least favorite hoenstly, not bad but it was very heavy on the rice flavor and I feel like it overpowered the rest of the dish. Overall though, everything was amazing! Would definitely go back

Went to Houston last weekend and was very impressed by all the food. We came here for brunch on a Sunday. Service was so accommodating and friendly and even though we did not specifically request a booth on our reservation they were able to give us a booth. We ordered: Scallion waffles: love loved. The butter was really umami and loved the texture of this. Would eat again if lived in town. Noodles: it was just okay. The noodles themselves had a great texture but I think the description of the dish made us think it was going to be more acidic and overall other than the mushrooms in it it lacked flavor. Needed to go harder on the sauce. Congee: loved loved loved. Pickled vegetables were great in it. Was so umami and happiness inducing. Crab omelette: it wasn't my thing but husband and sister in law devoured and loved it. Overall I would come again! Wish I lived in Houston

Finally had the chance to check out this new Asian American diner! What a interesting take! Had their savory scallion waffle with sambal honey butter, one of their most popular items and it did not disappoint! A great mix of savory with a hint of sweetness to it. My brother and I loved it. Theres a distinct aftertaste that surprised us so much. Ill have to try the addition of the chicken next time but overall I think this dish was worth it. Kim-Chilaquiles - wow really love the fusion here. Kimchi and chilaquiles, both two items I love. Large portion, with a side of avocado. This was easily a favorite between us as well. Really worth! Breakfast bling - green chorizo, eggs, scallion pancake, spicy crema - wasn't a huge fan of this one. It was fairly bland scallion pancake that was essentially a crispy tortilla that I think could have used more spicy crema spread out with more chorizo & eggs. The toppings on this is VERY thin. The ambiance was lovely inside, I think they nailed that asian inspired dinner feel. Since Lunar new years was more recent they still had some Lunar new year lanterns up. The prices here are a bit higher as to be expected of a more upscale asian diner. Parking is plentiful nearby. We were able to walk in and be seated for Sunday's brunch but I imagine a reservation would be needed for more peak times Overall I think this place is great and will come back! Will have to give the cheeseburger fried rice a try next.

Took mom here while she was in town and loved it! We tried the Cheeseburger fried rice (7/10), Taiwanese Disco fries (10/10), and the Crawfish Egg Foo Young (0/10). We loved the first two dishes as they were a great combination of vietnamese cuisine and american flavors we all love. The last was not our favorite and tasted like "burnt eggs". Despite this, service was AMAZING from the servers to owners, I would definitely come back to try more they have to offer! Such a cute aesthetic and love the vietnamese representation!

Everything was fantastic. It's a cute little space with really friendly staff. The food. Amazing. My husband loves Asian American food, while I love a good diner. This restaurant is the best of both. Krab Rangoons are always a necessity in my mind. Turning it into a dip?! Next level. They have a fun bar service. I think the only two things my husband has talked about in the past four days are the crawfish egg foo young and a creepy podcast I've been listening to, because I know bout all the good stuff. Get yourself here before they get the James Beard "Best New Restaurant" title, and you have to wait months to get a reservation.

Cute interior that reminded me of a refined diner. Service was very prompt and approachable. They have. plastic plates, bowls , and silverware for kids so I was pretty charmed. Our server gave great recommendations and helped us pick out the perfect amount of dishes. It's hard to pinpoint which dishes are a must as everyone in my group kinda had their own favorite. I ordered the Dou milk shake which was fun flavor wise but was not texturally like a milk shake. I don't think it met the definition of milk shake what so ever. Very liquidity, lots of ice, not very sweet (I didn't mind this and it made the drink actually quite pleasant). I think if it was called something else other than a milk shake, I would have loved it more. The mocktail - Mojo-Nono was very refreshing. Will try to make this at home. Well balanced citrusy drink that would be perfect in the summer. All the dishes came out super fast - suspiciously fast. Although good, none of the food was hot. The scallion waffle was a favorite of everyone - even the non waffle lover. The butter carries the dish but the waffle was fluffy. The scallion flavor wasn't very present but still delicious. My personal favorite was the Engsu's Chicken. Great crunch, salty but not too salty. Loved the lettuce combo and the sauce with it amplified the umami factor. The Taiwanese Disco Fries didn't hit the mark. It was missing the crunch and all the goobers on it distracted from the fries which were far too thin. The Jian-BLT was cool because in essence - it was just a classically good BLT but wrapped in an egg. I kinda wanted to have something dip it in but that's just me. The krab Rangoon also loved - not too fishy, not overwhelmingly cream cheesy. The cheeseburger rice was decisive. Maybe too exotic for me. I can't put my had on what I don't like but overall still well done and half of my group would order again. We had a great time and the portions are generous. We would return.

Every item was a hit- the waffle had such a unique flavor and was delicous must order. I will be back to try more dishes that weren't on their brunch menu. Atmosphere is casual cute diner.

We made reservations. This place is super cute. Asian fusion comfort food. So much comfort in the food. I'm so glad I got to experience it with my besties. We shared three plates and a dessert amongst four people. The staff was helpful in making recommendations. We will definitely return to try other dishes.

Egg foo young
Eleni K.

Nick Wong and team, you've done something really special here! What a unique (and delicious) concept, set in an aesthetically retro and fun space. Without a doubt the best "diner" food I've ever had. Every dish is such a great fusion of culture and flavors, but in particular the scallion waffle, Rangoon, chilled cucumber, and egg foo young blew me away. Thanks for bringing something new and amazing to the Houston dining scene!

this was definitely a pricier brunch we ordered the savory scallion waffle with fried orange chicken ($24) and the breakfast bing ($20). the breakfast bing was just okay, but the savory scallion waffle was very yummy especially with the orange chicken! it came with two chicken thighs that were super flavorful and crispy on the outside. the waffle had the perfect crunch & the sambal honey butter really tied everything together. would definitely order this again. service was just okay. they had a private party wrapping up, and we asked if we could sit at one of the tables they were cleaning. we were told no since those seats were reserved for the party, and were directed to sit at the bar (which was actually within the private party area). about 10 minutes later - they seated other guests at the exact table we had asked for & the whole time we were there, people from the party were standing right behind us talking, which made the experience pretty uncomfortable. also, he bartender spilled part of a drink onto our plate lols Savory Scallion Waffle with fried orange chicken ($24) sambal honey butter + add fried orange chicken +10 Breakfast Bing * $20 green chorizo, eggs, scallion pancake, spicy crema

Chicken Caesar Wrap

Agnes and Sherman is a diner located on Montrose, which focuses on Asian-American fusion, and brings a creative twist to the Asian-American fusion food scene in Houston. Their menu has a variety of different classic American dishes, such as burgers, BLTs, Cajun food, Tex-Mex, and more, and blends it with a variety of dynamic Asian flavors from Korean to Taiwanese to Vietnamese, showcasing a "fusion within a fusion," that reflect their diverse culinary backgrounds. The dishes I tried were savory scallion waffle, chicken caesar salad wrap, and egg foo young. The savory scallion waffle was my favorite and was a food mixture of sweet and savory with the sambal honey butter. The chicken caesar wrap was more on the oily side but very crispy. I did wish it came with a sauce to dip in, as it felt like it was missing something. The egg foo young was slightly saltier than I expected but a good combination of flavors, and I thought it was pretty good. After living in San Francisco for some time, the diner is very reminiscent of SF with a Houston mix. I really love the interior, and I think it's a great place if you are stuck in a rut and want to try something different and new that you can't really find in other places in Houston.

Steak Frites
Rachel W.

This place is such a neat concept! It's like an asian american diner - mixing diner food with asian flavors. My personal favorite was the shrimp toast! It was so delicious and had the same flavor profile as the walnut shrimp dish at a chinese restaurant. The cheeseburger fried rice was pretty interesting. It tasted like a deconstructed burger, but it was fried rice. The jian-BLT was also pretty good! Steak was cooked well but might suggest using a different cut of meat. It wasn't very tender from what I remember. The sundae was also really good! Comes with 3 massive scoops of ice cream and a tall stack of whipped cream. Awesome way to end a comfort fusion meal Service was good and our server was helpful in pointing out some highlights from the menu. One of the co-owners noticed my family trying to take a selfie and she offered to take a picture for us! So nice and attentive Make sure to make reservations! It was very busy when I went on a Tuesday night. Free street parking.

Why 5 stars? Because this is an excellent combination of thai and bbq…read more --- --- --- Up in the north burbs, we recently had a similar fusion concept (thai + BBQ) open up and we really love it. It's not a combo I get bored of easily, so I was happy to try another rendition. And I'm happy to say I really enjoyed it. We started off by sharing the brisket egg rolls and the brisket curly fries - both were home runs. No notes. I really wanted to try the brussels sprouts too but was overruled on that. And then I ordered a bowl with pad thai and brisket. The brisket was very thinly sliced and I'd call it more "good" than "great", but the pad thai noodles were absolute heaven. Some of the best I've had in a long time, to be honest. A cool thing about the restaurant is that there's a secret door that takes you into a space with a completely different vibe - somewhat of an upscale speakeasy situation. We were the only people in the place, but I could definitely see how they could utilize both spaces, whether just want some fast casual-ish dining or kind of a fancy night out. A really unique concept on both fronts and I hope to visit again!

So much so that I no longer order the side but opt for the Jarred option, it's bursting with flavor. The cabbage has a wonderful texture, it's a perfect balance. The curry puff was good, I would have preferred a more pronounced curry flavor but the flakiness made up for it. The orange chicken was good, I would have liked more sauce but it was still very good. My friend Aurora wanted to meet Donna early dinner and gossip session and she really liked this place. (We tried having a team lunch at the Rice Village location during the cold front last Oct but they had no heat so we opted for a warmer place but she grabbed a to go on the way home) Here we are for a late lunch 3:45 pm on a Friday. Parking was none had to drive around the block and saw some movement and bam, someone was leaving. We ordered at the bar, staff was super nice and opted to sit outside. Did not realize they deliver to the table. Order: Mongolian beef combo with fried rice and egg roll $14.99 The food comes in takeaway style containers. Win. Mongolian beef (2.5/5) - slightly over sauced for me; beef was pretty tender and there were carrots and edamame which is not the standard so maybe that's what makes it fusion? Fried rice (3/5) - standard style fried with small pieces of bean sprouts which I love so that was a nice surprise Egg roll (3/5) - I assume it was chicken because I didn't realize there was a choice) - it was crunchy and soft on the inside which I like, and pairs well with sriracha (did not eat till I got home) They seem to do a whole lot of take away. The staff were nice and hard working. I was excited when they first opened bc they had chow fun on the menu and being HK Cantonese, I love that dish but when I ordered it the 1st and 2nd time eight years ago instead of bean sprouts they had cabbage and that alters rhe flavor tremendously. I see why it's popular among the people but just don't think it is for my taste.

I recommend getting here very early, and preorder online if you can. I got here probably 15 minutes before they opened and there was already a line forming. Plenty of covered seating and the lawn area is pretty scenic. Here's what I ordered: Brisket BBH: the BBH is pretty good. Clean and light broth, but I think it would've benefitted from a little more sate as it was on the blander side. I think the brisket didn't really complement the dish. It was just thrown in there. It honestly would've been better without it, as the brisket makes the price tag quite steep... Pork ribs, brisket, spare ribs: gonna group these all together because they were all a bit of a letdown... Brisket wasn't as flavorful as I thought it would be for a Viet BBQ place. Both the pork ribs and spare ribs were dry. I like mine to be falling easily off the bone. Smoked turkey: most and flavorful but a little too salty. Bo La lot sausage: it was pretty flavorful, but I think if they really wanted to elevate this dish, they should wrap the sausage in lolot leaves... so it's true to its name. Curry dish: this tastes like your typical Thai red curry paste from the can. Rice was also a bit dry. Banh Xeo: probably my favorite dish. Very unique flavor... fatty, rich, savory! I would get this again. Too bad it's so small! Vietnamese slaw: quite literally (barely) pickled cabbage... not sure what makes it Vietnamese... Bok choy: typical stir fry wok style flavor. It's good, but small portion. Overall, I was a tad bit disappointed. The marketing team does a really good job of making their dishes look so delicious.
