Options are limited for breakfast near my work, so I opted for Frank's. I have ordered from them in the past and it has been ok. I tried the fish this time and will say the coating was ok, however, it slipped off. I asked for fried hard. I felt the food today was bland and lacked any flavor. I ended up not finishing and just disposed of it. I ordered via door dash so I am unsure of the ambiance. read more

Another stop for breakfast, another great meal. I took my son for breakfast and Franks was top of my list. I went with the Shrimp n Grits - a bit different for breakfast, but it's on the menu. And I love shrimp n grits. I got a large bowl loaded with grits and shrimps and bacon and cheese and onions. I had them cut the mushrooms as they ain't my thing. This dish was D-lish. Very good. It was a lot and I had some good leftovers I finished off at lunch. As for the boy, he went with French toast, ham steak and scrambled eggs w/ a sided of a biscuit n gravy. He made quick work of those plates. Can't wait until next time there - I think I'm gonna try a breakfast burrito. Olé. Later. read more

I'm back Frank's and wow! It's everything you want a diner to be: Fantastic service; Pleasant atmosphere; Delicious and quickly prepared food; and it's super Clean. I had the spinach and mushroom omelette with hash browns and toast. First of all, it literally came out 5 minutes after I ordered it. It also came with a salsa on the side that was sooo good. Everything was exactly what I hoped it would be. If you're like me you can become a little fatigued by all of the "trending" eateries. Nothing against them, but sometimes you just need a dose of straight-forward, no-frills deliciousness and service which is exactly what Frank's provides. I can't recommend enough! read more

Large large portions at a very reasonable price. A late Tuesday breakfast was still crowded, and it maintained that way as the hour turned into lunch. It has a classic diner atmosphere although the bar counter area isn't very large so there are not much seating there. Staff is very friendly, efficient, and attentive. Ordered the Frank's signature breakfast with fish and was shocked to get two large fillets. I ate everything but had to additionally season the food, especially the grits. Luckily, there was a large bottle of hot sauce at the table. read more

Delicious breakfast, decent wait time. I did witness the cook texting on his phone with the same gloves he was cooking and picking up pancakes with but other than that everything was fine. It's a diner type of place and a Houston staple. read more

It's not an Old Fashioned Diner, it's just old. Gross and dilapidated. Disorganized and eerie. Never been served a Country Fried steak where each ingredient came on a separate plate. Flavor was mediocre. Curious why the owner decided to put a bright TV with menu items in the middle of this dark and dingy dining room floor. It's really jarring. Like we get it, I can see the same items on the menu I was handed. Inspired by fast food tv menus maybe? Spend some money on real renovations next time. Also saw a vulture outside the window looking in. Either a bad omen or thats their mascot. read more

My husband and I have been eating at Frank's for over 35 years in one location or another. And, that alone should serve as a testament to how much we love these diner style restaurants! The food is always good, plentiful and efficiently served. The hash-browns and grits are always fresh and cooked perfectly. The homemade rolls are fluffy and delicious and the pancakes are generously sized and thick. And, on the very rare occasion that there has been a mix up on an order, things were rectified quickly and with no hassles. So you should understand that we were devastated by the news that the Frank's location closest to our house was totally destroyed by fire recently. That would be the 1915 Mangum Rd. location. It is my understanding from employees at neighboring businesses that they plan to reopen, at least temporarily, in a vacant building on a lot that is adjacent to the burned building. I have not checked that for any factual accuracy, so take it with a grain of salt, as it were. Meanwhile, we will drive the extra miles to one of the other locations. read more

I really liked this place, from the service, to the open grill where you can watch the food getting prepared, and the chicken wings were crispy and big. Hash browns were the bomb. I think the waffle was good but the texture was a little mushy, not sure if it was undercooked or just the way the batter is. Anyway, definitely would return if in Houston again. read more

This is the location on Veterans Memorial. When you 1st walk in nobody is in a hurry to help you even though they are standing at the counter doing nothing. Last time I waited 10 mins no one came to take my order say we will be right with you so I got up and left. So here I go again giving them a chance why they serve me and old meat lover omelet? It was not fresh! I am eating the ham inside it's old and hard. I looked at the Mexican man's omelet next to me his eggs were lighter and it was fresh. So they dislike us African Americans? The lady who walked in ahead of me, she was black and already seated when I walked in. They had not even taken her order. The waitress said another waitress was suppose to take her order. These Hispanics in this location are racist. My food was old very much so. I will not be going back. This fact how they feel about us is engrained in them ad a people. This location needs to be boycotted. They don't want our business now I am hearing this is going on at Texas Roadhouse as well? read more

A friend visiting from out of town is really into diners. During his stay, I chose the vegan option of hash browns and black coffee most days. Meanwhile, my friend explored the entire menu and had no complaints about anything. Even when the diner was busy, the service was fast and friendly; my coffee cup was never empty. It was the kind of diner experience you would expect, reminiscent of visits with your grandparents--done right. read more

Server was fantastic the food was terrible I ordered crispy hash browns and I got barely cooked hash browns. Floor manager came by and said oh we're too busy to make them crispy. The bacon tasted good but it looked like it was cooked 3 days ahead they don't have real butter it's just oil on the grits everything was bad. I've actually done UberEats from this place many times for my wife that works down the street, and she always has great things to say about their food. So, down the road the other day and decided to come try their lunch menu. As soon as I saw chicken & waffles, you know I had to give them a try. The waffle was pretty amazing which is what my wife usually says about it, and the chicken wings looked great and had a good taste, but they were VERY chewy and i had to literally pull on the "meat" to eat them. I figured it was just a rush day for them so I didn't say anything and just ate my lunch, but literally an hour later, my stomach was in knots! I'll give them a pass because my wife loves their breakfast, but they should really make sure stuff is actually cooked before getting it out of the kitchen. read more

Action seats on a Saturday morning! Got to sit at the bar and watch the staff handle order after order. We ordered everything that we could think of because we didn't want to miss out on a good bite! Chicken and waffles, biscuits, eggs, bacon....and hashbrowns from the huge mound on the flattop that are perfectly cooked. Every bite had us going back for more despite full bellies . The staff was super friendly and checked in often despite the busy restaurant. While we didn't try the WHOLE menu like we would have wanted, we will definitely be back to try the breakfast tacos, French toast, and omelettes that looked amazing while being cooked! read more

Was truly disappointed in the quality of the food! Went to have breakfast on Monday 1/2/23 and the my southern breakfast was terrible! Pork chops had no flavor and were hard, asked for cheese on my hash browns which they forgot so when taken back they just slapped a cold piece of cheese on it! I usually go to the HWY6 location which doesn't disappoint! Do better...this place is crowded and service was horrible too! Being understaffed is not an excuse when there were two able bodies by the cash register to help out! read more

My daughter and I went this morning for breakfast. As we came in, a woman sort of grunted at us and motioned to the tables, which we took to mean "pick a seat." Maybe that wasn't what she meant because we waited about 10 minutes while various employees looked at us before going back to their phones. Other than the woman who grunted at us, no one acknowledged us in any way. We are visiting from out of town and chose this place because it was close to the hotel and got decent yelp reviews. We ended up leaving and going to Jackie's instead, where we were actually seated and served. read more

I started to go to Franks grill back in the 80s @ golf gate location. I been living near hwy6 and Clay for the past 18 years. I was so happy when the open Franks Grill location 1 mile from my house. At first it was same service and same quality food. Year passed and so the food quality. For about 2 years I noticed the quality of the food has been decaying and I show up and @ 7:30 am 23Dec2024 , order breakfast to go and of course expect fresh food. And this is what I get (picture). Bacon and cheese omelet was good, no complaints there. The hash browns only the upper portion was fresh and the bottom portion was burnt (probably from the day before). Maybe different owner? Or different cook or maybe just start a new trend and increase prices and lower quality. Good luck to all customers. I hope this does not happen to you too. read more

On 10/05/2025 I wish restaurants would just accept the responsibility, they messed up your food order. Instead of giving the wrong excuses about on what and how it supposed to be done. 2 days in a row, my order was not at the best. I ordered on Friday a sausage and egg sandwich with my egg over easy. The toast wasn't toasted. The egg wasn't over easy and the meat was cooked hard too fast burned on one side. That order was to go. Saturday I ordered the French toast sandwich with bacon, cheese and egg over easy. Great sandwich cooked just like I ordered it. Sunday today' I ordered sausage, biscuits and gray on the side over easy eggs and country potatoes: the gray wasn't hot. I sent it back they put in the microwave and gave me the same bowl. After I stuck my finger in it and ask for a fresh bowl. The potatoes look pretty but wasn't cook all the way done. I explained it to the young Hispanic woman who's the cashier all the time. She said she check it. But now it's hot. Why do restaurants think just because it's sits in the metal container that the food is hot. The container is hot but not the temperature of the food. Then she proceeded to tell me my order from Friday because of the sausage my over easy eggs was cooked hard. I literally was out done. I told her that's not true. You not a chef/ short order cook. When i bite the egg the yellow liquid should come leaking out. If it doesn't leak out that means it was cooked hard. Then we you send it back the tall Hispanic cook catches an attitude. He looks at you with the face expression like come on. Consistency and professionalism is all ways a must. Your cooking to my liking not his. So I eat there at least 2 or more a week. Now it's time to say goodbye and go down the streets to Angies. I tip well over every time I go. It's not cheap to eat there. read more

Came here on an early Sunday morning. There wasn't a wait. The booths we sat in however, was super tight and gave no breathing room. I assure you, I'm always on a diet, but I don't have a huge stomach! It took awhile before someone came to greet us and take our drink order. I ordered the South of the Border Skillet minus chorizo--good and no complaints. Typical neighborhood breakfast/diner joint. A place to consider when you're lazy or not in the mood to cook. Nothing really wowed me. The service was average. Booths could use more space. read more

The food and ambiance of Frank's Grill needs serious attention and consideration upon how they make their meals. I've been in here two times and the first time the floors are dirty and the tables are barely clean! I overlook this because I love food and that's the main point :) but I was let down horrendously. Firstly I ordered a breakfast special, with some scrambled eggs and bacon and some pancakes with some hash brown. Oh! And the service was great, my server was fabulous and delivered things and was extremely attentive god bless her heart :) however when the food was delivered it was just degrading. The eggs were ok but the hash brown was actually gross it wasn't cooked all the way and it was basically just slop. The bacon wasn't cooked all the way either and was basically almost raw-ish. I wouldn't come here again at all. It's dirty, sloppy and gross. Hope this place can turn themselves around and improve I'd love to see it :( read more

It's been awhile that I have been here. Things have gone down hill. Cheese was not melted in my eggs. Has browns were not cooked. Steak was over cooked and chewy.
