She told me this was unusual for Ashley because she is normally one of their best servers and mentioned that they had a large party. However, that explanation didn't really change our experience. From where we were sitting, the restaurant did not appear overwhelmingly busy, and regardless, 20 minutes without even checking on a table that hasn't ordered its entrées is excessive. The manager said she would speak with Ashley, but the conversation honestly felt dismissive and like a waste of time. And just to be clear, I wasn't looking for my $18 bill to be comped. I paid it. Instead, my entire prix fixe meal came out first, followed by some of the appetizers, while my boyfriend's entree was nowhere to be found. His Steak Frites did not come out until the VERY END, after we had already informed our server that we were finished with our meal. Only then was the entree brought out. What made the situation more disappointing was that there didn't seem to be much concern about the timing. Our server simply suggested packing his meal to go. I didn't appreciate finishing my entire meal first and then having to sit and watch my boyfriend eat his entree at the end. We came to enjoy lunch together, and the pacing made it feel like we were eating two separate meals. As for the food, I would skip the maki. The quality of the sushi roll honestly wasn't even comparable to buffet sushi. The burger is usually delicious, but because I waited for my boyfriend's food to come out before eating mine, it ended up being cold. The Karaage was too sweet for my liking and had too much fish sauce. The Steak Frites were good, but they would have been much more enjoyable if they had arrived on time. I'm not sure what happened with the Steak Frites, but considering they did not come out until after we told our server we were finished with our meal, it felt like the order may have been forgotten or not entered in a timely manner. To make the experience even more frustrating, when we received our bill, we noticed that we had also been charged for an extra burger that we never ordered. After everything that had already happened with the timing and service, seeing an additional item incorrectly added to our tab just made the overall experience even more disappointing. For dessert I had the (tarta de Santiago)-almond cake- again it was fine- I wasn't overly impressed with it- was a little dry. When I came back the second time was a much better experience! Started off with el pulpo again (of course) and we also had the Patatas bravas.- they are very unique and creamy. We also tried a pistachio and beet salad which was very light and refreshing. The almond soup- was ok- I will pass on it next time. And the main course we had the Bomba rice with seafood- very similar to paella. I really enjoyed this dish! Nestled in an old home, the atmosphere is upscale and cozy at the same time. The restaurant is filled with masterpieces that match the culinary artistry for which BCN Taste & Tradition is known. BCN...the airport code for Barcelona. So of course the food brings the delights of Spanish cuisine to Montrose. It also features modern Spanish masters in the decor. The complimentary bread service was a great way to start the meal. Since we don't eat pork or shellfish, they brought us a small plate filled with manchego cheese (my favorite) and small white spoons topped with the most delicious artichoke hearts. Thank you for the VIP service. What a great to start a five star dining adventure! We went for the Houston Restaurant Week (HRW) menu. Our waiter, Roberto, was great. He helped guide us given our dietary restrictions. He also gave us an art history lesson on the beautiful works that are scattered throughout the converted two story former Victorian home. You coukld tell that he and his assistant, Romy, love their "home." For the appetizers, the "Patatas Bravas BCN" is a classic. Potatoes filled with spicy oil and alioli. The perfect bite for a hot appetizer. We also had the beet-pistachio-raspberry ravioli salad. The paper thin sliced multicolored beets are magically filled with kefir cheese and pistachio oil to create beet ravioli. So delicious. The entrees were so delicious. The Grilled Duck Breast is served with sliced quince, Idiazábal cheese sauce, pine nuts and balsamic vinegar reduction. It is so beautiful and the sauce is a joyful explosion of flavor. My husband upgraded to the Grilled Lamb Chops as the Grandma's sauce for the filet mignon has shellfish in it. Thank you, Roberto, for letting us know. The lamb chops are served with BCN potatoes, roasted zucchini filled with eggplant, red bell pepper, onion, and a confit tomato and a side of garlic alioli to enhance the lamb. So tasty. Finished the meal with the crispy fillo dough and the chocolate cake in textures. The crispy fillo dough is filled with the creamiest Catalán vanilla brûlée and aged rum raisins. The decadent chocolate cake and chocolate mousse is served with a cute little ice cream cone filled with a refreshing raspberry sorbet. The perfect way to cap a wonderful meal. Since Roberto told us so much about the art, I had to visit the original masterpieces by modern Spanish master artists. Joan Miró. Pablo Picasso. Salvador Dalí. Paintings and ceramics that adorn the walls, the bookcases, the fireplace. Thank you to Paco for sharing the story behind the two Salvador Dalí pieces in the private dining room. A necklace for Dominique de Menil, who founded the Menil Collection, and a collage created to advertise pantyhose. Amazing! The attention to the fine details throughout BCN Taste +Tradition is commendable. A few of our favorites are the scallop tiradito, yakisoba with either chicken or wagyu, spicy yellowtail roll, and the surf and turf. For nigiri, we love the chu toro, shima aji, sake toro, and unagi. Consistently great food, wonderful service, and a spot we're always happy to come back to. Highly recommend!

A host quickly seated us, and our server explained the happy hour and regular menu to us. We decided on the paratha smash burger, spaghetti bolognese, and for drinks the lusty monk and mango uncensored. Our drinks came first - we thoroughly enjoyed the lusty monk which was essentially a spiced margarita. The mango uncensored was more of a miss - it tasted nice but seemed a bit bland for a full-price cocktail. It comes with a small piece of mango sweet on top of the ice cube which didn't do much for me. Now the food - which was fantastic. The standout here was the paratha smash burger - I've never tried a paratha burger and I absolutely loved it!! The meat was seasoned very well and I loved the onion and cheese pairing as well. The paratha was buttery and went so nicely with the rest of the ingredients. The masala fries were crisp and made a lovely pairing with the chutney. The spaghetti bolognese was also very tasty - the keema was nicely seasoned and I also enjoyed the cheesy garlic bread that comes with it. That being said, the bolognese didn't strike me as a particularly impressive or unique dish, though the flavors were excellent. The Chawanmushi was decent but it was a little different than I expected. It had a little bit more liquid at the top of the egg custard. The flavor was fine nothing overpowered and it was soft and had that gelatin mush to it. The carbonara udon pasta was creamy and tasted exactly how I imagined it would which was smooth and creamy with a little crispiness from the pieces of bacon. Just make sure you mix the egg into the pasta to give it that rich creaminess. The only dish I would say that was underwhelming was the crispy rice. I guess my expectation would be a little less rice and a balance of the crispy rice around it. It reminded me more so of a thick fried outer crust. However, I did like the fish and meat they used on top of the crispy rice. They all had their own flavors. The Handroll tasting is probably the most interesting dish I ordered. It seemed to have a good portion of fish and they try to keep the seaweed nice and crispy by leaving the plastic film over the seaweed. The flavors of the Handrolls were subtle. They did make a nice presentation. The salmon flight was pretty good you definitely could tell from the different cuts and fattiness of the salmon. My favorite was the aburi cheese the scorched cream cheese gave the salmon a melted coating of cheese and made it silky and smooth. The nigiri platter was almost like a flight of nigiri. In the order I ate them they got progressively better. My favorite was the scallop and tuna. The only roll I tried was the royal chutoro. The portion was a good ratio of rice to fish and the tobiko gave it a slight crunch. as service and parking. The parking costs $10 and it's only Valet. If you decide to park on the curb somewhere you will get a parking ticket (I saw a guy placing tickets on cars). The atmosphere was upscale and you can tell they try to emulate Japan with the decor(zen inspired). Overall, the fish was tasted fresh and the vibes were there. However, I do think everything was a bit overpriced compared to competitors.
