Was excited to try, heard it's one of the top go to's in HOU. The service was great, made reservations and were seated immediately. It's busy but not too loud so was able to hold a conversation easily. The problem for me was the food. So disappointing!! The greens were bland The chicken was well seasoned but dry The gumbo was heavy on hot sauce and salty The best part were the oysters we had both char boiled and fresh Felt like this place was more hype than anything. Don't think I'd give this another try

Came and left a happy camper for happy hour! Made resy ahead of time and got seated right away. Happy hour is till 6pm and select oysters are $1.50/each. Started with a dozen and we figured out that we liked the Matagorda Pearls the most, so ordered another dozen of those. They were pretty fresh and some large. Also got the Red Fish on half shell (pecan brown butter paired nicely with the fish and tender/flavorful) and the Grilled Octopus (had a little hint of spice from the jalapeños and cabbage was a nice little veggie side). For a drink, I got a classic margarita with reposado and tajin on the rim (strong, but delish). Parking - They have their own lot, but valet Overall good hh oyster deal!

I love this place. Their food is always on point. We have tried almost everything on the menu. They have seasonal items, which are always a treat. Here are some of the items I recommend: What we start with: Crispy shrimp tacos 10/10 - my favorite! I get these every time I go. They are outstanding. Deviled eggs - 9/10 - yummy Shrimp and Pork dumplings - 10/10 - these are spicy, but so good. Octopus - 9/10 - great! We share: Fried chicken - 10/10 - they have one of the best fried chicken. Get this. Blackened snapper collards - 7/10 - good, but was missing something. Not as flavorful as I would like. Pharmacy burger - 8/10 - really good, but it falls apart, don't remove the paper that it's wrapped in. Sides - get the fries! The smoked oyster mayo is amazing. Service can be a hit or miss, sometimes they are really good and sometimes they take forever. The ambiance is nice - it has a really cool, modern, woodsy feel to it.

My one regret from my time here is that I was so caught up in the experience that I didn't take more pictures! I hadn't heard of this restaurant until I came here with a group and I'm so glad I did! The interior is bustling and the space is used impressively, appearing full but not over crowded. The decor is charming and eclectic and classy. Our waiter was amazing and very attentive! His recommendations were spot on and he tailored them for our tastes. His recommendation for a sweeter cocktail was so nice and he even checked in afterwards. The oysters were so good and fresh, both the raw and cooked. I also loved the tacos! They were a bit spicy, with a crispy shell and luscious filling. Need to come again soon!

Went to try the fried chicken, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was hot, crispy, and juicy! I added hot sauce to it because why not! I tried the avocado sauce which had a cumin taste it. Not bad! I absolutely hate biscuits, and I LOVED theirs! They were delicious, and so was the jelly with it. I also ordered deviled eggs to start. There were 3 to the order, and I was hoping for more. They were topped with fried shrimp, so they were actually filling. Very good starter. Next time I will get there early for some happy hour oysters. Parking is a bit tough, so be patient with that. The restaurant and patio seating had a great vibe to it. I could definitely see it as a place to hang out for cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, a lady at the bar had a vibrant in color hibiscus Mezcal margarita. She said they are amazing! I ate at the bar and the bar tenders were prompt, courteous, and helped with recommendations. It's on the pricy side, but good value overall.

La Lucha is officially on my "take everyone who visits me" list. We came for happy hour and everything was so good! The drinks were great, strong, and well-balanced. But the real star for me? The deviled eggs topped with shrimp. So good. I would order those again without hesitation. They also had a few different types of oysters available, which I appreciated because it gave options depending on your preference. I tried them since they were very decently priced during happy hour. Oysters are not usually my favorite, but my friend absolutely loved them so if you are an oyster person, you will be happy here. My friend and I split the chicken platter with a side of biscuits, and it was perfect for sharing. I loved that you can choose between two different sauces for the chicken, which made it feel a little customizable. The chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the biscuits were incredible: fluffy, buttery, and completely worth it. We sat at the bar, which made the experience even better. The service was great, the staff was attentive, and the overall energy felt lively but comfortable. And they have purse hooks at the bar, which I personally love and deeply appreciate. I cannot wait to go back to La Lucha. It is a great happy hour spot, and I already plan to bring friends the next time they come to visit. Super good food, great drinks, great service.

The first time I came here, I'm sad to say was two years ago with some friends that lived in the neighborhood, and I'd yet to make it back since then. This place to me is all it was the first time and more and I need to make this a regular stop! We came out for dinner to celebrate a friend and made a reservation online. As I pulled into the parking lot, valet is available, which is nice when it's dark out to not have to look for parking. Up on entering La Lucha, I love love love how warm and cozy the place feels. I was greeted immediately with the two hosts, that had great smiles, and a delight. I let them know I was early and would grab a bevvy at the bar while I waited for the rest of my party. The bar was packed! Rightfully so! They have a great collection of all the things, this night I was in the mood for an old fashioned. I wasn't sure which whiskey I wanted to go with and one of the servers quickly made a suggestion and said I couldn't go wrong, and he was right! Went with a Bulleit for the selection. The bartender took time and care to make the bevvy, she was super sweet, and the barstaff really seemed to have a great flow all together. I saw a little flame come from a lighter and the orange, and as she set it in front of me, you could smell the citrus flavors of the beverage! It was smooth and light. A little sweeter than I am used to, but still great for a cold night! Right as I took my first sip, my party arrived!! We were seated not too long after they arrived in a nice cozy corner of the restaurant. I think I love most about this place is I didn't feel like we were in a restaurant. The noise level was quiet, the music was great, and I just felt like we were in our own little bubble! The great thing about La Lucha is the family style eating you can do. Everything can be shared, and everything we shared!! We started off ordering the Whole Fried Chicken because we knew it would take a while to cook. From there we ordered what felt like the whole menu! -Oysters -Chowder Fries -Dumplings -RedFish -Whole Fried Chicken w/extra biscuit -Brussels Everything was brought out as it was made, which is one thing I love most about this place. Nothing gets cold or hot while waiting for something else, and that means, there is always something new on the table every 5-7 minutes! Everything was wonderful. And lastly, the service! Chris, our server, was wonderful. Great at making recommendations, attentive, and gave us enough space to enjoy our meal and chat, while also being close enough to be attentive to our party. All in All 5 out of 5, will be coming back, and not waiting 2 years to do so!

I recently came here with friends to celebrate a special occasion and it has been on my list for a while (specifically for the fried chicken!) so I was super excited to come here. We arrived a little earlier than our reservation, so we waited at the bar and some in our group ordered cocktails to start the night. We were seated promptly at our reservation time and our server, Chris, was super friendly from the get-go. For some of us first-timers, we were quite inquisitive about various items on the menu, and Chris welcomed any and all questions. Great service! For food, our group put in our order the whole fried chicken first since this takes a bit longer to come out. We started out with the Shrimp & Pork Dumplings and the Blue Crab Chowder Fries. The dumplings were very flavorful and I liked the chili crisp that was spread throughout. The fries...how has anyone not thought of loading fries with clam chowder until this!? This was a fantastic combination and even though the chowder came on the side, we poured it all over the fries to enjoy. Next our order of raw oysters came out. These are gulf oysters, so not the best (or biggest) from others I've had, but the taste was on point. Since these don't come in a half-dozen or dozen, we ordered just enough so that each person in our group could try one of each oyster between two different types we agreed upon from the menu. The whole chicken came out, which was my favorite. It came out as about 12 pieces with 3 dipping sauces: a cilantro-based sauce, a mayonnaise-based sauce, and a spicy honey. My favorite of these was the cilantro-based one because of the contrast it provided to the fried chicken. The fried chicken itself was extremely crispy on the outside, very moist with plenty of juice on the inside. I was a bit skeptical at $45 for a chicken knowing that I can get a way better deal at Popeye's, but this definitely gives them a run of their money. Would totally order again. We also ordered the Redfish on the Half Shell and the brussels sprouts side. The redfish was very flavorful and I liked the pecan brown butter it was glazed with. The "half shell" is actually just half of its (cooked) skin. While the fish is bone-in and one side of the skin is still on, it was still easy to get the meat out of it. The brussels sprouts had good flavor to them but I just wish they were flash-fried for that extra crispiness. To drink, I got the You're Welcome, which is their version of a Manhattan. It was definitely boozy and the combination of bourbon and rye made for a good mixed drink. While the menu is somewhat small and I feel like we tried the highlights, I would come back to try other items like the Tuna Tostada, Vietnamese Sticky Wings, and the Pharmacy Burger. Chris gave us great service throughout the night and even came outside to offer taking a group picture for us.

Wow! I don't remember the last time I ate somewhere where EVERYTHING was amazing! The food, the drinks and the service were phenomenal! We tried all 6 of their oysters on the half shell. Every one was fresh and delicious. We also had the deviled eggs. Oh my gosh! The fried shrimp on top were battered and fried to perfection! (Even better than Liberty Kitchen's deviled eggs.) Of course, we HAD to try the fried chicken. We shared the 1/2 fried chicken (breast, thigh, drumstick and wing). It takes around 20 minutes because it's freshly made (thank goodness). It was the best fried chicken I've had in quite a while. We paired the chicken with the collard greens with kimchi. Perfection! What a great combo!

I've heard good things about La Lucha in the Houston Heights and went there for a friend's birthday. It was a packed house and we didn't have a reservation but we were able to be seated immediately at the bar. I have been dying to try their blue crab chowder fries but they unfortunately rotated it off of their menu less than a month before we came we ended up ordering the half fried chicken special, LA crawfish bread, shrimp and pork dumplings, and oysters. For the oysters, they have 5 special kinds and they come with cocktail sauce, pickle juice mignonette, and horseradish, as well as some crackers and hot sauce. They have an open window where you can watch a worker chuck oysters open. The oysters were decently sized, refreshing, and tasty. I then tried the shrimp and pork dumpling appetizer. It comes with a Szechuan sauce and is topped with coriander and fried onions. It's not anything crazy but I liked it for what it was. It wasn't spicy at all and I couldn't really taste a Szechuan taste. I would still eat these up though. The LA crawfish bread is a pressed po boy and comes with a parsley salad. I could kind of taste the crawfish in here but it was very faint. The half fried chicken came with biscuits, pickles, seasonal ham, and a side of sauce. We upgraded to get all 2 sauces: oyster mayo, honey sambal, and green harissa. I loved both the oyster mayo and green harissa. The mayo is more smoky and the harissa is almost like one of those cilantro based salsas. The chicken itself was above average but not crazyyy. It chicken skin has a nice crunch but some of it had too much coating. The meat itself was good but could be more juicier. The sauces are what makes it so good. Their biscuits here are also reallllly goood. I don't really care about the jam though so I just kept dipping it it in the other sauces. I would come back here for happy hour for their oysters. I want to try their grilled oysters next time. I will also be back when they bring back the blue crab chowder fries

La Lucha has been on my list for a while, and I'm glad I finally checked it out. I'd give it a solid 4/5- great service, a fun vibe, and decent food. Parking is valet only with tip requested. We had a reservation and tried calling to let them know we'd be a bit late, but the voicemail kept saying they were closed for a private event (possibly outdated). When we arrived, we did have a short wait. The restaurant was busy, which made sense since it was the last weekend before Christmas. Our waiter was friendly and walked us through the popular items since it was our first visit. We ordered the crispy shrimp tacos, blackened snapper collars, and the half chicken with biscuits. The tacos were GREAT- a perfect late-night bite, but not quite enough to be an entrée. I'd suggest moving them to the appetizer section or including a side. The snapper collars were a standout and loved across the table. The half chicken was good, but the sauces are what brought the flavor- especially the green harissa, which was FAB. The oyster aioli wasn't my favorite, but that's just personal preference.

I selected this place some time back because it was open late, and this made a great choice for a meet and greet with my today friend Jesus. Service was good. We visited when it was very empty, we seem like the only ones in the place, and even stayed till closed and sat in the parking lot and talked for hours. This was the perfect chilled late night spot. Great conversation, great food, great flavor

We laugh bc we didn't think grits would be the fav, out of all the amazing dishes. But the beef cheek underneath the silky grits... YUM! I'll be craving them *basque cheesecake was good but not the best we've had. But it's also hard to compete with all the other dishes we had

Overall very mediocre for the exorbitant price they charge…read more We've driven past this place so many times and were finally excited to try it. We love elevated tapas style restaurants so we had to see what it was all about! Unfortunately, the food just didn't wow me at all. It was fine, but fine doesn't cut it for this price. Food: - Duck Liver: 6/10 I LOVE pate so this one was extra disappointing. They pureed it so much that it lost all texture and was like a butter. If that was the only thing off, it would be fine. But the other flavors in there just didn't work for me. The sweetness and oiliness that they added were too overpowering that I could hardly taste the liver itself. The bread was great though. - Elk Tartare: 10/10 I'm not the biggest fan of tartare but this was the best tartare I've ever had and the best dish of the night! The sunflower cracker was amazing; it gave a nice toasty nutty flavor that contrasted with the yuzu underneath. I love all the different textures going on in this dish, which is why I like it better than other tartares which tend to be only chewy/slimy/wet. - Maitake: 8/10 Cooked really nicely. Perfectly crisp and flaky. Just a little too sour for me. - Okra: 7/10 The Gouda sauce was interesting but the okra itself was nothing special. It was nicely roasted and charred. - Pork chop: 6/10 As the main dish of the night, this was quite disappointing. No interesting flavors whatsoever. You can't really taste the chamomile dusting unless you lick it directly. The jowl that they spread on top didn't taste like anything distinct. In fact, I didn't like the texture of it because it was crunchy in a way that felt like I was crunching through little bits of tiny bone... - Basque cheesecake: 9/10 The dessert rounded out the evening nicely. Solid cheesecake. No complaints. Service: Honestly too "attentive" to the point that it was annoying and disruptive. They would interrupt us every 10 minutes it felt like. And the food came out pretty slowly.

Don't understand how you could give this place a bad review. It's phenomenal…read more We came for happy hour on a Saturday. Sat at the bar, I loved the bar! Super comfy and staff are friendly. Personally main dinning space looked dark so bar was ideal. We tried 4 different types of specialty cocktails, if you come at happy hour they are $3 off. These are craft cocktails, extremely extremely delicious. My favorites were the cocktail with beet and the cocktail with coconut and turmeric. Food was fantastic!! I loved how they served it in waves and not all at the same time. It felt more like a culinary experience. We had the cucumber salad which is a must. Followed by corn, which is good and totally unlike anything I've ever had before. Then the red fish which was sooooo good. Then the pork shoulder with coconut rice and together that was to die for. Plus the salt and vinegar potato's which I'd gladly have as a snack anytime. So so good!! Would come back honestly every week if I could!

I was really excited to eat here, but ultimately my experience did not live up to the restaurant's reputation. The first two courses on the tasting menu were fantastic (highly recommend the gulf shrimp aguachile and fried head cheese), but every other dish afterwards either lacked textural variety or well rounded flavor. The tamale course was overly soft to the point of mushiness, the carrots course was overwhelmingly spicy for our whole table, and we all agreed that most of the other courses were too salty. Service was friendly, but the courses were rolled out with VERY inconsistent timings (ranging anywhere between 5 minutes to over 25 minutes of waiting in between finishing one course and receiving the next). Our waiter also forgot to bring us our boxed leftovers even after I had reminded him for it while paying for the check. The experience was somewhat worthwhile but I left the restaurant wishing I could have treated our mothers to a smoother experience. - Ambiance: 4/5 - Food: 2/5 - Service: 3/5

Parking: Tons of parking here surprisingly, both a paved lot and a pebble lot. We had a reservation for 3 at 7PM and were promptly seated at a booth after a small line of people. Order-to-Appetizer: 15 Minutes Order-to-Entrees: 30 MInutes For three people, we ordered: Dairymaid's Cheese Board (4/5): Comes with four cheeses, five small pieces of sourdough, honey-spritzed grapes, green Granny Smith apples, and fava beans. I wish they gave us more bread with the cheeses and preserves. The four cheeses provided were slices of a five-year aged Cheddar, Oveja Anejo, Tomarashi, and Gruyere. I enjoyed the Tomarashi the most. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but very sharable and a great starter. Shady Acres Pizza with prosciutto (3.5/5): I really don't like getting thin crust pizza that isn't crispy, and unfortunately this was a soggy thin crust pizza. The toppings themselves were very flavorful, and the end parts were crispy enough. 5 Cheese Calzone with chicken (3.5/5): Whew, five cheeses makes for a salty calzone. The side marinara sauce provides a good balance. It's very filling. Chicken might have been a good addition because prosciutto might have made it too salty. It was larger than expected which was nice for sharability. Service was kind of iffy. They were pretty rude with not providing us utensils and seeming almost angry that we asked for some for the cheese board. They mixed up our order (we asked for chicken on the pizza and prosciutto on the calzone and they flipped it) and seemed almost apologetically serving us afterwards. Overall, would recommend as a relaxed date spot at a reasonable price. I paid via inKind and applied referral credit with no issues. Would come back with inKind credit, probably not at full price.
