One of my favorite spots in The Heights. The restaurant has a cozy feel with décor that makes you feel like you're relaxing in someone's living room. Everything we ordered came out incredibly fast, and the service was great from start to finish. The drinks were delicious and definitely didn't skimp on the alcohol. If you're coming with a more than 2 people, get the whole bird...it's absolutely worth it. The chicken is perfectly crispy, incredibly juicy, and comes with plenty to share. I wasn't impressed with the fried chicken or biscuits. The chicken wasnt seasoned or washed prior to frying, and biscuits were salty. The carpet over the floor in the main dining area feels unsanitary with people walking on it with shoes, the booth I sat at was dirty on the seat and floor. The waitress only returned to bring food and never saw her again, i had to ask the waitress at the table next to us for the check. Apparently, they have some of the best chicken & waffles in Houston, so of course we had to try it. We ordered the green chicken curry, half a dozen Parmesan oysters, and the chicken & waffles. Everything was good, but honestly, I wasn't super impressed. I thought it was comparable to what you'd get at other restaurants around Houston. Even though I've been here once before, I wanted to try it again and give the other menu items a try. I wasn't too impressed the first time, and this visit certainly confirmed my initial thoughts. For La Lucha's Happy Hour, you get a choice between 2 types of oysters ($1.50 each). These were great - do this on a weekday before 6pm and you should be able to grab a table without a reservation. Barely even after we started eating the oysters, the waitress was already asking if we wanted to order more, instead of allowing us to just enjoy our food without interruptions. The menus they gave at our table were inconsistent and had different menu items. I had to ask for clarification if the redfish was on the menu since it wasn't on two of the three menus given to us. So, quality control was a miss. Rest of the menu... is limited. Everything was so greasy, from the fried chicken, the redfish, and shrimp tacos. * Red fish with pecans - 6/10. The fish did not taste like it was seasoned with salt. It was well cooked, not dry at all, but it lacked any sort of seasoning aside from the butter and pecans on top. * Shrimp Tacos - 4/10. I think I prefer Taco Bell over this one. The shell was greasy, not crisp (felt like it was stale), and I was confused with the combination of American Cheese and shrimp. They also added hot sauce or spicy salsa in the tacos - so a warning if you can't handle spice (not mentioned on the menu). * Half Fried Chicken - 5/10. The chicken was moist. Been here once before and it was quite dry, so I'm glad this was cooked well. You get 2 thighs, a wing, and a drumstick (4pc). Again, there was a lack of any seasoning on the chicken itself & the exterior. Sadly, the sauce that we picked was not the best either - oyster mayo. It would've been nice to try the others, but the half order came with one sauce. The seasonal jam that was available was the peach jam. It went well with the biscuits (half order comes with 2 biscuits, any extra is $1.50). For my people who get cold in restaurants, I would recommend bringing a light jacket since they turn the A/C up. read more

Nice ambiance! The fried chicken was fried very well however did lack some flavor. We enjoyed the sauce variety that we were offered. Our favorite was the middle one I believe it was honey garlic. The biscuits were fluffy but we especially loved the homemade jam! I'm still thinking about that. Other items we got were deviled eggs, oysters, and snapper collars. This seems to be a favorite spot in Houston. We found this place on Yelp and wanted a nice dinner for just the two of us. First free valet made it so much easy to just get dropped at the front and enjoy our dinner. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us on the list. We waited at the bar and had a some drinks and enjoyed their local oysters. They were fresh and delicious. Diego our bartender was very helpful and friendly with great conversation. We made it to the dining area and was greeted with our very friend server who also helped us with our meal selections. We went with their specialty: fried chicken. It was very crispy yet the meat was very tender. We enjoyed the various dipping sauces which were all very different but very tasty. We also had some grilled shrimp and collard greens. Heard about this place on IG and I am so glad I stopped in. I narrowly missed happy hour but the pricing wasn't too bad at all. I sat at the bar but there is a full dining room and a gorgeous patio. The whole restaurant is really lush with a classic luxury coastal vibe. My bartender was super nice and since I was not crazy hungry, I kept it simple and got deviled eggs and the biscuits. The biscuits were AMAZING! 10/10 would recommend for sure. I liked the deviled eggs as well. This place is big on raw oysters so it does have a faint fishy smell but not overwhelming. Everything was very clean and especially the restrooms which I always check for. I do not remember the drink I had but it was super light and refreshing but a bit tart for my taste but got the job done. I enjoyed my girl dinner and every one that checked in on me was very nice. Came and left a happy camper for happy hour! Made resy ahead of time and got seated right away. Happy hour is till 6pm and select oysters are $1.50/each. Started with a dozen and we figured out that we liked the Matagorda Pearls the most, so ordered another dozen of those. They were pretty fresh and some large. Wow! I don't remember the last time I ate somewhere where EVERYTHING was amazing! The food, the drinks and the service were phenomenal! We tried all 6 of their oysters on the half shell. Every one was fresh and delicious. We also had the deviled eggs. Oh my gosh! The fried shrimp on top were battered and fried to perfection! (Even better than Liberty Kitchen's deviled eggs.) My first time at La Lucha was at the bar area. I really liked the vibe and moody lighting of the area. The restaurant is decorated in vintage artwork that was fun to look at. We started off with different types of oysters from the east coast. One of the best oysters I've tasted, very unique and briny flavors, but a little pricey! Then we got fried chicken which we requested with three sauces. The sauces were fun and all paired well with the chicken. The first time I came here, I'm sad to say was two years ago with some friends that lived in the neighborhood, and I'd yet to make it back since then. This place to me is all it was the first time and more and I need to make this a regular stop! We came out for dinner to celebrate a friend and made a reservation online. As I pulled into the parking lot, valet is available, which is nice when it's dark out to not have to look for parking. Up on entering La Lucha, I love love love how warm and cozy the place feels. I was greeted immediately with the two hosts, that had great smiles, and a delight. I let them know I was early and would grab a bevvy at the bar while I waited for the rest of my party. The bar was packed! Rightfully so! They have a great collection of all the things, this night I was in the mood for an old fashioned. I wasn't sure which whiskey I wanted to go with and one of the servers quickly made a suggestion and said I couldn't go wrong, and he was right! Went with a Bulleit for the selection. The bartender took time and care to make the bevvy, she was super sweet, and the barstaff really seemed to have a great flow all together. I saw a little flame come from a lighter and the orange, and as she set it in front of me, you could smell the citrus flavors of the beverage! It was smooth and light. A little sweeter than I am used to, but still great for a cold night! Right as I took my first sip, my party arrived!! We were seated not too long after they arrived in a nice cozy corner of the restaurant. I think I love most about this place is I didn't feel like we were in a restaurant. The noise level was quiet, the music was great, and I just felt like we were in our own little bubble! The great thing about La Lucha is the family style eating you can do. Everything can be shared, and everything we shared!! We started off ordering the Whole Fried Chicken because we knew it would take a while to cook. From there we ordered what felt like the whole menu! -Oysters -Chowder Fries -Dumplings -RedFish -Whole Fried Chicken w/extra biscuit -Brussels Everything was brought out as it was made, which is one thing I love most about this place. My one regret from my time here is that I was so caught up in the experience that I didn't take more pictures! I hadn't heard of this restaurant until I came here with a group and I'm so glad I did! The interior is bustling and the space is used impressively, appearing full but not over crowded. The decor is charming and eclectic and classy. Our waiter was amazing and very attentive! His recommendations were spot on and he tailored them for our tastes. His recommendation for a sweeter cocktail was so nice and he even checked in afterwards. Went to try the fried chicken, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was hot, crispy, and juicy! I added hot sauce to it because why not! I tried the avocado sauce which had a cumin taste it. I recently came here with friends to celebrate a special occasion and it has been on my list for a while (specifically for the fried chicken!) so I was super excited to come here. We arrived a little earlier than our reservation, so we waited at the bar and some in our group ordered cocktails to start the night. We were seated promptly at our reservation time and our server, Chris, was super friendly from the get-go. For some of us first-timers, we were quite inquisitive about various items on the menu, and Chris welcomed any and all questions. Great service! For food, our group put in our order the whole fried chicken first since this takes a bit longer to come out. We started out with the Shrimp & Pork Dumplings and the Blue Crab Chowder Fries. The dumplings were very flavorful and I liked the chili crisp that was spread throughout. The fries...how has anyone not thought of loading fries with clam chowder until this!? This was a fantastic combination and even though the chowder came on the side, we poured it all over the fries to enjoy. Next our order of raw oysters came out. These are gulf oysters, so not the best (or biggest) from others I've had, but the taste was on point. Since these don't come in a half-dozen or dozen, we ordered just enough so that each person in our group could try one of each oyster between two different types we agreed upon from the menu. The whole chicken came out, which was my favorite. It came out as about 12 pieces with 3 dipping sauces: a cilantro-based sauce, a mayonnaise-based sauce, and a spicy honey. My favorite of these was the cilantro-based one because of the contrast it provided to the fried chicken. The fried chicken itself was extremely crispy on the outside, very moist with plenty of juice on the inside. I was a bit skeptical at $45 for a chicken knowing that I can get a way better deal at Popeye's, but this definitely gives them a run of their money. Would totally order again. We also ordered the Redfish on the Half Shell and the brussels sprouts side. The redfish was very flavorful and I liked the pecan brown butter it was glazed with. The "half shell" is actually just half of its (cooked) skin. While the fish is bone-in and one side of the skin is still on, it was still easy to get the meat out of it. The brussels sprouts had good flavor to them but I just wish they were flash-fried for that extra crispiness. To drink, I got the You're Welcome, which is their version of a Manhattan. It was definitely boozy and the combination of bourbon and rye made for a good mixed drink. While the menu is somewhat small and I feel like we tried the highlights, I would come back to try other items like the Tuna Tostada, Vietnamese Sticky Wings, and the Pharmacy Burger. The deviled eggs topped with shrimp. So good. I would order those again without hesitation. I tried them since they were very decently priced during happy hour. Oysters are not usually my favorite, but my friend absolutely loved them so if you are an oyster person, you will be happy here. Along with the food, the outdoor patio is great area and the oak trees and seating really add to it. The inside has both the bar area and the general seating for the masses. What I also love about this place is it is good value for the money. On this occasion a friend of mine recently moved into town and it was his birthday and thought he and others would really appreciate the menu and I wasn't disappointed. They loved it! I would have like to order everything on the menu but we weren't so hungry that all of us could eat that much food, but we did land on getting the whole fried chicken, that served with biscuits, pickles, sauce and seasonal jam. When we arrived, we did have a short wait. The restaurant was busy, which made sense since it was the last weekend before Christmas. Our waiter was friendly and walked us through the popular items since it was our first visit. We ordered the crispy shrimp tacos, blackened snapper collars, and the half chicken with biscuits. The tacos were GREAT- a perfect late-night bite, but not quite enough to be an entrée. I'd suggest moving them to the appetizer section or including a side. This is a popular spot in Houston and I can definitely understand why! I love that they have a simple menu, which I imagine allows them to perfect every dish. Everything I had was amazing with unique flavor profiles, so all the food felt exclusive to the restaurant. The service was absolutely impeccable; my waitress name was Candace, and she was a pure joy the entire visit. This was my first time at La Lucha, but it most certainly will not be my last! The family-friendly, yet still sleek, eatery was perfect for a Sunday brunch . I am happy that my friends and I had reservations because it was extremely busy. Thankfully, La Lucha does not put seating time limits so we were able to enjoy our book swap and take our time deciding which appetizer cocktails and entrées to order. Ultimately, I decided to order an espresso martini, the chicken and pork dumplings that had a super spicy and flavorful Szechuan sauce, and the half a bird whose skin was crispy, crunchy, and packed with so much flavor! I was shocked by how much chicken comprised a half an order, but at a $24 price point that seem to be an appropriate portion size. The biscuits that accompany the chicken would put Popeyes to shame and the jam that it was served with offer just the perfect amount of sweetness. I'd ordered a side of collard greens and they tasted like Thanksgiving. Our waitress, Taylor, was super attentive, and patient as we decided what to order; and the bus boy, Mr. Martin, was a joy to talk to as we bonded over our shared love of books. He even gave some recommendations for books we should listen to on Libby. The fact that La Lucha has tip-based valet parking made this an even more enjoyable visit because parking is extremely scarce in the area. I cannot wait to return to try some of their other entrée options. It's unfortunate that they don't have an extensive happy hour menu as their cocktail menu is quite lengthy and seems attentively curated. La Lucha was on my list of restaurants to try and I finally made it there. Had the fried chicken which was ok. Biscuits with the jam were amazing and French fries were nice and crispy. My friends had the deviled eggs which were really good! Burger was ok, the bread was kinda thin so it got soggy fast. Other friend had the oysters which she enjoyed. Just keep in mind none of the food come with sides and you have to order those separately. We sat at the bar as we did not have reservations. Service was good and the food came out fairly quickly. Wanted to try the snapper but they had ran out of that, and they had ran out of straws as well which was weird. Overall ok experience. Restaurant itself has nice open seating. Came for the fried chicken, stayed for the feast! La Lucha has been long on my to go list, and I was finally able to stop by with my friends to test out their menu. First, all the seafood are really fresh, from the oysters to Grilled Shrimp. My two must get is the deviled eggs, which has a fried shrimp on each egg that offers a nice crunch and a blast of flavor. And my absolute favorite is the Snapper collars, which is STUFFED with the most juicy and fatty meat imaginable. Every corner you turn, you will find more meat, so be ready to get all hands on with this dish. The sticky wings are also super flavorful, with the fish sauce offering an unique twist to the sweetness of the other seasonings. And of course, you cannot come here and not try the fried chicken with the biscuits. The biscuits are fresh, soft and buttery and goes great with the jam that it comes with. And pro tip, get all three dipping sauces with the fried chicken so you can mix them as you like and have a little bit of everything. Our server is amazing and is super accommodating for large tables, and the restaurant will have indoor and outdoors seating for when the weather gets nicer in Houston. read more

First I would like to warn that parking here is valet only. Finding the door was a little weird as it blends in but it is literally right at the corner as you walk up from the parking. Now the food was a mixture of delicious and just ok. The oysters and tuna tostada were great. I enjoyed the different options for oysters and the tuna tostada had a wonderful flavor and just melted in your mouth. The blue crab chowder fries sounded amazing at first but as we began eating it there were two things that my friend and I agreed on. 1. It's too salty, which all the seasoning on the fries and whatever is in the cheese it's just too much. 2. The cheesy crab mixture just doesn't have a wow flavor, it's not bad but just not something to brag about. The service was decent, they didn't consistently check-in with us and would have to wait a bit for refills and our check, despite it being early and before the dinner rush. Overall was a good try and may come back to try other dishes. Definitely a good atmosphere for business dinners. read more
