Been going to Crisp a bit more often these days and enjoyed what I got so much it's pretty much my standard entree selection--the salmon dinner served on a bed of quinoa. Everyone I've been with lately has enjoyed their food there. Didn't get the server we wanted due to availability for our party's size and the one we got was a bit lifeless and only asked two people at the table if they wanted a drink then took off so I was a bit miffed at having to wait until their drink was delivered so I could request a glass of wine but other than that service was good. The setting is great and it works for couples, families and large groups and they have a great back patio which is nice when weather is nice. read more

Went to Crisp for Restaurant Week and really enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious, and the restaurant has a spacious layout with both indoor and outdoor seating. There's a large bar area that's perfect for groups, they have a private room for parties, they offer happy hour, and a full bar with plenty of drinks and beer options. The service was friendly, personable, and attentive, making for a great dining experience. Although they give you a large amount of food some bites were a tad bit salty. Nut allergy friendly: No issues with what we ordered after letting the waiter know. They initially removed the fava beans from our cheese board but they gave it to us on the side after we asked about it. Fava beans aren't nuts! Parking: Tons of parking here surprisingly, both a paved lot and a pebble lot. We had a reservation for 3 at 7PM and were promptly seated at a booth after a small line of people. Order-to-Appetizer: 15 Minutes Order-to-Entrees: 30 MInutes For three people, we ordered: Dairymaid's Cheese Board (4/5): Comes with four cheeses, five small pieces of sourdough, honey-spritzed grapes, green Granny Smith apples, and fava beans. I wish they gave us more bread with the cheeses and preserves. The four cheeses provided were slices of a five-year aged Cheddar, Oveja Anejo, Tomarashi, and Gruyere. I enjoyed the Tomarashi the most. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but very sharable and a great starter. Shady Acres Pizza with prosciutto (3.5/5): I really don't like getting thin crust pizza that isn't crispy, and unfortunately this was a soggy thin crust pizza. The toppings themselves were very flavorful, and the end parts were crispy enough. 5 Cheese Calzone with chicken (3.5/5): Whew, five cheeses makes for a salty calzone. The side marinara sauce provides a good balance. It's very filling. Chicken might have been a good addition because prosciutto might have made it too salty. It was larger than expected which was nice for sharability. Service was kind of iffy. They were pretty rude with not providing us utensils and seeming almost angry that we asked for some for the cheese board. They mixed up our order (we asked for chicken on the pizza and prosciutto on the calzone and they flipped it) and seemed almost apologetically serving us afterwards. Overall, would recommend as a relaxed date spot at a reasonable price. I paid via inKind and applied referral credit with no issues. I've been before and it was good enough to go back. But I was disappointed this time. The calamari was mostly fried dough; the calamari itself was tiny and frozen I think AND some were wrapped in jalapeño! The pizza was alright, but not great, or certainly not as good as it used to be. The crust under the toppings was a bit chewy. And for some reason the room was quite dark and it seemed to get even darker by the time we left. I get that everything is expensive these days, but I would prefer to pay more than get smaller portions and lower quality food. We won't be returning. read more

The decor lacked charm and warmth. I did not see the outside since the hostess kindly informed us that there were several children outside. But the pictures of the outside looked lovely. Service -3 out of 5 The server quickly greeted us but she was a little off. She stated her name but was looking away from us when she did it. She'd bring our food and then disappear for a while. The burrata pizza was also okay but came out lukewarm along with the pasta. This also contributed to the overall meh feeling with this food. Overall this place shows promise but it missed the bar. Lovely spot in the heights! I love the vibe here, the patio, the private room for large parties. Pizza however is just 'okay'. My party and I came here and found the pizza to be fairly mediocre. We had the Taleggio Florentine, Shady Acres, The Caliano, and the San Fran. Out of the four, we found the Caliano to be the best with the grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, smoked gouda all complimenting each other with honey siracha and home made ranch. Truffle fries and tipsy calamari were great shareables for us and we thoroughly enjoyed those. Our server was extremely friendly and very patient with our large group that walked in. Visited Crisp during Houston restaurant week and I really enjoyed my experience. As soon as I entered, I was greeted. It's spacious with a patio, a private room and a wine cellar. I tried a beer flight, the crab bisque, and the pro figgy goat "wood fired pizza". The beer was just enough without being overwhelming! The crab bisque was a little salty for me but very flavorful. Went last night, ordered two chicken D'Angelo. The chicken was overcooked, we had a hard time cutting the chicken. We told the waiter and he didn't offer to remake or replace with something else. Our drinks were not refilled, just water and iced tea. We asked what they had for a birthday dessert and the waiter told us that he could give us a free scoop of vanilla ice cream and we replied no, we want to see a dessert menu. It was the first time I had ordered something other than pizza or salad. The chicken was so dry that it was curled up on the edges. If you look closely you can see the chicken was dried to the point that is was stringy. It was the texture of a dog chew and I considered bringing it home for my dog had it not had red sauce on it. They were out of some of the ingredients for my sister's drink so she had to get another option. She didn't really enjoy the second drink but did not want to bother the waitress. We came in a big group of 4 families on Sunday around 11 am for brunch. The parking lot was spacious. It was my first time and we came for a Bingo event. The server was super awesome and patient with all the kids. Thankfully there is an outdoor patio area where the kids burned off some energy while waiting for the food. We got the kids cheese pizza which was enjoyed by all of them. I got the Brewer's Breakfast with avocado instead of sausage and scrambled eggs. It was really delicious & finished the whole entree. Holy WOW!!!!! Crisp is where it's at! We came here in a whim for my wife's birthday because her usual fav was closed on a Monday. I'm so thankful we did! Our server, Devin (hope I spelled it correctly) took time out to give us his personal recommendations for each section of the menu. And I just say, he was ON POINT! My wife and grandmother had lemon drops, while I had their old fashion. The bartender knows his stuff btw! We started off with a great recommendation of the BAKED TEXAS GOAT CHEESE & MARINARA w/Drunken Garlic Flatbread and it was freakin AMAZING! Holy cow! Next, my wife and I both had the recommended CHICKEN D' ANGELO! And it was great! Super crispy and WELL SEASONED! Wife and I took some friends for their first visit to Crisp. As always Crisp and the staff never disappoint. Our waiter was great and very tentative through the evening. We were there well after closing and no rush was put on us. Our waiter and the staff were more than accommodating and very patient with us. Date night on a Friday in mid July in the week of hurricane Beryl. We made a reservation on OpenTable and were seated promptly when we arrived. The location is welcoming with the restaurant located in a nice neighborhood near Ella blvd and the interior is inviting with smells of garlic, mozzerella, and wine. The restaurant was somewhat packed although a couple tables remained open when we arrived. As a modern italian restaurant, there's an extensive wine list and plenty of pizza, pastas, salads, and entrees available. Wines available by the glass are aplenty with a few italian wines available. For appetizers, the arancini is a great option with the orange/thyme vinagrette that gives a sweet citrus flavor to the saffron herbs. I also enjoyed the Caesar salad which is garnished with a toasted parmesan and anchovie on top. For entrees, my girlfriend ordered the eggplant fetuccini and I ordered the shady acres pizza with chicken. The pasta was tender although a bit watery with the sauce; my girlfriend nonetheless enjoyed it. The pizza had good flavor with the mushrooms and veggies with the sauce. The texture was a bit chewy but I'd order the pizza again. Service-wise, there were times were we had to flag our server down for things including silverware and plates for the appetizer and to share the pizza. They were attentive when we sat down upon entering but after our first drink order, it seemed they forgot about us. I also didn't get my second glass of wine (ordered after finishing the appetizer) until after we were nearly done with our food. Not sure if they are short-staffed or if it was the effects of Beryl but service didn't have the urgency we were hoping for. It's a shame because the food is really solid. I'd be open to trying this place again with other pizzas and some of their pastas. And definitely need to try the happy hour. read more

A friend and I decided to take our pups for a walk and stop at Crisp while out and about. I love that they have a dog friendly patio and a nice outdoor seating area. Once seated, the server brought out a water bowl for each of the dogs and had it filled with ice water which my pup loved. The server then quickly came over to get our drink order. My friend ordered the espresso martini and I said I'd try hers before selecting what I wanted. It took forever for it to come, but eventually it was brought out. Unfortunately, neither of us liked the espresso martini as it tasted like a straight shot of espresso. We sat outside and server was nice but the service was really slow. Mid meal my 4yo started crying saying that he bit on something hard in his pizza. The server we spoke to was appropriately appalled and brought out the manager, and he took a look and just said "I don't think that's glass it looks like plastic." No apology, I'm not sure if he just a jerk or if he thought we planted it there or something? We had to ask for a new kids pizza bc didn't trust there wasn't more glass in this one. And mind you, there were like two bites from the whole pizza, he hadn't eaten even a full slice of it. Also it definitely looked like a chunk of a broken pint glass, not plastic. New pizza came, rest of night pretty uneventful. They comp'd the $10 kids pizza. For my dinner I got a pasta with gluten free pasta and was assured it was gluten free dish (I have celiac with severe gluten reaction). Got home that night, not feeling well, shortly after very sick. Definitely something about my dish was not gluten-free. Now reading some other reviews seems multiple people have gotten gluten contamination here. So I would not recommend eating here if you have Celiac or gluten allergy. All in all, I don't think any of our group will be coming back. I get that accidents happen, but managerial response to the glass in food without even a thank you seemed really inappropriate. After 5 yrs not much has changed. The pizza is okay. Nothing that makes you want to travel across town to get it. I mean they can't even cut the pizza fully so you have rip and tear it apart. Menus are poorly labeled. The lunch menu is only Monday through Friday so that changed the ordering process. The Sunday special for drinks even though reasonably priced at 7-8 dollars just not very well executed. Overall it's left wanting. Great place to meet with friends for a drink. On my Houston Pizza quest I found a restaurant who has the new top spot. That would be Crisp!!! If a pizza place or restaurant has a dang good wine, they are already winning in my book. The pizza dough is hand tossed with a slight bit of saltiness and I have not even begin to describe the "Sauce" yet and already I am hooked.... The star of the evening was the Earl & Marie's Classic Margherita with and addition of Prosciutto accompanied by a glass of Tinto Negro - Malbec - Mendoza, Argentina. This is detailed as I can describe for the meal because the food, service and ambience was so astounding that we were lost in the moment of culinary bliss. Catch me next go around. Wow oh wow what a gem found in Houston! We were in town for spring break and our group was hungry for Italian and pizza. I fired up the ole trusty Yelp app to help me find out next meal. We were fortunate enough to find Crisp. We were a decent size party of 4 adults and 4 kids. Our waiter Alex took our order and provided us some recommendations. Everything came out good for the most part except for my wife's salad where she asked for shrimp instead of chicken. Alex promptly had a new order put in to correct the issue. Then the manager came over and chatted with us. He was a great manager and bantered with us well. And compared us toe desserts which were very tasty. Overall the atmosphere was nice and quaint for a neighborhood Italian restaurant. The service was great and the food was excellent. Order any pizza, calzone or calamari and you will super enjoy it. We went to Crisp tonight for my wife's birthday. We have been there many times over the years and it is usually very good. We like to sit at the bar and Cole was our bartender. He did a great job.
