My friend and I had the opportunity to dine at Mutiny in the Heights on their final night. We were able to snag a last minute reservation on the patio. When my friend made the reservation, she received an email encouraging customers to visit the tasting room before or after dinner. We showed up an hour early to visit the tasting room, however the host had no idea what we were talking about. Turns out they weren't doing tastings. Luckily, we didn't have to wait to be seated. We initially had a table that was not near a heat lamp, however an employee came over and let us know that we could switch to a table near the heat lamp which was appreciated because it was chilly. Our server was Laura. She was nice and funny. They had $25 flight specials. I went with the Sayanara Flight which had white wines. I really enjoyed them and they weren't too sweet. My friend had an NA wine which she enjoyed. We ordered the Truffle Fries and Meatballs. Both dishes were tasty. I enjoyed the aioli that came with the fries. They had discounted wines for purchase. Not all bottles were 50% off, however the gentleman that we spoke to went ahead and gave me a 50% discount on both the rosé and pinot grigio that I purchased which was so appreciated! It seems like there are quite a few businesses around town that are closing. I'm sad to see Mutiny go, but I'm glad my friend and I got to dine in on their final night. read more

"Closing time, you don't have to go home But you can't stay here." - Semisonic I have lived in the loop for 5 years now, and I'm sad to say that I finally tried Mutiny on their last day. I often pass by it going through a shortcut to I-45 and sometimes going home around the area. It's literally a 5-minute drive. I booked reservations Friday since I saw they opened up the 31st on Resy. It wasn't earlier in the week, but I knew it was the last day, and my friend and I really wanted to try. I'm glad we made reservations because they were at capacity (150 person capacity) and weren't taking any walk ins. We got there early cause Resy suggested checking out the Tasting Room before or after the reservation time. We got there about an hour earlier, and the host said he didn't know anything about that except that the Tasting Room area was used for events. Interesting. We were seated earlier on the patio on this freezing evening. At first, we were at a table that didn't have a heat lamp, but when one freed up, they were so nice to suggest that we move closer to the heat lamp since they saw us shivering. Lol. We were thankful for that. I wore fleece lined jeans and brought gloves and a beanie anyway having been in the below freezing winter in London. Laura was our server and was kind and funny. So was this other guy who checked in every now and then. He made light of their last day situation. The dining area is so beautiful inside. I love the limestone-looking interior and chandeliers. Reminds me of Fredericksburg or something. They had many large groups and a few small groups of friends or couples dining on this last day. Way to go out with a bang. A lot of the wines were selling out or already sold out around 7-8 pm. We tried the truffle fries and Sicilian meatballs with focaccia bread. I like the thick cut of the fries and the black garlic aioli. It reminded me of yuca fries. The Sicilian meatballs were a bit small, peppery and salty. I wish the marinara was a little more tart. The focaccia helped cut through the saltiness. I had 2 glasses of the NA Sauvignon blanc which was light and a little tart. They ran out of the NA red blend. My friend ordered Sayonara, one of their farewell flights which were aptly named for "goodbye". It was a great night on the patio but chilly. My friend purchased a rosé and a Pinot Grigio as part of their Last Sail wines. Actually, the Pinot Grigio wasn't part of the sale, and he was going to take off 20%, but he also made it 50% off. I used to live down the street from Mutiny so I was super excited to finally get the chance to experience it. The building and interior decor is really beautiful (it also looks beautiful at night when you drive by). Our server Trevor was super kind and energetic which I really appreciated throughout our experience. We ordered the Rose Flight and it was really gracious pours of each of the 3 flavors. We also ordered the green Thai curry mussels, meatballs and the pepperoni pizza. We also ended up ordering 2 glasses of the only rose that wasn't included in the flight just to try. The food came out quickly, the wines also came out quickly and the service was amazing. It was quite loud inside due to several events going on but it didn't detract from the experience at all. The ambiance takes to a place far from downtown Houston. The aesthetics give chic and upscale. The service was 10 out of 10 from my arrival to my departure. They offer free valet because parking is limited. I found this gem while looking for a place to work, grab a bite and have a glass of wine while waiting in my daughter to finish an appointment. I was able to sit at the bar, connect my laptop to WiFi and work away. Dallas, the bar tender was friendly and knowledgeable. He respected my space while I worked but made sure I didn't feel overlooked. I had a glass of Chenin Blanc suggested by Dallas (I can't drink red wine) and enjoyed a burger with fries. Tasty! Tasty! Tasty! The whole experience was great and I will definitely be back to just enjoy. This restaurant is great for a date night, me-time and after work enjoyment with a friend. My girlfriend and I were blessed to make one last visit the night before their last day of before closing for good. The staff's energy was exactly the same as it always is, positive and energetic. You get the option to put together your own charcuterie board and that is adult fun! We had the burger and I have to admit, it's one of the best burgers I've ever had! Parking is crazy but Valet is free (please tip). Restaurant is super cute. I like that they have an outside patio. It's a little warm for me to sit out there right now and there were people letting there unruly kids run around so....I really don't care for the plastic chairs, especially after sitting for two hours but it is what it is. The food however, was delicious. We decided to share a bottle of wine and order off of the restaurant week menu since it was our first time here and I'm glad we did. Everything we had was very good. My sister, niece and friends came here for Spanish Palella. We had reservations for dinner and were immediately welcomed and sat us at our table of 5. They had a live singer with a guitar and people sat outside enjoying the weather and ambiance. Staff would stop by and chat with the table about wine pairings and specialty drinks. All of the food was amazing but the lamb shoulder A1. It had a smooth cut like butter, and it was tender with lots of flavor. As amazing as the lamb shoulder was, the sweet biscuit with strawberry ice cream was the best part of the entire meal. The biscuits was sweet and almost salty and paired very well with the ice cream. I expected tasteful, pleasant, timely experience - this was not that. In fact, if you want any of those things then I suggest you check out other wine bars. We were guided to our "table "on the patio. It was a very tall coffee table, with a taller bench, and then two ridiculously short chairs. Whoever chose the furniture didn't consider their patrons comfortability. Later on in the evening we observed several patrons having a difficult time bending down from the bench to pick up their plates of food and seat the plate on their lap to eat. After making a request we moved to one of the proper dining tables on the patio. All four of us ordered from the HRW menu for their $39 options. We placed an order for our full course at one time. The waiter told us "the appetizers are usually ready very quickly " - I wish that was the case. We waited so long for our appetizers that the managers came out and apologized to us. The second manager asked what we would like in compensation for waiting about 30 minutes for appetizers with no communication, we told him "whatever you would like to bring us we are happy to receive." Eventually they came with our appetizers, they were OK. A friend and I ordered a bottle of wine but only she and I split it. The entrées were all lackluster. I expected this to be a flavorful and curated dining experience but it just seems like they took cuts of meat, roasted them in plain butter, and put them on a plate. Two of us got the steak, one got the pasta, and another got the fish - none of us liked our food. The entrées were flavorless, but albeit they did not taste putrid. I steered away from a portion of my dish because the jus from my steak make contact with our waiters hand, and he seemed nice but I didn't want to consume that... All of us found the desserts to be unpleasant . The chocolate cake was dry but somehow accompanied with a mousse. The crème brûlée was very liquidy on the inside and the entire top was not caramelized, only the center portion. My buttermilk pie was extremely fluffy and squishy unlike a custard and more similar in feel to a hydrogenated whipped cream . The pie was paired with a sorbet which was an interesting and unpleasant flavor combination. My sorbet was partially melted by the time I got it. After finishing our desserts we had to wait roughly 20 minutes to get the check. It was at this point that we realized not only did the manager not bring anything out to compensate for us waiting so long for our appetizers, but there was not a discount on our bill either. After sending the check back and asking to speak to the manager he did give us a $12 discount on the bottle of wine, the bottle of wine that half the table didn't even touch. He claimed that he originally had planned to send out some hush puppies until he "realized that they were out of them". This interaction struck a nerve, because hush puppies are not even on their menu right now and he acknowledged they are serving a very condensed menu, the same condensed menu that they have been serving for the last 20 days - so how did he not know that they weren't making any hush puppies? I'll never know. Even if the kitchen had no hush puppies, his lack of communication felt like a signal of the overall team's lack of intentionality to curate a dining experience worth the $260. The best items that were brought out to our table were the bottle of wine in the charcuterie board, which makes sense because Mutiny didn't have to make those... When we gave the manager feedback, he assured us that the desserts were made fresh daily by chefs who come in earlier in the day. They should probably just stick to buying their desserts from a restaurant supply. We were told that hopefully our next dining experience could be more pleasant - I think it's safe we are not going back to Mutiny. Their staff had such a hard time managing a condensed menu and still providing a pleasant dining experience. 3 hours of our lives and $40 a person wasted on flavorless food. read more

Been wanting to visit this winery for sometime. Finally did! It was about 10 minutes away from me from the Heights. There is a parking lot but pretty small to accommodate a lot. However, there is street parking adjacent to the place and the spots are separated by orange cones. The place itself deliciously smells wine all over. The ambiance is classy and sophisticated and perfect for business meetings, dates, or tete a tete. They have a cast selection of wines and little bites which was decadently prepared and was tasty!!! I warned my coworker not to get it but he said he didn't care about wine. Well, when he got it he had to tell the manager it may have been a bad batch, that's how bad it was. The manager pulled me aside and tried to help me figure out what kind of wine I would like to replace it which was nice. But, she got after my coworker so that was odd. We both complained of the same thing and were both treated very differently. I arrived at this location for my birthday and it was everything I could imagine. The restaurant is dainty. It gives off so much aesthetic it's honestly a place to fall in love with soon as you arrive. I love how the valet is complementary and the valet driver is super sweet. While they do have valet, I found street parking close by. Mutiny is in a residential neighborhood. What first stood out to me is the ambiance. The interior is sophisticated and exudes elegance. The patio is similarly impressive. We ended up sitting outside as the weather was perfect. Given the ambiance, Mutiny is a great date spot. Another thing that stood out to me was the service. Attentive, friendly, and hospitable---it was the best service I've experienced in quite a while. I had two glasses of wine and the scallops. The presentation here is as elegant as the decor and the food tasted just as good as it looks. It's not cheap though so you are paying for the quality. Kagan Cellars "k3" Cabernet Sauvignon Release Party! . Great evening and event. This winery is a little oasis in the bustling city, it's located right off I-10 and Studemont . I've visited several times and every time the wine and service is on point. The wine tastings are reasonably priced and the pours are generous. This evening's visit I attended the release party for Kagan Cellars K3 Cabernet Sauvignon. It was a steal of a desk, $25 for a glass of K3 Cabernet Sauvignon, and a nice buffet of appetizers. Appetizers included empanadas, variety of fruit, cheeses and meat, as well as truffles. The dark truffles paired with the wine was delightful. The wine was very smooth, no bite or after taste.
