As it turns out, this was my second visit to Crisp, the first visit being undocumented but very much during HRW. Still being full from my previous HRW's engagement, I lived vicariously through my foodie-friends who partook in the fabulous and delightful menu offerings. We had the pork belly, the Petite short rib, garlic bread, and the grilled cheese. All were excellent options, but the most amazing choice was the wine-soaked garlic bread. I've come here quite a bit now for their lunch special, and I've quite enjoyed myself here. At first you may be thrown off by the environment, food, and decoration but I think it is very representative of the area it's in: the heights! I came here on a Thursday night with my friend. Although closing was within an hour we were still served and treat well by the staff. It's a nice spot in the area, lots of wine and craft beer to choose from. There's a bar, large patio, plenty of indoor seating. I decided to have a burger and we also had meatballs as an appetizer. The meatballs were moist, gigantic, and seasoned well. My burger did take a little longer than expected but they were making it fresh. It came out hot and delicious, as were the fries. I enjoyed my meal and we didn't feel rushed to finish even though it was close to closing. The service was great and friendly. I will definitely return to have another meal there. I've visited Crisp a few times now (for lunch, happy hour and dinner) and enjoyed it each time. The service is always good and friendly. I appreciate that the staff is personable and strike up conversation! The food has always been flavorful (the crab bisque is a must try)! This go round we had the il granchio trio, baked Texas goat cheese & marinara, and pasta bianco with salmon. All solid options! My only gripe was the death by brownie dessert was a bit hard (but I'm willing to try it out again to see if it was just an off day). Cute eatery near the Heights has plenty of parking should you find yourself going northwest of the city. Plenty of tables inside and outside on patio. They do have a room for private parties. Went with some friends and their young kids. One of the kids started crying when he took a bite of his cheese pizza and there was a small piece of glass in it. The manager came over, looked at it, said it looked like a hard piece of plastic, asked if we wanted another pizza and walked away. No apology. They were only comped the $10 pizza. The crab bisque was good, had a hush puppy in the bottom of it. My only complaint was the portion, couldnt have been more than 5oz. The brownies were TERRIBLE. " Garlic Butter Breakfast Melt 3/5 - The hash brown was unique - it was basically a cheese stuffed mashed potato that was fried. Very interesting texture, but I didn't dig it. The save for this sandwich was the garlic butter (I believe that's what they used) bc it was spread evenly throughout the sandwich. " Drunken Meatball Sandwich 4.5/5 - LOVE THE FLAVORING! Definitely heavy. There was not enough tomato sauce for this sandwich making it a bit dry. I had to use some of my friend's tomato soup to make it perfect. The fries were crispy but rather bland. " Fried Chicken and Waffle Sandwich 4/5 - The slightly salty waffle had a crispy exterior and fluffy interior. The chicken itself was a little dry but crispy, but when you add the syrup it made up for it. Again, the fries were crispy but rather bland. Stopped by for dinner for two because we saw how this place has pretty good reviews, and the menu seemed appetizing. The interior looked nice, and the parking was packed for a Wednesday evening. Our server was really nice and super attentive, but that was one of the very few good things here about this dinner. We started off with the blue crab bisque which came with a hushpuppy, and the hushpuppy was the only thing decent about this soup. As soon as the spoon touched our mouths, we were hit with salt. The soup was creamy but so salty that it was not very edible, and the rest of the dishes we ordered followed this path. Next we got the pasta bianco with gulf shrimps which came with mozzarella wine garlic bread (the bread was amazing btw), and the pasta tasted pretty nice. However, we were hit with that extremely salty taste once again but from the shrimps this time. I could only finish half the shrimps due to their saltiness. For the other dish, we got the beer can chicken with asparagus (instead of fries), which was not as salty as the soup or the shrimps, but still extremely salty tasting. Lastly, we ordered the death by brownie, which was the fudge brownie and vanilla ice cream, and that was the only other redeeming factor about this dinner. Overall, we pretty much just tasted mostly salt for most of the dishes. For the price of the dishes, we had expected something better. I'm giving this 2 stars only because the service was good, otherwise, the foods weren't worth it at all. We left feeling pretty dissatisfied and don't plan on ever coming back. read more

It is thin crust and had a really good flavor. There was lots of arugula on top (not cooked in), which I liked, because I love veggies on pizza, but it was easy to pick off since it wasn't cooked into the cheese if argula's not your thing. Service was great and our food and drinks came out quickly. We got there at 7:45pm for dinner and they closed at 9pm that night, but they assured us there was no rush when we were still talking close to 9pm, which was nice. The review is for Brunch only. Two of us came for breakfast right as they opened, at 10:00AM. The patio seating was open so we went out there. Very nice ambiance. Server came promptly to ask for drinks and took our order quickly thereafter that. Unfortunately, the food took 45 minutes to come out, even with there only being one other group there when we ordered. Maybe setting up was slow? Dish #1: Garlic Butter Breakfast Melt ($12) A set of 3 triangle sandwiches came out, stuck together onto a long wooden skewer. The dish also came with a deep fried hashbrown and a tomato soup. The sandwiches were spot on delicious. The bread was nice and crispy, and the insides filled with ingredients. I was even more impressed with the hashbrown, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I wasn't a huge fan of the tomato soup but it wasn't bad at all means. This could just be personal preference (I prefer creamy tomato soups. This was too acidic). All in all, excellent variety and good portions as well. Dish #2: Crab Cake Florentine ($15) Just a note, this dish isn't your typical eggs florentine. It doesn't come on top of English muffins, and the egg is not poached. Moving onto the dish itself: the whole dish actually came out lukewarm and the "crispy" onions were actually quite soggy. The sauce was also quite salty (confirming what a previous reviewer said). Crabcake itself wasn't bad and it had lots of lump and claw meat, which I enjoyed. However, because it wasn't hot at all, the dish just felt oily and heavy. Not a fan. I'd come again to try the pizza but was not too ecstatic at the long wait on food, even when we were the second party in, and the lack of temperature regulating on the crabcake florentine. read more

This place was so cute for brunch. Our waiter was super friendly and there are a ton of specials. My husband and I split one houston restaurant week meal, which was easily enough for 2. They were also doing $4 mimosas or their start-you-day specialty cocktails for $8. Came to this cute bistro nestled in a residential neighborhood for a Alum Happy Hour event on a Tuesday night. At six, the place was fairly empty and plenty of parking. When I left an hour later, both the restaurant and outside patio were packed. Our group was set up between the bar and the patio which was perfect. The service was great. The servers were on point with bringing wine, beer or mixed drinks throughout the evening. The appetizer bar was excellent, too. The Dairymaid's Cheese Board featured a wide variety of cheeses, sliced granny smith apples and preserves. The Shady Acres Picnic Platter had meats, picked veggies and olives. The Saffron Arancini were delicious fried risotto balls filled with gooey mozzarella with a side of orange and thyme marmalade. The minted lamb meatballs were delicious as well. The pizza bar featured three different pies. The Chuck You BBQ was a great bite--beer can chicken, smoked gouda, red onions and Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce. The margherita was okay. Did not try the truffle shuffle, but my friends said it was good. It was interesting how there were almost three restaurants in one--a sandy outdoor patio, a bar and a traditional dining room. This set up makes it a great place for families which were completely separated from our Happy Hour locale. They also have a enomatic wine dispensing system.
