If you want good vibes and tulum vibes. I went here during houston restaurant week and the service was pretty subpar for the prices you pay here. The music is loud so you get a clubby upscale lounge vibe. The valet attendant was nowhere to be found so I ended up parking in the parking lot which also cost money. It was about $8 to park in the parking lot and valet is $10. So, either way you will pay for parking. They give you chips and salsa and that was great. It had a hint of cheese powdery flavor and saltiness. The salsa was mild and tasted fresh. I tried the hamachi as an add on to my 3 course meal and it came it had ponzu sauce and truffle. The truffle wasn't strong but you could definitely taste it. It wasn't bad for a non sushi place. For the appetizer I ordered the queso it was cheesy and you could taste the green peppers. You get a tortilla with it to make yourself a little cheese taco. I got the short rib enchilada. It was cheesy and had two different salsa. One of the enchiladas had salsa suiza which was a green sauce. The other was salsa roja which was a red sauce. I preferred the green sauce one. Everything was cheesy. For the regular price of these it's $41 and I don't think they're worth the price when you can get the same thing elsewhere and probably bigger. The sea bass fish tacos were probably my favorite dish. It had a citrusy lime flavor and the fish was cooked perfectly fried in the butter batter and it wasn't overly crispy. The Cole slaw and tajin really blended everything together. The toastaditos were also easy to eat. Crunchy and a good amount of the short rib. For dessert I got the tres leches and it was moist and soft. The strawberry flavor was mild. I also tried the churros they were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. It came with two dipping sauces one of them being a Caramel like sauce and the other chocolate. Out of the two I e noted the tres leches cake more. Lots of people come here for the aesthetic. They use lots of fire so it is probably a good time with a group of friends. They have a fire sparkling candle and shots on fire. However, they do cost a premium price. The shots cost $60. For Houston restaurant week prices it was a good value but on any other day I would not come here. It's overpriced for the food and service. read more

I kept meaning to check this place out when it opened but the fact that you don't make the reservations on resy or open table kind of kept it off of my radar. Finally made it there for a Friday girls night and had a really good time. The dining room has major party vibes and while it was loud we were still able to hear each other. We really enjoyed the sashimi and hamachi as well as the truffle quesdilla. We also ordered the chicken fajitas which was coated in a lot more seasoning than I was expecting and did not love. Our server, Mohi, was great and my favorite part of the evening was when he served my tequila shot on fire. What a true delight. This place has officially taken the top spot as my favorite restaurant. I am blown away by how delicious the food was, not to mention the beautifully sophisticated decor, great vibe, and stellar service. We ordered the hamachi from the raw bar, grilled branzino, diver scallops, and the prime ribeye with chipotle mezcal butter, alongside sides of seasonal vegetables and truffle mac & cheese. Every single dish was outstanding, highly recommend them all. The absolute standout was the ribeye because it was more tender than many high-end steakhouses I've been to. Today we enjoyed Houston Restaurant Weeks brunch menu at Toca Madera with some friends. I was able to do valet and the service with that was amazing. So helpful. We placed a reservation ahead of time and were able to sit both parties together. The ambiance is breathtaking. It really is a wonderful experience to partake in a delicious meal with friends. I had the queso fundido and omelette mexicana and they were amazing! Both courses complemented each other. My friends had the ceviche blanco, vanilla cast iron pancake and tres leche French toast. Had an overall wonderful dining experience thanks to a fantastic ambiance and solid, attentive service. The food was largely delicious and visually stunning. The absolute highlights were the crispy tuna and caviar mini tacos, the beautifully presented ceviche ringed with avocado and pickled onions, and the piping-hot, sizzling fajitas. We also finished with a sweet, delicate layered cake that was as delicious as it was gorgeous. The only real disappointment was the tomahawk steak. VALET IS THE WORST PART!! Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff. The space and overall vibe are top-notch. That said, the drink service was frustratingly slow. Even with the restaurant less than half full, it took 20+ minutes to get drinks--and the same delay happened when we ordered a second round during the meal. At these prices, faster service would definitely lead to ordering more. Speaking of pricing... $450 for 4 people having just two rounds of drinks and appetizers felt excessive. The biggest downside, though, is the valet. There's no option to self-park, so you're forced to use it. The pricing isn't transparent--what's listed as $15 ends up closer to $20 with fees, and they only accept credit cards (while still charging a service fee). On top of that, the process is inefficient and the staff came off as rude. Even requesting the car in advance didn't help, and we were told to walk to another area to retrieve it. Overall: great ambiance and people inside, but slow drink service, high prices, and a frustrating valet experience would make me think twice about coming back. read more

The place is beautiful. Come dress to impress very very comfortable and just an amazing food experience. I definitely recommend the fajitas. I have visited Scottsdale a few times in the past couple of years, and Toca Madera has been on my to do list. Well, now they are in Houston with their third and largest location. I was more than excited to finally check them out for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night. We made reservations weeks in advance and had just a slight wait once we arrived. Parking options are valet or a paid parking lot behind the restaurant. If I remember correctly, valet ends up being cheaper and more convenient. First impressions just walking up was how sexy this place was from the patio to the entrance. Once I walked inside, I was immediately impressed by everything from the look of the place to the overall ambience and vibe. It definitely screams fine dining. From the minute we walked in until the time we walked out, we received great customer service. I wish I knew our servers name, but I'm not sure we ever got it. He, along with a wonderful team of folks helped us throughout. Not only are you dining nice, you are also entertained throughout dinner. From other reviews, some say they didn't get that, but we had a beautiful performer doing things with fire while another talented young man played electric guitar walking around the restaurant. On top of that, birthday celebrations had sparklers, while flaming shots and drinks were being lit in all directions. It got just a tad bit stuffy in there at one point from all the fire. Between my friends and I, we tried quite a few different drinks. I started off with a Carajillo while waiting on our table. Like I mentioned before, alot of these drinks come with a little wow factor. This one came out plated on a vessel that had dry ice in it which made it smoke when they added water to it. After I was seated I had the Ghost Rider which a nice, refreshing tequila drink that came out flaming. Who would've thought it? To close out my meal, I had the Scorched Earth which was a smoked Old Fashioned that came out beautifully presented as well. All the drinks were good, but extremely over priced. On to the food. They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were excellent and elevated. The salsa was more like a pico de gallo, but it was so very good. We were ready for entrees and skipped apps. Most of the table went with the taco flight where you get to pick four tacos out of sea bass, arrachera (avacado taco), truffle mushroom, and al pastor. I tried to get my money's worth on these tacos and went with the fish, mushroom and al pastor tacos. For the price, I would expect some rice and beans, but those were a la carte. We ended up getting street corn, cilantro lime rice and black beans. The tacos were good. Each one had delicious fillings, but my favorite was the sea bass because the flavors on it were outstanding. It had a kick to it which I love, but some of my dining companions thought was too spicy. All the sides were excellent as well with the cilantro lime rice really standing out compared to the rest. We of course had to get some dessert for the birthday girl even though we were all stuffed. She got the Dama De Los Muertos. This thing was a piece of art. The flavor combination of peanut butter mousse, cocoa nibs and raspberry coulis was so delicious. Overall, a great time was had by all. Yes this place is expensive, but for the ambience and dining with a flare, it makes it kind of worth the price of admission. I visited Toca Madera Houston on August 13, 2026, at 5:00 PM during Houston Restaurant Week, intending to meet a friend for happy hour and try the Restaurant Week menu. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from the start. I was the first guest to enter when the restaurant opened. The initial host was kind and told me we could be seated at the bar. I was wearing jeans, a short-sleeve collared shirt, and tennis shoes, and no one mentioned that I was violating any dress code. My friend arrived shortly after wearing jeans that appeared to have rips, but the distressed areas were covered with additional fabric and no skin was showing, along with a shirt and dress shoes. Despite the first host already telling us we could sit at the bar, the doorman or host stopped him immediately and said he could not enter. We still made our way to the bar, where the bar host provided menus, water, and appeared ready to serve us. A few minutes later, while the restaurant was still essentially empty because it had just opened, the same doorman came over to us again to tell us we could not eat there. I explained that I did not understand why our attire was being treated as a major issue, especially when it did not appear to clearly violate the posted dress code and other staff had made no mention of a problem. We asked to speak with a manager. When the manager arrived, he stated that we could not be served at the bar because of the jeans. He then jokingly suggested that if we went home, changed, and returned, he would buy us a drink. I found that comment dismissive, insensitive, and insulting given the situation. After reviewing the dress code, I did not see language that clearly supported the way we were treated. What made the experience worse was the inconsistency among staff and the feeling that the policy was being selectively applied. Rather than feeling welcomed as paying guests, we felt judged and embarrassed before even having the opportunity to dine. We left and went next door to Chandon for Restaurant Week, where we received excellent service. I will not return to Toca Madera Houston. This experience left me with the impression of an establishment more focused on image and exclusion than hospitality, fairness, or customer service. read more

Ahhhh, Mexican fine dining. What a treat. Mexican food easily sits in my top five favorite cuisines, so I will admit it does not take much to win me over. That said, I can absolutely tell the difference between elite and average. As you can probably tell from the photos attached to this review, this place is very Instagram and social media ready. With restaurants like this, there is always a concern that more attention is paid to aesthetics than to food quality. While this spot does not fully fall into that trap, there is still some room for improvement. Like most restaurants in this area, valet parking is offered. The pricing can feel a bit absurd when you watch them park your car just a few feet from the entrance, something you could easily do yourself. That said, the convenience of not having to search for parking, especially if you are running late for a reservation, does carry some value. The establishment itself is undeniably fancy. The decor is beautiful, most guests are dressed up, and the wait staff is professional. The drinks are strong and well made. They start you off with chips and salsa, which may honestly be some of the best I have ever had. I had to stop myself from eating too much before our entrees arrived. The menu is fairly typical for a restaurant of this caliber, and the pricing reflects that. This is not an everyday dinner spot by any means. It is clearly geared toward special occasions, which is why we chose it for our anniversary. I visited back in June, and while I cannot recall my exact entree, I do remember enjoying it. It did not completely blow me away, especially considering the price point, but it met my expectations. Would we go again? Yes. Would it be for a special occasion? Possibly. Nut allergy friendly: I had no issues while at our event, even with the desserts! Parking: Painful, we did valet for $10+tax. Can request car through an app when you're ready to leave but we actually just took our keys and found our car ourselves because they got pretty backed up. We came to Toca Madera for a special event, and I have to say, it was one of the most well handled events I've ever been to from a service perspective. Their private room comfortably held 75+ people. They set up four tables comfortably spaced apart containing appetizers, skewers and light bites, a steak tenderloin and sides cutting table, and desserts. Very intimate seating and good music volume across the room. The bartenders were on top of their stuff and made consistent, good drinks. The waitstaff were exceptionally polite and on top of things - and I've got to give a particular shout-out for James, who made sure we never wanted for anything from water to drinks to new plates. As for food, I would say overall that things were VERY seasoned. The sauces helped offset what felt like a little too much saltiness in a few dishes (specifically the shrimp skewers). Chicken Skewers: 4/5 nice and tender, good size Shrimp Skewers: 3.5/5 without sauce, 4.5/5 with sauce - also very well sized and a nice tender bite The Truffle Quesadillas were some of the best surprise of the night. Deliciously umami and rich (5/5). Beef Tenderloin: 5/5 with the chimichurri, they cut it like a Brazilian steakhouse to provide cuts of all types, and the medium rare was exceptionally tender Seasonal vegetables were brussel sprouts, nice and tender and the sauce was great. Desserts - the Strawberry Tres Leches was our favorite (4.5/5), very moist and not too sweet. The Oaxacan chocolate mousse was beautiful and also had a bit of bitterness that was really good (4/5). Churros were great and had four dipping sauces, of which I really enjoyed the caramel (4/5). The brown butter cake was the weakest as it was quite dry, even with the cream (2/5). This is my first true experience at an upscale Mexican restaurant and the most noticeable aspect of the food is how earthy is tastes. Everything seems natural, as it was with our historical ancestors before flavor was introduced. This doesn't mean there wasn't any flavor, because their side corn dish (essentially elotes) and Mayan Shrimp are amazing. The guacamole has pomegranate, which scared me, but that actually provides an interestingly nice zing to it. It's subtle. The drinks are all amazing, of which I ordered the No Mames. The presentation of them are so beautiful. I really appreciated the staff providing recommendations and giving their preferences without hesitation, while proactively minding any allergies or other dietary restrictions. However, the extremely high prices of the menu are hard to ignore while dining here. I find the experience should stand out to where you feel you are paying more than you would elsewhere for that unique or upscale standard. We celebrated our anniversary at Toca Madera this year. It's been one of Houston's hottest spots since opening, so I was excited to finally try it. We booked through InKind to take advantage of a limited offer and were seated right away. Unfortunately, we didn't love our table. It was a two-seater in a semi-shared space with a long cushioned bench on one side and chairs on the other. We decided to stay put and enjoy the night. On the bright side, we had a nice view of the live entertainment. Food and drinks were solid across the board, even the complimentary chips and pico. For dinner, we went for a surf-and-turf vibe, splitting the fish and steak. Both were great, and the sides were tasty too, except for the mashed potatoes, which were overly salty and watery. Our server, Sammie, was fantastic ...attentive, friendly, and made the evening special by surprising us with a complimentary anniversary dessert. Rico and Kate were absolutely amazing!! The ribeye, the wedge salad and the prawns were delicious and flavorful! The service was impeccable and the atmosphere in the restaurant is just enough to enjoy a night out with friends or an intimate night for two. I will definitely be visiting the other locations and come see these two again. If you haven't had an opportunity to experience Toca Madera you're definitely missing a treat! read more
