Nut allergy friendly: I had no issues while at our event, even with the desserts! Parking: Painful, we did valet for $10+tax. Can request car through an app when you're ready to leave but we actually just took our keys and found our car ourselves because they got pretty backed up. We came to Toca Madera for a special event, and I have to say, it was one of the most well handled events I've ever been to from a service perspective. Their private room comfortably held 75+ people. They set up four tables comfortably spaced apart containing appetizers, skewers and light bites, a steak tenderloin and sides cutting table, and desserts. Very intimate seating and good music volume across the room. The bartenders were on top of their stuff and made consistent, good drinks. The waitstaff were exceptionally polite and on top of things - and I've got to give a particular shout-out for James, who made sure we never wanted for anything from water to drinks to new plates. As for food, I would say overall that things were VERY seasoned. The sauces helped offset what felt like a little too much saltiness in a few dishes (specifically the shrimp skewers). Chicken Skewers: 4/5 nice and tender, good size Shrimp Skewers: 3.5/5 without sauce, 4.5/5 with sauce - also very well sized and a nice tender bite The Truffle Quesadillas were some of the best surprise of the night. Deliciously umami and rich (5/5). Beef Tenderloin: 5/5 with the chimichurri, they cut it like a Brazilian steakhouse to provide cuts of all types, and the medium rare was exceptionally tender Seasonal vegetables were brussel sprouts, nice and tender and the sauce was great. Desserts - the Strawberry Tres Leches was our favorite (4.5/5), very moist and not too sweet. The Oaxacan chocolate mousse was beautiful and also had a bit of bitterness that was really good (4/5). Churros were great and had four dipping sauces, of which I really enjoyed the caramel (4/5). The brown butter cake was the weakest as it was quite dry, even with the cream (2/5). Drinks were also really good - they make some awesome cocktails with mezcal and did a very cool show for shots with cinnamon bursting into flames! They didn't have any... very sad but OMG, when I took my first bite into my food, I was blown away by the flavor. A1 is not necessary due to the fact that it was packed with soooo much flavor, the butter garlic on top did what was needed. Sami is the best waiter I've had in a long time and he is adorable. He did a great job keeping up with our party of six, stayed attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The food was just as impressive--everything was cooked well and full of flavor. If I come back, I'd skip the ribeye and go straight for the porterhouse paired with the lobster mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. That combination was easily the highlight of the meal. VALET IS THE WORST PART!! Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff. The space and overall vibe are top-notch. That said, the drink service was frustratingly slow. Even with the restaurant less than half full, it took 20+ minutes to get drinks--and the same delay happened when we ordered a second round during the meal. At these prices, faster service would definitely lead to ordering more. Speaking of pricing... $450 for 4 people having just two rounds of drinks and appetizers felt excessive. The biggest downside, though, is the valet. There's no option to self-park, so you're forced to use it. The pricing isn't transparent--what's listed as $15 ends up closer to $20 with fees, and they only accept credit cards (while still charging a service fee). On top of that, the process is inefficient and the staff came off as rude. Even requesting the car in advance didn't help, and we were told to walk to another area to retrieve it. Overall: great ambiance and people inside, but slow drink service, high prices, and a frustrating valet experience would make me think twice about coming back. read more

We mostly enjoyed our night at TM however there is room for improvement. First the prawn dish my date ordered was grossly overcooked. He is the kind of guy that complains about everything but this time he was spot on. The prawns were so hard and chewy they should have been sent back to the kitchen. They do have live entertainment including an electric guitar player and a fire dancer walking around but you need to be seated in the main dining area to view this. We were seated in an area off the right. The room itself was just as pleasing as the rest of the restuarant but we couldnt see any of the live entertainment that was walking around because they never came to our area. Speaking of the live entertainment the music here is too darn loud. Seeing the ambiance online its dark, cozy and moody, you'd think its the perfect date night spot but it is not idea because you literally cannot have a conversation without screaming at each other and straining to hear. On the positive, the petite filet was Ah-mazing as was the Pillow Talk martini and the service definitely matches the price point - attentive and yielding. I definitely recommend the short rib one. From the raw bar, we ordered the ceviche blanco, which was tangy and filled with fresh sea bass, and the flavors paired well together. Super refreshing! For the main course, we both ordered from the "members only" menu. (Note: We are not members, but our server mentioned that we could still order from it.) I got the lobster enchiladas while my fiancé ordered the wagyu fajitas. Both dishes were of great portion sizes. My enchiladas were filled with juicy lobster and came with rice and beans. His meal was very substantial and came with homemade tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and the wagyu. We also ordered the truffle mac and cheese and whipped potatoes for the table. The mac and cheese is a MUST TRY! It had the perfect amount of truffle flavor and was incredibly creamy. Definitely one of the best we've had. With restaurants like this, there is always a concern that more attention is paid to aesthetics than to food quality. While this spot does not fully fall into that trap, there is still some room for improvement. Like most restaurants in this area, valet parking is offered. The pricing can feel a bit absurd when you watch them park your car just a few feet from the entrance, something you could easily do yourself. That said, the convenience of not having to search for parking, especially if you are running late for a reservation, does carry some value. The establishment itself is undeniably fancy. The decor is beautiful, most guests are dressed up, and the wait staff is professional. The drinks are strong and well made. They start you off with chips and salsa, which may honestly be some of the best I have ever had. I had to stop myself from eating too much before our entrees arrived. The menu is fairly typical for a restaurant of this caliber, and the pricing reflects that. This is not an everyday dinner spot by any means. We celebrated our anniversary at Toca Madera this year. It's been one of Houston's hottest spots since opening, so I was excited to finally try it. We booked through InKind to take advantage of a limited offer and were seated right away. Unfortunately, we didn't love our table. It was a two-seater in a semi-shared space with a long cushioned bench on one side and chairs on the other. We decided to stay put and enjoy the night. On the bright side, we had a nice view of the live entertainment. Food and drinks were solid across the board, even the complimentary chips and pico. For dinner, we went for a surf-and-turf vibe, splitting the fish and steak. Both were great, and the sides were tasty too, except for the mashed potatoes, which were overly salty and watery. Our server, Sammie, was fantastic ...attentive, friendly, and made the evening special by surprising us with a complimentary anniversary dessert. I was very excited about visiting Toca Madera due to the social media hype. Unfortunately, I was not blown away by the overall experience. Our reservation was for a Friday date night. The restaurant offers valet parking for $12 which is reasonable for Houston. I must say the decor and theme of the restaurant was executed beautifully! It gives a very elevated dining experience with extravagant entryways and a staff who dressed the part. Our waiter was nice but he made us feel rushed. The menu offers steaks, tacos, and a few other Mexican inspired dishes. I ordered the passionfruit margarita which was absolutely delicious. Please be mindful if you order a cocktail, the glass will likely be filled with tons of ice. I ordered the chicken Al Pastor tacos which were overpriced and extremely dry. I had to ask the waiter for a side of aïoli inspired sauce in which he was able to make it happen. Unfortunately, when he packed up my leftovers, he did not include the sauce. I also ordered the truffle fries which came with a delicious side sauce. Unfortunately, my packed leftover fries did not include the side dipping sauce. I didn't realize this until I arrived home. The restaurant offers a brief fire show, which was incredible. If you were looking for a restaurant to engage in good conversation, be prepared to yell because the music was extremely loud. A bit overdone gimick-wise. I didn't appreciate paying $100 for three Listerine strip-sized pieces of alleged Wagyu steak. The gimmick is one of the cooks comes to cook it tableside. The problem is the strips are so thin, they cook through right away. They taste just like salisbury steak from school lunch. It's more about the presentation. So if you like an ostentatious show for everyone else to be looking at you, this might be for you. For me it was a bit embarrassing, and I didn't even get to enjoy the steak. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Very well decorated, beautiful tropical and romantic ambiance. This comes with the caveat that you'll probably end up in someone else's IG story or TikTok feature. Be warned. Overall I don't think the food quality is worth the price point. The restaurant seems to rely on its decor and presentation of food more than the quality and creativity of the dishes. Started off with the Passion Fruit Margarita and asked for Tajn on the rim (equal balance of the Reposado tequila and mix and tasty). For the table, it had already came with some chips + pico de gallo, but we also added some plantain chips and guac as well (guac was topped off with some pomegranate and some type of seeds, nicely seasoned and chunky). For my entree, I opted to get the Noble Burger (it was cooked nicely/juicy and came with delicious crispy curly fries). There is a auto grat for larger groups of 20% and max split is 4. Our server was Angelica and she was knowledgeable and attentive. There is also a speakeasy bar towards the back of the restaurant near the restroom. We took a peak inside and it was actually really big for a speakeasy and plenty of seating. The restaurant itself is actually really big too and even has outdoors seating as well. Very instagramable. They had a fire dancer as well that would come by throughout the night for a mini performance. The food was so good, I had the taco flight and you have to get the mushroom if you love mushrooms. The sea bass is heavy on the breading but still super tasty. And Rafael recommended the passion fruit margarita SO DELISH!!!! The Caesar is a must have cheesy, spicy and so fresh. The Tuna tacos are the perfect starter as well with the caviar. This was our first time visiting Toca Madera. We came with a family of six and had to come a little early due to no kids after 7 pm - but completely understand. This place is beautiful and there are so many places to take pictures. Our waitress, Christina, was amazing. She was so kind, helpful and full of life. She explained the menu and drinks in detail. It was perfect because we were able to select items based on our palette and be adventurous too. We grabbed the calamari and Tostaditos. The short rib was flavorful and soft. The calamari was delicious and I enjoyed the fried jalapeños. For dinner we got the flamin tomahawk. It was a great presentation and very tasty. It is paired with a bone marrow chimichurri - so delicious. We even got Mac and cheese and fries. The fries were ok, but kids loved them. We ordered the churros and the butter cake for dessert. Both delicious The drinks we tried were amazing. Nothing overly sweet and definitely complex. Our favorite were the fresh margaritas. Came here for a weeknight birthday dinner, so we were a pretty large party. To start, parking is very limited in this area, so your best option is to valet for $10 (card only, no cash). There is a surface parking lot in front of EOS fitness but it's $5/hr and availability can vary. Once inside, it was a very lively atmosphere with an elegant ambiance. They had us wait at the bar while our table was being prepared. On the side of the bar where the DJ is, they have live entertainers performing dances with fire which was cool, but once we were seated at our table there weren't visible from where we were. I loved our waitress because she kept it pretty real with us when it came to the menu. While all the appetizers for the table were good, for entrees she did not recommend anything in the "land" section and stated she only recommended the "sea" options. I appreciated that honestly even if it was disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber. I went with the salmon which was indeed good, along with my sides of Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese. I topped that off with a passion fruit margarita which was also delightful. While what I actually ordered was overall good, in my opinion it was not worth it given the prices...this restaurant is definitely on the higher end compared to some other fine dining restaurants who have more variety in recommended dishes. I celebrated a milestone birthday here with a few friends. I don't really celebrate with friends, especially because it's close to Thanksgiving or on that day. Everyone is busy during the holidays and out-of-town. Since it was a milestone, I decided to pick a place that looked different without a typical restaurant vibe. Toca Madera definitely fits the bill. Though it's near downtown off Allen Pkwy, it's tucked away enough to where it seems like you're transported somewhere else. It definitely has Tulum/Vegas vibes with all the lovely greenery at the front entrance and the decor inside. Instagrammable for photo ops. Originally, I was going to have about 13-15 guests. Booking a private room was pretty pricey with a minimum, and when the celebration happened, there was only 6 of us, so I was glad I took the chance to just book in the dining area. When we got there, we had to wait till the whole party arrived, so we took photos and grabbed drinks at the bar. We were seated right by the DJ that night, so it was pretty loud. You almost had to yell talk just to hear the person next to or across from you. They served complimentary chips and salsa which was good. The Agua Fresca cocktail was great, and the little vile is so cute. My friends and I ordered the Mexican chop salad, hamachi, diver scallops, branzino, truffle manchego fries, sea bass tacos and al pastor tacos. The food took a while to come out, so we took a few more photos outside in a small group. I preferred the beer-battered sea bass tacos with habanero crema over the al pastor free-range chicken tacos. I tried some of the hamachi and thought it was fresh, and I don't eat a lot of seafood let alone raw fish. Truffle fries are what you expect. I liked that they were curly fries. I got two desserts - a complimentary brownie with ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup presented with a big sparkler and ordered the brown butter cake. The brown butter cake was pricey at $22 or something like that. It had bourbon toffee sauce, toasted feuilletine crumble, berry sauce, and vanilla bean ice cream. It was the best dessert. I could drink that bourbon toffee sauce. Lol. I was happy to celebrate with friends, but I think the food is overpriced. What's going for this place are the cocktails and ambiance. Dining at Toca Madera felt like a quick trip out of Houston--it honestly gave more Mexico City or Miami energy the moment we walked in. The ambiance is unreal: moody lighting, greenery everywhere, and just a really elevated vibe without feeling stuffy. We ordered the tomahawk steak, branzino, tacos, Brussels sprouts, and truffle mac & cheese. The tomahawk was the showstopper--flaming tableside, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The branzino was fresh and light, which balanced everything out. Tacos were great too, though I only managed to get a picture of those. The Brussels were crispy and packed with flavor, and the mac was super creamy without being too heavy. Getting a table isn't the easiest--this place stays packed--but if you can snag one, absolutely go. It's worth it. Once you're inside, it doesn't even feel like Houston in the best way possible. I love that the city is finally stepping into these kinds of beautiful, experience-driven restaurants. We need more of this. read more

I would rate this place 3.5 stars. We visited on May 10 and had a 1p reservation. Our server was fantastic! (I think) Her name started with a B and she had long blondish braids. She was warm and friendly, with very helpful recommendations when asked. I am big on service and she is the reason I would give this establishment another chance. We had a lady (I believe Julianne) lead us to our seat/section and I don't think she was very welcoming. She sat us in our section and proceeded to tell us that the door leading to the outdoor patio would be open. Mind you, it was extremely windy and it literally was impacting the quality of our experience indoors. It was absolutely unpleasant. It wasn't until that issue was pushed, that she went (somewhat grudgingly) to ask the manager if she could close the door. Thankfully, they agreed to. Moving on to the food - the blanco ceviche and hamachi appetizers were DELICIOUS! My entree was the chicken & waffles, and I probably wouldn't get again due to fried chicken being soggy and the waffles lacking the sweeter flavor I prefer. From reports of others - the salads were tasty as well and nicely portioned. The drinks were finely crafted as well. We had a gin 75 and a Bloody Mary experience which was tasty. Would recommend getting those! The ambiance is incredible. A lot of greenery and beautiful artwork. But I need more than aesthetics, I want to walk away feeling GREAT about the entire experience, not just looking like the experience was good. read more

I've been thinking about what to say about this place, and unfortunately there's not much. I should've trusted my gut that the hype might not be worth it. The place looks nice, sure, but the food Not so much. Let's start with the valet you have to valet your car, and it's between $15 for regular or $40 for "VIP," which is almost laughable considering the actual entrance is around the back of the building anyway. We arrived on a Sunday evening and grabbed a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. Cool vibe, yeah but $60 for two mezcal cocktails Rough. Once seated, we started with the wonton A5 wagyu tacos. Let me tell you, the lime wedges were literally bigger than the tacos themselves. The meat didn't taste like wagyu at all chewy, underwhelming, and for nearly $40? Come on. We ordered another round of drinks while trying to decide whether to keep going. I almost ordered the tomahawk, and I'm so glad I didn't. I watched the table next to us get it big show, sure, but visually Meh. My wife went with the NY strip, ordered medium rare, with a side of truffle mac and cheese. I had the short rib enchiladas with cilantro lime rice. The steak was Overcooked and aggressively salty. The mac and cheese was probably the best thing we had rich, creamy, well done. My enchiladas were disappointing. The meat could've used way more time braising it was tough and the sauce was overly acidic. I suspect the cast iron skillet it was served in might have intensified that sourness. The rice Just decent. At this point, I should've thrown in the towel but I ordered one more round of drinks, which ended up being flat-out bad. The dessert, though, was actually good. All in all: 6 drinks, 1 appetizer, 2 mains, 2 sides, 1 dessert--$500 later. Would I go back? Probably not. Oh, and heads up: if you're coming for the show, don't bother--they don't have it on Sunday night. read more
