I actually did not get to try anything here, and I do not plan to return. Before visiting, I specifically checked Google Maps because I had my dog with me. The listing for this exact location says "pets welcome," so I felt confident stopping by. However, as soon as I walked in, I was greeted by two customers fawning over my dog. Before any staff member greeted me or even acknowledged me as a customer, someone from behind the far counter told me that dogs were not allowed inside. I mentioned that their Google listing says pets are welcome, and the response was that it applies to a different location. That would be fine if it were clear, but the listing I checked had this location's address directly underneath "pets welcome." That is confusing and misleading. What made it more frustrating was the lack of hospitality. There was no greeting, no attempt to clarify kindly, no "We're sorry for the confusion," and no effort to offer a solution like helping me quickly order to go. It felt dismissive. Clear and accurate information matters. If pets are not welcome at this location, the listing should reflect that. I drove out of my way based on that detail, and it ended up being a waste of time and gas. Love this location a little away from our home tucked into a strip center. This place had delicious smells of coffee as soon as you walked in the door . Tables had various board games on them such as chess Simpson edition, UNO and checkers for the littles.They even have wine and beer for the Bigs. Customer service was so friendly as we ordered some takeout wraps and were out quickly. They even have a walk up window and saw they giving pup cups for someone's furrbaby. Came across this recently when just searching coffee places around the area so finally made it in. Was wanting the breakfast bagel, so that was the reason for the visit, more so than coffee. Slowpokes has a unique vibe to it that lives up to its title. The music is typically on the chiller side, creative sloth paintings line the walls everywhere, and the interior feels very open. I have a pleasant time any time I visit for remote work, but keep in mind that they only offer 2 hours of wifi with each order. Your receipt grants you access. Despite its less than stellar surroundings, I still prefer this location over the one in Upper Kirby due to seating (disclaimer: I haven't been to the other four locations). This one has a mix of high and low seated tables as well as individual booths against the wall, whereas the one in Upper Kirby only has high seats that put tension on my lower back after an hour. The staff are welcoming and polite which adds to the chill experience. In addition, I've never had any complaints about the cleanliness of either the main room or the bathroom. This coffee shop is a solid getaway, although I wish they allowed more than 2 hours of WiFi before requiring another purchase to connect. read more

A go-to of mine when I'm in Houston, partially because it's convenient to where I stay and mostly because it's good and consistently good. They have a full coffee menu from basic drip to all the fancy things (+seasonal items), and good, quick breakfast. I like the tacos and salmon bagel a lot. They serve wine but I've never been here for anything other than coffee and breakfast items. The decor and atmosphere are adorable with tons of art and cool knick-knacks of slow paced animals... the sloth, snail, and turtle. The print of the sloth pole dancing is one of my favorites! There's a mixture of people in and out and some who are camped for several hours to work. They have board games for the kiddos (and adults, too) and a cute little vintage ride-on turtle for small ones. The staff at the register is happy to convert your dollar into quarters. read more

Saw they were advertising a cookie butter latte for the fall season so I stopped by to do a little work and give it a try. I'm not sure what coffee and syrups they use but it tasted pretty bad, like water. I was superrrr disappointed. I also tried the breakfast tacos, they weren't bad, pretty decent for a coffee shop. Overall it's a nice spot to study ( you do have to pay to use the WiFi - 2 hr limit or you have to purchase more items) but not the best place for coffee in my opinion. read more

We decided to give this place another chance since the owner responded quickly to my previous review and we truly do LOVE the coffee and food so came at 2pm when only a couple tables were taken up but unfortunately it just didn't go well. I ordered one bagel with no bacon, extra tomato, and one breakfast biscuit, along with a seasonal matcha after being told the cancer support drink wasn't good. The cashier Abbey repeated our order back correctly but must have entered it wrong, which we didn't realize until two bagels were brought to our table. It wasn't a big deal -- I explained to the food runner what we had actually ordered, and then we watched Abbey and the barista go back and forth trying to sort it out at least five times. Abbey knew what we ordered because we heard her repeat it correctly multiple times; she just pressed the wrong thing. Mistakes happen, and that part wasn't the issue -- it was how confusing and disorganized the response became, especially as they kept overexplaining something that should've been a simple fix. When the food came out the second time, it appeared correct at first but unfortunately had bacon. Since I'm vegetarian, I couldn't eat it. Because it was our two-year anniversary and we have plans later this afternoon, we didn't have time to wait for a third attempt. I politely asked for a refund for mine and a to-go box for my husband's meal. At that point, someone who seemed like a manager asked what happened, and the barista completely misrepresented the situation, blaming us for "mixing up" the order. When I clarified what actually happened, the woman brushed it off with, "Ok, I'm just asking," and the barista interrupted again with, "AS I WAS SAYING" The lack of accountability and professionalism was unreal and he is just so aggressive every time. They said a refund couldn't be processed in-store and that we'd have to text the owner with photo proof to request one, which could take up to three business days if they decided to approve it -- even though the mistake had just happened right in front of them. The male barista with the metal nose ring continues to drive customers away with his rude and condescending attitude. Adding to the frustration, when the first mistake occurred, Abbey actually laughed and said, "It's ok, I'll eat it instead." I understand food doesn't get thrown out, but laughing about it after blaming the customer is pretty wild. I really love their coffee and their food but the interactions I've had with their staff and this same barista are just not worth the trouble anymore. read more

So my order from slow pokes did come from Uber eats and was warm when I received it. Overall, I was not blown away by the food. The ham and cheese croissant was okay and I think could have been great BUT it was over toasted. It had some black marks and one side was beyond flaky crust. It was just burnt tasting. I would love to taste this one again in person and fresh. The grilled pesto panini seemed to be a little chewy pretzel bread wise and the pesto was just thrown on one corner side of sandwich. So when I took a hit there it was a slap to the taste buds just my opinion. I will try to go again in person to Slow pokes. I am very much a coffee person and I must admit I didn't order any. My friend and I arrived at 8AM as they opened to grab a quick breakfast and coffee. They opened right on time and welcomed us inside. The kitchen was not yet ready to start making breakfast so there was a bit of a delay but it wasn't a problem. I ended up ordering a coffee and then something from their bakery case as all of the croissants and pastries looked delicious! My friend ordered off the true breakfast menu and then also got a latte. Her items did take a very long time to come out, but that's because of the earlier noted delay in the kitchen. They don't seem to have simple things that you may expect them too (butter and jam) but you can't complain as that's not a menu item. I've had this place on my listed to try for awhile. I came in on a Friday morning and was surprised by how many people were sitting down eating. I ordered one of their seasonal drinks the caramel macchiato nitro cold brew. For food I picked the everything bagel breakfast sandwich and a chocolate croissant cause why not. The coffee had a weird taste to it. I couldn't pin point what was off. I asked the barista for another pump of caramel to try to make it sweeter to help but that didn't work. My breakfast sandwich sounded amazing and looked amazing however the amount of cream cheese over powered the sandwich. Once I deconstructed it I enjoyed it more. Saving the cream cheese and bottom half of the bagel for last. The chocolate croissant was amazing. It was freshly made and had the right texture and the perfect amount of chocolate. I'll be back to give their coffee another try and maybe another food item but I'm in no rush. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops in Houston!! Came here twice during my last visit to town. The place itself is well designed and aesthetically pleasing. I love the wall art of the three animals and the old fashioned looking speakers they have. It's a great coffee shop to come sit and do work, not overly loud, plenty of seating. They also have some board games if you wanna hang out. It was rainy the day we went so we played some candy land. They have food options, bakery & coffee options. I had the breakfast biscuit which is served with a jalapeño jam, it was definitely an interesting flavor combo. I had the lavender latte for drink and it was just as I expected it to be (so good).
