Great hidden cafe on the corner of Westheimer road near other local cafes. Coffee is super good, decor is rustic and lovely vibe you can sit inside and outside. Good food and friendly staff.
I rarely visit Midtown since I don't commute to Houston for work anymore, but a friend's live show here last night (Saturday, Mar. 28) brought me out. The research I did on Brasil revealed that the establishment has existed for more than 30 years. Point of fact, the same friend who had the performance told me that his original college band was Brasil's first-ever live music act so in a way, it was a full circle moment. As much as I've been to the area, it was my first time at Brasil. My first impression is that it's very discreet from the outside. Upon entering, you see what looks like your traditional urban coffeehouse with its earthy, brick-laden setup. No gentleman in the corner reciting poetry, though. *Laughs* But for the evening, I went to the back patio where my friend and his current band -- they're called Zenjii look them up -- had their show. The area gives off a backyard in the spring vibe and it helped that the weather was Goldilocks, or just right. Brasil may mainly serve hot, caffeinated drinks, but it does offer a nice variety of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That alone makes it hard to decide what to have, but my heart was set on their grilled cheese. I haven't had grilled cheese in forever so why not? Well, I'm really impressed with my meal, which was accompanied by a generous helping of fries. The contents -- white and sharp cheddar, tomato, tourn, and sourdough -- all meshed quite well to make for a not-too heavy yet satisfying supper. I must confess that I now regret not following the barista's suggestion to pair it with tomato soup. Still, I could order the grilled cheese again. I topped it off with a massive chocolate chip cookie, which my friend's wife said was as big as a pancake, and hibiscus iced tea. They also have a couple of water stations if you're looking for H2O.
Second time visiting and a really wonderful experience. Between me, my husband, and our toddler, we had a cinnamon roll, old fashioned doughnut, strawberry danish latte, steak and eggs, and a few breakfast tacos. The latte was a little sweet for our tastes but we did also order a strawberry danish latte so maybe that's to be expected. Steak and eggs were great, tacos were good, and pastries were yummy too. Everything was super fast (had our food within ten minutes) and the vibe of the restaurant was so cool! Great indoor space that our toddler did well in and, given nicer weather, the patios seem amazing too!
The atmosphere is perfect - 3 different settings, 2 patio areas, one in the back (quiet) and one in the front (lively, chatty) and an indoor seating area (mix of both). The food on the other hand was just OK. Pricey for the amount of food you get. Two salmon tacos for over $15, each containing a tiny tiny piece of salmon. The soup was served in a wide shallow bowl that made it seem like it was a large portion. It may be equivalent to a mini side bowl of soup. I would come back for drinks & atmosphere only, but will pass on the food.
Came for a friends birthday lunch, plenty of pretty patio seating in the front and back. Operates like a cafe so you order before seating yourself. Nice ambiance with a casual vibe. I ordered the pan seared salmon, the salmon was well cooked (you can customize how cooked) and the butternut squash was amazing! Overall the dish was a little oily and small portion for my liking though. My friend got the korean pulled pork she liked it a lot! Very large portions she couldn't finish the whole thing. Prices are on the higher side but you pay for the ambiance, I recommend sitting outside! There's a scary dog in the back patio though. Drinks are quite nice here too, full cafe.
Wow, if you ever had a matcha martini, this might be it! As someone who drinks much every day, this Matcha martini was amazing! It basically really taste like a Matcha latte! The other drink was a strawberry lemonade, which was very refreshing! Huge space, good luck menu, I highly recommend I would come back
This space is definitely centered around having a great vibe for the customers. People say the good is okay but you really need to know what to order. I had a chipotle chicken bowl and a sparkling water with lemon and it was just a great meal in my opinion. Very relaxing vibe and whoever takes care of the aux did great this evening. Would bring my friends here for sure.
Met a friend for lunch and ordered the jalpeño turkey burger. It was cooked great, and I appreciated having a lighter protein option than beef. The fries were the right combination of crisp and softness. I wasn't able to eat all of my food initially, but it tasted great reheated. I liked the vibe of the place - it was a great place for a social call as well as for those who were working independently. Will keep this place on my lunch date option list for the Montrose area.
Brasil is my favorite brunch spot in the neighborhood! I come here for brunch more often than I'd like to admit, probably at least a couple times a month. The reason is the Morning Bowl, which I order 75% or the time I'm here - it has crispy/oily rice, massaged fresh kale, avocado, and a runny egg, all topped with an amazing sauce. It is delicious, filling, healthy (I hope), and super reasonably priced. What rounds out brunch is always a carafe of their mimosas - the juice quality is average, but they do add a full 750cc bottle of bubbly into each carafe, perfect for sharing (although don't be surprised if you order a second!). They have plentiful outdoor seating, which you will always find buzzing on weekends when the weather is nice. The people who work the counter are the absolute nicest. Some people mention some odd encounters with the owner, but he has heen nothing but nice to me when I've interacted with him And this is random: but I also think they have the best Irish coffee (maybe better than the Dead Rabbit in NYC, which is my other favorite) - if you don't believe me, try and judge for yourself!
Brasil is one of my go-to spots in Houston! Whether you're looking for coffee, brunch, dinner, or cocktails, Brasil is the best catchall location. Their coffee is excellent and their food is great! The indoor and outdoor dining areas are spacious and inviting, providing a great environment for social gatherings or productive work sessions. They often host fun activities in the back courtyard like open mic nights, vendor markets, or DJ sessions, so be sure to peruse their online calendar.
Man the pork tamal was sublime. It came out out and had a subtle spice for flavor. I'm not typically a fan of salsa verde but you better bet my tamal was drowning in the side salsa verde. It's also a pretty decent size too. 1 tamal is enough to get ur day started. The English fog tea was quite brilliant mate! You can tell it's a quality tea bag. The Vanilla syrup was the source of its subtle sweetness that provided a good morning sip.
I came here for a quick bite with friends before heading around the corner for ice cream nearby. Brasil has been around for some time and apparently was one of the first specialty coffee shops in Houston all those years ago. I've had them on my list for awhile so it was nice to cross it off the to do list. Getting here was easy but parking looks like it could be challenging. I was lucky enough to grab a spot out front on the street, but had to be careful getting out and crossing the street. This comes with the territory for most spots in this general area. Customer service was great. The staff behind the counter was super friendly and steered me in the right direction on what to get. I wasn't super hungry when I got here so a Struggle Bowl seemed like a good choice to me. I felt like it was going to be this dainty bowl, but it was quite large and very filling. This bowl was filled with some of my favorite ingredients and flavors. It came with rice, chicken, cabbage, serrano peppers, cilantro, chipotle mayo and jalapeno sauce. I'm a big fan of a nice bowl where I can just mix everything together and eat. This was that and delicious. All the flavors went well together and I did not feel guilty eating it whatsoever. They also have a few other bowl selections as well. The menu for lunch, dinner and breakfast had lots of variety and options. Other than parking, this place definitely checked all the boxes for me. Chill, comfortable and delicious food. I will be back.
Love this place. Great food, lovely coffee and the music is always a vibe. I always try to go during the quieter times so I can get my favorite spot with the outlet and I can get some work accomplished while I relax a bit in a serene environment. I usually get something light to eat and a coffee and they are amazingly quick and my order is always brought out to me with such kind energy. Oh and love that they have a communal water area to be able to hydrate while ya caffeinate. This place is one of my favorite spots in Houston
Pretty casual place with counter order and good food and coffee. I had the avocado toast and our table shared a French toast, both of which were pretty good. I also had their iced maple oat and pistachio halvah latte, both of which were delicious. Food and drinks all came out pretty fast. One big downside of this place is no parking. There's only street parking available and on the weekends, it gets pretty busy. read more
I stopped by Brasil on a Friday night after getting a tattoo at 713, and it ended up being such a fun random dinner spot. The parking situation in the area definitely sucks -- we ended up parking on a random street in the neighborhood behind the strip -- but once we got there, the vibe made up for it. We sat outside on the covered patio, and halfway through dinner they started playing reggaeton, which completely changed the energy in the best way. It turned into such a vibe. My friend and I both ordered the Cheeseburger in Paradise, and it was really good. The burger was cooked well, and the jalapeño sauce was honestly the star -- it added such a nice kick. The fries were also solid and seasoned really well. I also had two rounds of their strawberry basil lemonade cocktail, which was super refreshing and delicious. To end the night, we ordered their chocolate chip cookies for dessert, and those were so good too -- thin with crispy edges but still soft in the center. Overall, I'd definitely come back again. It's a really fun, laid-back spot with great food and drinks. read more
Brasil absolutely came through Tried the Bean & Braised Greens Tamales with black beans & avocado and wow... super simple but sooo flavorful. Everything tasted fresh, seasoned just right, and honestly just felt good to eat. Def one of those meals where you're like yeah...this hits different The spot itself is really beautful inside, great energy, super chill but still lively. Perfect place to just sit, eat, and vibe for a bit. Staff was kind and everything felt smooth from start to finish Love that they have solid vegan options that don't feel like an afterthought. Have been back to this place for so many years and pretty much the same except the back patio was upgrade with more tables. It has a nice ambiance at the front patio with lots of bamboo trees for shade. Food was good and service was frien read more

Brasil is one of my favorite brunch spots. It isn't too crowded and the service is always prompt. It's always a relaxing environment with a beautiful patio and outdoor seating area. I saw announcements for live music and will definitely try to return at another time! I ordered the chipotle chicken bowl for brunch and it was a hearty meal! I loved the layering of the chicken, cabbage, sauce, rice, and cilantro! I loved sitting with friends, eating this meal, and taking in the relaxing atmosphere. I will definitely be returning to Brasil. read more

I haven't been to this place in at least 10+ years. I feel like it's a neighborhood staple. People come here to study, get work done, enjoy a coktail before going out, or just an easy family night, etc. I noted that previous reviews had said management forces you to order food immediately upon arrival in order to remain in the dining area. And that you must order food to use the wifi, etc. I waited for my friends a bit, and no one hassled me, so that's good. Me and 2 other Elites came here to fill our bellies before we walked over to Jeni's Ice Cream for an Elite week treat. I was hungry but not starving. The menu gives off comfort food for sure. I feel as though that's what gives it this sort of charm. Service - was straightforward. You order at the bar counter, and get a number. Our server, Cristino, helped me decide what I wanted to order. He was very friendly. They have a water station thats self-serve. I decided not to order any cocktails, but they did have a long menu of options. Food - Cristino shared that he really loves the grilled cheese, as he gets it here for his free meal. It's one of his favs. I love grilled cheese, and any time I see it on a menu, my interest is piqued. So it was an easy decision. It came out super cheesy & nice thick bread, which I love, 5/5 on that. I had already read the reviews that folks were not a fan of the soup. I agree it does taste like canned mariner sauce 2/5, it can be doctored up more. I do like that it was thick to sop up with the grilled cheese. My friends enjoyed their meals, it was just enough food. Parking- street parking only, no lot. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. So because of the nice service, I rounded up to a total of 4/5. read more
This is an okay place. Came here to get some work done with a friend as we wanted to try a different place but we should've stuck with our usual across the street, Empire Cafe. Parking is difficult since there's so many places around but you can try to find street parking. The place is also cute. Red brick, greenery, patio, very modern and cute vibe. You order at the bar and they bring the food and drinks to you. The staff was friendly and the service was quick but that's about it. The chicken bowls we had were pretty much mostly rice. We hardly had any chicken in the bowl... the cold brew coffee was good. They don't have any WiFi on the weekend, which is announced on their website and I wish we would've seen beforehand or else we wouldn't have really gone.. the site also says they limit the WiFi to 2hrs per visit during the week in which you need to make a purchase every hour. Otherwise this is an ok place to grab lunch or dinner. read more

Great place to have coffee and brunch! We were there on a networking meetup and the place was nice and big so there was good ambiance and space to hang out with friends. Service is fast! Also food was really good, tried the potato bacon egg breakfast taco and it was huge and delicious! I also tried the Mexican Mocha which is a feast of flavour in your mouth, definitely a must-try!! The music was rad, quite a mix of genres which I loved! Only issue is the parking but it's Montrose so that's a given, but definitely a good place to go! read more

Food is always so good, breakfast lunch and dinner ALL of them are a hit. My favorite were the chicken tacos but sadly, they took them off the menu. The avocado toast at breakfast is one of the best I've had in Houston. All of the appetizers are always good: hummus plate, cheese board, garlic fries... they are all so good. The pizza is also very good they have such unique flavors such as fig and prosciutto pizza. This pizza changed my views on pizza ever since. Drinks are also so good and there is such a variety, you can also ask for specific things, matcha lemonade is not on the menu but it is so so refreshing. Coffee is also nice. Staff here are so friendly and they give your food in a timely manner. The outdoor seating is nice too. read more

I really enjoyed checking out this place! I got the dripped coffee, which includes one free refill. I absolutely loved it! The service was excellent and everyone was so nice and welcoming. The vibe inside is really cute and Boho. I ordered the Chilaquiles and it was really flavorful. I thought it could use a little bit more sauce but overall it was excellent! I will definitely be coming back to try other items on the menu, and even just to work or study for a few hours. read more

This was my absolute favorite coffee shop growing up. I've lived in Houston almost my whole life so I have been coming here for ions. It had been a while since I visited last but what is not to love? The coffee is good, they serve alcohol and food. The food is pretty good and the service is friendly and quick. They have an outdoor patio and plenty of seating inside. The outside patio is covered with plants and I just love that. read more

I came here recently for a dinner meeting. It was loud for a dinner mtg but not their fault. They should've picked a different spot. Anyhow, the food here is yums! I ordered the special, the Mediterranean Steak bowl. The food presentation was okay, but def could've been better. I thought the basil sprigs could've been cut in half due to how big they were. Also, I am not sure if this is how they intentionally cooked the rice, but I thought it was overcooked. The rice was clumpy as if it were cooked in a pot too small for the amount. I also feel the pickled carrots could've been sliced a bit thinner. The dish was very good. I didn't get to take a pic of my plate, but I took some to work the next day. I also had the house lemonade, which was bomb! Get it! plan on returning for the fig and prosciutto pizza. It looked divine (I sung that word to emphasize the look). read more
If you don't have reservations and are looking for a casual brunch spot with virtually no wait to get seated and for your meal to come out, this is the place! We were pleasantly surprised by our experience here, and the optionality on the menu was great... lots of choices to suit what you might be craving that morning. Second visit here this time had breakfast. The pancakes were so light I loved the whip cream with lemon zest was delicious. Not pictured but I had the pineapple upside down cake cocktail, amazing drink! The workers are so kind and personable I enjoyed our time there. Also the food comes out really quick, perfect breakfast/lunch spot for group meals. read more

Great spot for working, chilling, date night, or friends groups! Full service bar. Events are happening throughout the week. And monthly specials. The food and service were AWESOME! Me and my date for 2 dishes and split it and both the spaghetti bolognese and blackened salmon was so heart and stomach filling. (Sorry about the photos. The food is so good I forgot to take earlier pics) . The down side; no parking lot. Street parking available. I WILL DEFINITELY BE RETURNING!!! read more
