ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS!! Let this place die like it's trying to. Unfortunately we were in a pinch and staying in a hotel nearby so we had limited options. 1) Nobody in the place at 7:00 on a Friday should have been a sign. 2) Waiter never took our drink order. He asked our food order first. We had to ask him if we could get drinks first. 3) When we did order we watched our drinks sit at the end of the bar for 10 min until I had to go retrieve them myself. 4) The food was INCREDIBLY mid for it being that expensive. Undercooked potatoes, overcooked chicken, not a single person at the table of 4 adults had a good thing to say about their meal 5) It took 2 FREAKING HOURS with no one there. When I say no one I mean completely empty 6) Trying to check out and leave. Our server who was looking for an upsell told us he saw a cookie in the back that was ready to go. Thanks for telling our 3 small children that at 9:30. Reluctantly after telling him no several times it was awkward enough to cave. Cookie took about 20 minutes to come out. We had been there for over 2 hours at that point and we had to just get up and leave. What a cozy spot in midtown with plenty of outdoor seating. Everything on the menu grabbed my attention. I went with the shrimp & grits and was heavenly pleased. I visited District 7 yesterday (2/7) and ordered the "Full House," which comes with your choice of French toast, pancakes, or a waffle. I chose the pancakes. It also includes two eggs your way, apple smoked bacon or a sausage patty, and a side of country potatoes. I asked for my eggs boiled, but my waitress told me the kitchen said no because it "takes too long," so I ended up doubling up on the country potatoes instead. I received one piece of bacon and added an extra patty on the side. Service-wise, my waitress Ashley was not very accommodating, which didn't help the experience. Unfortunately, the food itself was not good. I also ordered the lump crab cake, and it was honestly awful. Overall, the experience was just okay. The best part of the visit was the time spent with my friends and the two mimosa carafes we ordered. Based on the food alone, this place has a lot of room for improvement. read more

We were driving by on our way to another brunch spot and loved the diner vibe so decided to give it a go and glad we did. The service was great but the food was next level. We split the Salmon Omelette and a side of waffles. The salmon was seasoned-not dry and the rest of the omelette had delicious onions, bell peppers and cheese and was topped with Avacado. Came here for lunch with some friends on a week day. It was a bit sad how dead it was since a lot of people work from home now. After browsing the rather extensive menu, I ordered the mahi mahi salad which is served on a bed of greens with jicama added. Asked the waitress for some shredded cheese because I love cheese in a salad, which the server happily obliged. The mahi was cooked very well, and the lemon vinaigrette complimented the salad nicely. We had some business to take care of in downtown so walked over to this restaurant for lunch today. Patty Melt - 3/5 - I ordered the patty melt and my wife ordered the Kobe burger. Both pretty much tasted the same. The bread was too thick and not the traditional rye. The steak fried were just okay as well. Kobe Burger - 3/5 - Just ok. No vegetables at all to speak of (other than grilled onions). Again, thought the bun was too thick for size of hamburger patty and other fillings. My wife "upgraded" to the truffle parmesan fries. Honestly I would have never picked District 7 to eat but that's what happens when I put someone else (non-yelper) in charge to pick the place when I'm down for whatever. Typical diner look and feel, I mean unsuspecting cool spot but not bourgie enough for me...I'd pass right by it. That being said the service was really good, they greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. I chose a table outside and didn't wait long for service. I ordered a frozen peach bellini large, but really I didn't think it was that big so idk what the regular looks like. The taste was good. My companion ordered the bloody mary, I think she liked that nasty a-- drink enough lol how do ppl drink this! Lol For entrees we ordered from the lite bites menu which are just smaller portions of selected regular menu offerings. I went with the paella. There's a bit of a wait for this dish but I was surprised it tasted fairly well. Not the best I've had but added a bit of Tabasco and I jived with it. It was raining so we stayed longer and after that half portion of food, I was still hungry so we ordered a side of steak fries. Came out super hot and fresh! Our server was pretty good, not overbearing but she did stay away a touch too long sometimes. Also, she properly dealt with another table that was complaining about the temp of their food so kudos to her. Wooowww I can't believe this place! This was the best food we had and all of Houston. It is in a tiny, metal, unassuming little restaurant on the side of the road. It looks like nothing from the outside, but when you go inside, it is the friendliest people ever. The waiter came over and had a full conversation with us, and we did not feel imposing or anything. While he was talking to us other people helps the other tables. They all worked together and all of the diners were having a great time. It's a very friendly place and the food is absolutely outstanding. We made substitutions and asked questions and they were very accommodating and helpful. We had a crab cake, chicken and waffles, and pancakes. They don't have a liquor license but they have a bunch of different drinks so we have a peach mimosa, Bellini, Moscow mule, and some other drinks. Totally recommend this place. I'm in Houston for a short business trip and the hotel I'm staying at recommended it. It was a short 1/2 mile away and worth the walk. It's a small and adorable rail car kinda diner, but without at crappy diner food. District 7 has a fun and unique twist on their food. There's plenty to choose from for breakfast, lunch, & dinner, and they even do brunch. I ordered the brussel sprouts almondine for an app and they were huge and super delicious! It totally made me re-think my dinner choice. Because I was dining alone and the app was so big, I needed a small protein. My server recommended a side of chicken and it was the perfect serving between the two. Service was top notch, excellent food and easily walkable in the downtown area. I wish I took a picture of the inside of the restaurant but it has a cute diner feel with bright yellow booth seating. Definitely a fun vibe. My family and I came here for brunch on Saturday so there was lots of indoor and outdoor seating, we chose outdoors since the weather is so nice however it's right next to the roads so it did get loud every now and then. The service here is excellent and the staff so kind. We loved that. I think we got unlucky on what we chose because our dishes were not the best. I had the paella which was made fresh but I have had better around the area. My hubs got the piccata and his was a little too salty. Definitely willing to try the food one more time since the reviews are so high but it missed the spot for us. read more

We had a late brunch here on a Saturday afternoon. The weather was warm, so we sat on the patio. The service was amazing. Our server was always on point. We had mimosas for drinks, but they were definitely more on the juicy side than the boozy side. Still delicious though. I had the "Midtown Bolognese" which was amazing! It looked and tasted good! First time at District 7 Grill and it was pretty good. We stopped in after visiting a wine bar nearby. We sat outside because it was a beautiful day out! For appetizers we ordered the spinach artichoke dip and it was delicious. The dip was served with warm pita chips. Entrees included: BLACKENED MAHI MAHI PICATTA w/ Fresh Spinach, Linguine, Blended Sauce of Capers, Pepperoncini's, Mushrooms and Lemon-Garlic; GRILLED SALMON w/ Roasted Pepper Sauce, Arugula, Avocado; and the MARGHERITA PIZZA w/ Shredded Mozzarella, Fresh Buffalo Mozzarella Lumps, Tomatoes, Fresh Basil, Red Sauce. My entree was the blackened mahi mahi pasta and it was soooooo good. It's a large portion so I had plenty to take home. I tasted the other entrees too and they were good. I have driven pass this location several times. I came with two others and a baby. It was incredibly windy and cold that day so sitting on the patio was not an option. This place is set up like a dinner and though we were able to fit a carrier onto a booth it was a very tight seating arrangement. The menu is pretty limited. I ordered the crab cake and eggs. Also at the table was the chicken and waffles. The mimosas appeared to be good with a variety of flavors. I also got turkey bacon on the side.... If I had to guess Oscar Meyer. We came on a Wednesday, so it was a fairly slow night, which I very much enjoyed. Our waiter was nice, patient, and quick.and the vibe and decor of this place is quaint, which I really liked. We had quite a few things. The crab cake appetizer was really good. It was uniquely made and flavored and served on a bed of salad (which to me tasted like tasty cabbage- that's what I thought it was until I was corrected). All of it mixed together was very tasty. I also enjoyed the spinach artichoke. The fried flat bread chips or whatever it came with was like pringles, once you pop you can't stop. We also had the hush puppies crab cakes, but I definitely was NOT a fan of these. The Bellini was very tasty and strong, but lol take my strong lightly, I am a light weight. A diner with a laid back feel but with a casual and slightly elevated menu. Visited District 7 for lunch. There were 6 in my party but we were seated right away. The food was delicious. I loved that brunch was still being served after 12. Most of my party ordered from that menu and it was very delicious. I went simple with a Belgian waffle. It was fluffy and topped with berries and dusted with powdered sugar. The service was great! My only complaint is when the food came out my waffles and potatoes were cold and not warm or hot. I was on a lunch break so I just sat and ate it because I didn't have time to send it back or ask for it to be warmed. In turn, they do offer a modest wine selection that includes Cabernet Sauvignon to Sangria. My specific food selection was an carte crab cake and the lamb chops. The presentations of both dishes were excellent, fresh and full of color. The crab cake was well portioned with a moderate level of crab meat and Cajun spice. It was presented on a bed of lettuce with a black pepper citrus-lemon vinaigrette. The lamb chops were presented as three petite lamb chops with a well done Mediterranean-Korean flavor. The side also included semi steamed asparagus. Both paired well with the dry white wine blend, giving balance to the acidity with moderate spices in both dishes.
