I can't believe it. It's been 10 years since I reviewed Grace's. I've probably been here 35 or 40 times since then. I bring family and friends here all the time along with business partners. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston, Texas. You will experience the best food and the best service here every single time! Today was the first time I decided to get some food to go. Bradley was an absolute professional. While I was leaving, Johnny Carrabba came out and talked to me for a second. What a nice guy. Full of natural charisma. Reminds me of an old wise guy from casino or Goodfellas. We had a great conversation. I told him how my grandmother was born in Bryan Texas in 1927. He told me about his family that migrated there in 1905. He also mentioned his family had a store on Canal Street. I had no idea. An exceptional person, a legend in the restaurant industry here in Houston, Texas. It was great to meet you today Johnny. Thank you for your professionalism and hospitality and also thank you for serving some of the best food in Houston, Texas! Food: as you can see from all my pictures of the food is simply amazing. This review is a little different because it is not about the food, which is what brought our party to Grace's after church today. Instead, it is about the way we were treated by the hospitality manager, Kryssalyn Bayne. Our party consisted of five people, including a 97-year-old senior citizen. When we arrived, four of the five members of our party were present, and there were no guests waiting to be seated. However, Ms. Bayne was focused solely on the fact that one member of our party had not yet arrived. She informed us that other guests had been seated because they had called ahead, although this option had never been communicated to us during any of our previous visits. What was most concerning was not the seating policy itself, but the manner in which we were treated. Ms. Bayne's demeanor was loud, confrontational, and, in our opinion, disrespectful. We had all just come from church and were simply trying to understand the restaurant's policy. When I politely suggested that she lower her voice, she responded by accusing me of speaking disrespectfully to her staff, despite the fact that I had not spoken to anyone other than her. Grace's has always been known for its hospitality, which made this experience especially disappointing. I believe the front-of-house staff, and particularly those in leadership positions, would benefit from additional training in customer service, de-escalation, and professional communication. Every guest deserves to be treated with courtesy and respect, regardless of the circumstances. Unfortunately, this interaction overshadowed what should have been a pleasant meal and family gathering. We were seated at Table 14 & served by Mr Lewis who was a breath of fresh air. The food was good despite the entry. read more

I finally made it to Grace's on Kirby and left with mixed feelings. The dining area is a little compact (not super small though) but it's not a quiet, romantic spot. The main highlight was the 5 star service by Eric! He's enough to make me want to go back! I'll definitely ask for him every time! 2nd highlight is that cornbread because whew...bussin. Pair it with the collard greens and that's a five-star combo all day. I was undecided on what to order, so I went with the cajun stuffed chicken exactly as it comes, along with mac & cheese and collard greens. The meal wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. The chicken, I'd probably skip next time, I took most to go and it went bad cause I couldn't do it. Mac wasn't anything to write home about either but again, them greens and cornbread are absolutely getting reordered. My friend ordered the key lime pie and enjoyed it, so that seemed to be another solid choice. But back to the real MVP of the visit which was our server, Eric. He made menu suggestions without being pushy, kept my glass full the entire meal, was kind, patient, and anticipated what we needed before we even had to ask. That level of service is becoming harder to find, and it definitely elevated the experience. My friend recommended Grace's for our weekly eating out routine. This was my first time here. I searched on Google and found the price range. I thought it has to be a fancy restaurant to begin with. I forgot to check the menu. For being vegetarian, this restaurant is lacking dishes for me. Not a single vegan option on the menu, sad. Not sure why Yelp says there is. I ordered a large Caesar Salad. It came drenched with cheese. It looked ridiculous and tasted extremely salty. If I said no cheese, this dish would have been just a plate of romaine lettuce with 6 crotons. What a sad feeling. My friend ordered a stuffed chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens. He seemed enjoying it. The waiter was overly friendly and he kept pouring water into our glasses. He first warned us about the cornbread as second one will not be free. Heck. We barely touched it. It was too sweet for me and it has cheese. The crusty bottom seemed the only tasty part. Sigh. That was a no-go. The service was pretty good from entering to exiting. We came in pushing my friend on his wheelchair. Two employees already holding the doors open for us. Everyone was smiling and welcoming us. The hostess was a little overly enthusiastic. It kind of put me off. After reading the story and driving around to see the family restaurants, Mia's and Carrabba's, just around the corners. This is home cooking elevated while keeping true to its roots. I had pot roast with a twist, pork rather than the beef I'm accustomed to but it was so tender you didn't need a fork. Had a cup of gumbo too, just fabulous. Others at the table had fried chicken, chicken fried chicken, beef stroganoff and a variety of other dishes. Everyone left with smiles. Went for my bday brunch on a Sunday with friends and family. Did a reservation on OpenTable and was only able to book the patio. The weather was good so it was ok. Actually, I'm happy we sat outside because the inside was so crowded and packed. Our server was really good, but they did forget our drink order- iced coffee and my sister mimosa. The shrimp and grits had good flavor with a small kick to it. The cornbread they give you at the beginning is very tasty! Everyone liked there food so no complaints. The waffles (5/10) - were very ordinary & a bit dense. Our entire table (even the waffle lovers) said hands down the pancakes are superior. Eggs (8/10)- scrambled soft & actually well seasoned for eggs! Crab cake (8/10) - good amount of crab not filler, well balanced old bay seasoned. Tip: you can sub 1 pancake for the waffles in the chicken & waffle order. Note: the pancakes are a la carte so the eggs, bacon/sausage and potatoes are all separate at ~$6 or $7 each. Grace's has consistently provided highly quality meals for both brunch and dinner over several visits. The team of servers were outstanding with their check-ins without being a nuisance. All were very friendly and quick to respond to any requests. As always, Sunday brunch is a crowded affair but our reservation was honored immediately. Our group of six was very happy with our meals and each of us shared our dishes. I had the chicken and waffles and the chicken easily earned five stars. It has been a while since I last ate at Grace's. We made a reservation for 5, and were sat outside... Luckily it wasn't terribly hot today, but I do prefer being sat inside. Grace's does get pretty busy during lunch time. We started off with the baked potato dip. If you like chips and queso, you'll love this. I honestly think all restaurants should start serving potato chips with their dips instead of tortilla chips. Total game changer. We also had the sweet & sour calamari and shrimp. I was a bit skeptical when it first came out because of how it looked. I never had noodles with calamari before, but it paired so well with the sweet & sour sauce. I think this is one of the better calamari dishes I've had in Houston. I usually have the cornbread here, but didn't this time. I highly recommend trying it for your first time. As for my entree, I ordered the creole stuffed chicken. I didn't really care for the collard greens. I liked the mac & cheese, but I wish I had rice because the chicken dish is a bit too salty for my liking. I could only finish half of one of the pieces. There's plenty of crawfish. Overall, it's just a very heavy meal. I probably wouldn't order this for lunch again because I can't imagine anybody finishing it and completing any work after. I chugged my water lol. Dined in for Houston Restaurant Week and everything was great. Graces is a Houston staple located in the Kirby area. We waited about 15 minutes for a table after our reservation time. Our server- Lakayla was very sweet and informative. I ordered the stuffed chicken served with mac and cheese and greens. Entrees include a soup or salad so there is a great bang for your buck. Everything was amazing. The complimentary cornbread is warm and sweet. For the table, we split their frozen pomegranate mimosa pitcher- which gave us about three drinks a piece. Gratuity is already included in the final bill for all tables. While the restaurant was busy- it was not too loud and allowed space for conversation. I came to this restaurant for the first time on a Sunday, around 4:30pm for a drink before going to our second destination. We sat at the bar. The bar area was small and intimate. They had booth seating along the wall and a few tables between the bar and booths. There were tv's at the bar to watch sports. My friend and I only looked at the drink menu, but everyone's meals around us looked good. I ordered the frozen mimosa, which was orange juice and champagne. It was good and strong, but had a bitter after taste. My friend had the old fashioned and she said, "it was really good." This restaurant is definitely family friendly, spacious, and popular. There is usually a wait for inside, but you may be seated faster if opting for the outside patio area. I'm a bit disappointed with the accessibility. In order for me to get to our table, I had to leave my walker and use my canes. ‍ Even with this, several patrons had to scoot up or move around for me to get through. For someone in a wheelchair would have a hard time. I'd suggest wait for edge seating which would be better. Outside of this, the food is really good. I enjoyed my entree, but got full quick. Nothing like a good old doggie bag. I'll have to return again to review the patio seating. Which I might opt for. Service was great! They were attentive and apologized for the accessibility issues. The only picture I got was the aftermath, and baby... that plate was CLEAN. Empty. Gone. I've been thinking about Grace's ever since I left. Everything was seasoned perfectly and so satisfying. I had a very disappointing experience at Grace's today. I brought my 97 year old mother for lunch, and unfortunately the hostess staff was inconsistent with reservations and came across as unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful. I have been a loyal customer of Grace's since it opened and have frequented many of the Johnny Carrabba restaurants over the years. I also have clients who relocate to Houston, and Grace's has been one of the restaurants I have confidently recommended and brought visitors to experience. Over the last two to three months, however, I have noticed a significant change. The inconsistency in how reservations and table seating are managed is awkward and frustrating. During today's visit, the hostess spoke so loudly and with such an unpleasant tone that it was difficult to understand what she was saying. I could only hear the tone of her voice, which made the interaction feel uncomfortable and disrespectful. I was also surprised to see a child assisting with seating guests. If she is part of the staff, that is certainly management's decision, but it added to the confusion and unprofessional atmosphere of our experience. I do want to commend our waiter, who was excellent, and the food was very good. Unfortunately, the service we received at the front of the restaurant overshadowed an otherwise enjoyable meal. As someone who has supported Grace's for many years and recommended it to countless friends and clients, I can no longer do so after today's experience. I sincerely hope management addresses these concerns and restores the welcoming, professional environment that made Grace's a favorite destination for so many years. read more

The restrooms were clean and well stocked. Allen was at our table appropriately and when we needed him. I ordered the Cajun Stuffed Chicken and it was awesome. Presentation and food temperature was impeccable. My wife and daughter ordered the Salmon Special med rare, and it was cooked to perfection. We ordered bread pudding to go. Our portions were so large we had to take part of our entrees home with us. Allen bagged our leftovers for us. It's been awhile since we have dined here. We are not on this side of town a lot.
