My husband and I went here for our 12-year wedding anniversary on a Saturday night. We made reservations ahead of time. Parking ended up being easier than expected--street parking was free after 6 and we found a spot pretty quickly. We asked for a booth, but they told us the only one available was still occupied. Good portion, good flavor. My husband got the cowboy steak (medium), and we shared the gratin potatoes and creamy spinach. Both sides were also around a 7/10--solid, good portions, well-seasoned. The only thing was I think our steaks' doneness might've been switched. Mine came out medium and his was more medium rare. We told our server and we just ate it anyway, it was still good. Kudos to HOU Yelp for pointing us to Granger's. We were seeking a venue close to our hotel for cocktails and some lite bites before our evening event and Granger's was perfect. We arrived to an empty restaurant and bar area, which is AOK for an afternoon cocktail and some bites! We sat at the bar and our bartender was beyond friendly and we had a number of great conversations during our visit. Do check out their menu as they offer everything from fresh seafood to steaks and pork chops. There is also a wonderful wine menu and some interesting craft cocktails. I ordered their Old (Fashioned) Granger that is made with Buffalo Trace. I've had some bad OFs such as too much bitters but this one was perfectly balanced. Ditto with Plus 1s Paloma another perfectly balanced cocktail; not to bitter or sweet. We took a flyer on the beef carpaccio and it was sliced perfectly thin and accompanied with aged parmesan, capers, and dijon aioli. Then we went 180 degrees and ordered the crispy squid. I was assured that it would not arrive very crispy (shoe leather). The squid was perfectly fried tender and the sweet chili sauce was excellent for dipping. Showed up without a resy, and was seated immediately. Only a few tables occupied. Parking- they have valet for a set amount I think $15 or $10, I cant exactly recall. But my friends and I came on a Sunday so street parking was free down the street. There is a meter Mon- Sat for street parking though. The medical building the business is connected to has a parking garage, I assume an hourly rate. The place is nicely decorated for Christmas upon my visit. Service- Issac was our server and he was training another server Henry who had a beautiful smile. They provided fast efficient service. Always filling our waters, and getting new silverware for us when we had a new dish. Our server said they had only been open 1 year. Food- we shared the crab hush puppies, which is there popular dish. That sauce was chefs kiss. I ordered the gulf snapper with shrimp $55. I subbed out the rice it comes with for a cesar salad, but I think they charged me for it? I figured it would be an even exchange of items but I guess not? Comes with asparagus and zucchini, only 2 shrimp though. It's a filling entree. My friend got eggs benedict without meat. And my other friend got the seared scallops- grilled nicely but too salty for her. I tried one, it was a touch salty but not terrible. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, I especially loved the dim lighting and the ambiance. Opened on Labor Day! Surprisingly not packed during lunch time. Started off with a mocktail which was the Pink Paloma (tarte and refreshing). For apps, we ordered some Parmesan Truffle Fries (crispy and you can deff taste the truffle flavor) and a dozen of the East Coast Gulf Oysters (pretty fresh). For my main, I got the Pan Seared Scallops (+ lemon butter, balsalmic glaze, mushroom risotto, grilled asparagus). Scallops were cooked nicely and well. Well that was the best restaurant decision I have made so far. First of all the restaurant is so pretty. This is a beautiful restaurant. We were greeted with Champagne when we arrived and I thought that was nice. We were seated and the waiter came over to take our order. We ordered calamari for started and for our main course we had a fish and rice dish and I had the salmon and linguine pasta. Normally I don't get pasta when I go to restaurants but I am so glad I did because it was so delish! For drinks we kept it simple with water. But dessert was out of this world. I honestly thought the food was pretty good! I had the scampi. The shrimp were huge and well seasoned. I thought breading the shrimp was unique for scampi. The pasta has a good flavor and was not overwhelmingly lemon flavored though you can clearly taste the lemon. I don't think the dish is worth $35 however, but it was good. The service was not bad. The team was nice and helpful. I came in with a piece of luggage because I had to leave town immediately after dinner and they held my bag for me with no problem! I missed the champagne greeting that they normally do because of that but I did see the other members of my party were able to get theirs. The service was noticeably slow. It took over an hour to receive our food. We had a larger party but the restaurant was pretty empty so I was a little surprised by that. The manager knew how long it would take I guess and offered to take pictures for us while we waited. A for effort lol. The restaurant is beautiful! Chic yet cozy. Walls of champagne in the back and designed like a classy living room with a lit fireplace. The bar is gorgeous. Even the bathroom was super nice and had lounge chairs in it. There's a covered patio as well. Heads up: due to the building sitting in the med center, there are certain restrictions that prevent them from lighting candles (if you're celebrating anything) and it's also pretty warm in the building. Granger's is located in the Museum District, just north of Hermann Park. Parking is a bit tricky in this area; the immediately adjacent streets have meters and free parking may require a short walk. There is exterior seating and the interior comes off very similar to some of the recent trend in decor for the more casual fine dining spots. The menu is mostly American cuisine; your steaks, seafood options, etc etc. Service was full service and although our waitress seemed very new to the role, she was very attentive. Appetizer wise, we ordered some crab hush puppies (4/5), cauliflower hummus (3/5), and oysters Rockefeller (4/5). The hummus was a bit bland and the oysters definitely could've been more well seasoned but overall pretty tasty. I got the 8 oz Akaushi wagyu NY strip with a side of the wild mushroom risotto. The steak was ordered rare and was cooked closer to a medium, which was fine. I think it made the cut slightly more chewy than planned. The risotto was a bit short on mushroom flavor but was fine. Overall it seems like definitely some solid choices especially on the appetizers. Will try another entree next visit outside of their steak options. read more
