Cocktail between the sheets

This may be my new favorite happy hour spot. This speakeasy is located inside of norigami sushi. I'd describe the vibe as on point lol. The food and drinks were all really tasty. We tried the shrimp, wagyu and pork belly skewers and the bluefin crudo. My favorite was the wagyu but they were all awesome. The bartenders were super friendly and really knew about the drinks.

I don't know how I feel about Hidden Bar. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but the vibe was off. The bartender offered us free drinks to move to the bar instead of sitting on the comfy couch we had already claimed (weird). And then... the drinks weren't even free (more weird). It was a good drink, though, hence the 3 stars. It was extremely loud in there and there were bunches of folks getting sloppy. I would give this place another shot.

Visited on a Wednesday night and it took 45 minutes to receive my drink, and it was the wrong drink. Staff never checked in on us during the long wait and also said the incorrectly served drink would be free, but still charged for it

We came by after having dinner at the restaurant (Norigami). The drinks are delicious & the menu offered is the same as in the restaurant. It's louder though bc of the music. Kitchen closes at 10:45. They also have a happy hour from 3-6 pm Tue-Fri & all day Sun & Mon. The ceiling is amazing.. completely covered in paper cranes!

What a cool speakeasy!! The ambiance is fun and it was well decorated for Valentine's Day. The ceiling is covered in hanging origami cranes, which was so cool. The service was also pretty good. We were checked on often and helped with selections. All drinks were good except the Thai chili ginger margarita. It didn't taste like ginger at all and was extremely sour. Painkiller was delicious, as was the espresso martini and the Yamaneko

Small bar with awesome drinks, ambience and almost a "club" vibe. The DJ is awesome. The bartenders are also fun and upbeat. Drinks are moderately priced and soooo well made. Loved the concept of all the origami floating above the bar and the pretty feminine flowers also in the sitting area. This bar can probably seat 25 ppl comfortably so grab a seat when possible. Me and my friend had so much fun and would be back!

Why this place doesn't have more reviews is beyond me. It's hopp'n. And it's not that hidden. Which I somewhat appreciate because I can come here whenever I'm solo but also, I think they can amp up their prestige by making it harder to get into. Hamachi crudo - phenomenal. Perfectly sliced and the flavors are amazing. A bit pricey but .. it's solid! Wished I was a bit more hungry and had a bigger wallet so I could try more. Drinks: Everything I was looking for in a cocktail - Flavors that you simple just can't make at home. Come. You won't be disappointed. Service from Brandon, Paul, Andrew, Thomas, and Ken were top notch. Would love to meet the brains behind these cocktails - Hao. PS. Is anyone even Japanese here? It was bomb. Doesn't matter. Bathroom has a remote. Push the button that says flush. It's not that hard.

Lychee Martini & Nice to Matcha

came here on Friday night around 8pm, & the vibes were great! The DJ was so amazing and had all the vibes going. A little bit of the popular Afrobeats and R&B/soul and old R&B vibes going, and played some songs from Renaissance by Beyonce I was in music heaven because I am a sucker for a good playlist. The lychee martini was good but not strong so I decided to go for a vesper martini for my second round which was obviously more liquor. I was very comfortable with my friend and we had a great time! This is such a lovely and intimate speakeasy and I love that parking is so easy! Can't wait to return

Beautiful origami everywhere

One thing about me, I love a good speakeasy. I did not know this place even existed until we were looking for a cocktail bar while in the area. The name is very fitting as it is hidden beind a door that blends into the wall of the Japanese restaurant Norigami. It is located in a shopping strip in West U so parking was pretty plentiful when we arrived in the evening. Their website states no reservations are needed for Hidden Bar, but when we walked into Norigami, they did ask if we had one. When we stated we didn't have one, they said no problem and lead us through the hidden door. What we walked into was small, but beautiful space with dim lighting and different origami covering every inch of the ceiling. There was also a dedicated, closed off glass case with a wall of expensive champagne as well. Seating is pretty limited with some seating at the bar and some seating off to the side. If you're rolling in deep, you might have a hard time finding seats together. We came at the right time and were able to find some seating easily. You can either order at the bar or order with a server. Customer service was excellent. We knew coming in we were going to be in and out so we made that one drink count. We studied the pretty extensive menu twice over to make the right decision. They have their own specialty cocktails along with the classics. They also have a pretty nice list sake, beer, wine, mocktails and different spirits. The drink that stood out to me was the Periscope. It was gin drink with elderflower, lemon, lime and egg whites. This drink was not only pretty to look at, but it was absolutely delicious. All the flavors worked in perfect harmony and the egg whites gave it this nice, velvety mouth feel. It was also very refreshing. All my friends got a variety of drinks that all had completely different looks and tastes. I tried every drink and they were all just as good as mine. I was kind of sad that we had to take off so quick because this place was a whole vibe. The music was on point and the drinks were delicious. The bathrooms are a trip to with mirrored doors and fancy toilets that have a remote. I'll be back for all of it sooner rather than later.

Hidden Bar has got the vibes but the service was lacking. The bar is located inside of Origami restaurant through an unmarked door panel just to the right as you walk in. Upon entering the bar, guests are immersed in a sexy, sophisticated cocktail lounge with low lighting, and a canopy of dedicate paper cranes on the ceiling. There's several small tables and also a number of spots at the bar. Thursday evenings starting at 9pm is reverse happy hour with a DJ, $9 cocktails and 25% off sake and wine. I checked my receipt and unfortunately this special was not applied. Maybe because of this special or perhaps the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, the bar was quite busy when we arrived. We found a spot to stand at the bar to place our drink order and began to wait. And wait. And wait. 45 minutes later one of the bartenders finally took our order. Once our order was in, you guessed it, it took even longer to get our drinks. We almost got to the point of just walking out. On this night there were only two bartenders and a bar back. I noticed that one of the bartenders really struggled to move quickly, struggling to prepare garnishes and to remember which cup was which when preparing multiple drinks at the same time. There were also multiple times that the bartender had to leave from behind the bar to walk drinks over to people at tables. Hidden Bar does have food options on their menu which seem to come from the Origami side and likewise, it seems like Origami guests can order cocktails that come from Hidden Bar. They might want to reconsider this as it diminishes the exclusivity of each business and reduces the efficiency of their staff on each side. I would also suggest that they consider adding a third bartender and a waitress to assist with taking drinks to tables rather than have the bartender take on this responsibility. They might be able to take a few other steps to help their bartenders handle high order volumes like prepare garnishes in advance. In the end, the drinks were good but the service was just such a let down.

Loved the Hidden bar! They have the best drinks, music and vibes. The bartenders were very nice and accommodating. The atmosphere is nice for an after dinner drink or a small group night out. 10/10

I finally got a chance to order the food: The Uni (hokkaido) and it was delicious!!! They also offer Santa Baraba Uni, so we got the opportunity to choose. I think it was 2 pieces of nigiri per order and we thoroughly enjoyed. And as always, the drinks were phenomenal.

We were out to dinner in Rice Village looking for a fun night cap when we saw Hidden Bar on Apple Maps. It's hidden inside of Noragami restaurant. It was poppin for a Thursday night and the DJ was playing great tunes! Cocktails were tasty and we ordered very generous caviar bumps. We took a few bartender recommended shots that were delicious. The bartenders were so nice and had great taste. I will absolutely be back for another night here. Great time. I can attest that you can leave your car overnight in their parking lot if you have too good of a time

I thought that the catch 22 ( mocktail) would be too sweet or vinegar forward but it was tangy and light. My husband actually said he liked my mocktail more than he liked his cocktail which was good but a bit sweeter than he likes. The second mocktail I ordered was off the menu. I asked for something tropical and not too sweet. It was pretty good but not as complex as the catch 22. My husband liked the jaded merchant better than the dew drop. He also was sipping far too much of my mocktail which speaks volumes about how good it was. Love the moody vibes, drinks, and service. I've only visited three times but should make it one of the places we come to more often.

So we walked on over to this little speakeasy and were immediately greeted by the bouncer. On a Thursday night, it was quite crowded, but were able to find the last remaining seats at the bar. We were seated at the left end of the bar, which was nice because we had our own little "nook" away from the rest of the bar. Adjacent to us was the server station - the one server tending to the tables, Marilyn, frequently came by and we immediately befriended her. She gave us excellent recommendations and provided her opinion on several drinks. Robin was the bartender who took care of us throughout the night. She was super friendly from the moment we sat down and gave us stellar recommendations on food and drinks. She was happy to tweak a couple of their seasonal drinks to our liking, and even offered to mix other drinks that weren't on the menu. Fantastic service from Robin throughout the night. I started out with Tommy's Margarita - this was just their take on a classic margarita, nothing super special. I then ordered the Oaxacan Old Fashioned - think of an old fashioned made with tequila and mezcal in lieu of bourbon. I was a bit cautious about this one since I am not a fan of mezcal, however the smoky flavor was not very apparent in this one, which was a huge plus! I also got the Ardilla - very unique drink made with mexican corn whiskey, cocoa nibs, sherry, and a milk punch. I award this drink for most unique I've had in a while, definitely give it a try if you're up for something new. To finish, I had the Cariña - their take on an espresso martini made with reposado tequila. I really liked this espresso martini - it was a great way to finish out the night and I left feeling inspired to make my espresso martinis at home using tequila now! With the little room we had left in our stomachs, we tried the Pato Tinga Memela, which was duck leg (no bone) with beans and onions and cilantro atop a memela. I haven't had memela specifically per se, but consider me a fan. It is basically a mini "cake" of masa that is pan fried to a slight crispiness. An Oaxacan speciality, where else can I find these in Houston!? We also tried the Guacamole y Tostadas. The guacamole was unique in the sense that it was Oaxacan style, so contains pepitas, pickled onions, and queso fresco. The tostadas were super crispy and reminded me of how they serve guacamole in Mexico (rather than with chips/totopos). Fun fact is that this bar is owned by Goode Company. Next door to this is Goode Co. Cantina, so it's nice that they created an adjoining restaurant + speakeasy concept within the same strip. At one point in our visit, Levi Goode was standing next to us. We didn't know until after he left and Marilyn informed us, that that was THE man. Just doing a casual check-in of his bar. We really had a good experience at Bar Buena and look forward to returning. The food menu has quite a few offerings I wanted to try had I not come from a cooking class. We were also told that the seasonal drink menu was set to change shortly after our visit, so I look forward to trying these drinks!

Party of 8 was seated right away with no hassle. We ordered a mimosa tower for $50, which came out to about 2 mimosas per person, and hookah for $20. The DJ was genuinely interactive the whole time -- kept our energy up to the point where we ended up inviting more friends out to join us mid-visit. That's the mark of a good time. Now the food -- almost an afterthought with how much fun we were having, but it delivered. I got the Five Central breakfast, which is a mountain of food. Easily 4 eggs, plus all the fixings. My friend ordered the lobster and grits and it was so good I immediately had order envy. That's my order next time, no debate. The space is visually striking, layered, and honestly just a cool place to sit, soak it in, and be part of the scene. It feels like something Anthony Bourdain would've paused to appreciate that raw, curated vibe that promises more than just a meal. We ordered a spread: chicken wraps, fried chicken, a couple of Ketel One drinks, and finished things off with red velvet cake and bread pudding. On paper, it reads like a lineup that should hit. In reality, it landed somewhere in the middle. Nothing was bad but nothing really sang either. The fried chicken had the right idea but didn't quite deliver that crave-worthy punch. The wraps were fine, the desserts decent, and the drinks did their job. It all felt... acceptable. Like the kitchen understood the assignment but didn't fully commit to it. What stood out most was the contrast the menu is ambitious, the atmosphere pulls you in, but the food doesn't quite translate that same energy to the plate. It's the kind of place you want to love more than you actually do. That said, it's still a solid spot to check out, especially for the vibe and the experience. Just don't walk in expecting fireworks think more along the lines of a slow burn. Overall, I'd call it a decent restaurant that leans more on its aesthetic than its execution.
