If you want overpriced cute drinks and a vibe, this is the place to go. I came to De Fortune with my cousins for a little girls' night, and the aesthetic and ambiance are definitely the highlight. It's cute, moody, and has that feeling like you're not even in Houston anymore. It's not a big space, so it does get pretty loud between the music and everyone talking. The music was just okay. If you like house music, you'll probably enjoy it here. The DJ did mix in some popular hip-hop, R&B, and reggaeton songs throughout the night, which I appreciated. We started with shots that were really good. They tasted almost like a shot of honey, but unfortunately I can't remember the name. We all ordered the Dolce Limone next, which was sweet and refreshing. For the next round, my cousin got the Mango something, and I ordered the French Connection. The French Connection was awful. It tasted like straight-up cough syrup, and I couldn't even pretend to finish it. Our last round was Palomas, and those were good. In between drinks, we ordered the meat and cheese board. It was cute and made for a nice little snack, but there was nothing particularly special about the selection. The waitresses were nice, and overall we had a good time. I genuinely don't have much bad to say about the place other than the drinks. They're not bad across the board, but they're also nothing particularly special, especially for the price. Stopped in after a night at Mexican Sugar and Flight Club. Its a very cute little spot. The music was good and the Architecture is so cute but it's very small and the bar tender seemed annoyed he had to talk to me or my husband. He took our drink orders and only came back to collect payment. We both got one drink and left. Our bill was over $50. The place was cute, the drinks were just ok, and the bill wasn't worth it. Went on a Tuesday for happy hour and really appreciated that it runs until 7pm so that's a big plus. Drinks were $10 during HH, which felt reasonable. The place was surprisingly empty, but the waitress was very attentive and friendly. The space itself is super cute and aesthetic, definitely a nice vibe for photos or a casual hangout. Only downside was parking. The garage costs $10, and while there's a QR code posted at the entrance, I had already paid for metered parking by the time I saw it, which made it feel a bit pointless. Amazing. Loved it. Mexican Sugar closed and my girlfriend and I needed to find a place to talk. We initially sat in the car chatting away and to our surprise, we saw a couple people try the door and it opened. It was a Thursday and it looked vacant and closed from the outside... but don't be fooled it's open until 2am and it was such a vibe inside. I guess this place is still a well-kept secret on the week days because only one other table was there. The music is electronic dance/house. It's dim, intimate, aesthetic - the ambiance is amazing. Perfect place for a date or girls night. The drinks were not over the top expensive, and the servers were attentive. I'm sad to report that this place is not the answer. We went on a Friday evening to see one of our favorite House music DJs, DJ Nimbus. We came after happy hour and they had a pretty steady crowd, but we were able to find two seats. It is a very small space. I will say that the doorman and the bar manager were very nice , especially the bar manager. He was very communicative and friendly. Where the cons come in at is with the bartender. This is a very important part of a cocktail bar business so I was in hopes that they would get this right. I didn't get his name, but he was very off putting, he had a pompous attitude and just wasn't friendly. My little itty-bitty drink that you see in the picture was $20. It was a Gibson Martini Five to one pour and very boring and bland in taste. It did not come with my onion, I had to ask for it and it was just way overpriced for what it was. My husband ordered a regular slightly dirty martini ($20) no olive and no taste. We then got a standard Espresso martini & again boring and lacked flavor. It almost tasted like everything was watered down. The area is cute with other establishments, It was easy for us to find parking so that was a plus, but I doubt that we'd ever go back here not even for happy hour. read more

No one greeted us and menus were placed in front of us without uttering a single word. Great ambiance to catch up with a small group of friends as it's not too noisy in here (at least during the daytime - not sure how it's here at night). Stopped by for happy hour around 6pm on Friday evening before a 7 o'clock dinner reservation. The bar was empty when we arrived so no issues getting a table. The guys working there were all very friendly and we quickly placed our drink order. 2 neat tequilas, a Negroni and an English rose. The drinks did take kind of a while given that we were the only occupied table. The Negroni was well made and my husband liked the English rose but noted that it was on the sweet side. They have happy hour most days but not sure of the time, I believe 5-7 but would double check. Service was okay, but the vibe was so good including the music. As a resident of the building that De Fortune sits in I'm appalled by the way they've decided to conduct business in Regent Square. As excited as I was for this place to open, it's CLEAR they are focused on only a certain demographic enjoying the establishment and discriminating against "certain" folks. (If you catch my drift). For instance my friend and I were going to stop in for a quick drink and because he had on sneakers he was made to go elsewhere (Georgia James - which is actually more upscale) meanwhile someone else who was a non-person of color came in with sneakers and was allowed in. To make matters worse the owners are also of color! I have had no problem myself getting into this establishment FYI buttttt... I will say that the owner only spoke to my friend and I when we ordered a bottle of Caymus (for context - there were maybe 10 people in there and he could've spoken to/checked on all of us). The bartender was not nice nor accommodating when we sat down. When we first arrived we ordered Caymus by the glass - $25-30 per glass - first he did not he serve us a fresh glass of Caymus until we told him it wasn't fresh, then when he finally opened a new bottled he gave me a very small pour and my friend had more than me, I asked him if he could fill mine up to where he filled my friends and instead of obliging he looked at me as if I was speaking a different language. Because of this we ended up saying F it and ordering the bottle. The glassware is cheap, not that of a luxury establishment with pricey cocktails. The drinks were okay. You're better off going down the road to Melrose or Clarkwood. The ambiance and decor was nice but it felt very copy and paste to what's already existing in Houston. Do better! We know what it means when you put a sign in front of the door displaying the "dress code". The setting is very swanky, although a little intimidating to enter. It was pretty dead when we arrived, and the music was moderate, making conversation possible but not easy. The drinks we good, but not outstanding. The biggest rub was the unethical practices around tips. The standard practice of this establishment appears to be not to provide an itemized receipt BEFORE paying -- printed or displayed on the payment terminal. This is critical because they include, but do not disclose (anywhere to my knowledge), a 20% gratuity on the bill until you get the receipt AFTER paying. The server (of course) did not inform us that the tip was already included (why would she, even if they are supposed to, it's a predictable surprise that conformity is low). Unless you've been keeping track of charges and doing the math in your head, you have no way of knowing you're already paying the tip when the terminal asks how much gratuity to leave. Importantly, the terminal did not indicate when it asked for a gratuity that this was actually an additional tip on top of 20 percent. This is a shameless practice that makes me wonder what else the bar is doing unethically, read more
