Bar Madonna is absolutely darling! It's inside a boutique hotel in Montrose that's in a beautiful old house. Seriously, it's so charming, and you feel like you're in someone's gorgeous house. The bar was great--our group ordered cocktails and wine and enjoyed them all. We also ordered some snacks--sourdough bread, charcuterie, potato chips, and a sour cream dip--and all were great, especially the potato chips. Service was excellent--very nice, helpful, and friendly. We asked the hostess to take our picture as we were leaving, and she was very kind and told us the best spot for a photo. read more

Okay! What a cute bar inside of a quaint hotel tucked a few blocks off Westheimer. I arrived just as it was turning dusk to dark and the bar had such a cozy "sit and stay a while" vibe. It was decently packed with every other table full. The cocktail list was polished and I loved both drinks I tried! We did order the bourbon sausages and for $16, feel like these really missed the mark as a bar snack. Overall I'd highly recommend for a small group of 2-4 catch up. We came in on a sun afternoon without reservation after a show at alley theatre and were seated immediately. We had dinner plans after so only got the Southeastern and wild ouest drinks with French onion dip. Drinks and food were excellent. I brought my mother here to celebrate Mother's Day and we were met by jazz as we entered the building from a very talented group on the lawn. You can find it nestled inside the historic 1900's built house turned 9 room inn, the Marlene. Ambiance: 5/5 Fully enjoyed the architecture and all the decor found throughout the place. The charm and attention to details was on full display upon walking up and walking throughout the place. With outdoor and indoor seating, it spaciously spaced out so people aren't on top of each other. Parking is mostly street but valet is also available for $7, which I opted for as street parking seemed minimal at the time I arrived. The valet was super friendly and attentive, we chatted for a good bit before and after my visit. Learned from him when the busier days were. (Thursday-Sunday) Service: 3/5 While I was greeted, the host likely needs back up because she went to show someone their room and people were waiting behind me, even to step into the bar you have to check with the hostess to make sure there is seating available as they don't take reservations, only walk ins. Once she left we stood there for a bit, bartender happened to walk by and just let us know someone will be with us shortly. Once seated at the bar, bartender greeted again and that's where the welcome ended. Got served water as I looked over the drink menu. Food (drinks): 4/5 The drinks were made with care and tasted fine, but nothing that really stood out to set it apart from a bar that has specialty drinks for less or an experience that you want to return to. Pimm's Cup - simple and herbal. Nothing to write home about. Southeastern - it was a refreshing gin based cucumber, hot honey and bitters drink. Bar Madonna: a beautiful, intimate bar in the heart of Houston. Several friends and I were excited to try Bar Madonna inside the Hotel Marlene when we heard there was a bar that honored Mary. We decided to make it a girls evening and were able to make our visit on a Monday evening. Due to its location, it is good to know ahead of time that parking is street parking only, which is not hard to navigate or find once you arrive. When you arrive, it is almost easy to miss because the hotel blends in so well in the neighborhood. If you look carefully, you will see the name "Hotel Marlene" in tiles on the stairs letting you know you are in the right place. On the patio, there is also several rocking chairs and a swinging bench, adding to the intimate vibe of the restaurant. Great for a date night! I was greeted upon entering the hotel/bar and my friends were already at a table. They don't take reservations, but on a Monday night our table for 6 was seamless to obtain. It is a small bar, but the tables aren't stacked on top of each other so there is still plenty of room. And we loved the decor! We all tried different drinks and enjoyed them. Several were more liquor forward than others according to the group. I enjoyed the Southeastern and Yellow; the Southeastern was described as the most popular (light, floral and not too sweet), while the Yellow was described as one that might give you a slight lemon face (only a slight kick as an aftertaste, not bad at all). We also enjoyed some chips and olives. Our waiter and all staff were helpful and pleasant. We had a great Monday night out at Bar Madonna and I would recommend for date night or another intimate event. read more

To my surprise, Thomas, the owner, personally reached out, gave me his number, and invited me back to experience the bar properly even offering the first round on them. That gesture alone spoke volumes about how much he cares about his guests, so yesterday my husband and I decided to give it another try. This time, the experience couldn't have been more different. The hostess was super sweet and welcoming, and we sat at the bar where Max, our bartender, absolutely made the night. Extremely cute atmosphere. I found this place from TikTok. My husband and I came here for drinks before dinner. We got there around 5:15pm. We sat in the green room. Service less than expected. We ordered our drinks and received them a few minutes later, however, our waiter never came back to our table after that. We would have liked another drink. We sat without water or drinks for a good 30min. When finally did come to our table I was kind of ticked off and just asked for the check. I'd like to come back and give it another try.
