    Aki Fall highball
    Brian T.

We came here on a whim after dinner nearby in the same Autry Park area. The manager of that restaurant highly recommended that we check out Bar Doko and given that we had never heard of it, we figured why not!? We walked in without a reservation around 9:30pm and the place, while small, only appeared to be at about half capacity. We were turned away and told that they were "booked on reservations" until 11:30pm. This was slightly confusing but we still wanted to keep the option open, so we went over to Doko across the way and enjoyed drinks and sushi. We were able to talk to GM Alejandra about getting into Bar Doko and she made a point to take care of us at Doko first, during which I made an OpenTable reservation for Bar Doko later that night. Alejandra then kindly walked us back over to Bar Doko to make sure we got seated. Excellent handling by her. As soon as we were seated, we were given warm towels and bar snacks - a great way to start the experience. For drinks, both us got the Enso Requiem - The Circle, Completed. Both of us really liked it! On the boozier side but I do like me some Japanese whiskey, so the Suntory was perfect in this. For our next round of drinks, we got the Aki Fall highball. I have never really been a highball person, but this one changed my perspective. It was made with cherry bitters and jasmine wine, which were both unique for this type of drink. I could drink these all day, especially on a hot afternoon, as it was very refreshing. I will definitely give highballs another go next time I see them on a drink menu. Despite eating tons at dinner and then at Bar Doko before, we still wanted to try the food here, so we got the A5 Wagyu Toast and the Tuna Tostada. Both were small bites - each one came out as two individual pieces that were a bite's worth each. The A5 wagyu was super tender and full of flavor and the toast balanced out the moistness of the meat. The tuna was also very tasty and the tostada had a similar effect of soaking up the wetness from the fish while providing a nice crunch. It was topped with kimchi which gave it a nice Due to the trouble earlier, the bartender ended up making our second round of drinks on the house. With that said, the bill was still a bit pricey given that the drinks start out at $18+ and the food is in the same price range. I will say that drinks here are more expensive than you'd find at other cocktail bars around Houston. We had a disappointing-experience-turned-good here at Bar Doko and I'd be glad to give them another chance. The bartender and food runner were both very friendly and made sure we were taken care of. Definitely make a reservation before coming, even if it's same day.

Great place to get small bites, I love the ambience and seating of this restaurant! Very intimate and cozy. Service was great too, I highly recommend the Boba tiramisu that we got. I highly recommend and would come back.

Bar Doko offered Japanese inspired cocktails built around intriguing profiles like matcha, sesame, vanilla miso, yuzu, and jasmine wine. Drinks like Sora Sky and AI Affection promised those complex flavors, yet those layers never came through. Prices felt steep, especially compared to some of Houston's beloved bars that deliver far more complex drinks at a more reasonable price point. Bar Doko aims to make you feel exclusive with details like hot hand towels, and welcoming sake. While those extra touches were nice, they seem to hide the fact that the drinks and service do not match up to their approach. With only less than 10 customers inside the space, you'd think attentiveness would follow. But once the hot towels and drinks were delivered, we were left unattended and eventually having to walk up to the bar to settle our tab. Bar Doko did not leave a strong impression, but it was still interesting to experience once.

We booked a table here an hour before our dinner reservation across the hall at Doko, and I'm so glad we did. The drink selection and variety were far better than expected. It's definitely not the cheapest spot for cocktails, but they're crafted beautifully and absolutely worth it. We started off with some warm hand towels. Then we were given a complimentary shot of sweet plum wine and some Japanese rice crackers, a really nice touch. I need to go buy some of that plum wine for myself. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and recommended the Fuyu Winter. It was a delicious cocktail that even came with a little piece of honeycomb, which I loved. The space itself is on the smaller end, but we arrived early enough to enjoy it before the crowd rolled in, and had most of the room to ourselves for the first half of our time. By the time we left it had filled up, and conversations were definitely a bit harder to hear. Overall, though, we had a great experience and I'd come back.

Made reservations ahead of time and was able to get greeted/seated right away. They gave complimentary small snacks, but water they charge. Ordered the Kakigori which essentially was japanese shaved ice with alcohol. It was pretty good, deff was strong after the ice melted. Had some small chunks of strawberry as well. Seating is a bit limited. Has bad seating and cocktail seating. Parking - They will validate your ticket if you parked in the garage for an hour

We had no idea that Bar Doko was actually a separate building from the restaurant. As soon as we walked in I loved the vibe of the place, especially since I had just recently visited Japan and still having the vacation blues! We were greeted with a nice towel infused with lemongrass and a complimentary taste of their yummy plum wine! We had the place to ourselves and were impressed by the yummy cocktails. I had the matcha cocktail "AI Affection" and "Sora Sky", which was my favorite! Our bar tender was amazing and so sweet! He helped us move our dinner reservation since we were having such a great time enjoying our cocktails! We even got into a whole conversation about carajillos and the best coffees for them, sorry but this isn't the place to order one of those. Lol Overall I highly recommend stopping by, even if you aren't planning to dine at Doko.

Aesthetically pleasing and cozy vibes - but that's about it. Cocktails are a hit or miss. Note the bar is extremely small which they do a good job of warning you about beforehand. Place gets very loud and it's difficult to communicate unless you're sitting at a round table, which I think there were 2 or 3. Their cocktails lean toward the weaker side with a hint of alcohol. I enjoyed their Matcha cocktail which was light and refreshing with the yuzu notes. However, not a fan of the flavor profile for the Wa Peace (hojicha, smoked plum, tomato), or Sora Sky (sesame, cold brew, vanilla). Although the descriptions hit every key words of what I would like, the combined delivery is somewhat off. The Sora tasted pale, and the Wa was just salty. Frankly speaking, I'm also not a fan that they charge for water. We paid for parking, cram into a shoebox, pay for expensive drinks, and we have to pay additional for basic hydration? I understand the desire to portray exclusivity in a high-end part of the city, but this feels more like a lack of goodwill than a mark of sophistication.

I really enjoyed our post meal cocktail at bar doko. This elevated cocktail bar comes at a steeper price for a single drink, but was absolutely worth it for us. The matcha cocktail was refreshing and tasty. We also asked for a lemon sour and got a delicious drink. I'm obsessed with the cookies we got with the check. I'll be back to try the boozy Japanese shaved ice. You must give this a try

This bar is located in Autry Park, an up and coming devlopment that reminds me of River Oaks District. The owners also own Doko, the sushi restaurant directly across from it. My friends and I came here for drinks on a Friday night. The bar is small but has bar and hightop seating. I highly recommend making reservations online. Bar Doko is known for having the most extensive whiskey selection in Texas and it's clear when you look at their collection on the shelves. They also have a great selection of highballs and cocktails. Once you're seated, you're greeted with a warm towel infused with lemongrass to clean your hands and a sample of their plum wine. You're also given a small serving of rice crackers and wasabi peas to munch on while you're drinking. These details really made the experience personal and thoughtful. Their highballs and cocktails are a bit pricey but they're also more unique flavors that you won't find at other cocktail bars. I ordered the Affection which had vodka, matcha, yuzu, calpis, and egg white. I was definitely in the mood for a sweeter drink and this hit the spot. You also get the earthy and slightly bitter taste from a matcha. It was very refreshing and overall easy to drink. My friend ordered the Sky which is their take on an espresso martini. It's served in a tea cup with a stem attached underneath! I'd say the best part of the drink was the vanilla miso cold foam. Lastly, my other friend ordered Peace. The liquor base was reposado to give it a smoky flavor but the tomato water made it taste like a broth. It also comes with a piece of nori on the top. Overall, we loved the vibe of this place and the uniqueness of their drinks.

Very intimate bar with only 17 seats and not really any standing space. The ambiance is lovely and classy. The drinks are well-made although definitely on the boozy side. We came on a Monday night in freezing weather and although the bar was empty during dinner time (7-8pm) it quickly picked up after that. By the time we left around 10, it was pretty much full. I would definitely recommend a reservation if you don't go early. The drinks we had were all very well made. My favorite was the Sora Sky, which is served in a modified teacup and reminded me of an espresso martini. I also got the Kakigori, which I thought was a drink but turned out to be boozy shaved ice - not what I expected but tasted pretty good. We will definitely be back to try more drinks.

I came here Friday night, and made a reservation about 1.5 hours before coming here. I highly recommend a reservations here as they don't have much seating with the goal of keeping it a small, cozy vibe. There's seating both at the bar and a few small tables. The servers are very knowledgeable and friendly. Wheny you sit down, they give some warm hand towels to clean your hands, and start off with some complimentary plum wine, which was really good! I also had let them know I had celiac and had to eat strictly gluten-free, which was helpful, as multiple drinks had either wheat-based toppings with wheat-based products or wheat-based syrups, so I was able to avoid those. We got the Ai affection, sora sky (not gluten-free), and imo negroni. I tried the ai affection, which was a matcha-based drink, and the imo negroni that was pretty vermouth-forward. All the drinks were pretty good, had unique presentations, but the ambiance was really excellent, which is what would mostly bring me back.

We popped in for a drink (with no reservation) before our 7pm dinner next door at Doko. When we arrived around 6:15 we were the only patrons in the small bar but I gather that because of it's size they function mostly by reservation. We let them know about our dinner reservation next door and that we would be out by 7 so they were able to accommodate us for a cocktail. My husband enjoyed the Sora Sky cocktail and our friend really liked the Matcha IPA. The atmosphere was very cool and cozy and reminiscent of bars in the Golden Gai district of Tokyo. I would happily come back here but probably only if I was having dinner in the Autry park development because, and I could be wrong, but the garage parking is valet only.

But mom! It's a school night! Bar Doko serendipitously appeard on my social feed and I knew we had to check it out NOW, even on a school night. It was a Tuesday (open daily at 4pm) and after the year we've had (it's Jan 36th, 2025) we deserved this treat. And an AMAZING treat it was. First, make reservations whether you think you need it or not. They only seat 17 (no standing room, and I'm ok with that) so once the word gets out... you'll thank me! We walk in and I'm in love already. It's dark, moody, it's relatively quiet, and in Japanese style, it's simple but stunning. High tops, windows seating available, we opt for front row seats at the bar. It's always great to see craftsmen/craftswomen work. We are greeted and given oshibori (おしぼり or お絞り)/a hot towel (if you're not familiar, look up oshibori etiquette) and the staff gave us a minute to take it all in. Bar Doko has one of the LARGEST collection of Japanese whisky in Houston. The list ranges from a good daily pour, to exclusive high-end bottles for those looking for an exceptional experience. What we ordered: 'Ai': affection, Imo Negroni, 'Wa': peace, and the 'Hi': fire. All different and very unique flavors. While waiting, we were given some savory Japanese Kasugai to snack on (by the time this posts, Doko Sushi will be open right across the way, otherwise there is no food menu here). You can never go wrong with matcha. 'Ai' is very refreshing, slight earthy flavor with a refreshing, lightly sweetened and citrus flavor. The Imo Negroni offers something a bit more spirit forward- a great take on the classic negroni. We finished with a bang with the 'Hi'. One could say that this was their take on the classic Old Fashioned. Another spirit forward cocktail highlighted with smoky flavors from a McAllan stave. And finally the 'Wa'. This one... do not sleep on this one. Don't let the description fool you. This one is probably my favorite of the night! I love the smoke of the mezcal combined the refreshing tomato water. Umami. It was amazing! Definitely going back for this one. Overall Bar Doko lives up to omotenashi. It was a wonderful experience all around.
