The best ambiance you could ever want from a cocktail lounge! Showed up around 8:30 pm on a Monday and it so moody and sexy and amazing. Not only do they have an indoor area with the coziest seating, they also have a rooftop and an outdoor area. I love love love this place and it was such a nice surprise when I walked in! Melrose has been on my list for awhile now and I finally got the chance to go for drinks later in the evening during the week. To start, the ambiance is gorgeous. It's modern, spacious, and feels really luxe with earthy tones and interesting design elements. With this in mind, I definitely recommend dressing up. The cocktails that we tried were all well balanced and beautifully presented in delicate glassware and thoughtful garnishes. These are all $17 but the bartender mentioned that they also do a happy hour until 6:30 during which cocktails are $10. I will definitely come back for this another day. We also got the Carajillo shots, a cocktail that we normally enjoy, and while they came in cute little long steamed shot glasses, and were tasty, the strength of the shot was honestly just like a tiny portion of the regular cocktail. I would skip this next time and just get a full size version. Gratuity (20%) is added to all tabs in addition to a credit card processing fee (3%). Parking in Montrose is always a challenge so I would definitely recommend taking an Uber or Lyft. Overall, a solid spot for drinks! read more

Melrose never misses. The vibes are always great. Good music, but not so loud that you can't actually talk and enjoy dinner. We went on a Wednesday night and it wasn't overly packed, which made it the perfect atmosphere. We got the Southside and the Detox drinks, plus the pigs in a blanket and crispy tuna rice for appetizers, and everything was really good. The service also was attentive and clearing plates almost immediately after we finished. Overall, such a solid spot for good food, drinks, and energy! read more

This was my fourth visit to Melrose, and unfortunately, it will likely be my last. The last two times I've been here, I visited for happy hour, and both times I had an issue with drinks being entered after the happy-hour period. The time before today, I was actually overcharged because a drink I ordered during happy hour was apparently not entered into the system until after happy hour ended. This made my tab higher than it should have been. Today's experience made me question whether this is simply a coincidence. When drinks are not entered into the system at the time they are ordered, there is an opportunity for happy-hour drinks to later be charged at full price. And because there is an automatic 20% gratuity, a higher tab also means a higher mandatory tip. Service is consistently subpar and unfriendly, at least at the bar top. And honestly, the automatic 20% gratuity makes this even more frustrating. You cannot tip based on the service you actually receive, so there seems to be very little incentive for the bartenders to provide good service. We were also informed that they do not accept Apple Pay or allow split checks, even when there are only two people. This was especially confusing because they use a Toast system. We were told that the reason for this policy is that other patrons have called their banks and disputed charges. THIS IS PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY OVERCHARGE THEIR PATRONS. Today, 9/17, a friend and I went in for happy hour around 5:30 p.m. We ordered a round of drinks, and because my friend was drinking more slowly than I was, I ordered another drink around 6:15-6:20 p.m., well before happy hour ended at 6:30. The bartender made the drink and then disappeared. She never once checked on us, let us know if we wanted anything else before happy hour ended, or even offered us water. Around 6:50 p.m., two other female bartenders came in. Neither greeted us, but we were ready to leave, so I asked the blonde bartender if we could close out. She was friendly and proceeded to close out my friend, who had one drink. She then asked me what I had ordered. I told her the two drinks I had, and she seemed confused, so she called the original bartender over and asked her what time I had ordered my second drink. The original bartender said, within earshot of us, that I had ordered it "definitely at 6." The blonde bartender then said, "Oh okay, so it was happy hour, because happy hour ends at 6:30." She obviously was correcting the original bartender as she seemed surprised after she was told what time HH actually ends . So today, thankfully, the second bartender caught it and charged me the happy-hour price. But considering that I was actually overcharged the previous time I came for happy hour, this interaction was especially concerning. The original bartender had just confirmed that the drink was ordered during happy hour, yet it apparently had not been entered into the system at that time. Maybe there is an innocent explanation for why the drinks weren't entered into the system immediately, but after having the same issue during multiple happy-hour visits--and actually being overcharged the previous time, it is difficult not to question the pattern. Overall, repeated confusion over happy-hour pricing, inattentive service, an automatic 20% gratuity, and inflexible payment policies made this visit, and my previous ones, consistently disappointing. After four visits, I no longer feel the experience is worth the cost or inconvenience. read more

My friends and I saw the Melrose Tuesday Oyster & Martini Happy Hour on instagram and it would be a perfect spot to meet up after work. With everything going on with gulf oysters (bacteria/ people getting sick) , we had made sure it would be east oysters. Upon arrival, we each ordered a drink and then attempted to order oysters when we were informed they were gulf despite the post and reel saying it was East coast oysters. We were all very disappointed. The guys of the group all ordered burgers and fries from the HH menu instead. The fries arrived and are pretty thick cut and I enjoyed them. The burgers are pretty lack luster and I was glad I hadn't ordered one (especially when the guys said they weren't that good and weren't worth ordering again). The ambiance was great although I'd say the music was a bit too loud for an early Tuesday. With that said, it wasn't an issue and we still enjoyed the vibe very much. Additionally, the service was great. We were a bit surprised at the end that even for parties of 4 or less, gratuity is automatically added. I'll be honest with y'all, I had some serious reservations about coming here (and not just the 6pm kind). Get it? No? Anyways, Melrose has had a reputation for being very selective at the door, especially with their so-called "dress code," which, to be clear, has been known to feel discriminatory toward people who look like me. I'm all for a dress code but when you pick and choose who it applies to, that's where you lose me. If it wasn't for my friend begging to go before she moved, I wouldn't have ever patronized them. That said, we had no issues at the door and the actual experience was surprisingly pleasant. We opted to sit outside at the bar instead of inside (way too cold in there), and the outdoor patio was gorgeous. They even had an upstairs seating area. Walter, our bartender, was the best part of the night. He made me the most refreshing mocktails and kept us locked in with great conversation. For food, we shared the fries and the spicy tuna rice crisp. Both were tasty, though I wish the menu was a bit more extensive, but I hear that's changing soon. Overall, we had a genuinely good time. The staff we interacted with were warm and welcoming. My only lingering side-eye is still the door policy. I've heard the bouncer situation has been addressed, and I truly hope that's the case, because the hospitality inside is worth experiencing without the headache at the door. I'm honestly not someone who leaves reviews, even when I receive bad service, but our experience last night was bad enough that I felt the need to speak up. My two girlfriends and I went to this upscale cocktail bar knowing we would have a high tab, and that was never an issue. Our tab was already around $300, and the drinks were actually really good. After almost two hours, our server told us we needed to close out because a reservation had arrived for the table. The problem was that when we were seated, we were never told there was a reservation or given a time limit. I politely asked if we could be moved to another table, and we were told no--we could stand around if we wanted, but we had to leave the table. I asked for the manager, expecting him to help resolve the situation. Instead, he was extremely rude and told us he didn't care what we did, but we needed to leave before he had someone remove us. We paid our $300+ tab and left. The money was never the issue--the lack of communication and the way we were treated was. For an upscale establishment, I expected much better hospitality and professionalism. Unfortunately, the manager's attitude completely ruined what could have been a great night. read more

I went down for Happy Hour on a Friday evening. I had 4 cocktails, and they were all pretty nice. Happy Hour is from 4-630pm. When I arrived around 430pm, it was quite empty but the crowd did pick up a bit later. $10 cocktails during HH were a pretty good deal. I had the mango habanero margarita, peach & orange blossom martini and the passionfruit colado. I enjoyed all 3 though I would say there was a lot of ice and the portions were on the smaller side. For my last drink, I ordered the matcha martini but wasn't a fan, so they made me a cocktail from the berry bomb shot instead, which was nice. (They can make cocktails from any of the shots). I sat at the bar, and there was a rotating group of bartenders. I would say the first 2 were not particularly friendly, but our last bartender was very friendly and nice, which made up for it! This was actually our second attempt at trying this new hot spot because the first time we came there was literally not a single seat available. This time, there were several tables open but only one that didn't have a reserved sign on top so we snagged that one. I do feel that they would benefit from having a hostess to help with seating instead of a seat yourself situation, but I digress. Our waitress was super friendly and made recommendations when solicited. My husband really enjoyed the espresso tini and my friends liked the detox martini and the Southside. I came for happy hour, and while it did take a couple of minutes for the server to notice I was seated, my waitress and waiter were very kind. I started off with an espresso martini, which, to my surprise was very well-balanced with notes of cinnamon. I also enjoyed the Melrose burger. I really liked the brioche bun on the burger. I will say the actual burger was slightly too salty for me, as it seemed to have sea salt, but pay no mind to me as I typically am salt-averse. I also am not typically a pickle fan but I liked the pickles on this burger (the acidity also helped cut through the salt for me!). I was surprised with a bday reservation here by my bf. The place is gorgeous and gives Tulum vibes. The lighting and decor is amazing. Our waitresses were great as well. This new Lounge Bar created by the person that owned Clarkwood when it was good really knocked it out of the park with this very sultry inspired Lounge. Luan is an amazing bartender and we will follow him everywhere and I even told him "You know this place feels like the ambiance I miss at Clarkwood" that's when I discovered the owner who created Clarkwood creared Melrose as well, I had the pleasure of enjoying 2 cocktails there, a Carajillo and Southside, for bites we had some truffle fries which were amazing and the sauces they serve with it are really good! Can't remember what it was but of course ketchup and mayo and if you know about that you know mixing that on fries tastes amazing! I was impressed with their Tuna Rice Cakes, I was skeptical at first but Luan knew it is Lent and suggested and he knew exactly what I needed! One of the waitresses there, Alejandra, was very sweet and accommodating, she allowed me and my friend to probably bore her ear to death with chatting her up but she was very graceful and a class act! It's needless to say Melrose did it right and was very particular about staff selections which I love! Everyone there was amazing and very welcoming! Top notch service if I may say so myself!!
