Great service and food, but quite pricey. Despite the price, I still had a fantastic time at Georgia James. The interior is classy and the staff is well trained. My boyfriend made a reservation here for our anniversary, made a note of it in the reservation, and the staff confirmed that we were celebrating an anniversary upon arrival. I love it when restaurants actually read notes attached to reservations. It doesn't take that much effort, but it makes a world of a difference for the customer experience. We were seated in the corner of a room which we appreciated for a quieter/slightly more private dining experience. Our server was attentive and helped point out some menu highlights. We started off with a small, complimentary bread basket. Great, herby butter and soft bread. We got the pork belly for our appetizer and it was wonderful - there's a crust on it and the flavors are rich and tangy. We split the 14oz ribeye which was a good move because we didn't even finish it. Between the steak and the sides, and with how rich everything is, we still had an entire portion left. The steak came out perfectly cooked to medium rare, tender, and with that signature crust on it again. Brussels were pretty straightforward/predictable, but still good. I was a bit underwhelmed by the truffle mac n cheese. I think ultimately it was a bit lacking in truffle flavor, but it was very cheesy which I appreciated. Georgia James celebrated us by gifting us a slice of chocolate raspberry cake - delicious! Rich, smooth, and not too sweet. Either valet or park in the paid parking garage (Georgia James validates up to 2 hours via a QR code in their restaurant)

It's a massive development they occupy in a quickly expanding area of river oaks. The space is very elegant and feels like you would expect for a more contemporary American steakhouse. Service was cordial and present. Not over the top or chatty, and helped make suggestions. I tend to look for table service that elevates an experience when spending big at a steakhouse though. The food here was just all over the place unfortunately. The appetizers were part of the meal that feel flat for me. The Viet Cajun oysters were served shucked and submerged in butter. So much so that when I took a bite my body reacted in surprise, I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but they were overly salted/seasoned is my feel. The Korean pork belly was just plain over cooked, a textural nightmare as the meat was a couple of seconds away from jerky. If that was the point or not I can't say, but usually pork belly dishes are fatty and melty when you eat it. We had a bang bang shrimp type dish that was a par for the course experience, the fried cauliflower paired with it was a bit more interesting the the shrimp in my opinion. For the meal proper, we order a suggested Tomahawk cooked medium rare (+) with some potatoes. The potatoes were excellent, tossed in a bright and herby green sauce, we enjoyed those a lot. The steak took quite a while to get to us. We came for a Friday lunch service that wasn't quite halfway full, and after the initial rush of lunch goers had gotten their food by the time we ordered. The time we ended up waiting felt too long by half and the steak wasn't cooked to order by the time they were cutting it in front of us. It makes me wonder if it took so long, why wasn't it cooked more thoroughly. It came out perhaps a touch above rare, it was definitely an issue for the others at our table. We didn't send back since we had waited longer than necessary at that point, and the whole flambé show prior would have made it feel silly. My feeling is that under different circumstances, maybe at dinner or with a different approach ordering it would've been much better, but for my visit this is what I feel. I'd like to give it a try again, but at with the competition being what it is, is it worth the money again?

This is pretty standard affair as far as nice trendy steakhouses go. Great ambiance, great service, overpriced food. On company dime for a client, this could be a fun spot. But there are we too many better options if you are spending your own in Houston I really cannot complain about anything here, but the price is elevated for the location/trend, and there just isn't a standout menu to go out of my way for Would I Go Out of My Way to Try? No Would I Return? No Food Taste- 7/10 Ambiance - 8/10 Service - 10/10 Value- 5/10

Well, this is a very beautiful, romantic and classy restaurant. Great for business luncheons or for romantic date night. This was a weird experience. Would be 5 stars for the food but I don't know WHAT was going on with today but the bartender and waiter were VERY OFF!! ONE STAR DEDUCTION: So I do NOT drink it's against my religion and I literally ordered a VIRGIN mojito. Guess what I got a liquor filled mojito that I had to spit out and ask to be remade SECOND STAR DEDUCTION: I ordered a SHRIMP Caesar salad and was brought a CHICKEN Caesar salad. THIRD STAR DEDUCTION: I ordered the FRIED BRUSSELS and received vacation broccolini. UGH! Very frustrating. Crab fingers The bone marrow Brussels once I got them Mac & cheese Were all pretty good. But overall the meal was just bothersome waiting on them to replace everything. The kicker is there was only ONE other table being served because my reservation was at 12pm when they first open. Love this place though I hope they get it right next time. $200 Bill and a complete wreck of the meal is not what's expected. Definitely was looking for higher standards for lunch at an empty, not busy time or just ever.

Looking for a steakhouse with an intimate, relaxing setting? Maybe for a date night, anniversary, birthday, or just a treat-yo-self kind of night then look no further. Located in Houston's newer Regent Square area near River Oaks. For parking, valet is available and there is also a parking garage nearby. Garage parking is paid online, scan the QR codes located on some of the stone pillars and fill out the info. As soon as you walk into Georgia James you'll immediately notice its modern-sleek decor. To start the evening off I ordered a Gin Martin. I went with their signature GJ Martini #1. I typically go for a regular extra dirty martini but this had a different spin. It had Citrus flavored gin, Blanc vermouth, Quin quina Blanc, and bitters. The drink tasted great, just a little too sweet for my liking since traditional martinis are not sweet at all. For dinner we weren't terribly hungry so we skipped the sharables and went straight to the main course. I ordered the filet mignon, cooked medium with Béarnaise sauce. The filet was cooked to my liking (don't be fooled by the photo, I know it looks charred lol) and the Béarnaise sauce was exactly what I wanted. Also ordered a side of sautéed broccolini that was seasoned perfectly, not too salty or peppery. To end the evening I ordered a dessert cocktail. I already had it in mind to see if they could make me a Brandy Alexander, many places either do not know how to make one or do not have all the ingredients needed for it. To my surprise the Brandy Alexander was on their dessert cocktail list. It was very light, not too sweet, and creamy. BIG WIN! Our server was great throughout the evening as well. Very attentive. Looking forward to my next visit here.

Great location, beautiful restaurant. This is a great restaurant for a date night as it has romantic low light with the fine dining touch. The food was amazing, we tried a little of everything. Drinks were decent. Service was stellar.

This review reflects the new location of Georgia James; parking is only available in the paid garage, not a great start. The new area adjacent to River Oaks is very upscale and clean, which is a plus. Unfortunately, the execution and quality of the food took a slight nosedive from a few years ago in their old spot. The Caesar salad was a bit forgettable; 3.5/5. Their gulf oysters were straight up not good; very salty and engulfed in a butter bath, 1/5. The hearth roasted pork belly was a bit burnt and tough, 2/5. We split an off the menu tomahawk for our table; the cook was requested as a medium rare plus and came out just south of rare. I found it a bit inedible due to how raw the cook was. Not a fan, and not a good cook of a nice cut. Overall, this wasn't the top notch spot that I visited a few years back; or everybody else caught up and eclipsed this in terms of cook and execution.

Arrived here for a dinner date. The place wasn't crowded but we decided to sit outside because it's a nice day. For starters I ordered the East Coast oysters which were so fresh and delicious! The espresso martinis were delicious as well. Our server was a young girl. I forgot her name, but she was very attentive. For dinner, we ordered a New York strip to be split Brussel sprouts and the truffle mac & cheese. That typically always order a fillet so the New York trip wasn't really that good to me. I don't like a lot of fat on my steak, but it was good nonetheless than the presentation was excellent now onto the sides. I absolutely loved the brussels sprouts they were so delicious. I wanted to run into the back and ask the chef what his recipe was and the mac & cheese was delicious as well. I was so full that we had to have doggy bags. I would definitely come here again. The ambience is great. The food is immaculate and the service is excellent.

I found this place to be standard for a steakhouse. The service is at the level you would expect for the price point, professional and accommodating. For appetizers we had the Caesar salad, which was ok but I couldn't taste or see the boquerones that they indicated were there. That was disappointing because I always hope that steakhouses will serve a "real Caesar salad" which must have fish. But they're probably catering to the masses who don't tend to prefer this. We also had the popcorn shrimp and we did like that quite a bit. FYI the shrimp are not crispy, moreso saucy. As for the entrees, I don't really eat steak so unfortunately I cannot comment on that, but my husband indicated that he enjoyed his. I ordered the king crab legs, which had a lot of good seasoning and quite tasty, but I'm not sure it was worth the $110 market price for 1/2 pound. Especially since I can get similar for much less at a crawfish spot. That's my fault for not asking what the MKT price was though. lol. We had the Brussel spouts (just ok) and the smashed and fried potatoes (better than ok) for sides. I did find the drink menu to be impressive as they had a nice variety of cocktail offerings with different spirits. I had the New Fangled and the Texas Derby. Of the two I preferred the Texas Derby. My husband had the Tallow Old Fashioned. He was both disappointed and relieved that he couldn't taste the tallow. lol.

The service was great. A pet pee e of mine is sitting with an empty glass for long periods of time. We never had to worry about this. The drinks were good. My fiancee enjoyed the el mercado. I had an old fashioned as usual which was pretty good. The only knock is, it said tallow old fashioned, but it didn't taste any different than a normal old fashioned from wherever. However, not necessarily anything to bring down a star rating. The braised beef ravioli was good, the pork belly was good, fried chicken was solid, but the rissoto was the star of the show. I would go back for that. The side were good too. The smashed potatoes were super good. The restaurant has a nice chill vibe. You can tell as long as you are business dressed or business casual youll be fine. You dont have to be formal to go here.

Georgia James definitely at the higher price point of Houston restaurants, but the food lives up to the hype. I cannot stress enough, how amazing the Viet Cajun oysters are. I would keep coming back just to eat these. Our steak was so delicious. It was cooked perfectly and we love the table side service. I also feel like the steaks are a fair price for the quality of the meat. However, I do feel like some of the sides here overpriced. The mac & cheese was Really creamy and very good, but a bit underseasoned. A little white pepper would have enhanced it. Overall, I absolutely love this restaurant and my next step will be trying it for happy hour.

Came here for Houston restaurant weeks and tried the dinner menu, honestly everything was very average. First impression we ordered cocktails, my friend ordered a pornstar martini, it is supposed to come with a small shot of sparkling wine on the side and the bartender made it with a side of espresso??? Very odd and the same drinks we ordered were so inconsistent with each round. For my entree I got the lobster ravioli, it was an up charge of $5 and it was the most unseasoned dish I've ever had. Absolutely no flavor to it at all. I tried my friends steak and their steak was good. Restaurant is nice inside just like any other steakhouse.

Great Sunday happy hour at the bar and overall nice atmosphere. Great value for the portions and steak exceeded my expectations. Service was okay.

Ask the Community - Georgia James

How many ounces are the steaks listed on the menu?

They were all decent sized steaks - I believe 8 oz or more. It's fine dining and the waiters are more than happy to answer any questions. My husband and I got the porterhouse steak and that was 20 oz if I remember correctly.

    Do they have vegetarian options?

Georgia James does have vegetarian options.

Any option for outdoor heated seating?

Yes. They now have a rooftop area.

Do you have to make a reservation?

I believe so they are always booked

How much is the baller board?

It varies because they just charge you per item they put on there. So it really just depends on the mood of the chef. We had the most expensive things on the menu on there, probably ended up around $500

I had heard great things about the cafe at this new location, and had even tried their former location on Hillcroft a couple years ago as part of TooGoodToGo. We opted to sit on the patio on a (rare) nice Houston day. The tables were spacious and the patio seating was very comfortable. We ordered the Kofta Kabob and Chicken Kabob specialty platters. These platters come with your choice of two sides - we went for the Fried Cauliflower, Tabouli Salad, Hummus, and Muhammara. The meats were so good and hit the spot. The Kofta Kabob had a complexity of flavor to it; so many spices that blended together really well. I will say that the post-meal burps of these spices were...smellier than usual. The Chicken Kabob was also flavorful and had a nice smokiness to it from the grill. I liked the slight crunch provided by the char along the edges. If I knew how to make chicken like this, it would be my daily meal prep! The Fried Cauliflower had a nice sear to it with lots of flavor. The Tabouli Salad and Hummus were comparable to those I've had at other Mediterranean places. The Muhammara was my favorite of the sides! ChopnBlok has done no wrong on any of my visits and at this point...I'm convinced they just know…read morewhat they're doing. From the welcome as soon as you walk in to the attentive staff and delicious menu options, I've consistently had a great experience here. Now if there's a patio, you already know where you're going to find me! I almost always choose to sit outside, and one thing I REALLY appreciate is that the service doesn't change because you're on the patio. I'm still checked on and given the same attention as if I were sitting inside. Patio people matter too! Lol The **Ikoyi Shrimp and Coconut Chicken Bites** are favorites for us. They're seasoned and cooked so well, and honestly, you could probably point at something in the Small Chops section and walk away happy. There isn't a dedicated kids menu, so I usually let my little one make a meal out of the smaller bites and she's a happy camper. For my main, I've ventured around the menu and tried different dishes, but somehow I always find my way back home to the **Golden Bowl**. Smoky jollof, curry, chicken, veggies and plantains all working togetherand every time I order it, it tastes just as good as I remembered. At this point, recommending ChopnBlok is easy. **Good food, good service, good patio vibes. I'd recommend this place over and over again.**

This place was super packed during Saturday lunch, so I highly recommend making a reservation…read more Luckily, the host was able to squeeze my friend and I at the bar. Despite how packed and busy it was, the bartenders were super attentive throughout our entire visit. I ordered the following: 1. Coconut Chicken Bites: There was barely any coconut flavor. I would say this appetizer can be skipped as there was nothing particularly special about it. 2. Golden Bowl: Super delicious and easily the best dish I had here. Every bite was packed with so much flavor. I would definitely order this again! 3. Greens & Tings: This had a very smoky flavor, and the chicken was incredibly soft, tender, and tasty. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this restaurant, especially since it was my first time having West African cuisine.

I ordered the Tejano Cesar Zepplin and added double chicken, pickled onions and halved tomatoes with a side of tomato, basil soup and it was all so good. I've never had a zeppelin until before now and it's the best way to describe it is that it's the cross between a sandwich and a salad. What it is exactly is a loaf of bread with the inside taken out so that it's like more of a shell and then it is a salad bowl like mixture stuffed in there. I feel like it's the perfect lunch because It's super filling, but also very light, and healthy! What more can you ask for. Wish I could even give this location 6 stars because I came about 40 minutes before close and he gave me 2 bread puddings for free because they were about to close.

They warm the bread, remove the inside and leaves the crispy outside to fill in with salad. Their salad recipes are good, especially the southwest one with avocados and black beans. Substitutions seem welcome and you get to choose your own sauce. Of course, let's not forget they offer Zapp's chips, which are delicious. Overall great and filling meal. Oh, so many tables to sit alone or as a group. Great place to be ! Leaving satisfied and would want to come back!
