Dessert was Basque Cheesecake. Everything was delicious. The portions are generous which makes me happy as I'm an eater, ha. Have never left here hungry like I have some other high-end places. The ambience at this restaurant is really nice and great seating options--front patio, high tables in bar area and in dining room there are high chairs around the fire where you can watch food prep and cooking. Phenomenal! Came for a birthday dinner and everything was phenomenal. As you walk in you are greeted with friendly faces. Place is kept clean and you see them constantly cleaning through out. Felix was our waiter and he was very friendly and attentive. Him and another guy assured our cups were never empty and our table was clean and clear. Date night approved! So many good options for fine dining now in houston but I took a shot in the dark and decided to try prime 131 for our monthly date night and they did not disappoint at all. The food was amazing! We just decided to try the recommended starters from our waitress, a sushi roll and dessert. We literally left no food behind lol. The bone marrows and the lobster bites were top tier! I will have to say we did come during dinner around 6:30 and as time went on they got increasingly busy and service started declining. We were flagging down waiters for request. For the price we are paying to dine here and for this to be a five star, I think that should be improved. This was my pick for my solo Mother's Day weekend dinner. It has been on my list for quite some time. I made a reservation online, valet was right there to take my car (price:8.00). I went there specifically to celebrate the receipt of my first paperback versions of my first book. It was a special night on Saint Patrick's Day. The staff was willing to play along and take selfies with the book. The food is always amazing, and the staff is very attentive. We like sitting at the bar, where the entertainment is largely watching the stoking of the open fire that gives food that pit smell and look. With so many gems in Houston, I am glad I came across this place. I was looking for a place that offered Steak and Sushi and this amazing place popped up. Prime 131 was tucked away in the Heights area. I think it's a great place to check out during the week after work or during the week as a date night. The vibes inside are very romantic and cozy. I started the night off with the Tequila Twilight, which was a well balanced of sweet and tequila. I paired the food together with the mini crab cakes. The crab cakes were so tasty, I didn't have a chance to snap a picture but the freshness and crispness of the crab cakes didn't last long on my plate. I am definitely torn between the short rib and the 8 oz steak but if I had to choose again, I think I would have to go with the short rib. The short rib was grilled to perfection, yet very tender!! My birthday falls in August, which means I get to celebrate during Houston Restaurant Weeks. Lucky me! I was looking for a spot that could accommodate a large group, and to my surprise, I found out The BB Group has opened so many new hot spots. I don't go out much these days, so I was thrilled to discover them. Booking was quick and easy. I reserved Prime 131 for a group of 20-25. The manager was great and let me know they had a smaller room available (not completely private, but private enough), which worked perfectly for us. Parking was a breeze with both valet and a private garage offering free parking. When I walked in, I was immediately impressed by the aesthetics. I wish I'd had a chance to tour the whole restaurant, but I went straight to our table. Our entire group ordered from the HRW menu, and we were pleasantly surprised...the portions were full-sized apps, entrées, and desserts. What a deal! And the food? Outstanding. Out of 20 people, not a single unhappy mouth! Service was equally impressive! They happily split the bills for everyone and even cut our cake at no extra charge. After driving past Prime 131 numerous times, we finally decided to give it a try and made a reservation for our Saturday date night. The restaurant is located in Timbergrove, tucked among residential subdivisions in a small strip repurposed from machine shops. Although the lot is spacious and the only other business sharing the lot is a small CrossFit gym, parking is valet only for $8, which seems unreasonable given the location. The industrial vibe interior was spacious with dim lighting. They even kept some of the original equipment/fixtures. While we expected this to a steak restaurant, the menu surprisingly has a lot of seafood/sushi options. For appetizers, we ordered the chilled eastern oysters (5/5, flavored with ponzu and wasabi, excellent ), roasted oysters (4/5, Thai style), mini crab cakes (3/5, pretty mid) and dinosaur bone marrow (3.5/5, smelled great while grilling in the open kitchen, nice presentation, pretty good flavor but not too content). For the main, we split the USDA Prime porterhouse for 2 loaded with crab meat (4.5/5), cooked perfectly medium rare, very tender and seasoned well. For sides, we shared grilled asparagus (5/5), broccolini (4/5) and exotic wild mushrooms (4/5). We ended the meal with lemon and lime (a fun dessert came with a little hammer, 5/5) and skillet fudge (classic, 4/5). Overall enjoyed our dinner experience. Desserts: Bread pudding: this sounded good, but there was nothing special about it. It was super plain and dry tasting and kind of bland. Bread pudding should decadent and rich, but this was not it. I had never heard of this joint prior to gandering at the HRW site this year, so we decided to give it a shot. We made a reservation for a double date on a Saturday night. If you're lucky enough to find a spot in the front lot, make sure you grab it. Valet is going to be an additional 10 bucks or so to park your car 2 ft away. That's 2/3 of a cocktail. Save your money if you can. The dining hall is a very clean and spacious, remodeled industrial space. They still have some equipment tastefully highlighted throughout the restaurant. A neat look and throwback to the original of the building. If you send it in the central area, you'll get a good view of the kitchen and staff doing their thing. Food wise, when it comes to hrw you're not necessarily getting the best thing anybody has to offer, but it's usually pretty solid because they want you back. This was no exception. Everything was good, but not amazing. I started with the LobsterMiso Soup. I thought it was good. It was definitely skimping on quantity. I wouldn't say that the flavors were overly pronounced, but it was a different take on the miso and I liked it. The gal got the grilled romaine salad, and she loved it and I thought it was pretty good too. For the entree I ordered the wagyu skirt steak. For what it was, it was very good. No complaints. Comparatively speaking the grilled bone-in short rib my friend ordered was probably the winner of the evening. Not only did it look. Super cool, but it was cooked to perfection. We also really enjoyed the salt grilled branzino. Very tender and flavorful. I think I won on the desserts with the Black Forest, a sizeable chocolate cake arrangement. The bread pudding was good, but I didn't care for the black sesame ice cream too much. We also ordered a round of cocktails to go with our dinner. And those were very good. So to start service was wonderful, I almost wanted to give 5 stars just because of how nice my waiter was. The steaks I thought were good but didn't blow me away like I thought it would (they let you pick your own wood to cook which was something I've never seen). The Mac and cheese was delicious but the broccolini was ok at best and it was slightly cold. The loaded mashed potatoes were very underwhelming as well in my opinion and it too, seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. As well, the portion sizes of the sides were really small, especially for the cost. Desserts, we got the fudge skillet and cheesecake, both were ok... now to the odd and not so great points. I'm not sure if this place knows what it wants to be, it's priced at an upscale steakhouse, $8 valet and mandatory 3% fee for all checks. I knew about the fee due to Yelp and I mean $13 is not breaking the bank but like really? And you're charging all this and you're playing day and night by kid cudi amongst other things for the music? And to me the interior doesn't scream upscale steakhouse, it's nice but just to me doesn't have that upscale feeling. To me things are overpriced and unnecessary. I think it'd be better served as a mid tier steakhouse, drop the prices, the fees and thrive in that area. But to leave with a bill similar to some of the nicest steakhouses in houston along with the extra fees is just a little ridiculous to me. We live in the neighborhood and have passed by quite a few times prior to checking Prime 131 out. This building was formerly a machine shop of sorts and now repurposed to include the restaurant and a gym/ fitness spot next door. Location is right across from the park in the Timbergrove area. Parking is $8 valet only in their lot, which is extremely disappointing; this isn't downtown LA and there is no need to valet in their properly sized lot. We came for a Saturday date night and made a prior reservation. The interior is fairly dark and has an open concept kitchen which is really nice. They kept some of the items from the machine shop as decor on the roof and the interior is fairly upscale. The interior is more spacious than expected from looking from the outside. The menu has quite a bit of sushi and seafood items surprisingly for a restaurant named for beef. Service was as expected for a higher end restaurant. We ordered a half dozen raw and chilled eastern oysters (4/5, great), jumbo lump mini crab cakes (3/5, fairly bland), roasted oysters (4/5, nice Thai style), and dinosaur bone marrow (beef femur marrow roasted and smoked with sourdough, 4/5 for the presentation, although there's not much substance to eat). For the main, we split the USDA prime porterhouse for 2 (4.5/5). Cooked perfectly to medium rare and very tender and a solid porterhouse. It was a bit fattier than expected (actual fat back, not the marbling). We also got some sides for the table, grilled asparagus (5/5, these are solid), broccolini (3/5), and exotic wild mushrooms (3/5, these taste exactly just like oyster mushrooms). For dessert, we got their fairly fun lemon and lime dessert (4/5) and a fudge dessert (3/5). Overall, we had a nice dinner experience with mostly the beef menu being explored and the seafood portion rather untouched. The quality and cook on the steaks are solid and it seems like they're on top of the presentation and taste of their dishes. Value wise, this is probably a 3/5 or 3.5/5; not everyone casually goes and gets $100 steaks. This spot is pretty unique as it melds two different types of restaurants together - KBBQ and steakhouse. Beautifully decorated interior with rich woods, moody lighting, and industrial chic decor. If you're looking for a nice date night spot, this is definitely a place to add to your list. My first time here was for Houston Restaurant Week as a double date with another couple. It's in a shopping center with other establishments so you'd think there would be plenty of parking, but a lot of spots were taken by valet. We were able to find the last self-parking spot which was nice. When we walked in, the hostess greeted us and showed us to our table. I highly recommend making a reservation. The place had a more industrial look, which was pretty cool. After a round of cocktails, I picked the grilled romaine salad, the salt grilled branzino, and the bread pudding. I loved EVERYTHING I ordered! The lemon candy and breadcrumbs added a nice texture to the salad and the dressing had a garlicky Caesar vibe to it. The fish was light and flavorful. The brown butter really made the dish. As a dessert lover though, I was looking forward to the bread pudding the most. I asked for the black sesame ice cream on the side and I'm glad I did, I didn't care for the ice cream. I feel like it lacked flavor. I travel to Houston frequently for business and have been here twice, both times with large parties. How a restaurant handles a large party is really a true test of their food and service. Benjamin Berg's Prime 131 Steakhouse in the Timbergrove area of Houston certainly exceeded my expectations. We took our son and daughter in law out for an early Saturday night meal. I was skeptical of the huge menu and the combination of Japanese/American/Korean Steakhouse vibe but in the end, the food is what counts and Prime 131 hit the bullseye on the food front. We started with some cocktails and mocktails for the pregnant daughter in law and the very tasty grilled sourdough. I will say the portion size for the bread (not complimentary) was a little smaller than I would have liked. The cocktails were well made. As I mentioned, the menu is quite substantial, and our server Haley was very patient with us as we tried to figure out what to order. From the appetizer section, our table ordered the clam chowder, grilled romaine salad, Chorizo and Avocado Salad and the Chicken Fried Lobster. Both Salads were the bomb, and my son really enjoyed the clam chowder. Based on bang for your buck, we likely will pass on the Chicken Fried Lobster in the future as it was a little underwhelming. Next, my son and I each has the 6 piece chef's choice Nigiri sampler. This was really the litmus test for me as a self professed sushi snob. Each piece of Nigiri was dressed so that additional soy and wasabi was not needed, and while not up to the level of true sushi restaurants such as Soto and MF, the nigiri was very good. When they were brought to the table, the individual types of fish was not pointed out, so that likely needs to improve for a chef's choice type dish, but I could tell for sure what 5 of the 6 pieces were, and likely knew what the 6th piece was. So, 8/10 for the Nigiri. For the main dishes we had two filets, the 18 oz American Wagyu ribeye, and the whole roasted lobster. All steaks were cooked to the proper temperature and had a really good flavor of smoke from the wood fire ovens and seasoning. The roasted lobster might have been the tastiest lobster I can remember. Just perfectly cooked with the right amount of butter and seasonings to complement the lobster itself. We had the spinach, mushrooms, and ricotta stuffed mac and cheese as sides, and all were exceptional. Sides can really set a restaurant apart, and Prime 131 takes theirs seriously. The mac and cheese was my favorite, the rest of the table preferred the spinach which I also thought was very good. We sampled 3 desserts which were all good, but at this point we were pretty stuffed. All that food, a couple of cocktails and a nice bottle of French Burgundy added up to an larger than life tab, but for special occasions the splurge was worth it. So I am not from Houston but decided to stop here for dinner, since the reviews were awesome. It was my first time here and they sat me and my husband at the chefs table, this was a pretty cool dining experience as we got to be up close watching staff hard at work and our food being prepped in front of us. Found this gem looking for a new steakhouse to try. They had a pre fixe menu for $59 and happy hour specials all day on Tuesdays. Was immediately greeted by friendly hostess and sat at the bar. Bartender was phenomenal I wish I had got his name. Drinks were well balanced and aesthetically pleasing. I ordered the dragon roll to start with. I feel the rice was a bit over cooked but roll had good flavor. The roasted beets were to die for literally the best I've had. They were sweet, hearty, and had a sauce that complimented them perfectly. For entree I got the 8 ounce filet which was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The broccolini had a smoky burnt taste that I did not fancy but was cooked well. Last for dessert I got the basque cheesecake. They brought it out with a beautiful presentation. Cheesecake had just the right amount of sweetness and tartness from fruit to give a well balanced dessert. Overall I was impressed with this place and will revisit! read more

Prime 131 has become one my favorite places to indulge. I have been several times for dinner and have tried both the regular menu and the Korean BBQ option. You can't go wrong with either option. From the regular menu, prepare to be overwhelmed with options. Some of the menu options are very unique and all are delicious. I've tried steak, sushi, several lobster dishes, seafood, and ton of side. I love it all. On the Korean BBQ side, we ordered the middle option and were blown away. The Korean BBQ is both an adventure in deliciousness and presentation -- it's truly a remarkable experience. The staff are very attentive and are very engaged with recommendations. While the food does take a bit of time, the wait is definitely worth. I've made a goal to work my way through the entire menu! read more

One of the best meals I've had this year. My family rented out their private room for a reunion/birthday/pre-wedding celebration, and the staff were incredibly attentive. The restaurant is dark/moody and the perfect venue for this maximalist steakhouse. Their wine selection was excellent. We had several bottles of cab from Napa - not far from where many of us live. Their starters were classic steakhouse but with obvious Texan flare. We had the oysters, chicken fried lobster, crab cakes, and the bone marrow. The latter was what everyone was clamoring for in a (futile) attempt to get seconds. The "dinosaur" bone marrow certainly lived up to its name, as a cow's long bone was the Jurassic-sized canvas upon which this masterpiece was created. What's better than bone marrow? Try topping it with pit beef. The bread was extra crusty as well. A knockout of a starter. The oysters were tasty despite me unable to recall where the nearest body of water is. However, nothing will come close to the steaks. I went with the Australian Wagyu New York strip. Easily the best NY strip I've ever had with respect to tenderness and just explosive flavor. My neighboring uncle and cousin agreed. I got to a good helping of my cousin's American Wagyu ribeye which was nearly equally rich and buttery. This is Texas, so I would've expected no less in terms of meat quality. But these were beyond expectation. The mushroom and broccolini sides were well-portioned. We all somehow had room for dessert, and the highlights were the sorbet flight (much needed acidity) and the Basque cheesecake. The latter was thick and decadent with high-quality ingredients. I've never been over here but it's located in this industrial strip center with a couple other businesses down 11th. The valet is basically mandatory and $8. I walked out and my car was two steps away lol "we take Venmo, cash, card" We did HRW and I thought it was just okay. Maybe unpopular opinion, anyone with this many restaurant concepts - they can't all be 100%. Korean Japanese inspired steakhouse? Very nice ambience though, very dark romantic and cool with the open concept fire kitchen. Spicy Crispy Tuna Roll - presentation of the chopsticks and wasabi/ginger was cute. Roll itself was good but amazing by any means Baby Chicken - (I was between this and the short rib. Might've made a choice I regretted!) served with baby potatoes and a spicy mayo~ like sauce - I wouldn't think it would need such a big portion of this sauce if the chicken was cooked with flavor and that fire Basque Cheesecake - probably my best bite of the night. They present it with this little fruity smoke show and it's served with fruits and some special k strawberry cereal (idk what it was actually, just reminded me of that). Tasty. Why 5 stars? Because this was an excellent choice for a 40th birthday celebration. --- --- --- There are standard birthdays and anniversaries, but you gotta do something really special for the milestone occasions. While we took a fun vacation earlier in the summer, for the actual date of birth itself, we opted to visit Prime 131 after an embarrassing amount of research. Anytime you are spending $415 on one meal, you want to make sure it's a good one, and it was indeed a good one! Item by item... Miami Vice: 5-stars. A cocktail meant to be enjoyed on the beach, but also pretty perfect for a birthday dinner. Chicken Fried Lobster: 5-stars. Do you like lobster? Do you like chicken fried steak? Would you enjoy the perfect marriage of the two? Keyword: "perfect", because that's what this was. Parker House Rolls: 5-stars. They come out in a skillet on top of a layer of melted butter juices. Do I need to explain why these are 5-stars? Dinosaur Bone Marrow: 3-stars. A rare miss for this experience. To be honest, 3-stars is probably generous. I would not ever need to order this again. It was essentially like a beef stew or a pot roast meat on top of a giant bone. The presentation was cool, but the taste was a big disappointment. 14 oz Australian Wagyu NY Strip with truffle butter: 5-stars. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. I already used the word "perfect" above for the chicken fried lobster, but it also applies here. No notes. Yes, it was $145, so you could say that it better be good, but sadly, I've had some expensive steaks that were not so good. Ricotta Stuffed Mac and Cheese: 5-stars. Along with the lobster and the steak, this was the other co-favorite. My wife and I both agreed that this was as good as mac-n-cheese gets. Loaded Mashed Potato: 4-stars. A really solid side, but just not quite on the level of the mac. I liked how it came with Au Jus. Birthday Tart: 5-stats. This was brought out for free because we were celebrating a birthday and I actually loved it! It was a lot better than the paid dessert, IMO. 131 Skillet Fudge: 3-stars. Admittedly, this is probably because I'm not a huge chocolate person. I'm sure if you ARE, you might like this a lot more than me. The first meal of my 40's was a great one! read more

My family and I had a wonderful dinner at Prime 131 celebrating Houston Restaurant Week. Upon entering, the restaurant is very nice and I'd classify it as "warehouse chic". Props to them for being handicapped-friendly and having a ramp that leads to the front door. We did more of a family-style dinner so we could try a variety of their menu. For apps we had their cannelini bean soup, Dragon roll, crunchy spicy tuna, and roasted oysters. My fave of the apps was the dragon roll because of its large portions of shrimp tempura. For entrees we got the grilled bone-in short rib (large portion!), miso cod, prime filet, and wagyu skirt steak. My all-time fave was the wagyu skirt steak...talk about juicy and tender! We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes for the table and the raclette made it so cheesy! The desserts, in my opinion, were some of the best I'd had at a restaurant in a long time. We had their basque cheesecake, caramel posset, and black forest cake. Each dessert was a work of art, but we loved the whole show that came with the cheesecake and the berry smoke was such a unique touch. The service was very attentive, and our water glasses were never empty. If this place was closer to home, I'd definitely see myself returning more often to celebrate an occasion. read more
