Barnaby's Cafe is an easy 10/10 recommend for me, especially if you're into really solid, well-balanced meals. I've gotten the burgers, salmon, apps, desserts. Everything is amazing. For apps, you really can't go wrong. The garlic hummus is my go-to, the chipotle salsa has a nice kick, and the white queso is straight-up addictive. For entrees, my absolute favorite is the Chicken Salsalito -- the dressing is perfect, everything is chopped into bite-sized pieces, and the mix of jicama, tomatoes, and onions just works so well together. It's one of those salads that actually feels satisfying, not like an afterthought. The Caesar with grilled chicken is also consistently amazing. The chicken always has that great char on the outside while staying juicy inside, which is harder to get right than most places make it seem. And don't skip the chocolate cookie! I've seen a lot of locations of this chain in Houston. It's a brunch spot with a menu that I can imagine would be difficult to read for the visually impaired. They have a super dog-friendly patio and a small parking lot. I ordered the breakfast burrito, and my friend got the French toast breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was absolutely massive, and he only ate half of it. I thought it was good, and it was filled, but he thought it was mid. Barnaby's has the best. & largest salads you could ever want. Sometimes for a meal we order ONE salad, & share it, my wife & me. We have before shared the one salad between 3 of us, & it was enough salad for us 3. For desert, to go because we were full, the most delicious carrot cake you have ever had. I live super close to Barnaby's but have avoided it for years... not sure why? I guess it seemed a bit basic and boring? I know, stupid and boy, was I wrong! After a particularly difficult night of breastfeeding (my son is still up multiple times a night at 6 months), I was drained and craving a meaty breakfast. Barnaby's was close and open so I went for it. Let me just say that it was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had!! I had the petite steak and eggs and everything was just so well executed. Steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and eggs were done just right (over easy). The potatoes were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside -- awesome. Finally, the biscuit was absolutely delicious, with the perfect amount of sweetness. I have only tried breakfast here so far but it was a win. Highly recommend to start your day with! read more

Service was 10/10 but The food was disappointing overall. The pancakes were bland and lacked flavor, the sausage arrived unheated and had to be sent back and the fruit tasted old and not fresh. The coffee was also very weak and watery. The only item that stood out positive was the potatoes and bacon which. Back to one of my top 4 restaurants in H-Town! Tonight I was craving a burger and I chose Barnaby's because I knew the food would be good and the service welcoming. Seriously, one of the friendliest restaurants I have ever been to. This location is one of my favorites because the dining room has a nice open feeling, staff is always friendly, and the distance to home is good. Tonight I had the Green Chili Cheese Burger. It hit the spot!!! Juicy burger with a great added flavor from the green chili. And their fries are always my favorite. Don't forget a side of honey mustard to dip your fries in! I saved a little room for dessert. Now their desserts are huge, so my go-to is the Baby Brownie á la Mode. It's tiny, but perfect to take care of a little sweet tooth craving. Love that Barnaby's is accepting of all including fur babies. Every time in Houston we have to have at least 1 meal here; of course for the food but honestly it's for the fur babies AND THE CARROT CAKE!!! OMG, if you have not tried it, run don't walk for the carrot cake. I stopped in on the way home and picked up 3 slices to take home and give away. Patios are dog friendly and servers are friendly iniside the neighborly feeling establishment. There's sandwiches, salads, steaks, burgers, and a couple other odds and ends to meet your needs when ordering. It's mostly diner type food thats always prepared very well and not too overly priced. This was my first Barnaby's breakfast and it will be my last. I normally am an avid fan of Barnaby's and will drive to Barnaby's from the suburbs (45 minute drive) to have lunch or dinner. Since I was in the area at breakfast time I thought why not. Mistake... I ordered the breakfast place with sausage and biscuits, expecting light and fluffy biscuits and great tasting sausage patties. Nope. I got sausage links and biscuits drowning on top with some type of sweetened butter, I think. It caused a really odd taste combination. The breakfast potatoes were diced potatoes but covered in so much coating they looked like croutons, and there was no potato taste bc they were so covered. Oh well, lesson learned. I need to start asking if the sausage is patty or link (this is Texas so you'd think you wouldn't have to ask if they're serving sausage patties or not , and I guess bc if you're in the loop you have to ask about how each ingredient is cooked. I have been a Barnaby's customer for years. I lived around the corner from the original location on Fairview many years ago. The Good ~ Barnaby's food and quality both consistently above average. The food has always made me think of home cooking. I also always felt prices were really reasonable and the amount of food is usually too much. I haven't visited much in quite some time. Largely due to geography. I am now working very near the River Oaks location. Today was my second time to order take out over the phone. The first visit I ordered the Chinese Chicken salad, 1 extra dressing, and 1 Topo Chico. I was a bit blown away that the bill was very near $30, including a small counter tip I left. I remembered thinking, Oh, I think I could have ordered a half salad. Today, I decided to try again. I order the ham sandwich, a side salad in place of chips (extra cost, I'm sure), 1 extra dressing and a Topo Chico. Again, the bill was basically $28 and I left a $2 counter tip. The sandwich was good. I couldn't eat the salad as there were no utensils or napkins in the bag. The bad ~ just overpriced for what it is. I would have made that decision in advance if prices were posted on the online menu. They are not. You are also not given an itemized receipt, so I am left guessing at the cost of things. It looks like the extra dressing and the Topos took me over the top!! I guess, as they used to say "if you have to ask the price - you can't afford it"! Really enjoyed Barnaby's Cafe! Such good comfort food, the service is quick and friendly, and the vibes are very homey--reminds me of the diners in my hometown. We started off with the strawberry lemonade, which was incredible. I could truly drink a whole jug of it. We also got the sweet potato fries, which were delicious, and paired really well with the provided barbecue sauce. For our main courses, we ordered the Green Chile Cheese Burger and the Luna's Meat Lasagna. I was kinda disappointed by the burger--it was pretty bland, and they could have seasoned the meat more. It wasn't bad, though. The lasagna, on the other hand, was amazing. We also took the carrot cake home for dessert, and it was so so good! The cake was moist and flavorful, and not at all overpowered by the icing (an issue I find many carrot cakes suffer from). Overall, really recommend this restaurant. read more

As with the last 20 years, Barnaby's, at any location is my go to spot. We average Barnaby's 1-2 times a week. Our absolute reason for continuing to go back so frequently is the amount of chicken served in the salads and chicken dishes. 2 nights ago, we got home and weighed it. 15.6 oz. That's 3 meals of protein in a day, perfect for heavy lifting. In the last years when I wasn't heavily lifting, chicken salad with chicken, their burger, club sandwich etc. Don't sleep on their ribs. You definitely pay a premium amount, but at $19 for the grilled chicken breasts meals that average 11-15oz, that's 2-3 meals. Never had an issue with Barnaby's except for a guy at the Fountain View location that didn't believe me an order was messed up and I had called it in the previous night immediately to let them know and told me to come by the next day. That's 1 out of ~60 meals recently. I have not had that ratio of positive experiences at any restaurant post Covid. read more

This is a simple city cafe kind of place. Nothing fancy, nobody posing, food is tasty, prices are reasonable. Parking is small, but otherwise no complaints. They have a good club sandwich, good fries. Small salads are more than big enough (not even sure what the big salad looks like but I'm assuming you sit in it to eat it). The Mediterranean salad could use some cucumber and less chicken but otherwise good. Great service. It is just a very enjoyable spot for good, easy food or relaxing with friends while eating. read more

I had the chicken salad sandwich with basil pesto lettuce tomato and red onion. A total 180 from what I'm used to. The chicken salad was pretty good with not an overpowering amount of mayo. The basil pesto was a light touch and didn't compete with the chicken salad. Good balance. However the red onion took the sandwich to another upper level. Worked really good with the sandwich. But it seemed to miss something I thought to bring the flavors out more. To my surprise a good sprinkle of salt and some fresh cracked black pepper was the key ingredient. This location would be amazing if management wasn't so under qualified. I dined in and was stared at constantly by a short server named "JUAN" (he was not my server) & when I finished my meal i expressed my concern to him and he felt embarrassed so after an exchange of words he proceeded (in front of management) / Michelle / to follow me & 13 year old minor brother out the store in a threatening tone, his specific threatening words were to "let's take this outside". Another male (customer) in the restaurant stepped in to help and hold him back & thankfully nothing more came of the situation. The unprofessionalism of the management is something I'll never forget. This transpired Thursday 6-8-23 @ 9:15pm, footage will prove my case & that the server was in fact aggressive in front of other customers and in front of management & he was taken away like an angry toddler instead of reprimanded immediately.
