Our fist time here and I can say this place have one of the best breakfast in Houston, planning on coming back and try lunch and dinner.

This review is long overdue. I cannot describe how awesome Barnaby's is! At most Houston restaurants, one can't help notice shrinking portions, increased prices and diminished quality so it's always refreshing to come to Barnaby's and find none of that to be the case:) The food stays consistently delicious, the portions are HUGE, and the quality has remained at an exceptionally high level since the 90s, I believe. Props to y'all Last night was the mother of all cheat meals. This was a death row-quality meal;)) Every year or two, I weaken and eat a hotdog. OMG, good choice! If you haven't had one yet, what are you doing with your life? LOL... Forget Beck's Prime, forget Costco, THIS is the glizzy! Whether you get it Texas style with chili and cheese, or regular, it's huge, grilled to perfection and very delicious. The chili is great too. The hotdog is so good though, next time I'll get it without chili. But also, the chili is so phenomenal, it needs to be eaten in a bowl with cheese and crackers! And if you like sweet potato fries, you're in for a major treat! Probably the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. Make sure to order them extra crispy. Also, if you dip them in their queso, you'll go straight to heaven. Best food combo in a longgg time. Get it! Ended the meal with a chocolate chip cookie. Very mid. Skip it. Go to Grand Lux for their warm chocolate chip cookies. NO ONE can compete and once you've had it, everything else is meh.. :/ So that was last night's order. I gained a pound. #worthit :0) lol... I've also had their turkey burgers which are delicious! The chopped salad is one of my favorites. Great chicken sandwiches and clubs. Homemade ranch dressing to die for. Barbary's never disappoints no matter what is on the menu food is always great this particular location stops breakfast at 10:30 so if you want breakfast be there on time .Location is clean and staff is great Dodd was fresh a delicious we got a mushroom burger and not sure but chicken with rice and broccoli everything was fresh, don't hesitate to stop by you won't be disappointed and there breakfast is great as well. First review of 2020! My first time at Barnaby's Cafe as well, lots of firsts. So I stopped into this particular location because I wanted to be in the area for the Elite event later that evening and of course because I wanted food. There were only 4 patrons inside when I arrived. Very chill environment. You seat yourself, which I didn't know at first but anywho I picked a booth and checked out the menu. They have a good amount of options for those living a vegetarian lifestyle. I ordered the chipotle black bean burger with sweet potato fries. I have discovered my second favorite black bean burger- absolutely delicious! The food was fresh and it tasted delicious. Prepare to receive a huge serving of fries, I ended up with a small to-go box full. The service was great, my water glass remained full and the green tea I ordered did the trick. The bathroom area is a little small. Pretty good amount of parking spaces on the side of the building as well. Would love to return and sit outside. I'd recommend! read more

Deliciousness! I've always heard barnabys was super good but I didn't know it was THAT good. We order the chicken Tinga quesadillas, Mac n cheese, Asian Spicy wings, and a bacon cheeseburger. Guy in the front was nice however I asked about getting a double espresso with whipped cream to go - what resulted was a shot in each cup and respective whipped cream. Really weird. Also a let down was that they are nespresso pods - not actually pressed ground espresso. I could've gotten that anywhere. And I'm visiting from Hawaii lol. Just be aware that even though it says "cafe" in "Banaby's Cafe", you're going to get nespresso pods for espresso... aloha. read more

Do you luv breakfast? If the answer is yes, then you gotta try this place. Yes, the parking can be tricky and there are very limited outside tables but the service is friendly and the food is delicious. And it is a dog friendly patio. I ordered the Breakfast plate and substituted the bread for a pancake (over easy eggs - perfect, crispy potatoes and crisp bacon, fluffy pancake with bonus strawberries). I noticed that the hours state on Yelp that they are closed from 7am - 10am. This is not true. They are open for breakfast from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Tuesday thru Sunday. I live two blocks away and go for breakfast frequently. Try the Green Eggs with spinach and artichoke hearts, along with Monterrey Jack cheese, crispy breakfast potatoes and chicken apple sausage. It is my fave breakfast and has been for twenty years. As good as the lunch and dinner menu options are, the breakfast is resplendent. read more

Stopped by here for lunch. There were a few details that pushed it from 4 stars to 5 stars. First, the service was excellent and everyone was so friendly. The place is so cute and decorated with pictures of the cute dog that the restaurant is named after. The food was good! We had a burger and egg salad sandwich and each got side salads. The side salads are HUGE for a side salad and they give you TWO dressings which we didn't even use but it was a nice touch. Also the croutons are delicious. Another nice touch was i had ordered an ice tea and the waiter brought a to go iced tea when we were finished! They also have menus for your dog! How cute! UberEats Review - I don't order from this cafe often, but when I do it's usually a good experience. The food is always packaged nicely and no spillage ever. They always get my order right, so no complaints there. I only dock one star, because the food is a bit bland at times. I always order the Pesto Chicken Salad with Artichoke Hearts and it is good, just not the best I've had. My boyfriend ordered their steak once and the Honey Baked Ham sandwich. Both were good, but not the best we've had/nothing spectacular. I would definitely order from here again next time I'm in Houston, and maybe even pay them a visit in person. read more

The River Oaks location of Barnaby's is a trusty neighborhood spot. In these COVID-y times, with late work-from-home hours, their to-go meals are always filling and perfectly prepared. The burgers are a great standby, but my personal favorite is the Barbeque Chicken Breast with fries and cinnamon apples. Barnaby's fries are easily some of my favorite in Houston. And Barnaby's cinnamon apples are not to be missed -- somewhere between a side and a dessert, they always make my day. Unfortunately, we haven't had luck dropping by at a time when there are open tables outside so our doodle could try the puppy menu. Hopefully sometime soon! read more

I was meeting a friend for lunch here. I got there about 10 minutes before she did. I walked in and although there were 4 to 5 employees behind the counter, not one of them greeted me. I sat down by the door and waited for my friend. Never once did an employee speak to me. However, when my friend showed up (she is a regular), they couldn't have been nicer. The salad was excellent. I would give this place zero stars if I could. This is the one on Shepherd. Got there 12:30ish on a Friday, both tiny parking lots were full. We found street parking a couple blocks away. There were no patio tables open so we sat down to wait on some benches in the hot sun. The waitress said there was supposed to be an umbrella, said she'd check but she never came back. After a while I went in, asked someone if there was an umbrella, she said she'd check but also never came back. Btw, my dog is part Saint Bernard, part Siberian Husky, part German Shepherd. This is not a good dog to be left sitting in the hot sun. While we're waiting, some guy wanders out smoking a cigarette (you're not supposed to smoke on the patio). Social butterfly BF chats with him. The guy invites us back to his table says he's waiting for his girlfriend. He has a bottle of wine, says I can have some, pours me a glass. (it was a cheap chardonnay and not very good) After several minutes we realized a couple things. One, the guy was very drunk and probably was already drunk when he showed up at the restaurant. Two, we didn't think any girlfriend was going to show and he used that as a ploy to get them to serve him a bottle of wine. Third, it became increasingly difficult to get our waitress or anyone else to wait on us. We flagged her down, said we knew what we wanted; she expressed a desire to go wait on two new tables but took our order reluctantly. We were like, we're not with him, just do our tab separately. Yeah, a table opened up next to us and BF and I discussed should we move to it? Will drunk guy get offended, will the waitstaff let us? Quandary mooted as the tables were quickly reseated. After several more long minutes a couple more things happened. Guy was smoking at the table, waiter came to tell him to put the cigarette out, said he was cut off (from any more alcohol), brought his check. It was clear they wanted him to leave. We peeked at his check, there was one bottle of wine on it and I had had a glass from that bottle. Did I mention this guy was really drunk? Then. They served the table behind us. The party that came in half hour after we did. I strongly objected about this. They were like we'll check. Came back. This is the kicker. Said our order was not turned in because we were seated with the drunk guy. What part of "we're not with him, we only sat at his table cause you didn't have a table for us and left the two of us plus my dog sitting in the hot sun" did you not understand? This is where I said, "Fuck this, we're leaving". So we did. There is a better ending to this, a little further down Shepherd is Backstreet Cafe, I said let's have lunch there as we passed by. Barnaby's carrot cake never disappoint; the cake is moist, the icing is just right, not too thick or heavy. We love how many layers the cake comes with, it is a perfect slice to be shared with your loved ones. I also ordered a salad. Huge portion! Even though the price itself is little higher than other places, it is worth it given the amount of food you get and it contains a variety of different fresh ingredients and lots of cheese. Causal seat yourself spot no frills cafe, the staff is very welcoming and friendly. You can def tell this is a neighborhood favorite. The food was GOOD..! Had to taste what dish my friends had and all were good. Had the fob. Salad and the portions were huge! lol took some of it home. Parents were in town and we needed a space to bring the dog for lunch. I've heard good things from Barnabys so we'd thought we could try it. The parking is a bit messy, we ended up parallel parking about two blocks away which wasn't that bad. We had to wait for a table and we're directed to the waiting area outdoors (very hot and not a lot of shade). When there was an open table outside, they started to give it to a family who just showed up (no reservation) and we asked if the waiting list was in order and they asked the other family to wait instead. The food was great, the dog food was throughly enjoyed, it wasn't super hot with the umbrellas and fans, and the dishes and bill were pretty fast. Overall pretty okay experience? Some of the best spinach dip I have ever had! Black bean burger was on point. Yummy sweet potatoes fries. Side salads are huge, about the size of a meal, so my kids were too full to even eat their grilled cheese sandwiches. They weren't impressed with the grilled cheese, but I couldn't tell if it was because they were already full or if the sandwich simply wasn't good. I didn't try it honestly. And very accommodating staff. When I said it was too cold in the restaurant, they turned down the air conditioning for us. Waitstaff was very friendly. At this location, there is no outdoor games, blocks, foozeball table, like at the binz location. But I'll come back for the spinach dip. read more

We stopped by for a quick lunch and sat outside (weather was nice). It seems a popular place, but still not quite sure why. They've got a great-looking menu, but meh. We shared the mac and cheese (pretty good but could have used a little kick/some seasoning). I got the Turkey Burger and it was nearly inedible - burned to a crisp, super dry. Their fries were fine. This is the second time I've ordered from Barnaby's on Shepherd and had a long hair in my food. Last time, I took one bite out of my black bean burger and there was a strand of hair, so I threw it out. I have long hair so I assumed it was mine and didn't complain; however, today, I had a tuna fish sandwich and again had a long strand of hair in it. It was my last bite so I thought it was mine, but I gave the other half of the sandwich to my mom and she saw the long strand of black hair. My hair is not black. This is just plain disgusting. You cannot go wrong here. I've had breakfast at several of the locations and never been disappointed. The portion size and the price equals an excellent value. The service has always been friendly. I love the unique options on the menu--there is something for everyone. This is the first time I'd been to this location. We sat outside and it was a beautiful day. I opted to get the traditional breakfast for $9.95 and if you tell me there weren't half a dozen eggs scrambled on my plate I will call your bluff. I ate about half of the a scrambled eggs, most of the perfectly crisp hash brown potatoes, both biscuits, and most of the sausage. I brought home enough food for a whole extra meal/breakfast. The coffee is also excellent! If your appetite is hearty, you will love it here. I look forward to returning many times again in the future. read more
