This is a great place for brunch, lunch or dinner. The menu is pretty diverse ranging from salads and hamburgers to lasagna and Mexican style goods. I normally get the Tuna salad sandwich and French fries. The fries are so good!! They come seasoned and if you liked seasoned fries, you can ask for a side of the seasoning to really spice it up! And a side of ranch for the fries :). The tuna has pecans and a few other things to not make it your normal tuna, but a little more flavorful. It is a large serving, so if you are not hungry, as for a to go box. The chicken La Jolla is my next fave! You will have a wait during peak hours and on weekends. They do have an outdoor area to sit; heaters in the winter and umbrellas in the summer. Dog friendly of course. Great little cafe vibe as a whole! read more

I tried the meatloaf & normally I'm a fan of meatloaf in general but I wasn't a fan of the chunky tomatoes on top of the two slices of meat at Barnaby's. The mashed potato was pretty bland. I ate a third of the plate & decided to box up the rest in hopes I can salvage the food at home by adding more ingredients to it. Staff was on top of refilling the adult glasses but not the kids' lemonade. That could be a positive or negative thing depending on how you look at it (very much a positive thing if you're a parent trying to limit sugary drinks for their kid). Restaurant felt hot to me. I was sweating the entire time I was in the establishment. My thighs were sweating & it certainly didn't feel good in the chair. Can't say I'd recommend going here since I didn't enjoy sweating the entire time I was trying to eat the unusual tasting meatloaf. read more

I've always loved Barnabys but the quality has gone down as they've expanded. I ordered the meatloaf, which years passed I loved, hadn't had it in a while, and this time it was horrible. Very dry, tasted weird, took a couple bites and just ate my mashed potatoes. Also ordered broccoli and asked for melted cheese. They gave me cold shredded cheese. I came here specifically for the lemonade. I didnt try any food off the menu although as I looked around the dishes looked very appetizing. I ordered the strawberry lemonade at the counter on entry. The lemonade is squeezed fresh and the strawberry mix is comprised of fresh strawberry puree that is also made in house. It had just the right amount of sweet and tartness. The staff was very helpful and topped off our drinks after we took a few sips. With service like this I understand why the ratings are so high!! read more

First timer and I was super impressed. So many vegetarian options! I went with an elite's pick of the Lebanese dish. It was so yummy, but had olives. I wish they listed that ingredient on the menu or something because olives is one of those things a lot of people do not care for. Anyway, it was perfect sans olives and I cleaned the whole thing. The portion sizes are huge and for the prices listed, it comes out to be really affordable. Looking forward to trying other dishes here. Also the cookie reminds me of the chic fil a version. This spot is pretty nice right in the middle of the Montrose district. It has an outdoor patio with an indoor section as well. Very well maintained and has a feel good vibe to it. We had the Spinach and Cheese Lasagna along with a couple of Vegan burgers. The quantity they provide is pretty good and the lasagna plate can easily fill a couple people happy. The burgers are decent but it's always better to ask them put any extra ingredients you would like based on the options they have. Their waffle fries with blue cheese fondue is a must try! Solid 4 stars for this location. We went there on a hot Saturday, and it was extremely hot! We waited outside since we had our pup, so we did a bit of sweating and we ended up waiting about 30 minutes. We definitely understand the wait, but wish they had more shade outside as there is virtually none! The food was good, as always, and came out in a very reasonable time. I ordered the steak and it was good. Was not cooked how I requested, but it wasn't that big of a deal to me as I don't mind either way. Would have preferred medium, but I suppose medium-well did the job. My husband ordered the clubhouse sandwich which is delicious too!! He always order it with chips and an EXTRA honey mustard. I completely agree with this because they have the best honey mustard I've ever tried. Service was good, but not the best ever had though. He missed a few things. The clubhouse sandwich came with fries instead of the chips we asked for, had to ask another server to fix it. I asked for extra sugar and it didn't come. Also asked for the check and it took about 8 minutes from asking for the check to actually getting the tab back to sign. I was ready to leave, so this was a bit annoying. I used to love this place. My folks live in Sugar Land and when they come into town, we'd go here as it is just a few blocks from my house, but things have started heading in the wrong direction. Last week, I went with a neighbor and had the meatloaf, mash and spinach as I had many times in the past. All the table salt and pepper couldn't fix the blandness of the protein. I don't understand how meat loaf can be messed up... I liked ordering the meatloaf as it is a large portion and I always take it home for lunch the next day, but the spinach was overcooked or reheated, to the point it had the easy to avoid iron bite. Today, the family arrived and we did our run up. My parents always split the cobb salad. Again, the portions are enough for them to eat well and take some home and they enjoyed it. Given my experience with last weeks meatloaf I decided to go a different route with a burger, which at first glance was beautiful. As I'm adjusting the tomatoes, onions, lettuce, a solid white / blonde hair, with root attached appeared. I informed the staff, and they were super apologetic, genuinely, and they offered to comp anything on the menu, but I was already put off by the iced tea, as I was under the weather and couldn't risk a food borne bug. I came here with my sis on a beautiful Saturday morning to catch up with one our friends and her baby boy. First off, parking is limited to their small lot. Thankfully, we were early enough to grab a spot. Inside, it's very casual. This is the only place I know that separates breakfast from lunch times. If you come here after 11 am, you're no longer able to order breakfast. Just lunch. I made sure we ordered before then. I've been wanting to try this place for so long. Their breakfast menu is pretty big as well. I knew I wanted eggs. Somehow, I ended up ordering the falafel scramble (it sounded interesting) and the chicken apple sausage. My sis ordered their blueberry pancakes with a side of sunny side up eggs and fried potatoes. My friend ordered just their grits and eggs for her and her son. Anyway, when these dishes came out, I could not believe how massive they were. Each breakfast entree could feed 2 people. Had I known this, I would've ordered way less. Aside from the behemoth size, the food was just ok. I'm not sure if I ordered the wrong dish. But, the falafel scramble way quite dry. I don't know if falafel and eggs go together. The saving grace was the ketchup I was able to dip these eggs into that added the much needed moisture to help them go down easier. The hummus was just good on its own. It really didn't fit as a dip compared to the ketchup. The chicken apple sausage was also good, but not great. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed their fried potatoes. Crispy outside and soft inside. I definitely dipped these babies in ketchup too. My sis enjoyed her pancakes. But, she didn't think it was the best pancakes she's ever had. Coffee here was decently good as well. I think I may need to try other items on their breakfast menu to really get a better sense if I like this spot or not. For now, it's sort of a plus minus for me. I think I've been extremely spoiled by Dish Society's breakfast/brunch food (best ever!). Regardless, come check them out. Love lunches at Barnaby's! This location of Barnaby's is one of my favorite lunch spots in Houston because of the patio and because the menu has something to please everyone, and everything is delicious! You can never go wrong going to Barnaby's with a large (or small) group. My favorite items on the menu are the salads. There a ton to choose so you will never get bored - just be sure to order the smaller size unless you are really hungry or sharing with a friend (trust me!!). The service here is always super friendly and quick, but pre-pandemic the inside dining room always felt super packed, so sitting outside was best. Overall Barnaby's is a Houston gem! read more

Was very disappointed with my visit I ordered the fries with blue cheese and feta. I told the waiter no bacon of course it had bacon. He took the order back and told the cook we didn't want bacon. It looked like they had words the he brings us our fries. I started eating when I started noticing pieces of bacon in our fries. When the waiter brought our food. I noticed him that our fries still had bacon and that I'm deadly allergic to bacon. He went back to the kitchen and told the cook. Thats when I over heard the cook say in Spanish I don't give a shit. This could have been really dangerous for me. I could have ended up in the hospital with thousands of dollars in medical bills. All because of an employee who was in a bad mood. Oh man, it seems I've been remiss in my Yelping obligations (yet again)! The always lovely Camille P. hosted an UYE here forever and ago (well, more like a few months ago?) and although I actually enjoyed the food and experience, I never bothered to Yelp about it. Tsk tsk! Anyway, the Yelpers of course were fabulous, duh. Barnaby's was excellent about accommodating our rather large group and the service was pretty tip top. I am not sure as the source or reason for this - it was a bit warm inside. In that I was kind of sort of sweating balls. Not cool. So the sweet potato fries were rather excellent - NOT disgustingly fried to unpalatable burnt crisps and not limp, cold, and mushy. Per the waiter, the falafel burger is vegan sans the saucy stuff, so I ordered it such accordingly. It arrived a dense fried chickpea patty with a pretty dressing of veggies and white hamburger bread. My friend quipped that it looked inedible, but really it was rather nice. Falafel isn't something that can easily be screwed up, but it is still possible, let me tell you! The falafel burger was definitely tasty and still satisfying as room temperature leftovers later on in the day. From the looks and sounds of it, everyone else was pleased with their food, no complaints. Well the only complaint being of course . . . the heat. I'm sure that's been remedied by now. Like what some other reviews have said before me, this place doesn't disappoint! The food is fresh and the portions are large. You come in hungry but you leave happy. This place also has an awesome hipster vibe and some really creative takes on the food that they do. One thing for sure, you will never look at the menu here and think this is boring standard food. One of my favorite items that I've had here has to be the waffle fries. Oh my goodness they were so delicious! I'm drooling just thinking about them. When you see waffle fries, the first thought that comes into your head is probably Chick-Fil-A. But these are like those fries on a whole different level. These fries are fried crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, the perfect textural contrast. On top of that, you heap on delicious blue cheese crumbles for some of that wonderful cheesy funk and a fantastic house gravy that is rich and creamy, you are literally in french fry heaven. Once you start eating, you just don't want to stop until you have scraped every last bit off of the plate. Truly a fantastic place that people should go to! :) read more

For this invention alone they deserve the Nobel Prize for food. They had some great desserts on the menu, but I was pretty full. Voila comes a brownie bite, like 2.99 for like a 3 bite brownie and a mini scoop of ice cream. EXACTLY the size I wanted, I got to get dessert but. It hit the spot! I was totally craving a chicken sandwich after hanging with Yelpers at West Alabama Ice House. We took out our handy iphones and searched on our Yelp apps! Up pops Barnaby's and off we went! We arrived around 9pm on a Saturday night, found parking in the small lot, and were seated right away. There are tables and booths, we opted for a 1/2 booth. The waitstaff (all male) were friendly and accommodating. They were very attentive throughout our meal. I LOVE that there is a dog friendly patio outside and November is the perfect month to eat alfresco with your pooch. I'll be bringing my adorable Shih-Tzu, Keely, back for lunch sometime soon. We sat down and ordered. I wanted the equivalent of a BBQ burger but with chicken. The waiter said sure thing. My husband got the turkey burger. Our food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. It hit the spot! The portion sizes are generous, but weren't off the charts for our meal (as others have noted). I'm craving my chicken bbq sandwich as I write this and it hasn't even been 24 hours. The fries were yummy as well. We ordered diet cokes which come in cans and a big glass of ice. it's the same at the Barnaby's on West Gray. I wonder why. I think out waiter had just the write amount of attentiveness. Sometimes you go somewhere and you never see your waiter, other times you feel like they are part of the family. This waiter did a great job of checking on us without being intrusive. One strange item of the night: Our check was very old school (see photo). It's a good thing that the overall number looked right, because I had no idea how he got to our total. After we got our check, I said I wanted to go ahead and get a rice krispy treat and he gave us one on the house since he'd already tabulated our bill (most likely with an abacus or slide rule using cuneiform). I brought the rice krispy treat home and tried it that night. It wasn't good. I think it was getting a bit stale, possibly why I got it free? All in all, it was exactly what we were craving. As a dog lover I love this place, this was the second time we went there, every server looks very friendly. They told us to seat wherever we want, we chose our table and the server didn't took even a minute to get at the table, we order some lemonades strawberry and regular, both are good but a little bit sweet, because was the 2nd time there we didn't know what to order because everything looks delicious, finally we got small house salad and Hickory smocked chicken, both were excellent the house salad is big enough and the homemade ranch is so good!!. The chicken was on point, came with mash potatoes ( a little salty) and apples with cinnamon. Service was fast and awesome, thank you so much. Such a horrible experience that we decided not to eat. We waited just about 45 mins to be seated. After we sat we waited a few minutes more just to be greeted by a server in such a hurry (from the looks of it, it was not super busy at the time.) She did not introduce herself, (blonde waitress working the outside area.) It was my friend's first time at Barnaby's and she asked the waitress if she could inform her of what certain salads consisted of and the waitress replied "are you serious? That would take me a year to do" and proceed to say we can go on google and search the menu for the information. Also, I tried to clarify my order with her before she rushed off but instead she said "I got it I got it" and a few minutes later she came back and asked me to repeat my order... if she hadn't cut me off in the first place my order could have been placed properly the first time. Once the server slapped her thigh after we asked for dressing for our salads it was the final straw. The waitress seemed frustrated for whatever reason. Her attitude was very nasty. I have never received such service from the Binz location. I will never return to this location. read more

I came here a while back with my friend. This place is dog friendly so my friend took her small pug puppy here. This is a good place to bring dogs if you have any and want to dine in. We sat outside and it seemed like it has some nice seatings. I normally go to the baby Barnaby's for breakfast and always enjoyed my food. This is owned by the same owner. I had ordered the lasagna but did not enjoy it and had to return It for a different item I believe I got the spicy Asian wings which was much better. For dessert I ordered a chocolate brownie topped with Vanilla Ice cream and a rice krispies treats. Both were quite tasty. I don't come to this place that often so my review is just based on the few times I've been there I might need to come back a few more times to try other items to have a better over all review. read more

It stated that everything natural, hormone- and antibiotic-free, etc. etc. Nice to know. Responsible sourcing, that's good. Lunch options mostly consisted of appetizers (fries, spinach artichoke dip, chicken tinga quesadilla, soups, side salad, mac n cheese), burgers (meat and vegetarian), plated dishes (lilke meatloaf, chicken, lasagna, salmon, etc.), sandwiches (turkey, BLT, etc.), Tex-Mex, and dessert. At first, nothing sounded too appealing, especially at the $10+ price tag (sandwiches being just under $10). I ended up ordering the mac'n'cheese and salad while my partner-in-dine ordered the basic burger. Burger came out on a wheat bun with all the fixings (waiter kindly mentioned they only add mayo, you can select mustard if you want) and a side of fries. The fries were lightly dusted with paprika or cayenne pepper. No complaints about the burger, but nothing was special about it. My salad was very large, came with croutons, generous cheese shreds, and bacon. The vinegarette and the bacon made the salad very tasty. The lettuce was not wilted or old either. The salad was fresh and the highlight of my meal. The mac'n'cheese came out in a ramekin and looked good but unfortunately got cold very fast. It used spiral noodles rather than half-moon-shaped, which I really like better. The sauce was a mixture of cheeses and was white. I ate it and thought it was tasty enough but nothing spectacular. It was very saucy, which people like but I don't. It was very monotone in texture, everything being soft and gooey. I had to throw bacon and french fries in it to add texture. Dear Barnaby's Cafe: My recommendation is to throw panko bread crumbs on top of your mac n cheese when you bake it. It really suffers from lack of texture. Overall, decent meal. If you are looking to eat super bad and unhealthy OR super good and healthy, this is your stop! It's a great place where, whoever you are with, everyone can find something on the menu. I love the whole idea behind this restaurant, from one dog lover to other dog lovers, this is a place where dogs are welcome on the patio! The atmosphere is bright and casual. The menu offers lots of variety. To appeal to my current carb-conscious diet, I ordered the Chicken Mediterranean Salad. Word on the street is this place serves a "large" option of the salad that is absolutely insane. Therefore, I went with the "small" and this sucker was still huge. The flavors all complimented each other very well and it came with tons of shredded chicken. It hit the spot, and I didn't even get through it all. So much food! The atmosphere here is so chill and dog friendly. The dogs make the eating experience so much more enjoyable. If you have dogs then come on over! They also have special dog menus too. The chicken La Jolla here is really good. The chicken so so fresh and juicy. I switched out the sides for sweet potato fries and boy oh boy was it worth it. The crunch crisp texture paired with the sweet potato was delicious. The service here is also super friendly. The service Dominique provided was amazing.
