This is a nice place. I went on a Tuesday night so not a lot of people but it was a good flow. They have a variety of food options. I will say my chicken fried steak surprised me with the jalapeño and jalapeño flavored gravy. I wasn't ready for the spice. It was good but I wish I knew about it before I ordered it. Barnaby's what has happened??? I used to go there 3-5 times a week before COVID. I still make it 1-3 times a week if I'm in town. Unfortunately I've seen a recent decline. They have hit the news with the server's pay getting cut. I understand you have to pay the bills, but it seems like they did it in a shady way. Stopped by today and found out they ended weekend breakfast service without notification. Now their new menu has gone up significantly. So you cut the server's pay and you charge the customers more? Over the past few years, some of the food items have gone down in quality (I'm sure for food costs). How can you tell me this isn't an ownership money grab? Favorite Barnaby's location due to (1) the staff- while all staff across all locations are great people, the Heights local is my main stay. And (2), the chocolate cake. The heights location has the best chocolate cake of all others locals- this version has a creamy velvety chocolate frosting that makes me dream about this f'ing cake. Other locations vary and have more of a hard fondant frosting.,..it may be due to availability across all locations. The server was attentive but not overbearing, kept my tea filled regularly, and was watchful for my needs, bringing napkins, an extra plate, etc whenever it soared something was needed. And the burger - OMG! one of the best burgers I've ever had! It was almost too big but it was worth the handling issues. The guac was fresh and tasty. The fries are the thin narrow fries, which for me is a way to ruin a French fry bc they're just too small to get a good amount of ketchup in them. Went here with my coworkers for lunch the other day. Tasty with a wide variety of options for everyone. We had everything from the hamburger steak, chicken pesto salad sandwich. Cake was great and on special for pride month. The server kept the drinks full. The sodas aren't fountains but canned. The chips with the sandwich were good and I believe homemade. The food was excellent! We ordered a guacamole appetizer, and the flatiron steak and salmon dinners. Everything was perfectly cooked, and portions were large enough that we had a second meal the next day from the leftovers. Barnaby's is a Houston mainstay. The food, in my opinion, is good not great. Salads are huge, menu is diverse, almost like a diner. The best part of Barnaby's, though, is how dog friendly they are! I took my pup (pictured) with some dog park friends for a birthday! We ordered them each their own little plate (chicken, beef, or egg) and they even had ice cream for them at the end. LOVE Barnaby's. I've been a patron of their restaurants since 2006 (I think), and the food, value, and service has always been consistent. I recently went to this location twice in one week - picked up a salad after an evening workout, and then we dropped in for brunch before Sunday errands. The "Lebanese Chicken Fattoush" salad (sans chicken for me) is my go-to. It's $15 and lasts 2-3 meals. You can opt to make any salad smaller for $2 less, but it's worth enjoying the larger portion for multiple servings. The "Green Eggs" (sub turkey sausage for falafel) is another longtime favorite, along with the queso, the FRIES, spinach artichoke dip, albacore tuna sandwich, cheese lasagna... really, there is something for everyone on their menu. Vegetarian options, kid's menu, and there's a dog menu too! Along with Barnaby's being one of the first few restaurants (that I can remember) to feature free-range, grass fed meats decades before it was common at casual restaurants in Houston, Barnaby's is also one of the first major restaurant chain to actively promote their dog-friendly policy - complete with a "puppy menu." It's fitting, since Barnaby's is named after the owner's childhood dog. (If you order the "ground beef & garlic," see if they can remove the garlic, or order something else, as garlic is toxic for dogs.) You're better off ordering the scrambled eggs or sliced chicken breast (plain) over brown rice (plain, no salt!). *Just a reminder, this Heights location is on Heights Blvd near the Wal-Mart - it's no longer the Heights location on White Oak Blvd. read more

Barnaby's is a chain I like to support because of the local community endeavours they support, like their annual participation in Dining Out For Life among other things. I consider Barnaby's to be what they are singing about in the tune "Acceptable in the 80s" - it is acceptable, but is not going to make the same Paris Hilton "hot" lists like Xochi, Guadalajara del Centro, and the Taco Bell on Shepherd which honours your special requests to only give you the "marry me" sauce sachets. As Barnaby's keep raising their prices (and now you have to pay the delivery app fees and driver tip on top of that) I have to reassess the kind of value I am getting. For a $14.95 club sammich before any of the fees start to come in, it is not yet at the price point where it needs to call me sir or go grab my bills from the mailbox to make me feel like it is truly worth it. Yet for a $15 sammich to be entirely unremarkable, that says something. Their turkey burger is remarkable for the toppings and girth of the patty - she is a big lady, one worth writing home about since you are also home if you are honouring quarantine/isolation rules and social distancing. The sammich on the other hand is a sloppy amalgamation of ingredients casually gathered in the general vicinity of each other. There is no special sauce or topping to make it really stand out like the turkey burger. The high point was the quality pickle rick - I should have just ordered a bucket of pickle ricks and I would have been happier. I feel like ordering around the menu at Barnaby's is like russian roulette (sorry we hate the commies again after the solarwinds hack - freedom roulette) where you get something delightful one time in the turkey burger, and something disappointing in the club sammich. Early on in my career a long time I remembered disappointing, bland sammiches to hit the $5 price point even downtown. Three stars is generous and for their local community support. read more

Now that I'm vegetarian, I obviously no longer eat that but I'm so happy to tell you that they have VEGGIE SAUSAGE that you can substitute instead! Came here to treat my pup to some food on his bday. They advertise as if they are "pet friendly" and have paw prints in their logo. When I walked in I was told I would have to sit outside unless it's a service animal (it's hot as balls but okay I did) after my meal I needed to use the restroom and tried to walk to the bathroom with my dog (granted I'm alone) I was told no dogs inside even though I explained i just need to use the restroom and where else am I supposed to leave my animal.
