I've stopped by Cottonwood several times over the years, most recently on a Thursday evening for an organization's happy hour followed by the U.S. soccer game. Parking isn't a problem in the large complimentary lot they have. Ambiance (3/5): Pretty much your typical patio bar. There's a decent-sized indoor area, but most of the action is on the spacious patio. There's plenty of seating and TVs... which made for a good spot to watch the game. Especially since they had the sound on. Service (3.5/5): You order at the bar. No waiter service that I noticed. Typically there wasn't much of the line, but it was congested at one point throughout the night. Food (3/5): We split their Alabama white wings and crawfish fries. Pretty much your average bar food. Generous portions. Decent prices. The crawfish smelled a little funky though. Drinks (3/5): Since a sporting event was going on, I stuck to beer. They have a pretty decent selection of brews on tap, including quite a few Texas beers. Along with some standard ones and some European selections. They had a Modelo special where you got to keep a commemorative boot-shaped glass. Pretty cool! Overall, pretty much run-of-the-mill in my mind. read more

Brunch at Cottonwood is always a good idea. I stopped in recently for brunch and ordered the egg plate along with a cold brew coffee--simple, fresh, and exactly what I was craving to start the day. The food came out quickly, and everything was cooked just right. What made the visit extra special was meeting up with friends I used to come here with. Sitting together and reminiscing about all the events we've attended here over the years reminded me why this spot has always been such a favorite. The patio is absolutely fantastic--spacious, relaxed, and perfect for lingering conversations over coffee, mimosas, and yes even espresso martinis. Even though it's counter service, the experience never feels rushed. You order, grab a seat, and just enjoy the atmosphere. Cottonwood has that rare ability to feel both lively and laid-back at the same time. Great food, great patio, and even better memories. I read the reviews and looked at pictures and was intrigued to try the food. Originally I looked it up under Element htx but the sign said Cottonwood. It was plenty of parking and not too many people there so we walked in to make sure we were in the right place. We walked in and no greeting. I walked to the bar. The bartender said its the same spot. Element is just the kitchen. He told us to sit down for the food but go to the bar for the drinks. We sat and waited over 20 minutes and not one person came to even greet us or bring us water. I watched one server sit and text on his phone forever. No one else even acknowledged us. The food was good. I got a patty melt, grilled cheese and the loaded fries. The patty melt was amazing and my daughter destroyed the grilled cheese. I've been to Cottonwood with friends twice now and enjoyed the experience both times. For my first visit, we went for brunch and were surprised at how crowded it was and how many people had their dogs there - we loved it! The atmosphere is very casual and is nice for just unwinding with some drinks. We grabbed a spot at an outdoor table during brunch and ordered a mimosa carafe. The carafes aren't large so we ended up ordering two but they're on special on Sunday so it was $12 for two carafes. For food, I ordered the Mascarpone French Toast which looked great. I can't say the french toast is an item I'd order again though, it had an odd consistency or texture. The second time I went was for drinks and an app. I ordered the frozen Blood Orange Margarita which I was excited to try. I do with they would ask about the rim though because they automatically put tajin on it which wasn't noted on the menu and I really don't like Tajin. We also ordered the fried okra which is great. We came to Cottonwood today for crawfish and their beer pitcher deal. The crawfish was great and the opener at the bar was great! At one point, the bar manager with blonde hair in a black hoodie got really nasty and accusatory with me when I asked as to why one of the beers on the taplist wasn't included in the brunch deal. I thought I was as polite as possible, but she was very rude in response. There was certainly a misunderstanding. We discussed the misunderstanding and I very politely apologized for the confusion. Later on she mocked me and referred to me as her friend and buddy. We had excellent service aside from the blonde woman in the black hoodie who was treated with the upmost respect all day. So I really liked this place, therefore a friend and I came back on a Sunday around 3:30. Mimosas were $10 even though last time we were there it was $5 all day.. so I was a bit confused by that. No one and no signs to say totally self-service--paying customers get their own menus, napkins, cutlery (and some were dirty), ordering at the counter. Counter help was discourteous and curt. Btw--no to-go cups. Server was not friendly and short as well. My order came out fairly soon after ordering, but someone in my party with same order had to ask at the counter twice about hers. Brunch plate came with just my croissant sandwich plopped in the middle of the bare dinner plate. No garnish of an orange slice or anything. Our group was very disappointed. Unfortunate for Cottonwood because we eat out after church every Sunday. Not here again! I really enjoyed this bar! My brother and I visited Cottonwood for the first time because of a Filipinx yoga event, and really enjoyed it. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and it was really nice to enjoy the sunshine with some drinks and grub. Their spicy chicken sandwich was huge! It wasn't necessarily spicy by any means, but we really enjoyed the garlicky flavor. Loved the seasoned shoestring fries as well. BOURBON BACON BURGER $15 - [spinach And White Cheddar Cheese Topped With Our House-Made Caramelized Onion And Bourbon Bacon Jam] - bfs burger was good. Bacon jam was sweet/tangy. There is no bacon despite the name. The BFF (beef fat fries) that came with it, however, were super salty. we couldn't even finish them. You could already tell they had too much salt by looking at them. There are enough fries to share though. Chicken fried chicken $14 - Wednesday special. Came with mashed potatoes and green beans. CFC wasn't bad. It was crunchy and ok size (not as big as lubys though). I should've gotten the gravy on the side since it made the chicken less crunchy, and they put too much. Also, both the chicken and gravy were salty. The green beans were the saltiest ever!! Came to watch the Astros and Cowboys, also came hungry. Prior to arriving check the menu online and was looking forward to trying it all ( with a friend). The food was very underwhelming. Pretzel bites were fried way too long lost all the flavor and no truffle was on them, the Mac n cheese noodles were over cooked and was served lukewarm, the bbq bourbon burger was good but the fries were lukewarm and limp. The food was absolutely amazing from here. Elevated comfort dishes like chicken fried steak, bacon wrapped steak, grilled wedge Caesar salad. All of it was extremely delish. The vibe is totally perfect for a date or gathering with friends. There's tons of space. Inside and out. A great spot for a party too! The service was also great but it's more of a self service type of spot which isn't a bad thing. They have to go containers & grab your own utensil bar in the inside and outside so it's great to not have to wait for a server. Overall, I'd highly recommend it for a fun night out. The atmosphere is great if you want to grab some drinks or also want to order food. Want to bring your dog? Go ahead. Want to bring your kids? That's also a go. Big outdoors, but also has a small inside. They have rotating beers which is always awesome with a good selection of local options. We also really enjoyed their mules. If you want food, personally the winner was the broc-O-flower for us! Never had something like it, and it definitely impressed our table. The chicken was also really good with great breading and tender on the inside. The tots had a great crisp but could have used a little more salt in my opinion. Overall, I don't think you could go wrong with any though. Hopefully I get around to coming back and trying more things. read more

Went here for lunch on Saturday. It's a customer only service bar. $6 carafe special on weekends which was my favorite part of the experience. You can read my immediate review on the actual photos. Was really excited about the pork chop. Mashed potatoes and green beans tasted fine. Nothing spectacular. Pork chop tasted phenomenal. However it was just about frozen in the middle and somehow completely overcooked. I assume it was precooked and reheated. Sent it back and it was their last pork chop. Had to settle for Mac and cheese which I had to add crawfish and truffle. I think they left off the truffle. The flavor was not there at all. But Mac and cheese still tasted decent. Came in for a bite, first time there. Stood around waiting to be seated until a customer directed us to the bar to order. No menu to be found. Stood for a bit then when bartender went to take our order he stopped in the middle of the order and walked away to give someone some change. Another lady took our order but she didn't seem very happy about it. Sat outside and our appetizer and meal was brought with no silverware no napkins and they walked away. Now because I have not been here before maybe we are required to get our own utensils and refills. Would have been nice if staff had be friendly and offered assistance. It was not busy at all. They have no waitresses and drinks and food must be ordered at the bar with lines very, very long. I love how cottonwood is outdoors. It makes you feel so safe during covid times. It's kid friendly which is a plus! They also have chicken tenders and fries which the kids ate up. I liked the Buffalo cauliflower bites (sorry not pictured) The steak bites were good, but like I mentioned in the photos- the fries aren't crispy!! I would love a more crispy fry. The queso was really yummy! I would order that. It has meat. The chips were a perfect amount of salt. For drinks. I am super into spicy drinks so I got the Paloma. It seems to have gone downhill. :( We've been coming to this place for years, with long stretches between visits. We first found it when it played the final episode of Breaking Bad, and we loved the experience of watching the finale while eating from a creative, thoughtful menu and enjoying a range of cocktails and beers. It had been a while between our last visit and this one. The menu has changed. No squirrel references. No deviled eggs. Just very standard bar fare. The wings were decent-to-good, if lacking in carrots and/or celery. At least until we got midway through the (ranch from a bottle?) dip. And then we saw a super gross hair. The mixed drinks were good, though. But I am sad to say we are probably done with this place. It has a lot of potential, and maybe we just came on an off night. But, yuck. :( read more

I went here on Taco Tuesday. They have chicken and beef fajita tacos for $3 each. Each taco came with cilantro and onion and a wonderfully spicy verde salsa. They were well seasoned and nicely sized. The outdoor atmosphere is great. It's not super busy on weeknights but it's dog friendly and kid friendly as well. They have dog bowls and treats if you want to bring your furry friends. Stopped by this Sunday afternoon to watch the game. There is a posted special listing $6 pitchers of beer. I asked for that. The bartender stated the special ended at 3. It's 6:45p. I ordered two bottles instead. As I walk back to my table I am following a white lady who arrives at her table and begins telling her group that the beer special for $6 ended at 3 but the bartender gave her the special anyway. Came to Cottonwood in search of an bar with food outdoor seating to grab a drink during COVID times. The majority of the space was open air, which was nice. At the time I went, it was slightly earlier so not all the tables were filled and it was easy to find a spot not directly next to any other customers. All the staff I saw were wearing masks. In terms of drinks, their beer list is pretty IPA- heavy, and I wasn't particularly interested by any of the drinks on the cocktail list. The two drinks I ordered - one off the list, one just a normal paloma - were not that great. Also ordered a side of fries for something to snack on, and they were pretty soggy and oily. Overall, I found the food and drink underwhelming. read more
