I visited the next door pickleball bar first because I was originally going to play. That didnt work out since they were slammed with a birthday party and a corporate event that night. FM Kitchen is the same owner and supplies limited food items to PKL. I was still hungry evem though I didnt get to play, so I ended up coming here. They have a larger menu with more substantial items, although it's still a casual environment. I tried the prime chicken fried steak even though the waitress couldn't say which cut of beef it was. It comes with green beans and mashed potatoes which are pretty good. Outdoor seating was full on a nice evening so I had to sit inside. Unfortunately there was a huge birthday party table inside as well, so it was super loud. Just my luck, I came on a bad night for both establishments. I also tried their version of a painkiller which comes in a nice jar and is decent, just not very strong at all. Painkillers are known to be very strong tiki drinks so they missed the mark there. The price was only $10, so you get what you pay for. I recommend they add more alcohol and bump up the price a little for it to be a proper drink. I was a little confused on who the waitress was the entire time as a few different employees came to my table. Also, a 2nd waitress tried to take my order about 5 minutes after I had order. I understand the whole community effort thing, but if theyre going to do that they need to work on their coordination/communication so this doesn't happen. CFS - it was a little on the dry side since the meat was pounded so thin and that basically left mostly breading for each bite. I had a much better version in Ft Worth recently for around the same price and was even larger. The green beans came with sliced raw almonds and sautéed in garlic which were good and the mashed potatoes were decent. Overall, if I ever returned I would try their hamburger since it was another pretty popular choice on the menu. read more

This time around was much better! I was reluctant to eat at this venue as I was attending a friend's event. We had a large party, however, the server was on top of everything. This place is great if you want to have a large event without paying a deposit etc., it has a very large open space and outside patio. They recently added a pickleball area that makes the place more eventful. I chose the wings and celery sticks and I was pleasantly surprised. It was not salty at all. I also had a frozen margarita, 2 in fact! They were strong, and you have the option of adding grand manier. The service was great as she tended to a large party with ease. She checked in us regularly and when it was time to go we were able to pay separately without any issue. Parking was fine as well, I was able to get a spot very quickly. It's the second time I sat in to dine here and the server, Shamira, made the experience uncomfortable and unenjoyable. The first time she gave us attitude about her serving us tea and when we asked for salt she made a comment about how "you really shouldn't eat so much salt." The second time we came in, she approached us decently but then said changed the energy when she said, "What? Are you surprised I'm being nice? I can be mean." When I responded no she mimicked the "no." At the end of the meal I placed my fork and knife on the plate. She then grabbed the fork with a napkin and picked up a piece of chicken and shoved it in my face and said I "missed some protein." Fun place for an alumnae H-APP-Y Hour. Great turnout to support my alma mater and connect with collegiate classmates. Lots of trays of appetizers. Fried pickles. Fried cheese curds. It was a cold and super rainy night, and I needed to eat somewhere that is "somewhat" close to the grocery store. I had previously tried to come here months ago, but it was closed due to your typical busted water main that forced them to close until it was repaired by the city. It was definitely worth the wait! We were greeted with a smile by the hostess, who ended up also being our server. We jokingly told her that we wanted to sit outside, and she said that was great, but she wasn't going to be our server if we did. While some may have been offended by the response, we actually thought it was funny because it was a smarty comment to our smarty request to sit outside since it was cold and rainy out there. Perhaps on a nice day, we will sit out side. Surprisingly for a Saturday night, the place was not very crowded, which was fine by me. I started with the Old Fashioned for a drink and the chicken flautas. The flautas were tasty! They came with a side of guacamole, queso and green salsa. For my meal, I ordered the grilled shrimp tacos, which came with 2 tacos. The portion was just right and the flavor was great! My husband ordered the hot dog and he said it's one of the better hot dogs he has had in a while. We topped it off with the churros for dessert, but honestly we were getting full at that point. The churros, while not the best I have ever had, they were pretty good. They came with a caramel sauce on the side. Great place for a burger! I got the 12 oz. It was nice and juicy. Decent size menu with a good variety to choose from. Next visit I'll try the Brussels sprouts, club sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, or green chili burger. It all sounded good! Ate at the bar and the service was fast and friendly. The place has a sports bar vibe to it. Also a great outside patio that accepts dogs. Feel like pickle ball? PKL Social is right next door and shares the same bar and kitchen. I enjoyed a tasty FM burger and fries here on a lovely Friday night. Like others have mentioned, the 8 oz FM burger was delicious and came with all the yumminess and toppings galore. I also liked that they did not charge extra for waffle vs. regular fries or sauces like ranch and mayo. My friends that tried the appetizer plate and other burgers also shared the overall 4 out of 5 rating, with a minor complaint that more salt could be used in some of the dishes. That being said, this place is right next door to a pickleball facility... so perhaps they are trying to be more sodium conscious. Parking can be a challenge due to the shared lot with the pickleball place, but there was ample street parking nearby. There is plenty of outdoor seating with lots of TVs, making this place ideal to watch a game. They also offer a good selection of drinks and mocktails as well. Arrived on Sat at noon for lunch Reviewed business online first and also to scope out the parking situation since some places in Houston/Heights/River Oaks don't have private parking. Although they stated they had a huge parking lot it really is only about 60-70% marked and usable (see pics) They do not have entire lot marked with parking spaces and really need to have it redone as the spots they do have are very small and my small suv barely fit between the lines. A full size truck or suv would not fit between the marked lines but would still be able to park. When you walk up to bldg they have a huge outdoor space with tables, multiple tvs, covered and uncovered seating, fire pit and allow dogs which is pretty cool. Inside is a large open space nothing special with a few tvs on the wall near small bar area and music playing low as back ground noise. We were seated quickly and the waitress greeted us promptly and answered our questions and brought us waters. We ordered 3 items, 2 FM 8oz burgers and a brunch item chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns. All the food was very good tasted great. Here are 2 odd things in my opinion and it wasn't a deal breaker but I may not return next time when want a really good burger. First when you look at the menu it states FM burger 4oz or 8oz, now I ordered the 8oz (1/2 lb burger) and was expecting a single 1/2 lb patty on a large bun. What I received was a small bun with two 4 oz pattys so basically it was a small double cheese burger! The smaller bun didn't hold all the ingredients well and is hard to hold and the double patties makes it a little harder to eat. A single 8 oz patty on a larger bun would be so much better. They need to fix the menu to state you can order a single or double but not have it read as if you were going to get a single 8oz patty. The other thing is they don't have sweet tea! I know it's not mandatory to have it but 90% of restaurants in Texas have sweet tea. Waitress did offer regular tea and sugar packets. I say if your gonna have regular tea then you need to have sweet tea also or don't have any tea at all. They have cokes/soda in cans so they could stock Arizona sweet tea as an option if they don't want to have to make sweet tea. Overall the waitress was great, service was great, the place has a cool vibe and laid back, not to noisy and we were able to have a conversation without yelling. I will return for a brunch meal or other item but not for a burger. I really love a great Burger but was disappointed with the FM 8 oz burger. read more

I can't believe I live so close and have never been here before! After a birthday disaster with The Toasted Coconut, these guys stepped in to rescue my birthday plans. They have a huge patio with plenty of seating both covered and uncovered, great happy hour specials, a solid cocktail list, and the Harvest Salad (excellent green goddess dressing) was one of the absolute best salads I've had in a long time. I've craved it and gone back a few times now just for that salad. We tried their brunch and the chilaquiles (my favorite) and chicken fried steak was really good. This is a generally okay spot. In our search for a dependable bar food spot in Greater Montrose, we really wanted to like it! The building was modern and tables were clean. Food was okay - nachos got the job done as a starter, and the FM Club sandwich came on some really nice Texas toast. Unfortunately, the chicken in the club gave off mystery meat vibes. A nice grilled chicken filet inside would have been preferable. Solid service which is hard to find these days. I definitely wouldn't avoid FM Kitchen! Together we ordered the wings in Buffalo sauce, fries, and Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were good, were a little on the sweet side but had that nice char on them and were very tasty. When it comes to wings, we've been so underwhelmed with wing places or places that claim to have good wings...it's been awhile since we actually had good wings. The wings here were so good...and I don't say that often! I was debating between the wings and club sandwich...but smelling that wing sauce...done! Sauce was good (medium Buffalo), wing size was good, and they came out hot and fresh and smelled amazing! Fries were nice and crunchy...and came out hot and fresh. You would think how hard is it to make fries...you'd be surprised. Fries were really good! Other people at our table got the smash burger, chicken sandwich etc...couldn't finish them but were happy with their orders. Our bill was a little high, but we ordered apps, entrees and drinks. Locating in the Washington Ave district of Houston. Very large outdoor seating, pet friendly, great food. What could be better! Extremely attentive staff (this is based on one visit). Heat lamps in the winter and fans in the summer. Happy hour 3-6:30 on weekdays. They also have drink and food daily specials, so be sure to check out their website for more details. FM is a solid choice for a variety of good, but not fantastic, food. It's American/comfort food and the menu has evolved over the years. I used to give it 5 starts because of the cost to flavor,but they raised their prices a couple of years ago and consequently the value has decreased. I still contend that it's one of the best burgers in Houston- you have to try the FM burger. Simple but delicious. We also enjoy the elote, the fish tacos are fantastic, avocado toast is good (this has changed over the years) , the fries are almost always great, and the green chili smash burger is always delicious. I long for the days when they had the $7 grilled chicken sandwich! I used to order that every week. I do not like that I have to get my Diet Coke in a can but they have a really good draft beer selection and their mimosas are good. They make a pineapple one that's fantastic (not in the menu). The vibe here is good, it's a cool, really large patio and the indoors is clean and simple. The service has been hit or miss over the years but has been better recently. A bar with great grub and consistent service. This was my first stop after the COVID19 lockdown. Food Most folks don't come here for food presumably as it's certainly a bar, but you're missing out if you don't. The Friday fried chicken special is on point and the FM burgers are nothing to scoff at. They have a simply, but potent S&P flavoring. Perfect for those seeking a solid simple burger. Service I come here probably once a month, typically on a Friday, and it never disappoints. They have fantastic service and I can't say I've ever waited long to get a drink or food order in or delivered after order. Location/Setting The patio is fantastic with TVs and easily spread out with social distancing considered. The place is one of my favorites patio bars. The only downside is on occasion the drive by traffic is a bit obnoxious with those trying to act cool with loud exhausts. If you can get past the occasional disruption to your conversation it's a great space to relax and unwind. Overall This place puts out consistently good food and drinks with plenty of daily specials to make it worth a visit.
