I was surprised by how few people were brunching there this morning, but was very pleased with how quick and courteous the service was. Our waiter was extremely attentive to details and very honest about the different dishes that were most popular and those who were not his favorite. To start, I had the impossible meat samosas. You could not convince me that there wasn't any beef in those perfectly crispy, flaky and flavorful mini bites. I could've eaten much more than the three they came with it. My beef hash was just as good. The meat was tender, and served over an easy cooked egg and savory, peppered potatoes and onions, it was a brunch match made in Heaven. Unfortunately, the cremé brulee French toast was a little bit dry, but the candied pecans that came along with it was good. I was also shocked that they had $20 mimosa carafes and you had the option to pour it yourself or have it prepared for you. For this reason alone, and the spaciousness and the full bar, I don't understand why there were only about three parties in the place on a Saturday morning! It did appear as if there would be a private dinner upstairs later on on because I saw some placemats with the guest of honors name included on them. This would be a perfect venue for any sort of birthday dinner or even brunch wedding reception or something. My boyfriend and I came here for a date night. The hostess, Isabelle, was very nice and seated us immediately. We asked to sit outside since the weather was nice, and the patio was very clean. Our server was Demi, and she was so sweet, personable, and made great recommendations. Her personality was through the roof. She kept us entertained, and was attentive to when we needed another round of drinks. We got the Mediterranean kabob plate as an appetizer, and it was delicious. My boyfriend got a ranch water, and I got a blue jeans & bow ties cocktail. They were all very good! The manager, Ozgar, checked in on us throughout our meal and was very kind as well. I've never seen a manager check in on so many tables on such a busy night! He was very attentive. Overall, we would 1000% come back and specifically ask for Demi. We should've known as soon as we walked in, the hostess wasn't very friendly, which set the tone right away. I thought maybe it was just the Galveston location, but apparently not. Since we were already famished and had paid for parking, we decided to stay. I ordered the brunch breakfast taco trio, which was disappointing. The tacos were tiny with very little filling, though I will say the green salsa was excellent. My cappuccino was also very good, but no one checked in to see if we wanted drink refills or anything else. Our waiter was polite, but the service overall was nothing memorable. What a treat. Service and atmosphere: This restaurant is located in downtown area and its within walking distance from other attractions. There limited pay-for parking space on the street or you can park in the parking structure across the road. Service was really good and friendly. Our server was polite and helpful. Food and drinks: The restaurant offers very good selection of various dishes on their menu. I opted for salmon with sweet potato mash and grilled vegetables. The food was nicely plated and dressed. All components were seasoned very well and accompanied each other perfectly. The burger was executed equally well. We ordered side of street corn with the burger an I must say, this was the best street corn we had in a long time. The restaurant offers open bar with wast selection of different types of alcohol. I was recommended this place and decided to check it out. The food was..a bit inconsistent. For appetizers/shareables we had the Artisan Bread Board which was great when paired with the herb butter. Next we also decided to get the Wagyu Meatballs, these were a bit of a letdown flavor wise, the garlic crostini it came with seemed a bit old and stale and the meatballs were cold when we got them. For the main dish, I tried their Hearsay Cheeseburger, this tasted great and had a lot of flavor! My s/o had a Caesar salad with a side of salmon, both the salad and salmon were pretty dry and the flavor left a bit to be desired. The final dish was a side of their Gouda Mac & Cheese which we had heard so much about, this tasted like box macaroni and came out barely room temp. Finally, for drinks we had their Mint Condition, Ori-Yozu, a glass of their Prosecco, and a glass of their Malbec. The drinks were actually very good, no complaints there! Service was normal, the place was pretty empty when we went and the service wasn't anything exceptional, it was our anniversary and I had left a note with the restaurant but nothing was mentioned or done, not a big deal, but a bit disappointing. Overall the ambiance wasn't good or bad, the place seems better online and when looking through pictures. I don't feel as if you get your moneys worth for the price you pay, which in our case was a bit over $150 and on top of that felt a bit sick after eating, not sure if food was fresh/new or not considering some of our dishes came out cold. read more

I think I may have been here years ago just to experience the bar aspect, at least it looked familiar when I walked in today. I got lucky finding street parking right in front and was able to feed the meter of $4 to cover my 2 hours for working lunch meeting. I was torn between the unhealthiness of a hamburger or going with a salad. I opted for the garden salad with the ahi tuna. It was delicious! The service was solid, and the decor is nice. Thankfully the place wasn't very full because if it was I imagine it would be crowded with tables pretty close together. A little pricey being about $30 with tax and tip for a salad lunch. read more

Came here to celebrate a birthday before walking around to a few cocktail bars in the area. Prior to this, I have only visited 1 of their 8 locations and that location being Hearsay on the Green. I was very impressed with that visit and was excited to try this location as well. I'm not sure if the menus vary much by location, but I tried all different items here. This location is in Market Square and is Houston's second oldest building. built in 1889. It is also their first location. I love seeing places like this still standing and being preserved. Walking in, you immediately notice the beautiful interior with the high ceilings with chandeliers, exposed brick walls and dark woods. It definitely gives off high end vibes while still being a casual spot. This is in downtown, so parking of course is challenging. I was lucky enough to find street parking somewhat close by. They do have a large bar with just a couple of TVs. There were a couple of big games going on, but their TVs are a little on the older side and their cable package didn't pick up what we would have liked to see in the background. Not a big deal. Just don't come here thinking it's a great place to watch some sports. Customer service was great. We came for a late lunch/early dinner, so cocktails were in order. We hung around long enough to where they switched out the brunch menu to their lunch menu. We started off with some Espresso Martinis. They were made just right. For appetizers, we got the Kung Pao Shrimp and Calamari and Deviled Eggs. One of my favorite starters is calamari and what they serve here is good. I love the Asian flavor profile and the addition of bean sprouts, jalapenos and bell peppers. I would have liked if they served more shrimp with it and also if the breading didn't fall off so easily. The deviled eggs were also good. It was topped with bacon jam which gave it a hint of sweetness which complimented it well. We were getting pretty full so I went with the Wagyu Chicago Style Hot Dog as my main. It was a hefty dog served on a toasted brioche bun. The only thing Chicago about the dish was that they served it with giardiniera. I was expecting the sports pepper, neon green relish, tomato and mustard. It was still a great dog either way. It was served with rosemary parmesan fries that were excellent. Overall, Hearsay to this point hasn't let me down. They're located around town so I will be visiting more whenever I am close to one. read more

Don't get me wrong; I'm still a fan of the Hearsay restaurants (mostly, the Galveston location), but things have certainly changed at the Market Square location after the last decade and since my last review. We went dropped in on Friday night after checking out Meow Wolf, and everything was mid. My sparkling wine was flat (sent it back and got a glass of red); the steak was marinated (why would they?); the "gem wedge" salad isn't made with gem lettuce - it's made with iceberg lettuce... and the women's restroom had no handsoap (I popped into the men's to get some). And the music they were playing was all covers. It was just a weird experience that I hope we'll never recreate anytime soon. This was a fun spot to check out while near the theater district. The interior has a historical vibe with modern elements, which was pretty fun. We got the bread board, which featured a delicious jalapeño cornbread. I appreciated that there was a limited but diverse vegetarian section. I tried my first vegetarian muffaletta, which had a good balanced flavor on a great bread. The fries had a nice crispy outside with a soft inside. A FEAST we had for a group of 4! Came for brunch and made reservations ahead of time and was able to be seated right away. Started with with some mocktails. I ordered the Watermelon No-Jito and it was light and refreshing. For starters, we got the Kung Pao Shrimp and Calamari (tasty) and the Ahi Tuna Nachos (loved the gochujang aioli sauce that paired with it and the crunchy wonton chips). For Mains, we ordered the Creme Brulee French Toast (pretty basic, wouldn't get again because there wasn't much of a creamy filling or brulee to top it), the Hearsay Fried Chicken & Waffle (chicken was fried well and seasoned nicely and the waffle was fluffy) and The Short Rib Hash (lots of meat for that protein and was tender). For sides, we got the Mac and Cheese (actually really good for a side, excellent choices of cheese and seasoned), Charred Broccolini and Rosemary Parmesan Fries. For a little extra, we also ordered the Gulf Coast Gumbo (and unfortunately, some people thought it was a bit too salty). They accidently gave us the Roasted Poblano Soup as well and I thought it was smooth/flavorful. Everyone else also enjoyed the Golden Beet Salad. Beautiful interior decor with high ceilings! We visited Hearsay in Downtown for a girlfriend's birthday brunch. Because of the location, parking is tricky. The restaurant itself gave a historic feel but cozy overall! We all opt for mocktails and the faux espresso martini was very delicious! Servers and staff members are very nice and attentive! Our hostess also helped us take a celebratory photo outside the restaurant after our meal. We ordered quite a bit: Ahi tuna Nachos, Kung Pao calamari and shrimp, and beet salad. These appetizers were SO GOOD! Flavor was on point. Sweet, savory, and a bit of spice. Perfect start! We also ordered the crème brûlée French toast and fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was fried perfectly, very juicy! We wish the waffle was crispier. The Crème Brûlée French toast was a standard French toast, we didn't see or taste the crème brûlée part of the toast. Hearsay is one of my favorite places to eat. They have the best gumbo in the restaurant business. This location is one of my favorites. We were meeting a huge group of family and my uncle needs double knee surgery so I asked the manager if we could have the table down stairs. She took care of us, even though it was already taken. Thank you for that! Food: gumbo is top notch. Meatballs are great. Eggs rolls are good. So are he deviled eggs and buffalo shrimp. Everything is made fresh to order. We ended up at Hearsay after hearing good things and wanting to indulge in something a little elevated. When we arrived, we were told a reservation was required to be seated on the weekends, even though the whole downstairs was empty. The hostess, in that same sentence, said she could still get us seated. Our server was very attentive, soft-spoken, respectful, knowledgeable about the menu, and overall, provided the expected type of service for the beautiful atmosphere. We ordered the Southwest Eggrolls, the Redfish with green beans, and their award-winning gumbo. Let's start with the gumbo. My partner who's a proud grandma's boy and usually eats every bite, whether he likes it or not couldn't finish his bowl. That told me all I needed to know, so I tried it myself. The roux was solid, but the flavor was overwhelmed by what tasted like liquid smoke. Not the soulful charred edge that makes gumbo sing, but a sharp, borderline burnt taste that felt more chemical than culinary. And the sausage and chicken were chopped so finely, I had to ask: Is it still gumbo if you need my bifocals to find the meat? The redfish was cooked well but needed salt. It didn't have a wow factor. The green beans were fresh, but again, there was no standout moment. And the Southwest Eggrolls? Here's where I'll be honest: in a place requiring reservations and serving drinks in a chic, moody atmosphere, I shouldn't be left wondering if my appetizer came from a deep freezer. Class was promised, and class should show up in every bite. These were okay, but they felt out of place. Now, I'm not writing this to slam the place. I've worked with chefs, I own(ed) restaurants, and managed kitchens. I know kitchen staff and recipes change, and not every dish is going to hit the spot every time. I just share what we experienced at that moment, and I try to always leave the door open to come back and be surprised, in the good way. I want them to win. I had an ok meal here but unfortunately that was not the case for the whole party. My friend ordered the chicken Milanese and her chicken was VERY PINK and RAW. and it's a grilled breast so it couldn't have been mistaken as anything but raw. The server was very angry for us but the owner seemed to not really be fazed. They did offer dessert and took it off the bill The drinks were strong and tasty. I got the redfish and didn't seem to get any of the crab stuffing it was supposed to come with but the redfish was tasty. The green beans were basic steamed no seasoning green beans. I got a side of rosemary Parmesan fries and my fries were cold whereas my friends were piping hot. The Parmesan was like green bottle Parmesan not fresh. My other friend had the pork chop and liked hers and subbed for fries and corn casserole. The decor is very cute and they were decorated for Valentine's Day. Visited this place for restaurants week. It's a hidden gem in downtime. There is a bar when you walkin to the right and the seating with booth options along the wall. I ordered calamari as my first dish, the snapper as my main course and bread pudding as my dessert. Everything was really good. The appetizer was kind of cold but tasted good none the less. The snapper was good and plated on top of brocollini. The service was kind of slow and our waitress was forgetful. We often had to flag some else down because we were waiting for her to come back. We came here for restaurant week and had brunch. The dishes were meh. Only the soup and salad was worth remembering. They were really good and I enjoyed the cucumber noodle like texture on my salad. The main dishes ... could do better... but they can give you your fix of hash and Benedict's. Just... not something I'll come out here for. The decor of this place is really amazing. I just enjoyed looking around inside the restaurant. Also, clean table and chairs. Our waitress was really sweet and we enjoyed having her. We talked a bit about parking, and like her, we also had to pay for parking. Most of the staff here seem to do street parking but we parked at the theater district garage and walked about 8 mins to this place. We did an all day parking at the garage for $20. What a cute spot! My friend invited me here for dinner and drinks on a Friday evening. I really love the ambiance inside of the restaurant dark, elegant, and industrial. We had reservations and got to sit on the second floor of the restaurant. We sat right by the stairs so unfortunately we didn't have much of a view. The service was great, we ordered two manhattans made the way she recommended and we loved the drink. I definitely appreciate a place that can make an authentic cocktail vs just a drink. Dinner was nice I wasn't blown away but it wasn't bad either. I had the braised short rib with mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts and my friend had the chicken. The food was good our fave was the shrimp and calamari. I would definitely come back for drinks at the bar but the food was nothing to write home about. Went there a couple times between 2/6/2026 and 2/9/2026. First time I had the Chicken Milanese. It comes with capers, sun-died tomatoes, and garlic beans in a lemon cream sauce. I asked the waiter if the kitchen could add extra garlic and some flakes of red pepper to give it some heat. The kitchen read the order, and boy oh boy did they come through! The result was absolutely amazing! The second time I ordered a bowl of gumbo. It was delightful. Had a rich flavor. It was delicious, and I consumed every bite knowing that it was not going to give me heartburn later. For my tastes, I would rather have dropped in a wee bit of Tabasco sauce to give it some heat, but that's just me. Overall it was wonderful. Also, my pre-dinner drink was The Smoot. Some kind of pineapple juice concoction with vanilla vodka. The menus said that it was made with Giffard Cassis Noir de Bourgogne, but my taste buds told me that it might actually have been Giffard Cassis Noir de Bourgogne Liqueur. Sadly I could not stick around long enough to ask the bartender. Either way it was the most amazingly delicious cocktail that I have had in a very long time. Love this place. Excellent food. Didn't realize I posted this review twice. I brought my mom back for HRW. We came to this particular location which is the only one I've explored, but I believe it's my favorite. I'm happy that she loved the historical perspective and the food. Hearsay been on my bookmark for a couple years. The food was better than expected! Which is always a pro! Service by manager Austin was very welcoming, I enjoyed the history of this historical building. Which is the second oldest building in Houston. Built in 1852. (Slavery times). Hearsay was originally a multi story hotel (3 floors). The top 2 floors caught fire previously and the building was rebuilt. The original brick is still being used and the original hardwood flooring for the top loft is wall decor. Afterwards it became the original Foleys store. Netflix also recently had some event hosted here where it part of a haunting series. Thanks Austin for the historic knowledge. Javier was a great waiter. With friendly and gentle service. The only flaw I encountered from this first time experience is, Hearsay was incapable of refilling my ice tea per my request BEFORE CLOSING, because of a team member prematurely discarded the remaining. As if it wasn't bad enough that they didn't have sweet tea available. Nor do they have hot tea available. They didn't bother to offer anything in its replacement. Way to end my first time experience. The historic building is so charming and their brunch menu had several delicious offerings. I came here after reading an article that said they have $12 bottomless mimosas, the article was out of date, they do not have bottomless mimosas. However they do have mimosas at $20 a carafe which was a good enough deal to me so my friends and I stayed. The restaurant is absolutely GORGEOUS, with two levels and a very tiny patio. It's small, dark and cozy in there with soaring ceilings and a beautiful chandelier. I will totally be back here for a date, it's romantic and lovely. The host was not outright rude but also not friendly whatsoever & was extremely slow seating us & seemed apathetic to it all. Her apathy was kind of chic though not gonna lie. The waitress we had was the complete opposite, so so incredibly helpful & personable. Some of the best service I have gotten in some time, I wish I remembered her name. My friends and I agree that the food was average at best, we said it's a 4/10. Not horrible but nothing was good at all. Gouda Mac & cheese was watery and flavorless, the fries were lukewarm, not at all crispy and also bland. My friend got the ahi tuna nachos and was not impressed, same with the creme brulee and wagyu meatballs. Nothing was good, everything was flavorless but edible. The prices would be reasonable if the food was good. The menu had a wide variety of items & plenty of vegetarian options. Everything sounded delicious in theory but fell short in actuality. This place was a pleasant surprise. I was in charge of picking the brunch spot. Well, my friends are picky eaters and they eat meat and I'm back to being Flexitarian (mostly vegetarian with occasional seafood here and there). Good Ole YELP came through. This place had low reviews here but the menu was just what we needed. Our waiter, Bailey was great. He checked on us and engaged in our shenanigans here and there while keeping it professional. There is both an upstairs and downstairs area. The way my life is setup, I have a strong dislike for stairs so I wasn't able to get a view of upstairs area. The set up downstairs is bar on one side, high tables in the middle and low tables on the other side. The tables are close when sitting as you will be able to stretch out and touch your neighbor, stranger or not. The noise level was fine. Cheers to free parking on Sundays! We only had appetizers and sides and we got full really quickly. Espresso Martini was my favorite. I got so excited to have it that I forgot to capture the look. Waiting on a friend to meet me for dinner and drinks... was excited to try based on the rating, however the service is HORRIBLE. I only have water, a drink and appetizer because I left my TABLE to go to the bar to ask to place an order. My bad for assuming that sitting at the table was the universal signal for that request. So, the hostess placed an order for me - thanks. My waiter has come this way three times without acknowledging me which is interesting. A guy who's been opening the door brought me my appetizer. He made sure I was the correct person, placed it on the table and walked away. He walked away so fast that I guess he didn't hear my "excuse me!" .. why was I calling him? Well, because where I come from, we eat with a fork, appetizer plate and use a napkin to wipe our hands. Actually, the napkin is normally on my lap shortly after I'm seated. So, no one came back until the other table was being served. I was STARVING, so I went ahead and ate the appetizer with the SERVING SPOON, like a heathen. Three guys walked past the patio and asked me how this place is... one said he was thinking of bringing someone here for a date. I told them I'd pass since the service is not good at all. The wagyu meat balls were tender but lacked flavor. Even my Old Fashioned is missing some parts smh. Overall, this place showed me that I'm not welcome here. Message received loud and clear! I chose the scallops while others chose fish. Both were delicious. Our server was polite and provided great recommendations for us. On a late Friday night, we stopped into Hearsay for a quick bite and a final drink. The staff was all very friendly and we received our food fast after ordering. It was very relaxed for a Friday, which was quite a nice change of pace from the other bars in the area. Stopped in because they had bread pudding and my friend was really wanting some. We were seated very quickly as walk ins. Our waitress was really nice and accommodating. My friend had an allergy and she was very attentive to help her figure out the menu. My drinks were pretty refreshing and my shrimp was really good. Nice atmosphere and music. read more

We had a nice dinner here for Valentine's Day. J. made a reservation for us and I was excited to check it out after hearing good things about Hearsay. We were promptly seated upon arriving and our servers were very kind and attentive. The restaurant has an interesting aesthetic with a beautiful chandelier giving a fine dining feel, but also with a more relaxed atmosphere from the bar and sports TV. We had a booth seat and were excited to look through the menu before deciding on the Valentine's Day special. We opted for the charcuterie platter as our appetizer, the pistachio crusted lamb chops and surf and turf for our entrees, and the love bomb for dessert. Our appetizer was a big hit, we loved the cheese and meats which went wonderfully with the warm, crispy pretzel. I haven't had a pretzel on a charcuterie board before but I'm a fan now! For our entrees, we were underwhelmed by the filet mignon, but the grilled shrimp, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and lamb chops were a big hit. The dessert was lovely and we enjoyed watching our server hit the shell to reveal the yummy ice cream underneath! This was a nice Valentine's Day special and experience at a romantic restaurant in downtown Houston. I liked that the special included a bottle of wine - we opted for the Cabernet which we thoroughly enjoyed. All things considered, we were a bit disappointed by how the filet mignon turned out but we loved the rest of our meal. I would consider coming back here, likely for a Houston Restaurant Weeks meal in the future! read more

This was a great brunch. We did not have a reservation, but received quick, friendly service at the bar. I have not been to downtown Houston in a while, but this was a great "old school" atmosphere, combined with modern music, and a New American Vibe. We very much enjoyed the experience, and would recommend to our friends. read more

The food was really fresh and delicious. We tried the calamari and shrimp, wagyu melt, seared salmon , and Mac and cheese. The mocktails were a little more one note but still refreshing, I tried the strawberry lime one. Our waiter was kind and attentive. If you come at dinner time, you get a candle lit beside you. The entire ambience of the establishment screams romance with its dim lighting, crystal chandelier and accent walls throughout. There's parking across the street. I look forward to coming back and trying something new. perfect for a date night. read more
