Our group of 9 came for a Mother's Day brunch the day before. Parking was very easy in front of the restaurant, head in pkng and pay at the meter. We had reservations but there were only two other parties present so it wasn't busy for this downtown restaurant near Daikin Stadium. Our waitress was attentive brought us cocktails that were well done and apps also well made. Our mains didn't disappoint and we took out desserts home. I'm from New York, and we think everything is bigger in Texas. Ironically, the portion sizes here were smaller than back home... The food was really good and the drinks were tasty too, but I hate leaving a restaurant not feeling full. And we even ordered an appetizer, which made it a bit disappointing. Service was Amazing! I visited for Houston Restaurant Week. The way items are described on the menu do not match how they are once served. That was a consistent thing I noticed. I started with the bruschetta - the bread was not even bread and the tomatoes were just drenched in a sugar sauce. I moved on the entree which was a steak with mashed potatoes. My server was very upfront with me that the quality of the mashed potatoes differs based on the chef. I asked that he make sure they put their big toe in it and they did. The entree was DELICIOUS. Now for dessert, there was more ice cream than the bread pudding which was not the main attraction. There was a nice ambiance to the restaurant along with the open kitchen concept. We started here to pregame before going to the Astros game. It's an Italian trattoria owned by Astros owner,Jim Crane. We sat at the bar and Antonio was our bartender and server. He's a pretty funny guy so he had us laughing. The ambiance was mediocre nothing extraordinary except for the prices were "extra" as expected. The food was okay and the presentation was nice. I asked Antonio for a spritzer because I wanted something refreshing. The drink was mango mix with brut champagne. It was off the menu and pretty good. It was so good that our friends that met us up here ordered the same drink. It's a good spot to meet up for drinks before the game. (Probably could have used a twice fry) waffle was ok cold had a dry kind of crisp not the chew and fluff, the butter was a little too sweet. A little salt would have balanced it out Creole shrimp and grits- first plate the grits were undercooked so they were nice enough to redo. This I would back for. I love the actual restaurant so when I saw they had a space in Daikin I happily paid the $14 for some of the most trash pizza of my life. The crust is thick and undercooked . Like from the refrigerator cold. I stopped the server, let him know and asked to have it recooked so it was hot. About 30 minutes went by, he was done with his meal and I still didn't get mine. We asked for the lasagna to be removed from the bill so we could pay and leave. He gave us the check. It's too bad there was no follow up by him to alert a manager, or find out what happened to my meal. We stopped the manager and told him what happened. He asked several times if I wanted to wait for another lasagna. I reminded him I had already been waiting and it never showed up. Then he wanted to know if I wanted one to go. I explained again that I had ordered hoping to eat dinner together. We had more than an hour to drive back and just wanted to leave at that point. Do better. read more

Went here for Houston Restaurant Week and had a great experience. From the customer service to the food, everything was exceptional! Inside is nicely decorated. They have a bar on one side of the door and the dining area on the opposite side with a view of the kitchen. Our server was a kind young gentleman that gave us some of his favorite recommendations. For my drink, I got the Pesca Mojito. It had just the right sweetness in its syrup. Very flavorful. Their HRW Dinner was only $39pp for their 3 course meal. That is a STEAL! Plus the food was SO worth it! For starters, I got the Calamari Fritti. They were nice & crispy. I was not expecting the jalapeños to come with them but im glad they did. It gave a nice kick to go with the crunch. My entree was the Chicken Picatta, as recommended as a favorite by our server. I actually would not have chose this on my own, but something told me to trust him. And im glad I did. It was indeed delicious and I was not disappointed. Probably the best Chicken Picatta I've ever had. For dessert, I opted for the Lemoncello Cheesecake. It was topped with lemon zest & blueberry. It was very creamy and good. Not too sweet. Being new to the area I began my culinary excursion at Osso. Service was definitely A1! I had Michael helping me out. He had great recommendations and a fabulous table manner. The vibe was more like a sports bar that day due to an Astros game. But it was average noise level and everyone was just enjoying a good time out. My mom and I have always been big fans of Houston Restaurant Week, so we decided to go with a friend and try this place out. For thirty-nine dollars per person, the dinner menu is a great deal. It feels affordable while also supporting the Houston Food Bank. We arrived on a Sunday night with reservations. The restaurant was decently busy, but there were still some open tables. To be safe, I would recommend making a reservation. The service was pleasant, with friendly servers and food that came out at a steady pace. For my appetizer, I ordered the Calamari Fritti, which was served with Kristalla's marinara and marinated peppers. This ended up being my favorite course of the evening. The calamari was fried nicely, with a crisp exterior and a tender interior that avoided the chewiness that fried calamari sometimes has. My only disappointment was the portion balance. I felt like I received more peppers than calamari on my plate, especially compared to other tables that seemed to have larger portions of calamari. For my main course, I chose Kristalla's Prosciutto & Pear Pizza. Although the crust and dough were well made, I was not a fan of the overall flavor combination. The pizza lacked prosciutto, the pear slices were too crunchy, and the sweet liquid topping caused the cheese to slide off and made the entire pizza soggy. I also would have preferred if the prosciutto had been added after the pizza came out of the oven so it could remain tender rather than tough and chewy. I like the idea of pairing fruit with savory toppings, but I think figs would have been a better choice than pears because their texture and sweetness pair more naturally with prosciutto. Overall, I would describe this pizza as very average and not something I would order again. For dessert, I selected the Caribbean Vanilla Bean Flan with Farmer's Fruit, Almond Brittle, and Caramel Crunch Pearls. The flan itself was smooth and flavorful, and I enjoyed the contrast between its creamy texture and the crunch of the pearls and brittle. I also sampled the Texas Whiskey Bread Pudding and the Dark Chocolate Dream. Out of the three, the bread pudding stood out as the clear winner. It was rich, comforting, and much more memorable than the flan or the chocolate dessert. Overall, while the Houston Restaurant Week menu here was affordable and the service was pleasant, the food itself was not strong enough to make me want to come back. A few of us mentioned that we felt like we were sweating and we were seated indoors. All of us started with cocktails. I ordered a not so french 75 which was perfectly refreshing and helped cool me down a bit. The appetizers came not too long after. Our party of 9 shared 2 plates of calamari. The calamari was smaller than I expected and there appeared to be equal pieces of calamari and peppers. I ordered the shrimp linguine for my entree. I was expecting an entire plate full of pasta based on other Italian restaurants I've dined in but I actually preferred having a smaller portion that was more realistic for me to finish in one sitting. We came to this restaurant for the $25 brunch (Restaurant Week). Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. The waiter brought our menus. He did not return until about 15 minutes later. When we placed our orders, we were informed that they no longer had the smoked salmon starter. This should have been mentioned as soon as we were given the menus. The best thing of the salad was the two slices of toasted, buttered bread that come with it. Next, my husband ordered chicken and waffles, and I ordered the eggs Benedict. Out of this, the waffles were the most interesting. The eggs Benedict were supposed to come with asparagus. They arrived with ham (which was not listed on the menu) and broccolini. The hollandaise sauce was watery and tasted very bland. Again, here the waiter should have informed us of changes in the menu. We were about to order coffee until the couple at the table next-door sent back their coffees because they tasted burnt... We believe that excellence is based on attention to details. Alright, I'll start with the good news: the place looks great. Cozy lighting, cute decor, and the smell when you walk in makes you think you're about to have the best pasta of your life. Yet this is amazing... They should make a chicken burger a regular item. Super tender, flavorful chicken, softest buns ever, fresh veg, melty cheese-- I am so happy. I'd just been asking my server, Angie, if they happen to make a lighter sandwich and she offered to ask the kitchen. This restaurant is not anything special. I got the margarita pizza and sea bass, but both were lacking flavor and tasted pretty bland. The pizza was large, and we had leftovers, but it was pretty regular. The sea bass was salty, and the vegetables were still hard and had not been cooked thoroughly. The sauce was also average. It did not make up for the other lacking features of the dish. Prices are a bit steep for what you get. Paid around $30 something for the fish and almost $20 for the pizza. Service was good. Server came by consistently, and food came out quick. There is no free parking, and they do not validate. There is metered parking right out front for a cheap price. Interior has a nice design, as it is a downtown spot, but it doesn't make up for the poor food. Overall, I would not recommend this spot. There are better spots downtown to find good food. My friends and I decided to hit up Osso & Kristalla as a pregame spot before hitting up a concert at Minute Maid. We wanted to take advantage of their happy hour so most of us arrived right at 4. I parked a few blocks away but there is street parking surrounding that area. When we arrived, the place wasn't too busy, but quickly filled up as people were getting off work or had the same idea as us. Eleanor was our waitress and she took great care of us from start to finish. She knew we were trying to squeeze in as much food and drinks as we could before heading next door so she checked in on us frequently. Their happy hour menu isn't bad. They have about 6 or 7 food options, a handful of beer selections, well cocktails and a couple of wine options. I knew I was going to drink beer at the concert so I went with a nice cold Shiner here served in a nicely chilled glass. Every drink after was also served in a chilled glass too. It's little things like this that make me happy. I wasn't looking to get really full but knew I should probably eat a little something something before the concert. I ordered the Calamari Fritta. This dish came out nice and fresh and was a generous portion. The happy hour price made it even more of a steal. I like calamari done the way they do it here. It comes served with pepperoncini peppers and marinara sauce. The combination of the calamari, peppers and sauce makes for a delicious bite. I also got to try the Black Truffle Parmesan Fries and they were tasty as well. I'm part of the minority that's not a big truffle person, but the truffle in this was not overpowering. Wow, this was such a disappointment experience. I had high expectations because the owner of the Houston Astros owns this restaurant however I was sadly mistaken. This spot is located right next to Minute Maid Park, it's definitely a nice spot to chill after the game. The decor is well put together, they have one section of the restaurant that's set up like a sports bar and the other half to be like an upscale fine dining. There's also a patio if you want to sit outside. Walking in the host greeted us with this look like she didn't want to be there but I really didn't care because I was hungry after going to the Astros game. They sat us by the bar area & handed us the dinner menu. I decided to order my go to drink which is the Manhattan & for my main course I went ahead and got their Spaghetti with the chicken cutlet. It's pretty much a chicken Parmesan pasta. My manhattan was okay, the presentation was sad and seems like it was just a lazy bartender making the drink. Also who puts ice in a Manhattan? Where they do that at? My meal came out in 5 minutes which I would be excited about but this isn't a fast food restaurant. My dish came out so quick which raises a red flag for me. First off chicken cutlets take at least 12-15 minutes to be fried or baked since it's a breast. Then to top it off this dish takes about 20-25 minutes to prepare & not five mins. I'm just going to assume that the chicken was already pre cooked & they refried it to get it hot. The chicken breast itself had barely any flavor with a pinch of salt & it was dry. The spaghetti was too tomatoey & too acidic for my liking. For a 21 dollar dish it was overpriced for something that's barely edible. I decided to take the rest home to maybe eat it later but it was so below par that I just threw it in the trash. The reason I'm giving it a 2 stars is because Alysia was very nice and accommodating & she checked on us a few times. When my food came out she saw the disappointment in my face & when I was handed my check she took 20 percent off my bill. That was very kind of her but I wasn't expecting nor did I need it. When I'm paying 21 dollars for a simple spaghetti with some chicken smothered with melted cheese on top; I expected somewhat decent quality. Yes I get that it's a bar but this restaurant is set up to be a fine dining as well. Overall my meal was a 1.5/5 but I'll give it a 2 because our server was great and the decor is nice otherwise I don't have anything nice to say. First, I patronized this establishment because they were participating in this year's (2024) Houston Restaurant Weeks. Second, I have always wanted to eat here out of curiosity because their menu looked good. And, what I ordered was very, very good! When I arrived, I notified the hostess that I wanted to eat from their "Houston Restaurant Weeks" (HRW) menu. When seated, I given both their regular menu, and HRW menu. To my fault, I didn't request the dinner HRW menu because I was given the lunch menu. It was around 2:30pm, so it was defined as a late lunch time. Oh, just to let everyone know, the dinner menu includes dessert. The ambiance was quiet with the background music at a decent level. By the way, who's ever music playlist was playing, props to you because that playlist was enjoyable to listen to. And, I'm not a fan of today's music, either. Lol. Luckily, my waiter, Dan(?), let me order from the dinner menu. Apparently, after I ordered from the menu, I noticed the manager-on-duty was talking to him while he (Dan) was entering my order in the computer. The manager-on-duty looked at his watch, and the first thing I thought was I hope I didn't get Dan in trouble for ordering off the dinner menu instead of the lunch menu. I think I was caught looking because Dan passed by my table and gave the wink-and-thumbs up sign giving me that everything was fine. By the way, Dan's (and the kitchen crew's) service and timing were on point: when I was finished with one course the next course was ready to be served. Now the food. The first course was the prosciutto salad which as described was "Summer melon, arugula, toasted almond, (and) Texas olive oil." Just to let y'all know that wasn't your aunt's melon-wrapped-in-prosciutto appetizer, this was a deconstructed version, and much better tasting version of it. The prosciutto and arugula were the base while the cubed melon was on top. The olive oil was measured to be not drowning the whole salad. It was just right. In fact, the salad was hella delicious. And, it's not that often I'm impressed with a salad. The second course was the cast iron seared salmon. This was served over Texas sweet corn and field pea succotash drizzled with 1836 olive oil (which I think was the same olive oil served with the salad). I was a bit surprised when I was asked how I wanted it to be cooked ; it's so rare to be asked that. I wish most restaurants would do that. Nobody wants an overcooked, hella dry fish. I requested the salmon to cooked medium, by the way. And, it was hella delicious, too. It wasn't overcooked, nor over-seasoned. It was just right! The third course was dessert. And I ordered the Htown chocolate dream which consisted of devil's food cake, cacao berry chocolate, and raspberry paint. The "paint" looked like purée "painted" on the plate. This was hella delicious, three! (Get it? Hella delicious, hella delicious too, hella delicious three. Lol. ) I'm not sure what was on top of the cake, but it tasted like mini-whoppers malted milk balls. And, I haven't had that in a long time! Oh, I forgot the drinks! The alcoholic drink was called "Hit for the Cycle" which was made of Empress Gin, tonic, St. Germaine, rosemary and thyme. Hella delicious, four! I wish I had another one, but I was driving. Boo-oo. The others accompanying "Hit for the Cycle" was water and ice tea. Would I visit here again? Yes! Whether it be HRW or not, this place had awesome service, drinks, and food. read more

A solid pie at a great price. Ordered one cheese and one pepperoni to go and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The crust was perfect, soft enough to fold yet firm with the right amount of crunch in the crust ridge, the sauce to pie ratio was good as were the pepperonis. We came in to place our to-go order and were greeted by the host who was polite, friendly and attentive. The ambiance, design and friendly staff made me wish I was dinning in but alas that was not to be as we were on a tight schedule. The food was okay. I ordered the chicken penne pesto but it needed some salt and pepper. Tasted a bit bland for my taste. The shrimp linguine dish also came with just four shrimp - slightly disappointing. The Buffalo/mozzarella appetizer was decent but not enough mozzarella. The Caesar salad was so bad we had to send it back. The highlight was the espresso martinis. I'd come back and sit at the bar for those alone. Service wasn't good. We had a reservation for 10 people for lunch. We were sat promptly and comfortably. Service was great and attentive. The restaurant is large tastefully decorated. There's a wide variety of appetizers and entrees. From pasta to pizza to steak. Everything was tasty with a few underwhelming items. Pizza was tasty but too large for one person. Filet mignon was fabulous with buttery and flavorful mashed potatoes. Mushroom ravioli looked unique bud just okay. Chocolate dream dessert was great but such a tiny slice for $10. Strawberry Shortcake was good but too thick. The bread pudding clearly won. A satisfying meal and I'll definitely return. read more
