Absolutely love this place! The pizza and salads are amazing and my go to! The service is great and the ambiance is perfect, never too loud, perfect to watch your favorite sports teams and just have a nice meal. Their pastas are also great
Still a big fan of Jonathan's The Rub (East End). This is our go-to spot for dinner in the neighborhood (that's not Tex-Mex, Vietnamese, Thai, or Italian). Think JT's is the only of it's kind in the area (aside from City Cellar). I normally get the wedge or greek salad or some sort of fish. We did try the crab cakes this time, and DO NOT recommend. They are more like hush puppies or fritters... very cornmeal (or bread?) heavy and hardly any crab to be called a "crab cake." I think another review mentioned that, and even our server told us (after the fact) that patrons don't like their crab cakes. I've been gluten-free for six months and kinda bummed I broke my streak on this dish. Thankfully they took it off our bill (at $44 for four, and we couldn't even finish one.)
Stopped in on a Thursday for steak night and sat at the bar. 4.5 stars, edging down to 4. Steak night itself is a really good deal, and everything we had delivered. The steak was cooked perfectly. It comes sliced with a sauce that's sort of like a nicer version of Heinz 57 -- very good. The smashed potatoes were better than you'd expect, especially if you can get a side of the onion ring sauce to put on them; it sets them off really nicely. The green beans were also very good. We added a small order of onion rings as an extra side, and they were some of the best i have had in a while. They came with some kind of ranch-type sauce that was absolutely phenomenal. I ended up dipping everything in it -- the steak, the potatoes, all of it. I also had their "steak night" old fashioned, which was a solid drink. The steak night plate is a great value. My wife and I actually split it -- it's a larger portion than you'd think, and you can add on shrimp if you want a little more. side note: The croutons on the Caesar salad deserve a mention of their own some of the best I've ever had. I don't know what they do to them, but they're exceptional. As for the spot itself: super nice location, very clean. The bar has a nice feel, with large windows where you can sit and look out to the street. All the food we had was top notch -- I'd give it a full five stars for taste and value. The one thing that knocks it down a little is the service. We sat at the bar, and there were two bartenders. It wasn't especially busy, but it still took a while to get drinks. The bigger hang-up was that I asked two or three small questions about the menu and the bartenders had no idea it was a lot of "I don't know" or "let me check on that," and then they never really got back to me. Not a huge deal, and they weren't unfriendly it just wasn't quite a five-star experience on that front. Highly recommend, would recommend and return.
Thursday night steak night... that's it, that's all. The traditional steak night deal comes with smashed potatoes and green beans. I swapped out the green beans for Mac and cheese. No regrets! Great service at the bar and a high quality old fashioned was served up nicely with my meals.

The interior space is nice, clean and has an ample amount of room for large parties. The patio is also a nice size for those beautiful days. The patio visit was probably my better visit as the waitress was accommodating. This particular visit started off on the down slope. There were a lot of people behind the bar doing nothing but chatting and not serving. One young lady continued to look at us while she ran her mouth and polished the drink ware. Finally after 20 min of sitting there, my guest grabbed one of the bar tenders and asked for assistance and then we began rolling. The food has always been "ok". This time we ordered the "Jessie's Salad" and the "Redfish" with a side of steamed Pork dumplings. The salad is huge and filling, the better of the three dishes. The Redfish was overcooked and dry. It also didn't taste like it was fresh fish. The dumplings were decent, nothing to wow you..... I got the classic Gibson and it was also just "ok". The balance was a little off. The atmosphere is always lively and is a good hangout spot. It's just not anywhere that I'd recommend great food.
I made a reservation for 4 at noon. Ample parking. We were seated within a minute of checking in. We received water without ice immediately after we received our menus. There were 2 servers that were assisting with the table. Both very nice and got our orders correct. I had to split the bill in a weird way and they followed instructions well. The restaurant is always nice and clean including the restroom. The restaurant has a lunch option for 2 items for $25. What a steal! I got the wedge salad because I love the smothered blue cheese dressing. I got the mahi mahi tacos. Tacos were a good lighter choice. I didn't realize that it came with fries. All delicious options and so many options for even the pickiest eaters. Always a good choice for a nicer lunch.
Business Dinner: They accommodated our large group of 17 with no issue and it hits every dietary need as we needed options from vegan, vegetarian, chicken only, as well. We ordered everything basically on the menu. Heard many compliments on peoples food. The hits: Crab cakes, sweet chili shrimp, brussel sprouts, garlic knots, ceviche, snapper, filet mignon - perfect med rare, asian salad was a sight, pizza, desserts, cappuccino was awesome, fried green tomatoes, chicken fried chicken, carrots, meatballs, bacon mac. Didn't hit as much Seafood Gumbo - roux a bit thicker than I prefer and not dark enough. Good amount of seafood though. Blue cheese broccoli - was warm dressing instead of actual crumbles Pork loin - mention the cook was wrong and tough to eat. Thank you for accommodating our group, many people have bookmarked JTR to bring their significant other.
Got treated to a surprise dinner and Jonathan's The Rub won me over. Ambiance: 5/5 Reservations were made so that we didn't have any issues with seating. This was a Thursday evening and the parking area is shared with other businesses, but fortunately there was no issue in parking. They have an outdoor patio area to dine at but we were seated inside. The place is nice and clean and tables are spaced well enough to allow room to move about. Doesn't seem to have a dress code, but majority of people were in business casual style with either jeans or dress wear. This is nice spot for solo dinner, date, or friend group. They don't have a reward program, but you can reward yourself by stopping in. Service: 5/5 Our waitress was training someone else so we got double the attention. At the end she mentioned that she is an opera singer and treated me along with the restaurant to her rendition of Happy Birthday. The place went silent and for those 20 seconds, we were in an opera house. Food/Drinks: 5/5 For a Thursday, they have an "Only Thursday" JTR Steak Feature specials can be found on the attached photo. But on this visit opted for the: Heavenly Old Fashioned: that was made with my signature go to bourbon, Angel's Envy. It was the right amount of boozy without being overly sweet or spiced because of the bitters. For food you have a choice of salad, and the piece the resistance a 14. Oz Rubbed Ny Strip, cooked your way (mine is medium rare) and served with smashed red potatoes and green beans and "J1 steak sauce. I couldn't finish it in one sitting as it is plenty for two. I took the remainder home and reheated it properly and the flavors were extra marinated in. IT WAS DELICIOUS! You have the option to add a Smoke - a rotating selection of premium cigars, but didn't in this instance. After this experience, I've gone on to share with others regarding them visiting for a Thursday special or when they get a chance.

I decided to sit at the bar instead of waiting. The Thursday night steak special goes for $35 and you get a small salad, 14oz New York strip, potatoes, and green beans. The presentation is amazing! The steak was cook to order and the J1 sauce complements it very well. The potatoes are cooked perfectly and seasoned very generously. The greens beans came off a little bland and the salad was just a regular salad. You definitely get a great amount of food for the price. The service was a bit slow, especially for sitting at the bar. It took several minutes before the bartender acknowledged me and took my order. Took even longer to get my drink. I finished my drink and ordered a second before my food came out. I think they were just under staffed this night. I would still recommend coming in as it's a great deal.
A restaurant with potential. Located in the East end of Downtown, in a shopping center with enough parking. No valet and no parking fees. The restaurant is pretty, with a bar and dining area, and it fits all group sizes. We got our table (for 10 people) and ordered some drinks, I got a Paloma, it's was less than average, definitely didn't like it. We ordered some appetizers, and the meatballs were good as well as the ceviche, which was spicy since comes with habanero. Then we ordered the main entrees, I ordered the Jessie Salad and my friend got the Ribeye, my salad was ok, nothing extraordinary, but the ribeye was definitely not good, not tender at all, rubbery-hard meat. I will say that the Brussels sprouts are good and the tuna is good as well. And for dessert tres leches for the bday boy, we all tried it and it was good. This restaurant has potential, but if you ask me if I'd go back, I don't think I will go back by choice, unless is another invite for a special occasion.
Friendly service, solid variety of quality food, large dining room and patio to accommodate all group sizes. During certain times of the day, the bar can be pretty noisy but it's never too loud to hold a conversation. We go for the dog friendly patio and the JTR chicken salad. Love how they have a legit coffee/dessert menu as well with lots to choose from. Underrated breakfast+brunch spot too!
Came here for my birthday and sat at the bar for happy hour. The staff were friendly and attentive. The drinks were good and decent happy hour selection. All the food were decent. Nothing to rave about. I like the interior design. Good for taking pictures.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE ON SEPTEMBER 17TH. I am extremely disappointed by the way I was treated during my visit today. I am a frequent customer and come to this restaurant almost every other week, so I have spent a significant amount of money here and have always expected a certain level of service and respect. Today, that was absolutely not the experience I received. After placing my drink order, my friend received hers, while I was left waiting without my drink. What made the situation even more frustrating was watching a couple who arrived AFTER us place their order and receive their drinks before I did. When I finally asked about mine, the server's response was, "What was your order?" despite the fact that I had already placed it. I then asked if I could sit outside and enjoy a drink. Instead of simply accommodating the request or explaining the situation professionally, I was immediately told, "The patio is closed." Yet moments later, I watched another couple being escorted to the patio, and the same server told them, "I'll be out with your drinks shortly." At that point, I could not help but feel singled out and question why I was being treated differently. The lack of attention started from the moment I sat down. The service was dismissive, rude, and completely inconsistent with the level of hospitality I expect from a restaurant I visit this frequently. What is especially concerning is that the treatment I received felt discriminatory. I am not going to ignore how uncomfortable and disrespected I felt during this visit. When I asked the server for his name, he actually questioned me about why I wanted it. Given the way the entire interaction had gone, I had every right to document who was responsible for my experience. I am extremely disappointed. I am a loyal customer who has repeatedly chosen to spend my money at this establishment, and I should not have to question whether I am going to be treated with basic courtesy and respect when I walk through the door. This was not simply a minor service issue. It was the combination of being ignored, receiving inconsistent treatment, being given explanations that clearly did not appear to apply equally to everyone, and then being met with an attitude when I attempted to address it. I expect management to take this complaint seriously, review what occurred on September 17th, and address the conduct of the server involved. I deserve an explanation for the treatment I received, because this experience was completely unacceptable. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I will absolutely think twice before spending my money here again.
I've dine in at this place before and it was a great experience. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was extremely friendly. She informed me that each cocktail was specially crafted by the "head bartender" and even let me try some samples. I believe at that time, I tried the Loaded Mashed Potato Balls and they were delicious/unique. This time around, I ordered the chicken Alfredo via DoorDash and had it delivered to my job. I can confidently say that my order was freshly made and was still indeed warm when it arrived. The sauce was nice and creamy and paired well with the fettuccine noodles and diced grilled chicken. The portion of the pasta was satisfying and was enough for me to eat about 4 servings from it. The ambiance of the restaurant is very lowkey and chill but nicely decorated and well lit. I would consider this restaurant and specifically this location a hidden gem. read more

We met up with some good friends for a steak night. This was my first time to visit any of their locations. Driving up, it looked very fresh for this area of OG food joints. We arrived at the end of their happy hour, and the beginning of their steak night. They had some discounted cocktails to pair with the meats. You get an option of house or Caesar salad, or an option to upgrade to their wedge for +$3. The steak are sous vide to your preference, the medium rare was perfect. We did chat up our wait staff to get their opinions on how the kitchen made their steaks. They provided excellent advice! The steaks came sliced, with green beans, and potatoes. Not gonna lie, the potatoes were the show stoppers of this meal. Don't get me wrong, the steak was good too. But the potatoes were magnificent. They also had dessert but after such a large meal, it wasn't happening. We did get some cocktails to go with dinner. I had the heavenly old fashioned, made with Angel's Envy. It was a sweeter variant but still smooth and tasty. Parking was pretty easy, which is odd in that area. If you've been to ninfas you understand. The facility itself is very clean, and the ambience is quite relaxing. The service was fantastic and very efficient. Our wait staff knew their menu very well, which always helps when people like me have questions. It's always good to get the expert's opinion. For a $35 steak night, it was a steal. Not sure if I came on a bad day, but all around , the dishes we ordered could have used a bit of salt to round out the flavors Other than that, food looked amazing, very editorial, & service was super nice and knowledgable! read more

Went for a solo dinner and was in the mood for steak. I sat at the bar. Ordered a lemon drop and ribeye. The service was good but nobody went over the specials with me like they did a group of ladies who came in after me. My bartender was nice, made small talk with me about music. My drink was delicious. I was pretty disappointed with my ribeye. It had a lot of fat on it and honestly tasted like it was cooked with liver and onions or in a pan that just cooked liver and onions. Not the best flavor. I make steak at home a lot and maybe that's what I'll stick to eating at home only. read more

Jonathan's is the place to be! They have excellent food, excellent service, and a solid happy hour. Enough said! This location is a must try if you're in the area. Every dish I have had has been fantastic, and they have a solid variety of light bites all the way up fancy steaks and salads. You can get whatever you're looking for here. They offer pizza, pasta, burgers, seafood, really anything you're looking for and it's done well. I think so far the ribeye and mashed potatoes has been my favorite meal, but I've also tried dumplings, cajun pasta, burgers, salads, and seafood and have enjoyed each meal. The ambiance can change depending on where you sit, I've been for casual occasions and for more formal meals and have felt comfortable each time. The dining room feels more formal but the patio and bar feel pretty relaxed. I find myself coming here often because they offer so many different dishes and experiences that are all done well. read more

I enjoyed Eric's service with a tasty and spicy basil margarita along with their Mexican Pizza. Enough for a second meal the following day if you're flying solo. My husband had the eggplant which looked good. My friends visiting from L.A. enjoyed a huge ass chicken parm, a giant pork chop (one that could rival Perry's), and Mac and cheese. Service was friendly and helpful and attentive. And checked on us regularly.... Fried green tomatoes crispy and tart topped with pico and a chipotle aioli delicious. JTR Garlic Knots - garlic pillows of yumminess served with homemade marinara. East end smashburger - sautéed onions, chipotle aioli, pickles and a fluffy potato bun - yasss (lots of flavor in this burger.) The place was packed so I am glad we had a reservation. Had not been to this new location yet we stopped by after going to an event nearby just to have some appetizers. We had the garlic knots the meatballs and a pizza and it hit it out of the park. They were still serving brunch when we got here which was interesting. I would highly recommend good people good staff nice building read more
Drove into town to go to Jonathan's the Rub Eastside on a Sunday cuz we were craving some pizza. We were told that they had not had power earlier for 2 hours but now things were back working. We knew we wanted a pizza but did not know what kind so our waiter suggested we get half & half, ( pepperoni & margarita). The pizza was ok but we have had better. The main problem was all the flies that were around us and the lack of our waiter NOT checking on us. read more
We wanted steak and searched on Yelp to see where all was the best steak night and discovered this place. The interior is stunning. The ambiance is amazing! The staff is so nice and pleasant! Instead of getting a steak each we decided to try out their smash burger as well. I love me a good fry and their fries are so good. Love the seasoning on top of it. Old fashioned was not bad for $10 and they didn't go easy on the alcohol. The side house salad that we chose with our steak was so unexpectedly, good. The house made croutons were hard but soft in the middle, in the best way. The house made dressing was nice too! The steak - there was a lot of meat! Only complaint is ask for one less of a cooking temperature because we ask for medium rare and it came almost well done.. the sauce that it comes with is so good! Loved the green beans to help cut the grease and the potatoes. Will definitely come back with friends and family! read more

The steak night is outstanding! Huge portion, well seasoned, and tender cuts perfectly cooked. I'm not a savory grits girlie, but these folks have convinced me that sometimes, savory grits are good because theirs are GREAT. I LOVE the fact that they take the tails off of their shrimp and that everything is seasoned and tastes good individually, complementing each other very well. read more
We really enjoyed our dinner here! We came early since we have the Bebe now and the entire staff was very sweet and very accommodating. We ordered the ceviche as our app and it sadly was the least favorite item we ordered. It was extremely spicy even though there were no jalapeños in it. I think they went overboard on the cayenne pepper even though it wasn't necessary. Favorite dish of the night was the Denver roast! It fell apart and with the gravy and mashed potatoes-chefs kiss! Would highly recommend this dish! Hubby got the special of the night which was the surf and turf. The steak was cooked rare which is what we wanted but we noticed the ends of the steak were dry. The center was def more tender. It came served with an Oscar hollandaise sauce so that helped a bit with the dryness. The restaurant is spacious and super cute. Parking is easy so that's another plus as well. This concept is def more casual compared to their other locations! read more

We were in the area, I was hungry, and Yelp said Jonathan's The Rub was one of my bookmarked spots, so naturally, I took it as a sign. It wasn't as hot outside, and since I turn into a human popsicle under A/C vents, we decided to sit on the patio. Turns out we stumbled in during happy hour and steak night (on a Thursday). Our waitress Scarlett deserves her own show on Food Network. The way she described each drink and dish had me convinced she personally squeezed the lemons and lovingly raised the cow. I almost ordered everything she recommended just out of respect. I went with the Frozen Tropic Thunder; vodka, mango, triple sec, lemon, simple syrup... basically a vacation in a cup that slapped me back to life. For food, I did the steak (medium well, a little pink but not enough to scare me but still came out to dark), house salad, potatoes, and broccolini. House dressing is ranch and balsamic; perfect marriage without the hassle of dating Now, they had one of those fly fighting fans on deck, but the flies didn't care. It was giving light combat, but nothing a few swats and a strong cocktail couldn't handle. I sprinkled a little salt on the potatoes, and suddenly I was living my best life. Happy, full, and slightly tipsy; just how I like it. I'll definitely be back. Preferably with a sweater to sit inside and a empty stomach. read more
Had the opportunity to eat her twice in the last two weeks, once for dinner and once for lunch. Both occasions were stellar with a vast and well curated menu. Service is superb, with customers clearly at the forefront. The dining room is well appointed with a feel somewhere between casual and formal. Appetizers are plentiful and varied. We had two shrimp numbers, a sweet chili and bbq. Surprisingly the bbq version packed some fire with sriracha notes in the sauce. Steak night is Thursday and when in Rome...steak arrived sliced with crispy smashed potatoes and for me mushrooms (not the standard side on the special but they want you to have what you want). Just yum. On my lunch outing I opted for one of their two course specials. Great deal! Appetizer and main course. For me that was a pork tenderloin pounded then with a Parmesan crust and a lemon cream sauce. Absolutely stunning. read more
A few friends went to JotR last Saturday and the experience was pleasant! * Food- Overall, the portion sizes were excellent 10/10. However, there was a mixed review of the dishes. -Baked Brie in honey glazed pastry wrap with fruits and nuts- 9/10. The sweet flaky crust complimented the warm brie perfectly. Ample nuts and fruits both dried and fresh. I was impressed to see figs on the board! -Shrimp Scampi- 3/10. It was watery and the noodles was a little to al dente for my friend. - Pasta Siciliano- 6/10. For $32 my friend wasn't too pleased with the amount of proteins. She said taste was average. -Jalapeños Redfish- 7.5/10 large portion and decent tasting. - Chicken Fried Chicken- 9/10. Perfect cutlet fried lightly over a beautiful garlic mash potatoes topped with a luxurious bacon gravy. I wished there was more gravy though! - Burger with added fresh chopped serranos and fries- 10/10. My husband throughly enjoyed his burger. We eat spicy and the fresh chopped serranos were the perfect touch. The fries were plentiful and tasty. -Garlic Knots- 9.5/10 deeeeelicious. Baked to perfection, crispy on the outside, soft in the inside, beautiful garlic flavor like a confit not overpowering at all. Marinara was good too. - Grilled Salmon- 8/10 my friend said it was seasoned and cooked well. *Service- 10/10. Our server was attentive, honest, knew details about different menu items, and hospitable overall. *Ambiance- this place is a little eclectic and has an older-modern feel. There were Christmas trees and decorations throughout. The bathroom was adequate but needed cleaning as the night went on. For a Saturday evening they weren't bustling so we were grateful for that as it was easy and efficient to handle our group of 10. *Likelihood of returning- very high. It was a nice place to get together with friends. The vibe was grown up and food portions were excellent. read more

Jonathan's the rub is back at it again with a new location right by the original Ninfas on Navigation. Their Thursday steak night special might be the best in town. $10.00 Martini and $30.00 14 oz ribeye with green beans and potatoes. It was stellar. My one critique would be to order it a lower temp then you actually want (medium rare, order rare). Also a ten dollar cigar is included in the steak night. Perfect night out for the boys.
