I had heard about Winnie's, from a video or photos...somewhere. And today I had an opportunity to have lunch there as I made my way to downtown on the Metro Train. It's right by the Continental Club. Walking in, I immediately liked the ambiance. It was quiet for lunch and the sound system was playing 70's era soul music. Seated at the bar, I had a nice conversation with the bartender, and decided on a cup of their gumbo, which was good, and their burger, which was messy and tasty and exactly like I like my hamburgers. I will be back. It was a very enjoyable experience.
I went to brunch at Winnie's a few weeks ago. If you're in the area this is a pretty good place to stop. There are a lot drink options that are pretty good. The gumbo was okay, but the breakfast sandwich was great. It was very filling, you could definitely share. The oysters weren't great. But I'd go back for drinks.
Winnie's is such a fun spot in Houston with a laid back vibe that makes it easy to hang out for hours. The drinks were really good and definitely worth the price. The staff was also super nice and cool, which made the experience even better. We ordered the treasure chest drinks with different kinds of cocktails in it and it was so fun. The oysters were fresh and delicious, and overall the whole place just had a great energy to it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to with friends! Also, I heard they do drag shows! Will have to come to one soon.
I recently visited Winnie's on two occasions for their Christmas Miracle pop-up. I've heard many great things about Winnie's and was excited to check it out. There isn't any parking, but I was lucky to find street parking nearby on one occasion. There is also a paid garage around the corner. During this time of year, the whole place is decorated super nice with lights and Christmas decor throughout. They even cover the (normally open) patio to enhance the visual effect of all the Christmas lights. Reservations are recommended during peak times, but there was a good flow of people, so it didn't look like there was really a long wait (if any). I ordered the fried pickles, which came out super fast. The pickles were piping hot and the breading was crispy. The pickle chips were served with a side of spicy ranch which complimented them perfectly. Everyone at our table seemed to enjoy these. For my Miracle drink, I got the Snowball Old-Fashioned, which is your standard old fashioned enhanced with gingerbread flavor. Was it worth $17 for a cocktail in Houston? Probably not, but I'm thinking this is the markup for the pop-up and to enjoy the limited-time Christmas spirit. Service was decent. During one visit, I asked our server if they were doing happy hour specials and he bluntly responded with "no." When I asked if it was because of the pop-up, he basically said he didn't know because he doesn't normally work here. Weird answer, but ok. Otherwise, he was fairly attentive to our large group and drinks came out fast. I'll definitely come back to Winnie's during the normal time of year to try their other food and drink offerings. I love that there is huge a dog-friendly patio for nice weather days in Houston!
We had Winnie's brunch this past Saturday. They had a dj playing good music, the food was outstanding and we loved the atmosphere. I would definitely recommend especially for brunch. I believe it's every Saturday and Sunday. The espresso martini was delicious and great customer service too!
i am so surprised that i have not heard about winnie's. lately, i've been spending some of my spare happy hour time, looking for ones that feel right. winnie's is definitely one of the places that feels right. it's in a central location, there is paid parking nearby or the train. the drinks are decent. the bites are great, and the atmosphere is chill. there is also seating on their patio. i would summarize the vibe as "rockabilly" and as a millennial, i like it. the staff are welcoming, and on wednesdays they have trivia! bonné santé c.
We went for Houston restaurant week. The French toast was phenomenal, and the smoked salmon Benedicts were also a hit. Great music selection. Friendly wait staff, and food came out at a good time.
So good! So fun! Everyone working was wearing themed Master's weekend shirts, how fun! Although, it's never the same as Miracle at Winnie's, the atmosphere is always fun. This time my husband got the chicken fried steak (it doesn't tell you on the menu that it comes with sides, bonus!). My husband gave me the potato salad that comes with it, delicious. I got the catfish and grits, grilled. The catfish was a bit salty, but the chow chow evened it out. We also got the crawfish Queso. They are really generous with the crawfish in it. The chips are fine, but our side of fries were better with it. This restaurant actually makes me happy, and is probably my favorite non fine dining restaurant.
Winnie's is known for its Christmas flair but it should be known for its great Friday special! I went on a Friday with a friend and sat at the bar, waited on by the lovely Seth. We went for the $1 daiquiris that only happens from 11 AM- 3 PM per the menu! Seth knows how to make an incredible shaken martini, so drink at your own risk. In addition to my martini, I had the fried chicken crunch wrap supreme, yes a play on the Taco Bell classic. It was my first time having it and at only $14, it does rival the original. Now there was something in it, maybe the sauce, that I should've gotten on the side but overall, it was really good! So check out Winnie's on a Friday and see Seth for a great daiquiri!
The vibe was amazing. My friend and I went for Brunch. The music was great with DJ Good Grief. You could dance and groove and still have a conversation without screaming. Would definitely go back. Yes I came back AGAIN for my now 3rd annual Christmas bar popup. This time, it looks like they added more seats inside. Also they didn't have the mulled wine like last year, but a different hot cocktail that was a bit too cinnamon or nutmeg spicy for me. So I went with the Santa's Secret (I believe). It was similar to a frozen pina colada, and it was strong! I had completely forgotten how strong their drinks are and thought that I was gonna be able to get the hot chocolate. Well no I was not! So with my drink, I also tried their double fried wings with the Asian Seoul flavor and my goodness it was sweet, spicy and good! I also got their loaded gumbo fries and that was really good. I think I liked it because of the cheese because I wasn't getting much "Gumbo" flavor but like a gravy though. Nonetheless, it was really good. I wanted to try their deviled eggs, but I wasn't gonna be able to eat all of that. I am looking forward to keeping my tradition going! Cheers!
My first stop for my Texas Cocktail Week reviews! Frozen cocktails added to the list of drinks available for cocktail? Sign me up! Absolutely lovedddd the frozen Saturn! My friend had the Beach Please which was quite tasty! This bar was so cute inside with plenty of seating at the bar & in the booths. There was also outside seating as well. It has been on my list of places to try since my first visit here. Our bartender was very sweet, and attentive. I was originally looking to get the strawberry daiquiri but I'm so happy that she recommended the Frozen Saturn. What a game changer! I could barely taste the alcohol, it was a smooth delicious fruity treat. So glad that they were featured for cocktail week!
Ambiance: Currently a festive & holiday decorated bar featuring holiday themed cocktails and Instagram-worthy backdrops. Perfect spot for a pre-holiday party drink, celebration, bar crawl, or just catching up with friends. A bit pricey but the drinks were really good! Decent food menu, enjoyed the Mac & cheese balls - did they were expensive for only 3 but the decor/service makes it worth the pricey bar tab IMO. Friendly & fast service. Street and paid garage parking available nearby. Bar area as well as dining table options and a few high tops. Their patio area also looked quite festive and like a great option when the weather is nice.

Went to Winnie's on a Sunday during Houston Restaurant Weeks and had an amazing experience from the service, drinks, and most of the food. Off the Restaurant Weeks menu we ordered the Loaded Hash Browns in the Style of Potato Skins and the Trio Deviled Egg Trio for starters. The loaded hash browns were crispy, golden, and covered with a healthy amount of toppings especially the cheesy queso. The deviled eggs were just okay for me. They weren't your typical deviled eggs the filling was more of a mustard forward potato salad mixture. The three toppings on deviled eggs were very distinct from one another and each had its own flavor. For the main dishes we ordered the Peach Cobbler French Toast and the Breakfast Sandwich. The French toast was a little underwhelming. It wasn't made with the traditional thick cut bread and was more on the thinner side. It was loaded with toppings, but honestly the toppings overpowered the bread itself. Now the BREAKFAST SANDWICH was AMAZING!! I honestly wished I had ordered another one. I'm usually not a fan of English muffins, but the way this sandwich was made and assembled was PERFECT. From the toasted English muffin to the sausage patty, crispy hash brown, fried egg, tomato, and cheese!!!Every bite was so good! If they bring this sandwich back to the menu it is a MUST TRY! From the regular menu we also tried the Fried Chicken Crunch Wrap Supreme. It was okay. The chicken was hot and fresh, and even the dipping sauce was good. However, the Doritos were soggy, and for me, there was way too much cabbage in the inside. Overall, it was just okay. The Treasure Chest Frozen Flight is an absolute must. Not only are the drinks delicious, but they come with a cute little sparkler, which makes the whole experience a little celebration. The Saturn was my favorite. And of course, living in Houston, we all know Sunday = Sunday Funday! So yes, it was packed inside. They did have plenty of seating outside. Winnie's is seat yourself and order at the bar, and there was plenty of room to either share tables or stand around and wait for a party to finish so you could grab a seat. Overall, if you haven't been to Winnie's yet, you should definitely check it out! The breakfast sandwich alone is worth the visit if it makes its way back onto the menu. read more

Took a friend of mine for her bday brunch and wanted to check out Winnie's because she likes southern food, and it was close by. Parking can be confusing if you aren't familiar with downtown because it's off Main St. There is a connected parking garage which you have to pay for; I think it was around $10, not sure if it can be validated because I didn't ask. When we came, it was super lively; they had a DJ playing and it was definitely vibey and a great place to start your Sunday Funday. The setup is: you pay, they give you a number, and bring your food to the table. The seating is open and they have a large patio area as well. We were there for HRW brunch which was 25 for 2 courses, but the menu had me excited as a seafood lover. I saw oysters and so many other foods I love to come back and try. I got the Trio of Deviled Eggs and my friend went with hash brown potato skins. For our main we had the NOLA BBQ Shrimp and Grits. She also got the Treasure Chest Frozen Flight, which comes with all four of the frozens they offer in a Treasure Chest with Sparklers which was perfect for her bday. Everyone was friendly; it was busy, but despite that a really good experience and I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. read more

Stopped in last night with a couple of friends. We sat at the bar since we were impatiently ordering our pizza from around the corner. I am glad we made that stop. The expresso martini was so much better than the other one we had elsewhere last night. The other didn't even have the beans. Now no one wants an unlucky martini. The bartender Maddie was so sweet and actually interactive with her customers. Honestly she was what I feel a good bartender should be described as. Friendly, informative and good at making drinks. The overall feel was weird when I'm used to going around Christmas. It felt to bare. However, I like the old feel of the building overall. Plenty of seating inside and outside. read more
Winnie's is my happy place and I'm so sad I don't live next door to them any more. It's a cute little place and I love the different seating options. Also, their Christmas pop up is so festive and fun every year! The wait staff is so nice, the food is amazing and the drinks can't be beat! They have an amazing happy hour with absolutely unbeatable oyster prices. Their chargrilled oysters are my love language and their shrimp poboy is delicious. Also, best ranch ever. This local bar located in the heart of downtown was a fun and festive pick for a late holiday lunch. Our server, Jonah, was attentive and informative about top picks. The Christmas decor was very cute and jolly. To drink, I opted for the Run Run Reindeer- a spiced mimosa which was really good. The oysters were a great pick, with pieces of diced apples on top. This was a great pairing with the brie and bacon toppings. The price point was a bit high for only receiving 4 that were on the smaller side. The Winn-a-burger was cooked to perfection and very filling. Can't wait to dine in during their regular hours! read more
I love Winnie's and this will now be one of my Houston staples when visiting. The ambience, food, service... it's all really great. We stopped in on a Friday night during what happened to be restaurant week. We ordered a few different restaurant week drink flights and a variety of food. I'd describe the food as a modern day take on classic American comfort food. Think Mac and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, meatloaf, deviled eggs, banana pie, jello shooters, and others. I didn't know American comfort food could be so good. There are several vegetarian options; I'd ask about vegan because I know they can make them but not sure they're on the menu. Huge shout out to Mario who served us on Friday night, and then also supported my cousin's birthday party a few days later. He was awesome, super nice, and a great server and host! read more

Winnie's is my new go-to place for Happy Hour inside the loop! Monday to Friday HH 3-6 pm, and all day HH on Tuesday. You just can't beat the $1 Gulf Coast oysters and $7 cocktails. The oysters were so fresh and HUGE, and the cocktails always get me a little buzzed. The Saturn frozen is my favorite. I've been twice in the past month and look forward to coming back for their holiday bar! read more

I just woke up from my coma. My coma that was induced by the greatest appetizers and sandwiches I've ever had in my life. Honestly I wouldn't have cared if the doctor didn't bring me back because there isn't much more to live for after you've tasted heaven on earth. The head chef in this place is a mad scientist and Houston is lucky to have him. A chicken parm Caesar salad sandwich with a vodka sauce?? Best sandwich I've ever had in my life. The only thing I could think about was what is this guy going to create in a sandwich after thanksgiving. I don't know what but I know I'll be there. Last tip... before I go back into my coma... Try the boudain spring rolls. Trust me. read more

Other than the aesthetic, I can't really say anything positive about this place. I've been dragged here 4x and every time I come here we are treated with the worst service. The food is awful and overpriced for what it is. The drinks were cute but like I said, the prices were not worth it. It was unfortunate that the bathrooms were down but why not close for the day? Instead of sending your customers next door to "double trouble" to get stared at. Just a weird experience..... 100% do not recommended this place. read more
"Miracles at Winnie " review: made reservations for 10 for my department holiday lunch (physical rehabilitation stjoseph hospital nearby). Was easy , what they didn't tell me was a party of that size with standard reservations automatically placed on the patio(enclosed tent, unless a patron buy out establishment for the day). I noticed on the reservation (patio ) so inquired that's when I was told we had to be outside. Wasn't a deal breaker. Located off main right in front of light rail downtown , plenty parking around (would avoid the garage at high peak times it was chaos getting out ) . Arrived hostess in pj flannel pants and crop top (mind you it's family friendly before 8pm ) we had a little wait for our 3pm reservation time. Seated outside it was warm and even more humid under the non ventilated tent enclosure I started sweating immediately requested something inside to be told by hostess in flannel pants everything reserved didn't even try to speak with upper leadership I asked our server if something could be done and he escalated it to someone in charge and she worked with us to move us inside. It was like they didn't want paying customers to be paying customers continue to say tables reserved when the tables actually stayed Empty duration of our reservation. Food. Salty most dishes few items sent back was overly salty dry rub wings no lemon just pepper , my daughters reported even the cookies were salty but edible enough to them. Water served in 10-12 oz plastic cups , small place but well Decorated inside . 22% gratuity on groups 8 or more ...to me a bit excessive . Plenty of photo opportunities inside and out ! I will definitely go again just for the bar area for some drinks. read more
Hidden gem for sure! I came in for their hh special. A half a shrimp poboy with a cup of gumbo and two drink for $13. The food was good, the place had a nice swanky vibe and the staff was friendly. Almost forgot to mention these DELICIOUS chocolate chip cookies that they have with like a caramel of toffee of some kind. (Not photographed) read more
We ate here halloween week and it was really good, we had the fish sandwich, burger, and pesto mac and cheese sandwich. We all really enjoyed our food and the staff was very friendly and helpful and the place was pretty comfortable and really nice. read more
