They had 2 servers for a pretty busy house :/ so service was inevitably slow. Like it took 15-20 mins to PLACE an order. Vibes were great but we went during trivia night and I guess the trivia MCs were in charge of music because it was PAINFULLY loud. My ears still hurt. The food was fine. Would not recommend the oysters. Not very well shucked :( the crunch wrap was OK. It's like a fancier Taco Bell menu item...with lots of pickled vegetables. Would try different things next time! I recently visited Winnie's on two occasions for their Christmas Miracle pop-up. I've heard many great things about Winnie's and was excited to check it out. There isn't any parking, but I was lucky to find street parking nearby on one occasion. There is also a paid garage around the corner. During this time of year, the whole place is decorated super nice with lights and Christmas decor throughout. They even cover the (normally open) patio to enhance the visual effect of all the Christmas lights. Reservations are recommended during peak times, but there was a good flow of people, so it didn't look like there was really a long wait (if any). I ordered the fried pickles, which came out super fast. The pickles were piping hot and the breading was crispy. The pickle chips were served with a side of spicy ranch which complimented them perfectly. Everyone at our table seemed to enjoy these. For my Miracle drink, I got the Snowball Old-Fashioned, which is your standard old fashioned enhanced with gingerbread flavor. Was it worth $17 for a cocktail in Houston? Probably not, but I'm thinking this is the markup for the pop-up and to enjoy the limited-time Christmas spirit. Service was decent. During one visit, I asked our server if they were doing happy hour specials and he bluntly responded with "no." When I asked if it was because of the pop-up, he basically said he didn't know because he doesn't normally work here. Weird answer, but ok. Otherwise, he was fairly attentive to our large group and drinks came out fast. I'll definitely come back to Winnie's during the normal time of year to try their other food and drink offerings. So good! So fun! Everyone working was wearing themed Master's weekend shirts, how fun! Although, it's never the same as Miracle at Winnie's, the atmosphere is always fun. This time my husband got the chicken fried steak (it doesn't tell you on the menu that it comes with sides, bonus!). My husband gave me the potato salad that comes with it, delicious. I got the catfish and grits, grilled. The catfish was a bit salty, but the chow chow evened it out. We also got the crawfish Queso. They are really generous with the crawfish in it. The chips are fine, but our side of fries were better with it. This restaurant actually makes me happy, and is probably my favorite non fine dining restaurant. read more

Winnie's is known for its Christmas flair but it should be known for its great Friday special! I went on a Friday with a friend and sat at the bar, waited on by the lovely Seth. We went for the $1 daiquiris that only happens from 11 AM- 3 PM per the menu! Seth knows how to make an incredible shaken martini, so drink at your own risk. In addition to my martini, I had the fried chicken crunch wrap supreme, yes a play on the Taco Bell classic. It was my first time having it and at only $14, it does rival the original. Yes I came back AGAIN for my now 3rd annual Christmas bar popup. This time, it looks like they added more seats inside. Also they didn't have the mulled wine like last year, but a different hot cocktail that was a bit too cinnamon or nutmeg spicy for me. So I went with the Santa's Secret (I believe). It was similar to a frozen pina colada, and it was strong! I had completely forgotten how strong their drinks are and thought that I was gonna be able to get the hot chocolate. Well no I was not! So with my drink, I also tried their double fried wings with the Asian Seoul flavor and my goodness it was sweet, spicy and good! I also got their loaded gumbo fries and that was really good. I think I liked it because of the cheese because I wasn't getting much "Gumbo" flavor but like a gravy though. Nonetheless, it was really good. Once in a while, we stop by this bar as it's right in the middle of midtown/downtown walking area. You can park on the street nearby or in parking garages. The interior is so cute on a regular day but it's an absolute joy coming during Christmas time. They have it decorated up like vintage Christmas from the 80s/90s. The food and drinks are pretty good too. Always small and simple menu. I like their gumbo as well. Not the best I've ever had but still pretty good. Service is always nice. read more

My friend had the Beach Please which was quite tasty! This bar was so cute inside with plenty of seating at the bar & in the booths. There was also outside seating as well. I was originally looking to get the strawberry daiquiri but I'm so happy that she recommended the Frozen Saturn. What a game changer! Stopped in last night with a couple of friends. We sat at the bar since we were impatiently ordering our pizza from around the corner. I am glad we made that stop. The expresso martini was so much better than the other one we had elsewhere last night. The other didn't even have the beans. Now no one wants an unlucky martini. This local bar located in the heart of downtown was a fun and festive pick for a late holiday lunch. Our server, Jonah, was attentive and informative about top picks. The Christmas decor was very cute and jolly. To drink, I opted for the Run Run Reindeer- a spiced mimosa which was really good. The oysters were a great pick, with pieces of diced apples on top. We stopped in on a Friday night during what happened to be restaurant week. We ordered a few different restaurant week drink flights and a variety of food. I'd describe the food as a modern day take on classic American comfort food. Think Mac and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, meatloaf, deviled eggs, banana pie, jello shooters, and others. I didn't know American comfort food could be so good. There are several vegetarian options; I'd ask about vegan because I know they can make them but not sure they're on the menu. Winnie's is my new go-to place for Happy Hour inside the loop! Monday to Friday HH 3-6 pm, and all day HH on Tuesday. You just can't beat the $1 Gulf Coast oysters and $7 cocktails. The oysters were so fresh and HUGE, and the cocktails always get me a little buzzed. The Saturn frozen is my favorite. As far as neighborhood bars go, this one does it right. I came in a Thursday night. While disappointed to find they only have oysters in Tuesdays, I was pleasantly surprised by the other offerings. We sat at a table which meant walking up to the bar to order which is a bit annoying but we were warned when we walked in. I got a whiskey sour (with egg white) and it was ok. Nothing special or strong. The hero of the night was the jerk chicken po boy. Sooo good. I got a side of fries with it which came out cold so I didn't really eat them. The vibe of the bar is nice, about 1/3 full at 8 on a weekday. They don't validate parking in the deck and it's $4 for an hour, $6 1.5 hour and I think $10 after 2 hours so it adds up quickly. Honestly I wouldn't have cared if the doctor didn't bring me back because there isn't much more to live for after you've tasted heaven on earth. "Miracles at Winnie " review: made reservations for 10 for my department holiday lunch (physical rehabilitation stjoseph hospital nearby). Was easy , what they didn't tell me was a party of that size with standard reservations automatically placed on the patio(enclosed tent, unless a patron buy out establishment for the day). I noticed on the reservation (patio ) so inquired that's when I was told we had to be outside. Wasn't a deal breaker. Located off main right in front of light rail downtown , plenty parking around (would avoid the garage at high peak times it was chaos getting out ) . Arrived hostess in pj flannel pants and crop top (mind you it's family friendly before 8pm ) we had a little wait for our 3pm reservation time. Seated outside it was warm and even more humid under the non ventilated tent enclosure I started sweating immediately requested something inside to be told by hostess in flannel pants everything reserved didn't even try to speak with upper leadership I asked our server if something could be done and he escalated it to someone in charge and she worked with us to move us inside. It was like they didn't want paying customers to be paying customers continue to say tables reserved when the tables actually stayed Empty duration of our reservation. Food. Salty most dishes few items sent back was overly salty dry rub wings no lemon just pepper , my daughters reported even the cookies were salty but edible enough to them. Water served in 10-12 oz plastic cups , small place but well Decorated inside . 22% gratuity on groups 8 or more ...to me a bit excessive . Plenty of photo opportunities inside and out ! Went to Winnie's for the miracle pop up, which was nicely decorated. We were on the covered patio, which blocked any wind and there were heaters available as well. The drinks at the Miracle pop ups are always the same and were made well at this location. The menu was modified and had plenty of vegetarian options. As I walked up to the place, with the metro rail on my left, I noticed the good-sized, enclosed patio with park bench style seating. This would be great for a nice day. Drinks- I attempted to order the Grapefruit Ranch Water, but they were out. So, instead, I went with the Spanish Smash. It was pretty tasty, almost mojito- esq without the heavy mint. The spirit was sherry, which I don't have much experience with, but enjoyed. Next, I had the Classic Shaken Daquri. This was served fancy, in a coup glass. It was not like any daquri I have ever had. It was a smoother, more defined taste and frothy, I liked it. That spirit was Rum. Their happy hour ends at 5p, too bad, unsure what crowd they are trying to appeal to with those hours. Drinks were $7 bucks each on HH. Food - I had the chargrilled oysters, which I thought was on the HH menu, but I guess not, at $16 bucks. It comes with 4 oysters and 2 pieces of nicely browned bread. Parking - There is a garage up the block a little, not too far out the way, but it's a paid lot. Few other options for street parking, except the rail. This option isn't always convenient for folks coming from work outside of midtown. For some reason, this bar seemed out of place in comparison to the rest of the neighborhood. DO NOT GET THE VIETNAMESE GRITS. I should've known better than to expect a flavorful vietnamese broth with the grits as advertised... the broth was so bad lol However everything else was great! The strawberry french toast itself was super yummy and not too sweet but the syrup they give you is rumbased and it was way too strong we just ditched the syrup because we couldn't use it just too strong.
