We ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo (a little spicy ), the complimentary rolls (so tasty!), potatoes with caviar--which reminded me of my bestie eating caviar with potato chips ... bad and bougie! --the mussels and frites, and the lettuce wraps. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We'll definitely be back! And a bonus: Happy Hour is every day from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Let me start by saying that if a few things had been handled differently, my overall experience would have been much better. We had a reservation and requested a booth. My sister also asked if we could be seated facing the TVs because we wanted to watch the semifinal basketball game. Once seated, we were handed menus that, in my opinion, are oversized for the size of the tables and take up far too much room. Shortly after being seated, a gentleman came to the table and informed us that the bartender would also be our server. It was a little confusing, but I have experienced similar setups before, so I didn't think much of it at first. The bartender came over and it quickly became apparent that he was not very knowledgeable about the menu. We had questions about the oysters because they were listed individually at around $4.95 each, which seemed unusual. I'm used to ordering oysters by the half dozen or dozen. What made it more confusing is that the menu also offered half dozen and dozen options. When we asked him to explain the differences between the oyster selections, he really couldn't. We explained that we were looking for traditional raw oysters with lemon and hot sauce, and his response was basically, "Yeah, that's what they are." When we asked what made the different varieties unique, he couldn't tell us and said he would come back after we had more time to look at the menu. We ultimately had to Google the differences ourselves. If you're serving specialty oysters, your staff should be able to explain what makes them different. Once we finally ordered, we selected two different varieties of raw oysters along with a couple of appetizers. I have to say, the appetizer menu is incredible. In fact, I found it more appealing than the entrée menu. The raw oysters were excellent and easily one of the highlights of the meal. They were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were looking for. Because I enjoyed them so much, I decided to order a half dozen charbroiled oysters. Unfortunately, they were a complete disappointment. I understand they're cooked, but they tasted like an entirely different product and lacked flavor. For me, they were a 1 out of 10. The crab and artichoke dip was very good and I'd rate it an 8 out of 10. My sister ordered the lobster tail, which was a perfect 10 out of 10. I ordered the lobster roll, which was excellent. I'd give it a 9 out of 10, and the fries were also very good. My biggest issue was the service model. The kitchen was actually very fast, so food preparation was not the problem. The delays occurred whenever we needed something. Whether it was placing another order, asking a question, or simply getting water, everything took longer than it should have because our bartender was also responsible for a busy bar. To be fair, several other employees stepped in and checked on us throughout the evening. However, if five different people have to help one table, that's a pretty clear indication that the setup isn't working. In my opinion, a bartender should not be responsible for serving dining tables while also managing a full bar. We should have had a dedicated server. The live music was enjoyable and the musicians did a great job. However, I found it odd to have live music and a major basketball game happening simultaneously. Many guests appeared to be there specifically to watch the game, and the two experiences seemed to compete with each other rather than complement one another. The valet service was also disappointing. We waited quite a while for my sister's vehicle, to the point that I genuinely wondered whether they had misplaced it. One final observation was the bartender's overall energy. The customer service simply wasn't there. He seemed disengaged throughout most of our interactions. Interestingly, when my male companion interacted with him, his attitude appeared noticeably more engaged and energetic. I don't know if he was annoyed by our questions about the oysters, but the difference was noticeable. Overall, I liked the restaurant and I would return. The raw oysters, lobster tail, lobster roll, and appetizer menu were all standouts. However, I would choose a different seating area and strongly recommend reconsidering the practice of having bartenders serve dining tables while also tending a busy bar. The food is good enough to bring me back, but the service experience kept this visit from being as enjoyable as it could have been. read more

We picked Loch Bar for a Friday date night, in part because of an offer they had in the InKind App. The restaurant is located in the same complex at Equinox and many high end shops. You can valet at the front for 10 dollars or parking in the parking garage for free. We made our reservation for 6:30 because they do happy hour from 3-7 every day. However, I was disappointed to hear that they only offer happy hour at the bar, not in the main dining area. The menus were way too big for our small table, so we quickly chose what food we wanted so we could get rid of them. We ordered 3 raw oysters (best bite- great quality and set up), the cream of crab soup (tasty but also so rich), the chicken and shrimp gumbo (decent) to start. We also ordered the tuna poke (wouldn't recommend and needed a cracker/ vessel), the mussels (large portion but lacked flavor), the fried lobster tail (honey butter flavor was unique but was way too rich) and the crab cake sandwich (fine and great crab chunks, but nothing special). Our server was very nice and attentive, even when her coworkers dropped the ball. She went and found us bread when it didn't arrive. Our waters were always filled. We sat by the front door and the waitress computer station. During this time, a man was very frustrated with a service charge on his bill and was fussing at the manager right next to our table. The manager was sweet and took a moment to apologize to us for the commotion and sent us a complimentary passion fruit creme brûlée. We decided to check out Loch Bar on Valentine's Day. Reservations were made weeks in advance for a table of four. Valet is available for a fee, otherwise you can do garage parking within a short walk. It was pouring rain and though the valet had umbrellas, they had me standing in the pouring rain while they got my phone number so they could send me a link to pay for my parking. They have a really nice patio out front facing Westheimer. The check in area was a little crowded especially since it was Valentine's and the weather outside, so getting through to our table was a little rough. Customer service was great. Dee was our server and he did an amazing job from start to finish. He was friendly and gave great suggestions. Our drinks, apps and entrees came out with a quickness as well. I also like that on certain days, they have live music. Even when the live music wasn't happening, they play some good jams and the place stays lively. They had it nicely decorated for the holiday as well. I started off with one of their Valentine's drink specials called You, Me, and whiskey. It was their take on an old fashioned complete with flowers inside. It was good and a generous pour. As far as the menu goes, seafood is their thing, but they have non seafood options as well. For an appetizer, we shared the Crispy Calamari. Portion was kind of small for the price but it tasted really good. For my entree, I went with one of the popular items, the Blackened Redfish. The dish was kind of sloppily plated for a fine dining establishment. To me, the dish had good flavor, but I felt the temps were off. It was just warm and I felt the fish was slightly overcooked. Maybe they premade things to get the crowds in and out on a busy night. When the check came, there was a little sticker shock. The prices online and the ones posted on their actual menus are way off. Now I don't mind paying for a good meal, but they should really be consistent with what they put online and what they actually charge. They also auto gratuity even for a table of four. Loch Bar Happy Hour is a hit!!! On a random Wednesday, my boyfriend and I decided to go to this happy hour (that I've seen good things about on social media). It's always 50-50 seeing viral spots online, but I decided to give it a try since the menus I saw online seemed promising. Loch Bar is located in River Oaks - when you first pull in, you'll have to look for the parking garage behind the restaurant for free parking. The front lot is just for valet ($10 valet). The garage is not a far walk from the restaurant, you'll just need to drive up 3 floors to get to free parking/non-reserved parking. It was not busy on a Wednesday at 5pm. It's open bar seating, and thankfully there were spots at the bar. There were two menus - a special oyster menu (discounted $1 oysters, originally $1.50 on regular HH days, other specialty oysters + grilled oysters for $2.50 which is a steal) and the normal HH menu. I was SO excited to see $1 oysters! I haven't found a place in Houston that generously serves dollar oysters. They were sweet, briny, and came with toppings like vinegar, lemon, tabasco, cocktail sauce, and horse radish. I order a second round after I finished the mere 4 I initially ordered. They varied in sizes, some smaller, some big. Other items I ordered: - Brussel Sprouts 4.5/5 -- these were delish! For me, a little heavy on the honey. They were pretty sweet, but my boyfriend loved them because they were that way. The red peppers they garnish on top are spicy, as a warning lol. - Loch Burger (split between 2 people) 4/5 -- double patty burger. This burger was standard. It wasn't bad. Good for the price and juicy as well. - Cheesy Tater Tots 5/5 -- Not your typical tots, they were layered and deep fried and slightly cheesy. You only get 5 pieces, but they complemented the burger nicely. They even put caviar to top! Granted, it didn't have much texture aside from being salty, but still, very fancy. The service was great. Our waters were filled at all times, and the bartenders were attentive. Only downside was, I think they gave pull apart bread with butter to some people, but we didn't get any when we sat down. I didn't see it on the menu, so not sure if they just missed us. Yum, had a great experience at Loch Bar! We stumbled in after some shopping and were pleasantly surprised to find it was happy hour on a Saturday (3-7 daily!). We were greeted by kind servers and started with complimentary pull-apart bread and butter (amazing). Our table shared the chicken and sausage gumbo (slightly too peppery for our taste, but still so good and I'd absolutely order it again), moules frites, and the Loch Bar burger. Every single day from 4-7 plus reverse happy hour from 10-1 on Sundays and Monday's I believe? So I've tried the oysters (which was my first time trying raw oysters and I think I prefer them chargrilled), the beef tenderloin (perfect), and the calamari (on the saltier side but also delicious). For drinks I've tried the sparkling house wine which I enjoyed, the lemon drops, and a French 75 which all were tasty, and more importantly, STRONG. Great music and food, and it's right next to my gym which makes it super convenient. I recently moved to Houston for work and have been trying different spots around the area, and this one definitely stood out. Came here on a Wednesday night and it was pretty busy but not overly crowded. Tried the chicken & sausage jambalaya and it was so yummy. We sat at the bar and tried the margaritas, which were great, and the bartenders were really nice and welcoming. Loch Bar's happy hour is one of my favorites in the city. The drink deals are very good and the food is delicious. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone who dislikes seafood and raw shellfish, however, since they really pride themselves on their fresh oysters. We arrived at an odd hour around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon and the bar area was very busy and already almost full. I'm not sure the best time to arrive since the bar remained pretty full the entire time we were there, but I would say it is worth the wait. My favorite items were the raw oysters, the mussels and fries, and the complimentary bread. The oysters were a little inconsistent in size and we had a few with shell fragments in them, but overall the oysters were very fresh and sweet. The bread comes out soon after you place your order and the garlic herb butter paired with the slightly crispy crust is an elite combination. The star of the show for me was definitely the mussels and fries. The broth that the mussels come in is perfect for dipping the fries in (and bread if you have any left over at that point). CHRISTOPHER immediately apologized and explained the plating process; however, he made it right and it was delicious. Lobster roll - Tuesday $25 roll with salad. It is very small with a great helping of Maine lobster on a soft roll. I would suggest ordering two if you are hungry or maybe adding an additional appetizer as a meal option depending on your appetite. Dessert Espresso Martini Smith Island Cake - OH MY GOODNESS. A Seventeen layer cake which includes the ganache and yellow cake (YES I COUNTED). This alone speaks volumes of a restaurant that literally provide exactly what they describe. What you read is what you get. We also received a glass of PAUL CHEVALIER BRUT in celebration of our 50th birthday which was pretty tasty and on the sweet side of the palate. Then to top the evening off CHRISTOPHER kept checking on us, remembered everyone's name and made sure to keep us smiling. He is a great asset to this company. He was even our photographer to make sure our memories were captured perfectly. Mackenzie needs to be the TRAINER because her wit, tactics and attention to preciseness was on point. TikTok brought me here and I was pleasantly surprised. While at the dentist I realized this wasn't too far and decided to stop by for happy hour. I got there right in time because it began filling up fast. The hostess is very nice. She explained that open seating is at the first bar but to come back if I didn't find a seat. My waitress Mackenzie was so helpful answering all my questions. She was very personable checking in and making sure I enjoyed everything. To start I ordered a espresso martini with Kahlúa due to her suggestion and oysters. It was delicious! For my second martini I ordered the regular espresso and that was good too followed by a burger. For cocktails we ordered the Tiny Dancer and Orange Crush The former was refreshing and crisp, and the latter was nostalgic of an orange cream soda. As an appetizer, we ordered the crab and artichoke dip which was pretty good. The bread was a bit too crunchy for me but I used for delicious complimentary bread we received as a vessel. For entrees we ordered the Maine lobster roll, a cup of the cream of crab soup and a side of mashed potatoes. Initially I liked the soup but after a few spoonfuls it started to taste a bit salty. Last night, I enjoyed a food adventure at Loch Bar in Houston. I've had this place on my list for a while, having visited several nearby restaurants and eyeing this one. I chose the chef's three-course sampler: cream of crab soup, oysters, and a half spicy Nashville fried chicken with mashed potatoes and honey sriracha Brussels sprouts. The bread, whose name I don't know, was very good, and for dessert, I had the butter cake. The highlights of the night were the crab soup and the Nashville fried chicken. In my opinion, the cream of crab soup needed jumbo lump crab meat to garnish it. Otherwise, the taste was on point! The fried chicken was cooked perfectly--crispy on the outside and tender inside, with spices that hit the mark. I came by here today for a work meeting / lunch. I noticed the special for today was a Cowboy Burger, which if you know me and the season, It's on brand. It was served on a wooden board, which added a nice touch, but I couldn't help but think that just meant I was getting less fries and had it been on an normal plate. The burger itself had a lot going for it--the fried pickles, fried onions, cheese, and bacon jam were all flavorful, and the bun was soft, fresh, and high quality. However, the two thin, well-done patties weren't as juicy as I would have liked; a thicker, more medium-cooked patty would have made a big difference. The fries were just average--not much flavor but decently cooked. Given the burger's toppings, I think it would have been even better if it came with onion rings or extra fried pickles on the side instead of just a couple squeezed between the burger and the bun. The jalapenos on top were a nice touch snd I ended up eating those with the fries. Service was good, and the atmosphere was nice, though the booth seating felt a bit snug. Overall, a solid experience, but a few tweaks could have made it even better. read more

Loch Bar delivered on every front! We came specifically for the raw oysters and left already planning our next visit. They had an impressive selection from both coasts, and every oyster was fresh, cold, and briny in the best way. My personal favorites were the Pink Moon and Matagorda Pearls. Pink Moon was sweeter while the Matagorda Pearls had a saltier note. While we didn't explore the rest of the menu this time, the oyster experience alone has me excited to come back and try more. Service: From start to finish, the service was top-tier, attentive, and very welcoming. Ambiance: We sat outdoors, which was lovely. The vibe was upscale but relaxed, with a subtle buzz in the air that made for a perfect evening. You can tell Loch Bar knows how to create a refined yet inviting atmosphere. Very terrible service. Bartenders are horrible. Service is bad and the manager who works is awful. O customer service skills. Just all around awful service. Sat at the bar. Everyone behind the bar looked me in my face and never said hello. Never asked me if I wanted water a drink nothing. I guess they would have allowed me to sit there all night if the girl next to me didn't get their attention. Just awful experience. My thing is if you're at work. Just do your job. Their happy hour was great! Tons of items for $5 and it was a great atmosphere. At first we could only be sat outside, but I asked if a table inside opened up, could we be moved? The hostess was so sweet and let us know we could move inside and sat us quickly. I would go back for the cheesy tater tots and Brussels sprouts. The crush drink was also nice and refreshing. Loch Bar was such a fantastic, unexpected and pleasant surprise. I had my wife for the afternoon and wanted to hit up happy hour around the galleria area. I was struggling mightily as to where to go as some didn't really meet my criteria and time table. However we ultimately decided on Loch Bar since it was close to us at the moment, had a simple and reasonably priced happy hour menu all the while fitting our schedule. Fancy, sophisticated and minimalistic, the faculty is tucked in the front in-between store fronts. Holy cow, so glad we came. We were instantly greeted with a very enthusiastic host and explained that their happy hour was the best in town. His energy really seeped into us as we were both giddy getting into our booth. Once there, we were greeted with the same energy. We loved it from the get go. We ordered the Arnold Palmer slush and house red wine. The sheer amount of these drinks can knock the boots off of you. The Arnold Palmer slush was a healthy full 16 ounces of booze that tasted delicious too. The house red wine was also more generous than the standard 4 ounce pour which I absolutely loved! Food: We got 3 oyster shooters, mussels, - 2 vodka and 1 beer shooters because I wanted to taste the dif. Holy cow, you can't shoot 3 ounces bro. The shot glasses came in those 4 ounce beer sample cups filled with at LEAST 2 ounce vodka, bloody mary mix and an oyster. Man you can get drunk off your butt with a few of these for under $10. Srsly bro so GUUUUUD. Mussels - Wine sauce, fries, mussels really you can't go wrong. 1 dozen oysters - $1.50 each. Fresh, slurpy and delicious. They have other kinds of oysters there for order as well, but the gulf oysters were on the happy hour menu. Ceviche - WOW, If I came to get one dish the ceviche here would had been it! Healthy portioned and with good amount of bread/crackers it was fantastically sour/spicy. Gumbo - Wife wanted the cup of gumbo. Good but wasn't great in my book. I coulda saved the $6 dollars and added more oysters or ordered 3 more shooters! Complimentary bread with garlic butter. A great snacky snack by itself Loch Bar has rocketed to the top of our favorite happy hour spot. It was such a refreshing surprise to find a gem like this with zero expectation. I couldnt' give it a full 5 stars because we didn't try the main menu but we're blown away by the happy hour. WILL be back. read more

One of the best crab cakes in town. Big chunks of fresh crab meat, perfectly cooked. Very satisfying dish without the calories. The oysters are so fresh and tasty. They are from different areas every time and a must try if you are into sampling different east coast oysters. Only thing they should improve is to maintain the restrooms more frequently. Best crab cake i have had in a LONG time. It's more crab than stuffing and it is modest in size. The happy hour burger was also good. I tried other items which were decent (bread service, Mac and cheese, happy hour steak chops, gumbo) however the crab cake is what i plan to return for. I also want to check out their happy hour lobster roll deal on Tuesdays (or Wednesday...i forget which). I always enjoy the happy hour especially since it ends at 7! The drinks are great and the food is good. I do wish the food was a bit bigger as it used to be but still taste good. You're going to want to come earlier for happy hour as it now gets busier towards the end. The ambience is great and the service is nice. Will definitely come back! read more
