Overall: 3.2/5 [dine in] We dined here for breakfast twice and dinner once since we had free breakfast and dining credit through Chase. The service was great but the food took forever to come out both times. If you want to eat by the pool you have to be a hotel guest and order to go. They also missed one of our side swaps and forgot to switch out the potato hash for fresh fruit. Iced Hazelnut Latte ($6.50) and Iced Vanilla Latte ($6.50): We got both with oat milk and they were equally tasty. Hangover Burger ($22): We ordered medium rare and it came out overcooked. The patty was so hard it was difficult to cut through and I had to drench mine in sauce because it was so dry. They cut it in half and served the sunny side up egg separately so the yolk wouldn't run, which was a thoughtful touch. The potato hash was okay but felt like unnecessary carbs. Sausage ($8): A side of 3 links that tasted like maple syrup since they were on the sweeter side. Short Rib Eggs Benedict ($24): The short rib was just okay and the hollandaise sauce was too thick, almost like the egg in it was overcooked. It also had a citrus aftertaste at first. The poached eggs were perfect though. Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict ($24): Way better than the short rib version. The smoked salmon wasn't fishy and they were generous with it. We swapped the potato hash for arugula salad which paired really well. Classic Omelette ($21): I got it with fresh eggs, chicken sausage, and all the veggies. I asked for pepper jack on the side since my husband is lactose intolerant but the cheese had a white powder on it so I skipped it. Without the cheese the omelette was a bit bland and I couldn't really taste the chicken sausage either. Tuna Poke Taco ($18): Came with two tacos. The tuna was soy marinated but they used too much and it was a bit salty with soy sauce dripping out of the taco. The tuna itself and everything else was good though. Half Dozen Oysters ($24): Served with a green apple champagne mignonette. Pricey but not bad. Shrimp and Basil Mint Pasta ($36): Came with 2 slices of sourdough that were just okay and felt unnecessary. The shrimp were tasty but the pasta was disappointing. Too much pasta, not cooked properly, and no veggies. The flavors were just okay too. Expensive for what was essentially a bowl of carbs. H-Town Henry ($18): Hennessy VS, lemonade, and sweet tea. THE BIG: Located in the lobby of the Thompson Houston. Indoor seating along with an expansive outdoor patio area that has foldable glass doors to bring in all the fresh air. Garage parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I was staying at the Thompson and had our two month old son with us. It was our first time bringing him out. Most of the seating is chairs and tables, however in the back there are booths that we were able to have him stretch out. Food wise, we got the omelete, granola, and chicken and waffles. We missed the breakfast and decided to come down for lunch before checking out. Their drink menu had lots of selections. We ordered the Hisbiscus Margarita and the Spritz del sol, which made with casamigos blanco, pineapple, lime, and jalapeno. Both drinks were delicious. I had the Jumbo lump crab cake, which came with spicy aioli, argula salad, and truffle fries. It's really fullfilling, the spicy aioli was amazing. But the crab cake itself was abit too salty and the flavor felt slightly overwhelming. But there was a wide range of selection on the menu for appetizers. The food I thought was okay the only thing I really loved was the truffle fries. I really wanted to do the whole rooftop bar thing but it was 92 out and felt like 102, so no thanks. Went with indoor seating but still wanted a view, and this place nailed it. It wasn't busy, so we had no trouble getting a table. Service was friendly, our waiter was great, and everyone else on staff seemed nice too. We ordered ahi tacos, oysters, fries, and a crab cake. Fries were super crispy and seasoned just right. Oysters were way milder than what I'm used to from the Pacific, but still fresh. The tacos were a little messy but tasty, and the crab cake was flavorful without being heavy. I chose Sol7 from its OpenTable reviews and great view of the Houston skyline as it was mine and my coworkers last evening in the area. We arrived to a beautiful high rise building; very excited to see this is where we would be dining, as we had drove past this building multiple times while traveling for work. Parking was a bit challenging, but we found a spot relatively close in a self park lot. We went up the restaurant and were greeted by the hostess who was shuffling back and forth helping the various customers arriving. We were seated at probably the worse table in the outside seating area. When I noticed there were multiple tables open with an actual view (not behind a giant pillar), the hostess (Andre) said the only options were this table or inside tables. When I inquired about the open tables with a view, he proceeded to tell me those were "for guests that had specified a view table in their reservation". Me, knowing I had specified such seating in my OpenTable reservation, started to pull my phone out and verbally said "yes, that is what I requested with my reservation." Andre then replied to me stating "This is the table you will be dining at this evening!" in an unpleasant, sharp tone without giving me time to show him the reservation on OpenTable. My colleague and I settled into our seats rather astounded by the treatment by Andre, we were greeted by our wonderful waiter, Nick, who took our drink and appetizer order. Nick had my colleague and I keep our menus, as we were not sure what entree we would be ordering yet. A few minutes passed, my colleague and I had set our menus on the table, and Andre re-appeared at our table abruptly. I greeted him with the best smile I could muster up, and he asked "If we had been helped yet?" I responded with "Yes, Nick is taking care of us". Andre then asked "Have you been able to order?" I responded, with "Yes, we have placed our order for drinks and appetizers." Andre then responded with "Well, are you done with your menus?" I responded "No, we have not placed our order for our Entree yet." Visibly annoyed, in an aggressive and annoyed tone Andre responded with "Well that's what I was asking!" and he stormed off. Again, rather stunned, my colleague and I found this "hospitality" quite unpleasant and completely uncalled for. Luckily, Nick reappeared a few moments later with our drink order and appetizers. We were able to place our order with Nick for our Entree's and handed him back our menus (I hope that they made their way back to Andre...?) On a positive note, I would highly recommend the "H-Town Tea". Also the Salmon was delicious, perfectly cooked and flavored with the right amount of spices. There was also live music, which was a pleasant surprise. It was very disappointing though to be treated in a poor manner by the hostess, Andre. There were only three tables filled during the whole time we were dinning but everything took so long. None of the servers were available when we needed anything, they stayed in the back the whole time. Food itself also took a long time to come out. When we got the food, I ended up finding a hair in my potatoes which was unfortunate... For food I had: FRUIT SALAD: Pretty large bowl of seasonal fruit. It was nice! Just wish the coconut chips it came with were more flavorful. BREAKFAST SANDWICH: Very flavorful and tasty. There was something in the sandwich that leaked a lot of fluid though so the sandwich itself got a little soggy but otherwise was a solid option. My take on the menu is it's great if you're wanting to watch your calorie intake, grab a quick bite and charge it on the company credit card - which I did tehehe. What an experience! My daughter took me for a surprise lunch. Sol 7 is a rooftop experience at the Thompson Hotel. This is a hidden gem. We were seated promptly and ordered appetizers and drinks. They were very delicious! However...we had to ask for plate covers because the breeze was literally blowing my salad off my plate. There's a nice view of the pool and the cityscape. I ordered the steak and fries. It was cooked perfectly (medium), but had little seasoning. The sauce was lightly flavored as well, and my fries were barely warm. ‍ My daughter however ordered the salmon and arugula salad. It was amazing!!! The crab cake we ordered was also delicious!!! Lunch was very relaxing. Our bill was a little steep at $180, but a good lunch can be had at much less. Meals were reasonably priced. Our four drinks raised the bill for sure. Service was great. Upon leaving I stopped at the restroom. Maybe my drink was effecting me, but I couldn't locate an accessible stall. I didn't see any clear signage or could determine by door size. This was the most disappointing restaurant/bar I've been to in Houston! We went on a beautiful Sunday--perfect weather for a rooftop spot like this. But the moment we walked in, there was zero vibe. Some random, terrible music was playing so quietly you could barely hear it. There were hardly any customers, so without chatter and with the music so poorly handled, it felt more like a library than a rooftop bar. We sat outside on our own and waited several minutes for a server, but no one came until we asked someone who was cleaning a table to find help. It was a bit chilly and windy, and we were seated near a table with a built-in fire pit. We asked if they could turn it on, and they told us it didn't work--which is wild considering this place is practically brand new and attached to one of the most expensive high-rises in Texas. We decided to move inside, but the vibe was just as dead. I can't believe a place that looks this amazing, with such a stunning downtown view, could be such a letdown. It was so bad my friend finished his drink and got out of there asap! Whoever is managing this place seriously needs to step it up. This spot has so much potential to be one of the best rooftop bars/restaurants in Houston, but the lack of energy, poor service, and overall mismanagement are ruining it. I won't be coming back, and I absolutely wouldn't recommend it. Seeing some of the 3-5 star reviews, I have no idea how anyone thought this was a great experience. I celebrated my 50th this past Saturday at Sol 7 (located on the 7th floor of The Thompson Hotel). Olia is an amazing event coordinator and the service, food and entire evening was flawless! The chef prepared 4 amazing appetizers - blue cheese / fig tarts, quail poppers, Paella arancini & Spanakopita! Our bartender was AMAZING and she went out of her way to serve our guests. We treated our guests to high end bubbles, white & red wine, French 75s and a variety of beer. When she was not busy she circulated and offered drinks to the the guests. For our late party munchies Sol 7 prepared a slider bar of burgers, brisket and all of the condiments! The truffle fries were perfectly crisp and loved by EVERYONE! Our event began in the library and included a reserved space on the patio of Sol7. The views of downtown were incredible and made for great photo ops! I was surprised by a few of the reviews as we had excellent service and the food was delightful. I do know that they have very recently created a new menu and the restaurant is now managed by the Thompson. It was previously operated by a third party. SO, don't base your decision to go on older reviews! You will be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy a nice cocktail or two and enjoy the spectacular view of Houston! We stayed at the hotel for the night as did a few other couples that were guests at our party. We all had a FABULOUS experience. The hotel is perfectly decorated and of stunning simplicity. The views overlying the city skyline is beautiful however that's the only good thing I have to say about this place. My friends and I had a reservation here on a Saturday night and service was absolutely atrocious. It took about 20 minutes of us being seated until we saw our waiter and the whole night was pretty much the same. Our drinks took forever, food took forever and we hardly ever saw our waiter. It was NOT busy the night we came so I'm not too sure what the hold up was. I got the baby gem green salad and it was the most basic salad I've ever eaten in my life. This is my second time checking out a restaurant at the Thompson Hotel, which is one of the newer hotel properties in Houston, and it didn't disappoint yet again. From the cocktails and food to the friendly servers, this restaurant made for a wonderful brunch experience. I would highly recommend partaking in the cornbread and eggs benedict - two of my favorite things. As you can imagine, this place gets pretty packed fast, so I would suggest making reservations as far in advance as you can. I was staying at the Thompson and needed a light afternoon meal, so I decided to check out Sol 7. You have to go up the elevator to find it and it's to the right of the hotel lobby. The interior is modern and classy. We sat at the bar but there are regular tables available. There's a wide selection of cocktails, liquor, and wines. My friend and I both ordered Cobb salads with dressing on the side. I added chicken and she added steak. The salad alone is $17 which is already pricey and I t's an additional cost to add a protein. So expect to spend around $30 for a salad and protein. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious but very expensive. I ordered a wine from one of the bartenders and it seemed he forgot about it, but I figured it was busy so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. The salads came out so I knew he forgot about it so I had to follow up with another bartender and she poured it right away for me. Overall Sol 7 is convenient if you're staying at the hotel, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here for food. I also ordered room service breakfast while staying at the Thompson, and the food came from Sol 7. I actually had to walk down to Sol 7 to place the room service order because no one was answering the phone. I ordered chilaquiles and my friend ordered the 2 eggs plate which came with potatoes, and choice of meat and toast. I ended up finding a hair laced in the chilaquiles (gross) so I called to complain, luckily someone finally answered. They brought me a new one very quickly, but by that point I lost my appetite so I didn't enjoy it. Firstly, valet parking is complimentary at the Thompson for 3 hours which is fantastic. That way you don't have to struggle finding parking in that hectic lot. Beyond that, reservations are strongly recommended, they are booked and busy. I came in with a friend and we asked to sit in the patio, which is first come first serve. We were sat out there and it was so nice and breezy, right by the pool. Downside was that they tend to sit larger parties outside too, which made it really loud out there. For appetizers we ordered the crab cake and avocado toast. The crab cake was delicious, honestly the best thing we had there. The avocado toast was just okay, I'm not the biggest fan of capers so I could've done without them. As an entree we ordered the chicken and waffles, the tenders were a little spicy which was nice, the waffle was soft and fluffy, and the caramelized banana was really good. Great rooftop views! I'm not sure if we just caught this place on a bad day, but a group of 8 of us went for Sunday brunch and had a terrible experience leaving none of us wanting to return. The service was incredibly slow, slow to take our drink order, slow to bring our drinks, then didn't take our food order when the drinks were brought. We probably waited another 20min just to order our food. Then the kitchen was incredibly slow to bring the food (which seemed overcooked when we got it). The chilaquiles were soggy with overcooked rubbery eggs. The steak and eggs and the breakfast sandwich both looked well below average. Two people ordered sides of fruit which never came but were still on the bill. I will say my mimosa and avocado toast were both executed well. If you have to go here for brunch, I recommend the avocado toast, and make sure the weather is nice so you can at least sit outside and get a nice view of the city. read more

I stopped in for breakfast to-go on Saturday morning, May 25th, around 9:45 AM. The restaurant was clearly in the middle of a rush--crowded lobby, lots of seated guests, and plenty of people checking in at once. I had ordered ahead, but my pickup took a little longer than expected due to the volume. That said, what stood out wasn't the food (which was excellent--the brûléed French toast was perfect), but the way Asia handled the situation. She was working the front, checking in on guests, juggling multiple groups at once, and still made the time to check on me more than once, update me without prompting, and genuinely apologize for the delay. She did all of that with professionalism and kindness, and made what could have been a frustrating experience feel like a non-issue. Asia was running point at the host stand and keeping everything moving under pressure. I was given some great suggestions, but due to allergies I could not try. The wagyu burger and duck fat fries were amazing along with the suggested drink, Act 1. I hadn't seen some of my girlfriends in a while, so we thought this would be a great spot to check out for happy hour. Pros: Our server Pauline was FANTASTIC! She was super attentive, and made a delicious latte that my friend ordered twice. I also thought it was clever for them to provide purse holders for each person Cons: (This is mostly based on happy hour) - the chips and salsa weren't flavorful at all, not worth the price - the margarita wasn't anything to write home about either - two of us ordered ranch water, none of us liked it - another friend ordered an espresso martini and didn't think it was fantastic either - For food, our group enjoyed the chicken tenders and duck fat fries. One of us ordered the sliders, but didn't love that the sliders were heavy with a mayo-based sauce, which didn't enhance the flavor. - Two of our members ordered from the regular menu: fish and chips, and the salmon. One commented that the fish and chips were alright, but another didn't finish her salmon; it was super watery and didn't have much flavor. Again- not worth the price. - Parking can also be a headache as there seem to never been any regular spots available, so prepare to pay for valet. Great views, obviously. Our waitress was amazing, I wish I remembered her name. She was so sweet and gave great recommendations. We went for a Sunday lunch. Didn't find the food to be life-changing, but it was pretty good. I got the garlic duck fat fries and the bolognese rigatoni. The tequila drink I ordered was delicious. I think I'll come back for brunch and see how that menu is. read more

Food: fine (salmon good). The rest was overpriced. Service: bad. I've been to a lot of cute, elevated restaurants in HTX and I can't say I would recommend this place (besides for pictures). We were there for a birthday reservation. We had called 3 days prior to confirm the reservation and outdoor seating, only to arrive and have the entire restaurant reserved for a party...weird considering we had just called and weren't informed. They explained the party was booked 6 months in advance. We ended up eating inside in the lobby... On top of this, the waiter was horrific. Slamming our drinks down and the bill (he wasn't aware of our situation just rude to begin with). Our drinks were comped by a kind hostess (possibly manager?) and he said that he didn't know about that so he could not do anything. We ended up getting the drinks for free after she intervened. Overall, disappointed. I just wish they had explained the situation when we called 3 days prior...or just not let people book when the outdoor restaurant was fully reserved. read more
