MARGHERITA PIZZA TEXAS SHORT RIB PIZZA
    Lauren P.

Been coming here for years and it's seriously never disappointed. It's definitely a go to spot. Great for pick up too. Their caesar salad is one of my favorites, the croutons are pretty epic. Great espresso martinis. Ambience is so cute inside and good views of my favorite faux beverly hills with the palm trees. Okay so pizza talk now. Pizza is very very very good. I used to always get the Margherita pizza which is a classic. Until one time we go the short rib and the marg. OUTSTANDING! I think about that pizza a lot. I'm pretty much a pizza connoisseur too. Anyways, I love pizzana.

Finally tried Pizzana! This spot has been on my list forever, especially since it's located right next to the River Oaks Theatre. Overall, the vibe didn't hit quite as expected to me. We were seated along the western wall which felt a little awkward at a table for 2 squished between two groups. They didn't have any draft beer which is sadly a must for me when having pizza!! Another thing I noticed was the wine wasn't served in traditional wine glasses which made it feel a little less polished than I expected (especially for the price). We ended up not ordering drinks and focusing on the pizza! The Cacio e Pepe was great for a few slices but the parmigiano creama ended up being way too overpowering for me. Though, we LOVED the diavola pizza and would definitely get this again! Overall, it doesn't seem like it'll turn into our pre-movie spot like I had hoped, but might just be personal preference! Service was lovely and kind.

The family loves pizza so of course we had to try this place. Staff was friendly and accommodating, answered all our questions helped us with our entrée selections and made suggestions . Put in our order for appetizers we had the meatballs, Carvolfiore - cauliflower was crispy & delish, Cesare Insalata - (dining companions ate it up) , Chop - (chopped salad, good but I expected the ingredients to be more chopped), and Carvoletto de Bruxelles - (brussels sprout salad - crispy & tasty). Then our server came and took our orders for entrées. I ordered a vegan pizza because I can't eat cheese and they allow me to add sausage to it. The pizza was delicious. The crust was crispy and chewy. The toppings were tasty. The dining area is family friendly. We had a large party with kids and it was fine. Unfortunately, because of the center it's located in there is not a lot of parking and the close spots are paid parking .

After an early movie at the River Oaks Theater next door, I waited till Happy Hour around 3 p.m. just to try their food. I stopped by for some ice cream next door at Marble Slab and perused a clothing boutique to pass the time. Since it was early on New Year's Eve, it was pretty empty except maybe a couple and a small group when I came in. I decided to sit at the bar area. I like that they had mocktail options and went with the Vesuvian Blush which has ginger, tea, lemon and mint. It was a nice and refreshing tea, and the ginger did not overpower the tea flavor. I ordered a few items from the happy hour menu. Happy hour is from 3 to 6 PM on weekdays. The Rucola salad was $10 and was a mountain high plate of arugula, spinach, pine nut, parmigiano, shaved fennel, and lemon citronette. It was nice, bright and peppery. It paired nicely with the margherita pizza I ordered, which was only $9.50. I added mushrooms as an extra topping. As another appetizer, I ordered the Cavolfiore ($10) which is crispy panko cauliflower, calabrian lemon aioli, parsley pesto, and Calabrian chile. It came with a half slice of grilled lemon. The cauliflower was tender and stayed crispy with the panko coating despite the aioli at the bottom. I'm also a fan of the Calabrian lemon aioli. This appetizer was delicious and I would order it again. You get a tiny Italian hard candy with your receipt. Happy hour was worth it! So much food at a reasonable price...especially for one person. I could have easily shared everything. I enjoyed the food and would return. I would like to try the Cacio E Pepe pizza and see how it compares to the one at Rosie Cannonball.

    DIAVOLA PIZZA

My group and I came here for dinner after watching a movie at the River Oaks Theatre because it was within walking distance. The interior was classy and upscale, and the service was friendly. We were personally recommended the Diavola pizza, and the Neo Margherita; both were sliced into 6 pieces, and we shared them amongst the 4 of us. I also tried a bit of the Spaghetti al Pomodoro Pasta from my friend. As for my overall thoughts... the Diavola was definitely worth the try! It's nothing I've ever tried before; it had a spicy taste from the salami, and the drizzle of honey, along with the walnuts, added a unique sweetness. The charred shallots were also a delicious addition. The Neo Margherita was good as well, but nothing special. Both pizzas had a thin crust. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Pizzana. Still, if I'm ever craving pizza, I'd rather visit the hundreds of other pizza parlors in the Houston area, since I didn't notice much difference in quality. Pricing is steep, too (granted, it's in River Oaks), so I don't have much incentive to return, either.

This was truly the first and likely the only ever time I have been so happy to have ordered in. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe and the Focaccia bread from Uber Eats and it was fifteen minutes until closing. I felt bad but I really did want to try this and I figured if they could not fulfill the order they would reject it but they accepted it and let me tell you: this felt like it was made in my own kitchen because it was so hot when it got to me, it was so perfectly placed into the bag nothing had shifted or spilled -- the pasta was perfectly in order like it was in a magazine. The bread was HOT and it had steam when I cut it open. This was not the end of the shift "hurry up and get it out the door" order, which I would have understood given the time I ordered it even, but it was beyond that. This was phenomenal, so please, whoever worked the shift or owns Pizzana; know you're doing a really great job and thank you so much!

Slice, slice, baby! Pizzana is a solid spot for happy hour drinks and bites! Happy hour runs Monday - Friday from 3-6pm and includes 50% off beer, wine by the glass, and margaritas, 50% off margarita pizza and select bites for a reduced rate. They also have a few cocktails that their members can enjoy for just $5. The membership is completely free and also includes some other sweet perks like a free monthly pizza when you spend at least $25. Not bad, not bad! I don't indulge in pizza very often being dairy-free, but was THRILLED to see that Pizzana has two vegan options on their menu - vegan margherita and vegan funghi. You better believe I'm a big mushroom girl too, win, win! The pizza was tasty with even mushroom coverage and a soft crust. It was a little on the softer side such that you need to fold the piece in order to eat it. The flavor was good but I felt like it needed a little something more, some basil or thyme perhaps. I ended up adding some dried red pepper flakes which helped a little. For their drinks, the fresh watermelon margarita was the stand out. It's hand-shaken with fresh juice and garnished with a tajin. A perfect summer drink. Finally, it's worth noting that their tipping system is a little different. When I closed my tab, I honestly didn't pay much attention and automatically selected the default 20% tip button and had the receipt texted to my phone. After the fact, I took a look at the receipt and noticed that the tip was calculated from the total before happy hour and member promotions were applied. Instead of being about $10 (for a 20% tip), it calculated the tip to be around $20. While this isn't the end of the world as the waitress who helped me was very nice and provided great service, this calculation is a little weird. Overall, a good find for happy hour! I'm now a member and will be back for sure.

We had our experience as take out and we were pretty happy with it. They don't really have an area to wait but luckily they weren't busy when I went so it wasn't a big deal. The pizza was delicious though, loved the parmigiano creama on top. The Panna Cotta was also wonderfully creamy and delicious. We enjoyed the caramel pretzel pieces but some were really big chunks so we crushed them a bit more. The main disappointment was the salad. While good it isn't worth $17 and I thought it would be more brussel sprout forward. Other than that we hope to try a pizza in person next time.

The food and wine were excellent and the ambiance is very sultry here. I enjoyed a Cacio E Pepperoni which is one of their recommendations and a 9oz glass of Cabernet vino (pictured) they do serve the wine in a normal glass FYI as they do in the photo for those that prefer theirs in a wine glass this may not be the place for you However, I did not ask the staff if they have actual wine glasses for serving. So wouldn't hurt to ask. I've also provided pictures of their menu. The staff was very welcoming and accommodated me when I decided to move my table from the bar to outside seating because it was such a lovely evening I wanted to enjoy it! They do have nice patio seating

Had Pizzana back when I lived in LA, was very solid. Houston's is just as good! I would call it a top 3 Neapolitan -style pizza spot, alongside Pizzaro and Bollo Wood Fired. Very nice inside, strong blue colors with a little yellow. Staff are friendly. Seeing the palm trees alongside West Gray from the window even makes it feel like I'm back in LA. They have a good variety of pizza. You GOTTA order the margherita, it's the classic and by which I use to compare spots; it was on point! 5/5 My gf ordered the Diavola, which even though it has spicy salami, wasn't quite spicy enough; overall the pizza was very sweet, given the honey and onions. 3/5. It's a little pricey compared to other spots given the location, the pizza's are around 13-14 inches (estimate), so it's right at the personal-size. I would recommend a 1:1 or 3:2 person-pizza ratio. Why did I knock out a star? Partly since they don't use a traditional oven (pizzas take a little longer than usual), but more importantly, the pizzas got 'stale' fairly quickly, so my last 1/3 of my pizza got really sad; cheese had solidified, and lost some of the chewiness of the wheat. The room temperature was fine, but honestly I've never experienced something like this before. Still on my quest for the #1 Neapolitan pizza spot in Houston, but Pizzana is a super welcome addition to the scene. Buon appetito!

This place has been a spot my wife craves, so we have been here a lot recently. First, they have a killer happy hour! They also take inKind, which is a great way to get rewards (message me for a referral code and we can both get inKind money!). We always get the artichoke, Caesar salad, and a pizza. We have sampled their pasta (tasty, but not huge portion) and just tried the focaccia the other day (loved it). It still is funny that this used to be one of the three Starbucks on the one corner that comedian Lewis Black called the End of the Universe.

I'd had this pasta in the past and remember it being spicy and yummy, but the dish I had on this visit was bland. There were also maybe less than 10 half thin slices of sausage in there and 3 slivers of onion, which seemed tiny for the $25 charge. The pesto was room temperature and was also bland ($15). The rigatoni bolognese was the only hot dish and had a little bit of flavor ($25). There was also no complimentary bread anymore which was a disappointment. TexQueno - nice cheese stick made with Venezuelan cheese, paired well with the cilantro sauce. We also tried the shrimp ceviche, which was solid, but nothing too special. For the main, we went with pastas, which were let downs. For the Cioppino Linguini, the seafood was overcooked, the pasta texture wasn't great, and the dish tasted pretty bland and lack the garlicky tomato flavor you'd expect from a traditional Cioppino Linguini. My food choices were the pizza Terzo Cerchio, and to take home, eggplant parmigiana and lasagna bolognese (see note below on take out choices). I would rate this pizza highly. The person making them, obviously not Italian, but well trained, resulting in a quality pizza. The Roman variant, pinsa, also available. Introduction of rice flour and soy flour with the wheat flour resulting in a more digestible dough. Many entree specials not seen elsewhere. Service, great. Ambiance, great. Based on my experience with the lasagna and the eggplant, I cannot recommend these as take out items that one would refrigerate and have a day or so later. Neither held up to second day consumption and were thrown out. These dishes should be considered for consumption at the restaurant, straight out of the kitchen while still hot. Melanzane parmigiana is not a dish from Parma. It is southern and a toss up on originating in Napoli, Calabria or Sicilia. The name likely derives from the Sicilian word parmiciana, referring to the wooden slats of shutters, mirroring the layered structure of the eggplant. But there are other theories.

I'm not often wowed by Italian food in restaurants but North Italia is amazing! I find that a lot…read moreof restaurants don't put enough seasoning. Here everything was hot and fresh and flavorful. First off, get the Zucca chips. I could literally eat a whole basketful. I need to figure out what slicer and oil they use because I can never get mine this thin and crispy. We then Arugula and Avocado salad, which was light and refreshing. Then onto the Cacio e Pepe Arancini. Cacio e Pepe is my favorite pasta, so I was a little disappointed they don't have it on the menu as a dish itself, but the arancini was delicious! For mains, my husband had the salmon. We ordered it medium and it came more well done, however, it was perfectly crispy on the outside and still moist in the center. Very tasty. I had the ricotta cavatelli, which might be the best pasta I've ever had. The shrimp were so plump and fresh. There was plenty of crab throughout. And the flavor had the perfect amount of salt and spice. My husband, who isn't a pasta person loved it too. It's a nice open space and service was friendly. We will definitely return to try more things.

As for what I had: Zucca chips: 3/5 what I received was much different from everyone else's pictures. My chips were much smaller and mostly pieces of chips. Maybe I got the bottom of the batch? The flavor was good, but because they were small and folded in on themselves, they held a lot of the oil. The oil did taste fresh though. Eggplant parm (small plate): 3/5 most cheese and very little eggplant. The flavor was good. My waitress told me it came with noodles but then no noodles came out. I know this place is popular and everyone seems to like it. I would try it one more time just to see if maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but overall I didn't think it was worth the money.

She told us the wait would be about 45 minutes, so I asked if my party could sit on the completely empty, shaded patio, order a bottle of wine and some olives, and then move inside once our table was ready. She told me that wasn't possible, which made no sense considering the patio was entirely empty. Instead, she suggested we sit on a bench. I'm not sure how she expected us to enjoy wine and appetizers while sitting on a bench. She then asked for my name--a very authentic Italian name--and spelled it completely incorrectly. When I politely corrected her, she responded with an attitude rather than simply fixing it. First impressions matter, and the hostess, who I believe was named Shelby, made us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived. Because of that experience alone, we decided we won't be returning.
