CACIO E PEPE PIZZA
Gina C.

Finally tried Pizzana! This spot has been on my list forever, especially since it's located right next to the River Oaks Theatre. Overall, the vibe didn't hit quite as expected to me. We were seated along the western wall which felt a little awkward at a table for 2 squished between two groups. They didn't have any draft beer which is sadly a must for me when having pizza!! Another thing I noticed was the wine wasn't served in traditional wine glasses which made it feel a little less polished than I expected (especially for the price). We ended up not ordering drinks and focusing on the pizza! The Cacio e Pepe was great for a few slices but the parmigiano creama ended up being way too overpowering for me. Though, we LOVED the diavola pizza and would definitely get this again! Overall, it doesn't seem like it'll turn into our pre-movie spot like I had hoped, but might just be personal preference! Service was lovely and kind.

The family loves pizza so of course we had to try this place. Staff was friendly and accommodating, answered all our questions helped us with our entrée selections and made suggestions . Put in our order for appetizers we had the meatballs, Carvolfiore - cauliflower was crispy & delish, Cesare Insalata - (dining companions ate it up) , Chop - (chopped salad, good but I expected the ingredients to be more chopped), and Carvoletto de Bruxelles - (brussels sprout salad - crispy & tasty). Then our server came and took our orders for entrées. I ordered a vegan pizza because I can't eat cheese and they allow me to add sausage to it. The pizza was delicious. The crust was crispy and chewy. The toppings were tasty. The dining area is family friendly. We had a large party with kids and it was fine. Unfortunately, because of the center it's located in there is not a lot of parking and the close spots are paid parking .

DIAVOLA PIZZA

My group and I came here for dinner after watching a movie at the River Oaks Theatre because it was within walking distance. The interior was classy and upscale, and the service was friendly. We were personally recommended the Diavola pizza, and the Neo Margherita; both were sliced into 6 pieces, and we shared them amongst the 4 of us. I also tried a bit of the Spaghetti al Pomodoro Pasta from my friend. As for my overall thoughts... the Diavola was definitely worth the try! It's nothing I've ever tried before; it had a spicy taste from the salami, and the drizzle of honey, along with the walnuts, added a unique sweetness. The charred shallots were also a delicious addition. The Neo Margherita was good as well, but nothing special. Both pizzas had a thin crust. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Pizzana. Still, if I'm ever craving pizza, I'd rather visit the hundreds of other pizza parlors in the Houston area, since I didn't notice much difference in quality. Pricing is steep, too (granted, it's in River Oaks), so I don't have much incentive to return, either.

Margherita pasta was a highlight- light and so tasty. Cabernet Sauvignon 10/10 They have a pretty good rewards system!

We had our experience as take out and we were pretty happy with it. They don't really have an area to wait but luckily they weren't busy when I went so it wasn't a big deal. The pizza was delicious though, loved the parmigiano creama on top. The Panna Cotta was also wonderfully creamy and delicious. We enjoyed the caramel pretzel pieces but some were really big chunks so we crushed them a bit more. The main disappointment was the salad. While good it isn't worth $17 and I thought it would be more brussel sprout forward. Other than that we hope to try a pizza in person next time.

The food and wine were excellent and the ambiance is very sultry here. I enjoyed a Cacio E Pepperoni which is one of their recommendations and a 9oz glass of Cabernet vino (pictured) they do serve the wine in a normal glass FYI as they do in the photo for those that prefer theirs in a wine glass this may not be the place for you However, I did not ask the staff if they have actual wine glasses for serving. So wouldn't hurt to ask. I've also provided pictures of their menu. The staff was very welcoming and accommodated me when I decided to move my table from the bar to outside seating because it was such a lovely evening I wanted to enjoy it! They do have nice patio seating

Slice, slice, baby! Pizzana is a solid spot for happy hour drinks and bites! Happy hour runs Monday - Friday from 3-6pm and includes 50% off beer, wine by the glass, and margaritas, 50% off margarita pizza and select bites for a reduced rate. They also have a few cocktails that their members can enjoy for just $5. The membership is completely free and also includes some other sweet perks like a free monthly pizza when you spend at least $25. Not bad, not bad! I don't indulge in pizza very often being dairy-free, but was THRILLED to see that Pizzana has two vegan options on their menu - vegan margherita and vegan funghi. You better believe I'm a big mushroom girl too, win, win! The pizza was tasty with even mushroom coverage and a soft crust. It was a little on the softer side such that you need to fold the piece in order to eat it. The flavor was good but I felt like it needed a little something more, some basil or thyme perhaps. I ended up adding some dried red pepper flakes which helped a little. For their drinks, the fresh watermelon margarita was the stand out. It's hand-shaken with fresh juice and garnished with a tajin. A perfect summer drink. Finally, it's worth noting that their tipping system is a little different. When I closed my tab, I honestly didn't pay much attention and automatically selected the default 20% tip button and had the receipt texted to my phone. After the fact, I took a look at the receipt and noticed that the tip was calculated from the total before happy hour and member promotions were applied. Instead of being about $10 (for a 20% tip), it calculated the tip to be around $20. While this isn't the end of the world as the waitress who helped me was very nice and provided great service, this calculation is a little weird. Overall, a good find for happy hour! I'm now a member and will be back for sure.

This place has been a spot my wife craves, so we have been here a lot recently. First, they have a killer happy hour! They also take inKind, which is a great way to get rewards (message me for a referral code and we can both get inKind money!). We always get the artichoke, Caesar salad, and a pizza. We have sampled their pasta (tasty, but not huge portion) and just tried the focaccia the other day (loved it). It still is funny that this used to be one of the three Starbucks on the one corner that comedian Lewis Black called the End of the Universe.

Had Pizzana back when I lived in LA, was very solid. Houston's is just as good! I would call it a top 3 Neapolitan -style pizza spot, alongside Pizzaro and Bollo Wood Fired. Very nice inside, strong blue colors with a little yellow. Staff are friendly. Seeing the palm trees alongside West Gray from the window even makes it feel like I'm back in LA. They have a good variety of pizza. You GOTTA order the margherita, it's the classic and by which I use to compare spots; it was on point! 5/5 My gf ordered the Diavola, which even though it has spicy salami, wasn't quite spicy enough; overall the pizza was very sweet, given the honey and onions. 3/5. It's a little pricey compared to other spots given the location, the pizza's are around 13-14 inches (estimate), so it's right at the personal-size. I would recommend a 1:1 or 3:2 person-pizza ratio. Why did I knock out a star? Partly since they don't use a traditional oven (pizzas take a little longer than usual), but more importantly, the pizzas got 'stale' fairly quickly, so my last 1/3 of my pizza got really sad; cheese had solidified, and lost some of the chewiness of the wheat. The room temperature was fine, but honestly I've never experienced something like this before. Still on my quest for the #1 Neapolitan pizza spot in Houston, but Pizzana is a super welcome addition to the scene. Buon appetito!

Pizzana is a fairly new pizza place for the Houston area. It opened a little more than a year ago and we were excited to try this California based pizza place for their happy hour. Their happy hour menu is served from 3-6 PM Monday - Friday and offers 50% off beer and wine by the glass and other specialty priced pizza and food. Ambiance: the inside of the restaurant is very clean and modern and the tall glass windows let a lot of natural light in during happy hour. The bar area has seats for guests and TVs which were playing some sports channels. Service: service was very good here. We got to Pizzana at 5 PM and there were 4 other tables seated. Our server was attentive and quick with our order. Food and Drink: we ordered a glass of wine and a Peroni beer to take advantage of happy hour pricing. Their wine by the glass is pretty good and at 50% off it's a steal. We were able to order multiple rounds of drinks and ordered more wine but the glass and a margarita. They have a twist on the standard margarita and it is described as a Mediterranean margarita. The margarita was good and had a little different flavor than a Mexican margarita. We ordered the caprese di bufala as an appetizer to start ( not on the happy hour menu). It was tasty and vibrant and you could tell the tomato and mozzarella di bufala were fresh. We ordered two pizzas which were on the happy hour menu. We ordered the pepperoni pizza ($15 at happy hour) and the margherita pizza ($9.50 at happy hour). Both pizzas came out hot from the oven and the crisp on the crust was nice. The pepperonis on the pizza were little cups that curled up due to the cooking and that made for a delicious pepperoni pizza. The margherita pizza was also delicious and the basil on the pizza was also very fresh. If you like thinner crust pizza, this is a great place to try. Parking: it is mostly paid parking in the area Pizzana is located. There are signs with QR codes that you can use to pay. We paid $3 for 2 hours of parking so nothing crazy. Just remember to pay for parking of you do park in one of the river oaks lots near the restaurant. I have seen people get tickets around there. Overall Pizzana was a great experience for happy hour and I would recommend trying this place out for their pizzas. We want to come back and try the short rib pizza which we heard was amazing. I would put Pizzana up on the list of good pizza places in Houston. It can be a little pricier if you don't go for happy hour so keep that in mind. But give this place a try and see where it ranks on your Houston pizza list.

Fantastic Cheese Pizza togo !!!

This place makes some awesome pizzas, pastas and desserts. I picked up a Cheese Pizza last night. Very fresh, very delicious, very good quality, nicely charred crust, good cheese ratio with taste to go with it and a very good tomato based sauce in one pizza. The pizza was juicy and seasoned without being too greasy. It had that flimsy, soggy feel in each slice, but some crispiness at the same time too. Very friendly and efficient service. Very few places make a simple pizzeria pizza down here and this place is thankfully one that can. The Bolognese and Vodka Pastas are very delicious entrees here as well from my previous takeout experiences with them.

Pizzana has a nice sit-down vibe and a menu with a lot of fun options. I thought the food was good, and I enjoyed the experience overall, but nothing really stood out enough to make me want to go back right away. It's one of those places I'm glad I tried, but I'm not sure it left a strong enough impression to pull me in again

The food came out within 20 minutes of ordering but was disappointing. I ordered the creste de gallo (full portion), pesto (half portion), and rigatoni bolognese (full portion) to share. The portions looked pretty similar despite the price difference. The Creste de gallo was cold and had no flavor. I'd had this pasta in the past and remember it being spicy and yummy, but the dish I had on this visit was bland. There were also maybe less than 10 half thin slices of sausage in there and 3 slivers of onion, which seemed tiny for the $25 charge. The pesto was room temperature and was also bland ($15). The rigatoni bolognese was the only hot dish and had a little bit of flavor ($25). There was also no complimentary bread anymore which was a disappointment. They're closing soon, so that may be why the food was subpar. The interior was clean and the employees were nice enough. Parking was along the street.

We're glad we did, but if the place was going to remain open, I don't think we'd make another trip back. This Italian restaurant has been off Westheimer for decades and has had a stellar reputation for food and service. We'd called ahead to place a reservation but were told that it's first-come-first-serve. We were assured that they'd be slow and it would be easy to sit a big group (8-10) on a Wednesday night, but there was a line out the door, and, even once you ordered, a decent wait before a table came available to sit at. Thankfully, the kitchen was running behind, so there was plenty of time for people to clear out. My wife had the primavera aglio olio with shrimp added. She devoured the entire thing. I went for the canestra alla fungi with chicken. Again, a delicious dish. The odd thing is, they both were lacking a bit of salt that would have brought out a lot more flavor. I managed to get that salt from the parmesan cheese, but that shouldn't have been necessary given this place's reputation. They have a series of daily specials, but unfortunately, all the good stuff was on other days of the week, I wasn't feeling the idea of eggplant for dinner, and I'm always wary of a menu that doesn't list prices.

My food choices were the pizza Terzo Cerchio, and to take home, eggplant parmigiana and lasagna bolognese (see note below on take out choices). I would rate this pizza highly. The person making them, obviously not Italian, but well trained, resulting in a quality pizza. The Roman variant, pinsa, also available. Introduction of rice flour and soy flour with the wheat flour resulting in a more digestible dough. Many entree specials not seen elsewhere. Service, great. Ambiance, great. Based on my experience with the lasagna and the eggplant, I cannot recommend these as take out items that one would refrigerate and have a day or so later. Neither held up to second day consumption and were thrown out. These dishes should be considered for consumption at the restaurant, straight out of the kitchen while still hot. Melanzane parmigiana is not a dish from Parma. It is southern and a toss up on originating in Napoli, Calabria or Sicilia. The name likely derives from the Sicilian word parmiciana, referring to the wooden slats of shutters, mirroring the layered structure of the eggplant. But there are other theories.

Although Davanti comes across as casual, there is a certain refinement that even some higher-end Italian places lack -- for instance, recommending how to eat a particular pasta dish or swapping out silverware without being asked. Food-wise, it was quite good. My husband described it as unique. We all loved the octopus appetizer. The Caesar, however, was bland -- skip it. They had a lasagna special that was cheesy, creamy, and smooth. It would be easy for such a decadent pasta dish to feel overwrought, but it was delightfully rich without crossing that line. My mother-in-law ordered a pasta with shrimp that was one note and forgettable. We all enjoyed the prosciutto pizza, though it wasn't the best I've ever had -- but that's likely because I prefer a tangier sauce, and this one leans more subtle.
