After an early movie at the River Oaks Theater next door, I waited till Happy Hour around 3 p.m. just to try their food. I stopped by for some ice cream next door at Marble Slab and perused a clothing boutique to pass the time. Since it was early on New Year's Eve, it was pretty empty except maybe a couple and a small group when I came in. I decided to sit at the bar area. I like that they had mocktail options and went with the Vesuvian Blush which has ginger, tea, lemon and mint. It was a nice and refreshing tea, and the ginger did not overpower the tea flavor. I ordered a few items from the happy hour menu. Happy hour is from 3 to 6 PM on weekdays. The Rucola salad was $10 and was a mountain high plate of arugula, spinach, pine nut, parmigiano, shaved fennel, and lemon citronette. It was nice, bright and peppery. It paired nicely with the margherita pizza I ordered, which was only $9.50. I added mushrooms as an extra topping. As another appetizer, I ordered the Cavolfiore ($10) which is crispy panko cauliflower, calabrian lemon aioli, parsley pesto, and Calabrian chile. It came with a half slice of grilled lemon. The cauliflower was tender and stayed crispy with the panko coating despite the aioli at the bottom. I'm also a fan of the Calabrian lemon aioli. This appetizer was delicious and I would order it again. You get a tiny Italian hard candy with your receipt. Happy hour was worth it! So much food at a reasonable price...especially for one person. Finally tried Pizzana! This spot has been on my list forever, especially since it's located right next to the River Oaks Theatre. Overall, the vibe didn't hit quite as expected to me. We were seated along the western wall which felt a little awkward at a table for 2 squished between two groups. They didn't have any draft beer which is sadly a must for me when having pizza!! Another thing I noticed was the wine wasn't served in traditional wine glasses which made it feel a little less polished than I expected (especially for the price). We ended up not ordering drinks and focusing on the pizza! The Cacio e Pepe was great for a few slices but the parmigiano creama ended up being way too overpowering for me. My group and I came here for dinner after watching a movie at the River Oaks Theatre because it was within walking distance. The interior was classy and upscale, and the service was friendly. We were personally recommended the Diavola pizza, and the Neo Margherita; both were sliced into 6 pieces, and we shared them amongst the 4 of us. I also tried a bit of the Spaghetti al Pomodoro Pasta from my friend. As for my overall thoughts... the Diavola was definitely worth the try! It's nothing I've ever tried before; it had a spicy taste from the salami, and the drizzle of honey, along with the walnuts, added a unique sweetness. The charred shallots were also a delicious addition. The Neo Margherita was good as well, but nothing special. Both pizzas had a thin crust. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Pizzana. Still, if I'm ever craving pizza, I'd rather visit the hundreds of other pizza parlors in the Houston area, since I didn't notice much difference in quality. We had our experience as take out and we were pretty happy with it. They don't really have an area to wait but luckily they weren't busy when I went so it wasn't a big deal. The pizza was delicious though, loved the parmigiano creama on top. The Panna Cotta was also wonderfully creamy and delicious. We enjoyed the caramel pretzel pieces but some were really big chunks so we crushed them a bit more. The main disappointment was the salad. The membership is completely free and also includes some other sweet perks like a free monthly pizza when you spend at least $25. Not bad, not bad! I don't indulge in pizza very often being dairy-free, but was THRILLED to see that Pizzana has two vegan options on their menu - vegan margherita and vegan funghi. You better believe I'm a big mushroom girl too, win, win! The pizza was tasty with even mushroom coverage and a soft crust. It was a little on the softer side such that you need to fold the piece in order to eat it. The flavor was good but I felt like it needed a little something more, some basil or thyme perhaps. I ended up adding some dried red pepper flakes which helped a little. For their drinks, the fresh watermelon margarita was the stand out. It's hand-shaken with fresh juice and garnished with a tajin. A perfect summer drink. Finally, it's worth noting that their tipping system is a little different. When I closed my tab, I honestly didn't pay much attention and automatically selected the default 20% tip button and had the receipt texted to my phone. After the fact, I took a look at the receipt and noticed that the tip was calculated from the total before happy hour and member promotions were applied. Instead of being about $10 (for a 20% tip), it calculated the tip to be around $20. While this isn't the end of the world as the waitress who helped me was very nice and provided great service, this calculation is a little weird. Overall, a good find for happy hour! This place has been a spot my wife craves, so we have been here a lot recently. First, they have a killer happy hour! Had Pizzana back when I lived in LA, was very solid. Houston's is just as good! I would call it a top 3 Neapolitan -style pizza spot, alongside Pizzaro and Bollo Wood Fired. It's a little pricey compared to other spots given the location, the pizza's are around 13-14 inches (estimate), so it's right at the personal-size. I would recommend a 1:1 or 3:2 person-pizza ratio. Why did I knock out a star? Partly since they don't use a traditional oven (pizzas take a little longer than usual), but more importantly, the pizzas got 'stale' fairly quickly, so my last 1/3 of my pizza got really sad; cheese had solidified, and lost some of the chewiness of the wheat. The room temperature was fine, but honestly I've never experienced something like this before. Pizzana is a fairly new pizza place for the Houston area. It opened a little more than a year ago and we were excited to try this California based pizza place for their happy hour. Their happy hour menu is served from 3-6 PM Monday - Friday and offers 50% off beer and wine by the glass and other specialty priced pizza and food. Ambiance: the inside of the restaurant is very clean and modern and the tall glass windows let a lot of natural light in during happy hour. The bar area has seats for guests and TVs which were playing some sports channels. Service: service was very good here. We got to Pizzana at 5 PM and there were 4 other tables seated. Our server was attentive and quick with our order. Food and Drink: we ordered a glass of wine and a Peroni beer to take advantage of happy hour pricing. Their wine by the glass is pretty good and at 50% off it's a steal. We were able to order multiple rounds of drinks and ordered more wine but the glass and a margarita. They have a twist on the standard margarita and it is described as a Mediterranean margarita. The margarita was good and had a little different flavor than a Mexican margarita. We ordered the caprese di bufala as an appetizer to start ( not on the happy hour menu). It was tasty and vibrant and you could tell the tomato and mozzarella di bufala were fresh. We ordered two pizzas which were on the happy hour menu. We ordered the pepperoni pizza ($15 at happy hour) and the margherita pizza ($9.50 at happy hour). Both pizzas came out hot from the oven and the crisp on the crust was nice. The pepperonis on the pizza were little cups that curled up due to the cooking and that made for a delicious pepperoni pizza. The margherita pizza was also delicious and the basil on the pizza was also very fresh. If you like thinner crust pizza, this is a great place to try. Parking: it is mostly paid parking in the area Pizzana is located. There are signs with QR codes that you can use to pay. We paid $3 for 2 hours of parking so nothing crazy. Just remember to pay for parking of you do park in one of the river oaks lots near the restaurant. I have seen people get tickets around there. Overall Pizzana was a great experience for happy hour and I would recommend trying this place out for their pizzas. We want to come back and try the short rib pizza which we heard was amazing. I would put Pizzana up on the list of good pizza places in Houston. It can be a little pricier if you don't go for happy hour so keep that in mind. Very fresh, very delicious, very good quality, nicely charred crust, good cheese ratio with taste to go with it and a very good tomato based sauce in one pizza. The pizza was juicy and seasoned without being too greasy. It had that flimsy, soggy feel in each slice, but some crispiness at the same time too. Very friendly and efficient service. Very few places make a simple pizzeria pizza down here and this place is thankfully one that can. I've been seeing this place all over TikTok/Instagram and so I finally had the chance to try it out. My friend & I came on a Saturday night and though it was a bit busy, we were able to get seated pretty quickly. The vibes inside were so cute. We ordered the limoncello martini, which was really good. Then for our meal, we ordered the Caprese di Bufula and the Cacio E Pepe pizza (with a side of chicken, which they do not put onto the pizza but will bring it as a side). Omg, all of it was so good. There is a free garage across the street or lot parking for $2.50 per 2 hours. We tried the fried cauliflower and meatball apps. They were both excellent. The cauliflower was perfectly crispy and they were generous with the sauce. There were 3 meatballs in a pond of marinara sauce and 3 well-toasted slices of bread. We were filling up before the pizza even arrived. We opted for the cacio e pepe, which was fantastic. I really liked the crust and toppings. Service is friendly and competent. Parking is paid in the lot but not overly priced. We paid $2.50 for 2 hours. They have a wonderful menu with lots of options for everyone of any dietary restriction. Lots of vegetarian options and even 2 vegan pizzas. We started with the Amalfi Glow and the Scanti Sunset. Both were not overly sweet. Then for dinner we ordered the Creste de Gallo Alla Vodka and Margarita Pizza. The pasta was OUTSTANDING. It had the perfect al dente bite and the sauce was super flavorful with just the right amount of spice. We would come back just for the pasta! The pizza also was very tasty, fresh, and classic. The restaurant is located in an expensive neighborhood so it makes sense for them to need to keep up with the lease. Plus I'm sure they use fresh ingredients which can also be expensive. I like to start with the good, so now I'll give areas of opportunity: 1.) The restaurant has something against chicken on pizza - when we asked if the kitchen could make an accommodation for my Dad's dietary restriction (he can't have red meat due to arthritis), the waiter told us it was strictly prohibited. It would be good if there could be more consideration for health challenges. The spinach pizza we settled for was nice, but not as filling - especially for a man who likes meat & tries to get his proteins. 2.) The staff isn't very warm and welcoming. They are polite enough, but just bare minimum. Their attitude is pretty lackadaisical, from the reception we received at the door to our actual waiter. Seems like something management could quickly address for better customer experience. All-in-all I'd probably go again one day. So I'd like to think I know a thing or two about a good pie. Quality pizza has been very hard for me to find down here in Houston, unfortunately. Although the food in this city is overall pretty good, the pizza game is awful. Pizzana is pretty good though. As far as pizza in Houston is concerned, this spot is probably one of the better options. I'd give it a shot if you're in the area. I stopped by on Sunday with a reservation that I made on Resy earlier on the same day. This is the third time I have visited and the experience this time was even better as I am a meat eater and the last two times I visited I went with vegetarians. I mention that only because I think that the plates are all great for sharing as the portions are pretty large. We had the Caesar salad which was very good. It was not overdressed, was fresh crisp and had these little fried capers that make it just delicious. We had the meatballs which were very tasty. We shared the bolognaise and the Vodka pizza on the recommendation of the waiter. The pizza was a tad spicier than I would have expected, but the pizza was delicious. The crust is what it is all about on this pizza. The pasta was good and my only complaint about is that there were a couple of noodles that were very undercooked (not al dente - just kind of hard). I pushed those noodles to the side and we ate the rest. Service was good and we were checked on adequately. Parmesan and ranch (pretty sure it was homemade) was available upon request. We had wine and the bourbon smash cocktail which was delicious. Super light and refreshing for a bourbon drink. At 5 p.m. the restaurant was not busy, but started to pick up as the evening wore on. It is a casual vibe. On this visit I also signed up for their Pizzana Club. Not sure exactly how that works, but you can accumulate points for rewards, make reservations and order online.
