Finally got the chance to visit Z on 23 rooftop. I remember when Yelp had a elite event here that I did not get on a guest list for ever since then this place has been on my bookmark and finally I get to check it off spontaneously I visit here on a Saturday evening after having dinner on the first floor in the hotel at Zutro's. The temperature had dropped and it was pretty chilled. Some of the heaters were out of order so we collected our drinks and went downstairs on the second floor and its quiet lounge beautiful sight seating is very limited and it had a nice crowd. read more

Service and atmosphere: Unfortunately, we received very bad and unprofessional service. The bartender was unfriendly and couldn't care less for providing good customer service. He couldn't advise us on the cocktails selection when we asked for recommendations. He told us to scan QR code. Once we scanned the QR code and selected two different cocktails the bartender made both of them the same way. Money and tip well spent, NOT! Pricing: $$$ overpriced cocktails. Went here when I was looking for a nearby rooftop bar! I will say the website and online was a little misleading because the happy hour is only for the inside part, and not for the outdoor rooftop. The drinks were a bit pricey due to the fact you are mainly paying for the view and the ambiance. They do have a lot of casual seating areas which I appreciated. I went here around 5pm on a Monday and you ordered at the outdoor bar and then could sit anywhere you want. If you are in the area and looking for a rooftop with good views, I would certainly go. I do think there are other better rooftops around though so maybe check those out if you want a little more bang for your buck. read more

We went early evening on a Friday, which is the perfect time because it wasn't too busy. This place was recommended to me so I went to check it out. It's really hotel with a roof top bar with only paid seating. I wanted to just go check it out and have one drink but had to stand in line at the bar forever to get a drink as the bartenders were super slow and kept serving others before me. Then there were quite a bit of people up there that did not pay for a seat so it was a little bit crowded. The best part was the views and that's the draw to this place. I love the city at night. Now if you don't mind being in 50 peoples IG and Tic Toc post because it's so crowded and you like the view then by all means you can try this place. For me there are other places that are more comfortable and service is better that I would go to for a night view of the city. read more

The rooftop wasn't as spectacular as some of the photos made it seem. This could be that Houston itself really doesn't have much a skyline. But, they didn't have some drinks available like an espresso martini. If you want a table / have a bigger group, this may not be the best place to take them. In order to have a table, you needed to fulfill a 200$ minimum. Drinks were decently priced but it didn't taste like anything beyond just sweet. read more

Most overrated rooftop "bar" i've ever had the misfortune to step into website sold a dream. reality? a f***ing nightmare. dress code: we came in polished, thinking this was "elevated" instead it was asses and boobs on display like a cheap club. overdressed, overhyped, over it. policies: a $35 cake fee?? get the hell out of here. we walked. Our tab was already $200 but they lost another $300. drinks: cocktails and whiskey in goddamn plastic cups. plastic. at a so-called rooftop lounge. and no bitters, so forget about an Old Fashioned. what kind of amateur bar doesn't stock bitters? embarrassing. food: bland, and stupid expensive. atmosphere: chipped, tired, dilapidated. music: pure torture. sounded like someone's cousin's spotify playlist set to shuffle. valet: $20 for the privilege of parking and DID NOT get our car key back!!! The view from the rooftop is absolutely beautiful! I went to a happy hour event at this location and cannot recommend it enough. You need to get there early if you want to have a place to sit. There are several sitting areas but it's a busy place, as it should be! The drinks were upscale and tasty. Be prepared to spend about $15 per drink. I tasted the meatballs and the flatbread and they were both yummy. I'm not sure how parking is as I walked from my building so I would check that out beforehand. 10/10 recommend. read more

"Freddy" if that's even is his name, a tall dark skin individual with dreads not only disrespect my friends and I but refused to serve us when we went up for last call. Nice rooftop bar on top floor of hotel. There's a mix of high top tables & couch seating. The drink menu isn't extensive, but I think there are options for people who like sweet & fruity as well as those that prefer something that packs more of a punch. It would nice to have drink ingredients/descriptions included on the menu. Drinks were a bit pricey, but I think that is standard for hotel bars. On the Saturday afternoon that I was there, only saw one waitress. She was doing her best, but definitely could've used some help. The bartender was not the most friendly so I only had one cocktail. Amazing Drinks and Awesome staff. I went on a Thursday and was told live music is on the way in the month of may. I cant wait. The night i went there were 3 underage girls trying to get drinks with fake IDs they were politely asked to leave and refused to leave. And the manager ended up coming to speak to them and asked them to leave after trying to give fake IDs. They were not happy but I'm glad this establishment is a 21 and up and they are responsible. Absolutely what I was looking for. Highrise view and smooth crowd. Def gonna id so don't try to come if you not old enough. They have an inside room just in case it's too hot outside. This was my first rooftop bar experience. The bar is located on top of a hotel and is a short walk from the Metro rail if you want to avoid parking. There are no reservations, you just show up. ATMOSPHERE: The views are great. The bar is high up enough to where you can see above some buildings, but still have skyscrapers towering around you. Because there are no reservations or anything, the bar was packed. We found no seating (limited to begin with) but it was fine to stand and enjoy the view. DRINKS: We got a Tropical Paradise. It tasted okay, really strong pineapple and orange juice flavor profile. I didn't think the drink was anything too special. SERVICE: The bartenders were nice and definitely working as hard and fast as they could. However, with so many people, it took some time for us to make it to the front of the bar and order. In addition, I didn't really like that some people were shoving to get to the front. I wish there was a more organized way to order. PRICE/VALUE: The cocktail was small in my opinion for $14. EXPENSIVE, but best views of the city. And plan to WAIT for drinks. Always love checking out this spot to have a great view of the city. You look right into the heart of downtown from 23 floors up. No cover to get in, so this place gets busy. Plan to stand inline 15-30 minutes of a drink and plan to shell out some cash. 2 double vodka (Tito's) sodas but us back about $60. But, if you're new to town or haven't been I recommend it just because it's something different the city has to offer. read more

Ambiance- The music they played was amazing! Great mix of R&B that could get people up and dancing. There isn't a lot of space for sitting or standing for that matter. I have been to Z on 23 Rooftop several times over the years. Not surprising because I'm a big fan of rooftops. And there aren't a lot of them in Houston. Some spots that advertise themselves as rooftops are on the second or third floor of a building. That's not a rooftop. Z on 23 is on the top floor of a skyscraper hotel downtown. And because of that, you have some spectacular scenic views of downtown Houston. Beyond the views, Z on 23 has a lot of lounge seating which creates a comfortable environment when the weather's nice. They have a nice list of craft cocktails, along with a full bar, though the drinks are a little overpriced. It's worth it though. The ambiance is great. It's a romantic spot. And somewhere where you see people take pics on the regular. read more

Came here with a good buddy of mine on July 4th for some drinks and to catch the fireworks that evening. If we weren't there on July 4th, it probably woulda been great. It's a smaller rooftop bar that's fairly intimate but was super crowded that night, for obvious reasons. The rooftop itself is pretty good though. The bar has a good selection of drinks and the view is great from up there. Will probably be back, but not for a holiday like July 4th. Otherwise I liked it quite a lot. read more

Do yourself a favor and go EARLY. Very few tables. Small space in general. Standing room felt awkward. Bartenders seemed annoyed and not too personable.
