Fellas, if you want to impress a lady, dinner at Brenner's is an awesome place to go. Brenner's is an upscale steakhouse located on the bayou with as picturesque of a view as you're going to get in Houston. I've been on a date there once and they have open windows throughout the restaurant so you can see the bayou and the hills of grass. Attached to the restaurant is a trendy bar called Blue. I went to Blue for a networking event and they have happy hour from 5-7 PM. Their signature cocktails are $7 and beer is cheaper. I had several cocktails including a Southern Tea (Firefly vodka, tea, etc.) and a Pear Martini. There is a bar, several tables, and lounge seats. If you're in the sitting area, there are waitresses to take your order or there are some seats at the bar. They also have a good amount of food on the happy hour consisting of apps, skewers, and oyster shooters for the most part. I went with the Mongolian beef skewers and the parmesan fries. The skewers were flavorful, you get three of them, but they were relatively small. On the other hand, the portion size for the parmesan fries was generous so two items off the happy hour menu was more than enough for me. This is an expensive spot so you're getting a great deal during happy hour. Our waitress, Raven, was awesome. She's been working at Blue for 6 months but it seemed like she had been working there for years. She checked up on us frequently and always when our drinks were running on empty. We had good conversation with her, she's really friendly. When we moved to a table, she still stopped by to check up on us. Once the sun goes down, blue lights come on and it now becomes clear why it's called Blue. Parking is valet only ($5) but there's some limited parking on the streets right outside of the restaurant. The only downside minus valet? Blue is outside. I was coming straight from work so I was wearing dress clothes and it's June which means I was definitely sweating. My girlfriends and I are always looking for new places for happy hour and this is one of the better happy hours in Houston! Luckily, it was pretty empty on a Monday evening. Happy hour is served only at the bar inside or the patio outside of the restaurant. With Houston humidity and mosquitos, your best bet is to sit inside. Duck fat popcorn - as if popcorn wasn't good already. When you add duck fat, bacon!!, and cheese to it, I'll never look at regular popcorn the same way. Pretty addicting and without supervision you could finish the entire bowl yourself. Lobster and shrimp rolls - just the right amount of mayo and the roll itself was fluffy and buttery. Tastes similar to mainely sandwiches except here had tomato and chives and not as much mayo. However, I was longing for a little bit more lobster and shrimp for the price ($9 for 3 rolls). Oyster shooters (ponzu) - do NOT order this flavor/drink/concoction. I got vinegar-y, sour shot than ponzu. Bleh! It's disgusting and even the bartender agreed. My girlfriends had margarita and Bloody Mary with no complaints. Also, just a plain ol fried oyster on top. Texas quail appetizer (on the dinner menu) - I normally don't like ordering quail because it's too much work to pick off the meat. Nope, not here. The work is done for you AND it's wrapped in bacon. Hints of sweet, savory and spicy, I couldn't even tell that it was quail. The bartender (Joaquin?) was very attentive and made some really yummy drinks. If you search Happy Hour and your destination is Houston, TX the first result is BLUE @ Brenner's. There is a reason why it is the first result. Because it's simply the best Happy Hour in town. So much that I went twice in one week and 3 weeks in a row. As the Houston weather gets a bit cooler this patio paradise will be more and more crowded, so come on over before it's too packed. There are plenty of tables for you and your friends to grab a bite or drink after a long day at work. At this point I've sampled every single drink and food item on their happy hour menu. At 5 bucks an item from 5-7 pm every weekday, you can't beat the price or the atmosphere. As far as the drinks go they offer: St. Tropez : Absolut Citron Vodka, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Triple Sec and Tonic. Pear Martini : Pear Infused Vodka, Fresh Lemon Juice and St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur. Fresh Berry Martini : Stoli Blueberry Vodka, Lime Juice, splash of Chambord garnished with fresh berries. Bluecoat Cocktail : Bluecoat Gin, Hibiscus Syrup and Soda. Brenner's Signature Margarita : Pepe Zevado Silver, Cointreau and Fresh Sour Mix. Paloma : Sauza Conmemorativo, Orange Liqueur, Fresh Grapefruit Juice with a Salted Rim. Southern Peach Tea : Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, Peach Schnapps and Fresh Lemonade. Coconut Creame Pie : Whipped Cream Vodka, Malibu and Lemon juice. My favorites were the Southern Peach Tea, refreshing but packs a slight punch. I also enjoyed the St. Tropez which tasted like lychee to me. And the classic margarita won't steer you wrong. As far as food goes they offer: House Made Pretzels : With a trio of dipping sauces. Sliders : Angus beef sliders with crispy red onion strings, chipotle aioli and smoked cheddar cheese. Veal & Ricotta Meatballs : Meatballs with spicy marinara and shaved parmesan. Chicken Satays : Grilled chicken marinated in red thai curry and peanut coconut sauce. Hand Cut Truffle Fries : Served with black truffle aioli. Ice Cream Sandwich Trio As far as the small bites go the best has to be the Chicken Satay, which is by far the most tender in town, the dipping sauce could be a bit sweeter, the sliders are also solid, but the reason I keep coming back to BLUE for happy hour is their Ice Cream Sandwich Trio. Imagine a large sized macaroon, but instead of the jam/jelly in the middle, replace that with ice cream, vanilla, chocolate, and I think strawberry? The cookies are room temperature and soft, while the ice cream is the perfect amount of frozen with a small bit of chocolate drizzle. By far my favorite dessert in all of Houston currently. Add me to the numerous fans of Blue At Brenner's. Like everyone has said, the scenery and ambiance are absolutely beautiful. Blue At Brenner's + 70 degree weather = perfection. This place would be great for a first date, a girls' night out, or a place to relax and have a couple of drinks. The happy hour prices are great ($5 cocktails & martinis, $6 wine, and $5 small plates), and the service is on point. When my friend and I first got there, we didn't have anyone attend to us, but shortly after making eye contact with the waitress, she came over, nicely welcomed us, and took our drink orders. I ordered the Pear Martini (Yelpers' recommendation), and my friend ordered the Southern Peach Tea. Both were delicious! We ended up ordering two drinks each. I thought the martini would be too strong since most martinis are overwhelming for me, but this one was perfect. Like most people said, it definitely doesn't taste like pear though. The Southern Peach Tea wasn't too strong either. For food, we ordered the House Made Pretzels, Sliders, Hand Cut Truffle Fries, and Ice Cream Trio (for dessert). The best dish was the Hand Cut Truffle Fries. They look simple, but the fries tasted heavenly, and the sauce they came with was also mouth watering. My 2nd favorite would be the pretzels. They were not too salted, firm but easy to tear apart, and paired perfectly with the 3 dipping sauces. The sliders were great as well, but they weren't anything too special. I think the most disappointing dish was the Ice Cream Trio. The macaroons were especially chewy, and there wasn't very much ice cream. My favorite ice cream of the three was the chocolate since it was rich and dark. Interestingly enough, we got the dessert for $5 instead of $9, so we were definitely happy about that. Absolutely loved this place for happy hour! Not only is it beautiful but they have an amazing happy hour menu. Drinks and appetizers are only $5! How great is that! The bar downstairs is absolutely amazing, it's an outdoor patio and I loved the decor, the blue lights and most of all the great set up. Happy hours runs from 5pm to 7pm. The Pear Martini is great. I also had the Southern Peach Tea, which was just OK. My favorite small plate was the Sliders, hands down the best I've had! Chicken Satays were pretty good too. If only based on decor and design, I'd give BLUE Bar 5 stars. Amazing chic furniture, great color theme and beautiful scener. However, my experience wasn't quite as stellar. Stopped by on a Tuesday night for happy hour. I phoned in beforehand to ask for the specials and the manager told me he's busy and don't have time to tell me. Automatic -1pt. When you arrive, although it's complimentary valet, it's never really absolutely free. Park on the street just before the valet and walk 20 steps. Also, be sure to enter through the left side into BLUE Bar or else the hostess inside Brenner's Steakhouse to the right will get annoyed. -1pt. I arrive at 4:55pm and the place is deserted, probably because all but the only 3 workers are still setting up. We go outside to , and 1 lonesome bartender tells me it'll be a few minutes. 5:02 by my cell rolls around and the bartender tells me, "You can order now, but it won't be hh prices till 5pm." Although I said it's 5pm on my cell, she simply said, "No." -1pt. I ordered the house pretzels, which I imagine would be the closest taste to pure rubber, and the sliders, which were bland and tasteless. The $5 cocktails are made with premiums and taste great but they are all pretty girly and comes in small volumes. Overall, great decor, terrible rude service, bad food, good cocktails only for girls, and terrible for Houston summers. I will only return for business or formal events. Add me to the number of fans for happy hour at BLUE! I had a chance to try out this patio bar yesterday with a couple of girlfriends for happy hour & was truly impressed. It's not your typical patio with dilapidated benches, street parking "view," and seedy characters. For once, Houston gets a decent sized outdoor space with comfortable outdoor furniture, ample shade, decent fans providing a good breeze, and a business crowd. And the view? Bayou to the front, a landscaped waterfall setting on one side, and more greenery on the other. Definitely easy on the eyes! As for our choice of libation, all of us ordered the Southern Peach Tea ( firefly sweet tea vodka, peach schnapps and fresh lemonade), a favorite of mine during the summer months. No complaints there, as the glasses were tall & the drink was well mixed. For my snack, I ended up ordering (wait for it...wait for it...) hand cut TRUFFLE fries! I know, my obsession with anything made with truffles is ridiculous, but what was I to do? How could I say no to hand cut fries served with black truffle aioli? And yes, it was delicious. The same could be said for their chicken satay and calamari. And did I forget to mention that during happy hour, one page of drinks and small plates were a paltry $5 each? My one and only complaint (and it's so minor, I hate to even mention it) is that there is only one bathroom (one stall) on the ground floor. To their credit, this restroom was immaculately clean and there is another set of restrooms upstairs. However, when one's had a few too many vodka lemonades, you don't exactly want to take the risk of climbing those set of wooden staircases. I'd rather wait in line on the first floor, thank you very much. Overall, I think BLUE is a definite winner for a happy hour spot during the coming summer months. And the fact that it's somewhat secluded from the other busy restos & bars make it more inviting to people who want to seek refuge from the crowds and the heat. The patio consists of a bar with stool seating, a reserved seating section and patio furniture scattered throughout the area. If you seek out Anje, you will not regret it! He's an awesome bartender that is very knowledgeable of all the menu items and is not afraid to offer his honest opinion. The crowd was a mixture of professionals in their mid-20s to mid-40s. Everyone was polite, respectable and happy. We tried almost everything on the $5 happy hour menu, but I highly recommend the pear martini, chipotle maple glazed quail and veal ricotta meatballs. In addition, I would try their crab cakes. They're the best I've ever had. One major drawback was the solo restroom situation, so be prepared to wait in line. This place is a hidden gem! As I drove down the dead end street I wasnt sure if to continue to where it says Brenner's Steakhouse because I was looking for "Blue...", well, its the same place. "Blue" is considered the outdoor area bar. I pulled up to the valet area, they opened my door and greeted me. I told the person that I would park the car myself and he insisted, "we park everybody's car, please allow me". That was njce of him and I allowed him to take my vehicle and park it. I still wasn't sure of where to go until I saw a sign that read "Blue" to the left of the building so I followed the stone trail...WOW, it will be my go to spot from now on. The view is amazing, the man made pond/waterfall, the gazebo towards the back, the bayou - very beautiful & romantic. The ambience is great. The people are nice, the drinks are good, the food is amazing but the prices are up there so it's best to go during happy hour (lol). We sat at the patio lower deck to have a better view of the bayou and surroundings. Unfortunately, after a few minutes of being there it started to rain so we moved to the upper deck (which is covered). The covered area is filled with TVs and space heaters (the Rockets game was on ). I ordered the shrimp scampi and it was delicious! ...afterwards ordered some whiskey, enjoyed the view, conversation and my cigar! Great place... So, Blue at Brenner's is the back patio/happy hour area at Brenner's on the Bayou. Like others have said, the ambiance is beautiful. I thought I'd be underwhelmed after hearing so many good things, but it was truly gorgeous. It doesn't even feel like you're in Houston. For happy hour eats ($5), we had the chicken satay, sliders, truffle fries and the bread pudding (not on the happy hour menu). Everything was pretty delicious! I thought the fries weren't too truffle-y, but if you are sensitive to that taste, then you'd probably want to avoid them (my husband was not a fan). The chicken satay was good...I really liked the peanutty dipping sauce. The portion was three small skewers though. Now, for the sliders, you get three, but those are some tasty suckers! It looks like they have gouda or muenster on them, as well as an onion ring. They were juicy and all around a winner. I also tried one of the little homemade pretzels from a friend's plate and thought those were good too. Bread pudding was nothing spectacular, I think you can skip it if you are iffy about getting dessert. It's not bad, but I just wasn't crazy about it. In terms of drinks, I had the pear martini, and then the southern peach tea. Both were good, but I preferred the pear martini. The pear flavor wasn't really strong, but it had St. Germain in it...delish! It's still a bit hot to sit outside here in August, so snag a table under the canopy if you can. There is not a prettier patio bar and happy hour spot in Houston!! This is as good as it gets. This bar is beautiful!! BLUE is the Patio Bar @ Brenner's on The Bayou. It opened in November and is probably just now going to start getting really busy since the weather is finally so nice. The patio has tons of couches and chairs surrounding a few fire pits, along with some stool and high top seating. There is plenty of standing room around the actual bar. There is waitress service so you do not have to go to the bar every time you want a drink. The patio overlooks the Bayou and a huge "yard" with beautiful landscaping and even a gazeboo for weddings or other events. The drinks were strong and good and the service was great too. I can not wait to come here for Happy Hour. We heard it gets really packed on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The happy hour menu has tons all for $5.00!! Whohoo! Blue at Brenner's is an experience. I had an incredible time at a friend's going away gathering during happy hour and will definitely return again. He'd reserved a small section at the very back of the patio overlooking the bayou and we sat there for hours nibbling on appetizers and sipping champagne. You would never suspect such a trendy and scenic place would exist where it does--behind a steakhouse and in front of a beautifully manicured lawn! The best part is they have awesome happy hour deals. The bar menu features a list of fine cocktails, wines, and small plates for only $5 during happy hour! My favorite cocktail is the pear martini. There's also two beers that are $3 during happy hour as well. The small plates are portion-wise not as big as Benjy's but the quality of the food is fantastic (since, you are after all at a 5 star restaurant). The patio furniture kind of reminds me of South Beach Miami. It's very contemporary and there is tons of seating. It's all outdoor seating here, but it's such a nice environment that I don't mind sweating a bit in the Houston heat to be here. And the craziest thing about this place? So along comes my 3rd year wedding anniversary and I desperately crave the Brenner's Godiva chocolate souflee we enjoyed for our first year wedding anniversary. But ALAS, we were not pleased with the food/pricing from Brenner's steakhouse. What to do, what to do? Here's what: go to Blue at Brenner's during happy hour and enjoy some awesome martinis and sit on the awesome patio and order only the souflee from the kitchen. I had 2 pear martinis that were delicious and gave me just enough of a light buzz to happily ignore the judgmental looks being shot our way from the white conservative crowd. Why were they judging you Mariah, you ask? You and Diego are a lovely couple, you exclaim! Because here, everyone is trying to impress everyone else and talking about their awesome jobs that they love ::coughs::hates::coughs::. And we just wanted to eat souflee, drink martinis and be merry and in love. Even the waitresses acted high and mighty, which is probably because they are only interested in giving good service to men without wedding rings talking too loudly about their well paying job. And that, my friends, is why Blue gets 4 instead of 5 stars. My husband had the Fresh Berry Martini and it was OK, but my Pear Martini tasted more fresh, less syrupy. Happy hour was ending as we arrived, but I'll definitely be back to try a few more martinis. The coconut cream pie sounds like it would pair well with my souflee or those ice cream sandwiches David N. was raving about. And no surprise that the souflee was orgasmic, AGAIN. Visiting from New Jersey and heard some decent things about this place from the locals. Don't come here if you're hungry. Spent $10 on three, three inch empanadas, and $10 on my "fresh fruit martini" which tastes like pure vodka and fruit syrup, couldn't even finish it. And if you're not a fan of insects, don't sit on the lower deck or grass areas. We sat at a small round table in the corner facing the bayou, and all in the rails of the deck were webs with spiders in them. YUCK! Hidden gem on the bayou (hence the name) - on one of the small streets you pass almost everyday on Memorial. Street parking is available but you may have to walk a bit; otherwise, complimentary valet with tip. There's a gazebo and water fountain on the side of the bar - really cute decor in the restaurant (multiple stories high). Love their bar - reminds me of the blue lights at Blue Fish, but not as intense. There are heaters outside and fire furnaces which make for great warmth and coziness, but also high potential for things catching on fire. Guess it's been okay thus far. I love their happy hour here, 5-7PM on weekdays. $5 beers, wines, and cocktails! Their pear martini is delicious, with a tinge of sourness. My go to is their Cabernet, which is one of my favorites. As for bar food, I suggest: Truffle Fries with Black Truffle Aioli (might want to order 2 ... or 3), sliders (comes in 3), soft pretzels (mini ones with 3 different dipping sauces). Didn't get a chance to experience the Happy Hour at Blue because they were closed for a private party. I wanted to bring my daughter along with family and friends here to celebrate her 22nd Birthday. I called Blue on 10/27 to ensure they would be open to the PUBLIC and not CLOSED ON 10/29 because I did read here on yelp that they occasionally close the lounge for private events. I was told that they would be open and did not accept reservations as it was "first come first serve". Well guess what, myself, the birthday girl and 10 others arrived at 5:15 PM. only to be informed that..you guessed it! CLOSED FOR A PRIVATE EVENT! I asked to speak to the manager and was told she was not in. I asked the hostess why didn't they inform when I called 2 days earlier that the lounge would be closed. She told me "things come up, you can never tell with this place". They also told me they book private parties, weddings, and office parties without knowing 24 hours in advance. I am in the hospitality industry and I have never heard of anything so ludicrous! I was not pleased with level of customer service at all, and I expect better from a Landry's owned establishment! I will also be sending the Landry's corporation an email as well! We ended up going to another well known Happy Hour Spot in the Village and they made accommodations for us and treated us amazing! We should have just went there first because I can always rely on them for great service and food. I was told by your staff that they have the ability to see on their computer the dates your lounge is not open to the public, my advice to your management would be to train your hostesses to actually LOOK AT THE COMPUTER AND CHECK THE DATES! Brenner on the Bayou is a scenic steakhouse overlooking the Buffalo Bayou. Blue at Brenner's is the patio lounge attached to the steakhouse. Valet parking at the restaurant is free. The patio has a dining area with tables as well as a lounging area with sofas for a cozier atmosphere. For the hot summer afternoons, there are several ceiling fans spread around to keep the air flowing. They have a full menu and inexpensive drink options. My friends love that I find all the cool places to take them for Happy Hour. Thank you yelp for hooking a sista up! I received the #1 coolest greatest smartest friend award for this little find :) I thought this place was fabulous. I called ahead to make sure that Happy hour would be accommodated inside if it was raining. The gentleman on the phone was So helpful and even said, 'we look forward to seeing you this afternoon" GOTTA LOVE THAT HOSPITALITY! My group arrived and we were greeted by girls in blue dresses which told us to find a table, because there was a private party that had taken up all of the couches. Our waitress (who was the bartender) was super friendly and service was good. We had numerous people stop by to clear plates and ask if drink refills were wanted. LOVE GOOD SERVICE. We ordered the $5 Sliders(BOMB!!) the chicken satay (good) and the truffle fries(super yum) with the aioli mayo. All were good and we did not leave feeling hungry at all. I had the pear martini which was good, but did not really taste like pear, more like lemon with a slight floral note from the elderberry. But for $5 it was good enough for me. alas... i have to update my review since i was disappointed during my last visit sometime last month. once upon a time this was my 'go-to spot' for lounging, drinking and snacking al fresco. since then it has fallen from its lofty position to the jagged rocks below... what happened? i'm so sad to report that this place has gravitated to the dreaded 'overrated' status IMHO. the main dining room might be a different story but out in the lounge... i realize that it all comes out of one kitchen and two of the three appetizers we ordered were very salty indeed. the wait staff was still excellent (alexa, you were the saving grace in all this) and our server tried very hard to compensate for the kitchen. she tried to be creative despite the limitations of the kitchen by providing a vegetarian-friendly dish (for my woman) since the latest offerings they had on the menu were uninspired, the ambiance is still unique and unmatched. dear management, please don't rest on your laurels and provide more quality control! the not so good: - too salty on the asparagus - need other options on the provided flat breadsticks that were salty the good: - our server, alexa (see above) - great ambiance (see above) - bacon wrapped quail (see photo) - egg sunny side up topper on the asparagus (see photo) - pimento spread (see photo) - crispy bacon next to the salty asparagus (see photo) read more

Oh Blue.. I love you. :) Yes, a HH with a beautiful landscape surrounding you. I attended happy hour for this visit. The valet was super nice. Yusif was really sweet and guided me to the entrance of the Blue... he told me to follow the black fences and it will lead me to the bar. I walked around the corner to find my friends laughing and sipping on signature cocktails at this beautiful patio. It was their first time there as well so just seeing how happy they were about the place, i knew I was going to enjoy my experience here. Drink to try: 1. Argentine Twist - refreshing cocktail. 5/5 2. Margarita - average tasting, reminded me of lemonade though. 2/5 3. Southern Peach tea - it was one of those "i dunno but i like...." drinks. 4/5 Happy Hour bites: 1. Fries with truffles. 5/5 Tasted like duck fat fries. 2. Calamari - 4/5. a handful of calamari w/ shrimp and sweet potato chips. 3. Sliders - 2/5. a bit salty. Not bad but not good. 4. Meatballs - meat tasted dry and the bread tasted stale 1/5 OVERALL, get the truffle fries. It won't fail you. Definately come here for HAPPY HOUR. The ambiance is breathtaking. The people were beautiful as well. River-oaksy crowd. Service was great at first but once it got busy they catered more to the large groups.
