This bar is fun and weird. Great place to hang out when you are downtown. No food, but the service was good, but it differently a dive bar.

Stopped in for a drink after leaving The Punchline. Entering the bar wasn't the most welcoming, but I was curious to see what they offered and check out the atmosphere. The bar is dark and moody, with plenty of space, tables and booths, good music, and a very distinct vibe. I tried the Smoke Show and Something Sweet, and the Smoke Show was definitely the better of the two. Overall, the bar was okay, but not quite enough to make me want to return. If you're into dark, moody bars with skeleton decor, rock/alternative music, and a little edge, this might be your place. read more

Everyone who knows me knows I love Guinness and I'm also not one to complain. I'll overlook a lot in the name of dive bar charm. BUT THIS? This warrants a post @thedirtbar Ended up at The Dirt Bar expecting a straightforward pint and was served what only can be described as an incomplete pour...heavy on foam, light on actual beer....presented with with full confidence for $10. When I questioned it, I was told to talk it up with the manager...only for no one to claim that role and the situation be treated as entertainment rather than service. At that point, it stops being "dive bar personality" and starts reading as a lack of basic standards. I paid, I tipped, and now following through. If youre in the market for unfinished pours, full foam, and a philosophical approach to management, this is your place. If you actually want a proper Guinness, I'd suggest continuing your search. read more

I wouldn't have expected a bar like this where it's located. Near the House of Blues and a short walk from Toyota Center, you mostly see upscale places, not dark, no frills, cheap drinks establishments. Bartenders are friendly and the drinks are pretty strong. Last time I went the music was defeaning-- like you couldn't hear what anyone else was saying if you tried. Parking is a bit difficult, but that's the problem with that entire area. Not much you can do with all of those paid lots and garages. read more

It's a fun and funky bar right across from House of Blues, so perfect for an after concert drink. The decor makes me think of pirates with the lantern candles dangling from the ceiling and the skeletons around the room. My friend and I found a comfy booth to sit in, and she ordered our drinks at the bar. The drinks were good, and we had a good time. read more

Dirt Bar is located right across the street from The House of Blues and seems to be the before and after event hangout. Recently, I've attended more and more shows at HOB and there is only a handful of places to pregame right next to the venue. This place is dark. Even in the daylight hours it's dark. To keep up with the dark theme, they have a giant skeleton as well as other spooky decorations. The music when I have been has always been some heavy metal played at the highest volume setting. Maybe I'm getting old, but I would like to see and hear when I hang out somewhere. Customer service was good. The bartenders are always pleasant. In my opinion, the drinks are ok but kind of high priced for what you get. Just within a stones throw from here, you have some pretty amazing cocktail bars that sells their drinks for similar prices. Dirt bar does have specials, so keep an eye out for those. I'm sure I'll be back at some point. read more

So I'm going to preface some reviews I'm about to write with the following: My brother & I were on a road trip from St. Petersburg, FL to Fort Worth, TX. These are the places we hit along the way. I can't decide if I should give this dive bar homage by rating it 5 stars, or honor it with a dive down rating of 1 star. On the one hand, it's a great dive bar. It's also right across the street from the House of Blues, so if you can't handle Dirt, you have another option, close at hand, for liquid libation. Dirt is dark. Not in the emotional sense, but the literal. It's an open, cavernous, space, with the bar in the middle of said space. Our bartender was friendly and efficient. So as I write these words I just remembered something, we were charged for ICE. So if you want your liquor on the rocks, be prepared for an up charge. So should I take away a star? Nah, just another aspect of the dive bar. Bottom line: At first I thought they only had one, gender neutral bathroom. The I learned the pipes had frozen and one restroom was closed. We were there during that freak winter storm that hit the south. read more

We were in town for National Athletic Trainer Convention. This was near the hotel within a short walk. Found a gem of a place here. Veronica and her teammates did a super awesome job! I never had to wait to place my order. My final tab was accurate. The prices were not outrageous. I always was served with a pleasant smile. It very convenient when you work across the street. They know me so well. I'm a regular. Dirt bar is my place to go to decompress after work. I enjoy people watching when people exit from a concert. The bartenders are fantastic and they sling drinks so fast when people come in after concerts. Yes..it may take a lil while but listen there's literally only 4 bartenders at most when x amount of people come out of a concert. So quit whining. Security is great. Always checks IDS. Some days they have food and then the Tamales dude comes too. Not a fan of the pizza truck across the street. It's really hard to describe this place. People call it a rock bar (true, all they play are rock, alt-rock and metal), some call it a dive (but with the cleanest restrooms in the city!), some call it the "see and be seen place," others come here in hopes of not being seen. It's a tough call, Dirt, but I love you. I've had many o' "mid-work" memories here. And by "mid-work," I mean working til 5am in a hot office and taking a break in my 15-hour day to try and make last call. Half the time we never actually made it back to the office; so I guess it was more an after work spot. True, there are there are a few dudes rockin' guyliner and the occasional badass chick who looks akin to a Suicide Girl (man, I want to be her), but there are also a few fellas sportin' khaki shorts and chicks like me who live life on the edge in flip flops and a ball cap. But do you really care what others are wearing? It's all about having fun, people--let loose and don't give a flip what others think. Speaking of "flip," Tuesday is "Coin Flip" night. The bartender flips a coin. If you guess heads/tails right, drink is on the house. I really don't care if I get it right or not, so long as the bartender serving me is Andre. Ladies, he has got to be Houston's hottest bartender. Correction: He has to be the hottest man alive. Drool. I suggest ordering their signature Rim Job. Taste like Tang. Tang! Tang! Tang! Tang! (Total inside joke, but meet me at the Dirt and you'll get it.) If you ever catch a great concert for a national touring band, more than likely, you might catch these badasses after partying it up at the Dirt. Ahem, Dave Grohl, anyone? The staff is laid-back, owners are cool, like I said, restrooms are seriously clean, I always find parking in the lovely graveled parking lot and a stool at the bar. I'm pretty happy with this place. Side note: I once brought a group of male Aggies here. The dark walls and screaming music set them aback. From then on, they now refer to me as "vampire chick." First and foremost, they carry Art Car. This is a spectacular IPA, you can fight me. The space is open and a nice size. They have booths and they have a very cool area that's elevated with couches. Me and my friends stopped by here on NYE and there was a steady crowd. The bartenders were all dressed beautifully, and everyone was very nice. The music was between very hard rock, and maybe like Nirvana-ish? The decorations were fun and we had a really good time. I would definitely come back here. read more

I don't typically come downtown for drinks but I think I found a spot that I will keep bookmarked for whenever I find myself in the neighborhood. Disquised as a 'dive bar' Dirt offers anything you could ask for from a dive, sans the dirty bathroom. It's dark, the beats are on point, and I did not notice much of any douche-baggery while I was there. So to you Dirt Bar I say: way to keep it real. Thumbs up. read more

It's a great place plus they play some good music but it's not so loud you can't have a conversation. It's not fancy so if that's what your after then skip but if you want a dark dungeon-y vibe then this is a winner. read more

I've been here once a while back and keep meaning to come back, since it's a pretty nice bar! The vibe inside is pretty chill and clean (despite the name of the bar!) and I definitely appreciate the jukebox being metal-focused - managed to find some cool stuff on there that I was not expecting to see! My fiancee enjoyed her cocktail and the beer selection was OK as well. When I was there, it was pretty empty, so that was a little deflating after a while. That being said, we were there pretty early, so I guess maybe it picks up later in the evening :) Honestly, I probably elevated the bar an extra star because of its focus on metal music, but I would definitely recommend people come here and check it out. I'm always in search of a good dive bar and I've been hearing about this place from a few friends that tour, so I knew this would be the place to hit up while in downtown Houston. If this is a dive bar, it falls more into a high end dive bar. I see it's listed also as a lounge so yeah, it has booths and couches so it's a little loungey also. I love the grey walls as well the candle lights... all over! It's very silique and sophisticated while still holding onto the dive aspect that will make me want to keep coming back. Veronica took really good care of us all night. She asked if we were there for the show (HOB across the street). Nope, we were just hanging out. She offered us tix for the show, so we accepted... then came back after the show to end the evening. The music is an internet jukebox. It rocked all night. read more

It is great if you're into the grungy rock star scene . The bar brings back true rock and roll living. You might spot an old rocker from Total Chaos maybe even the guys from Social Distortion partying it up at The Dirt. The music is heavy, it creates an atmosphere of decadence. The perks: The VIP room has a built in stripper pole. The bar has just been expanded and they added a second bar and room for you to play in, which creates more trouble making and more fun. The owner Sean is very down to earth and will be more then happy to take a shot with you. The door guys are always very nice. You might spot a famous rocker, if a good hard rock band comes through Houston, chances are high they will party at The Dirt. The bartenders are HOT!!!!!! read more
