I ordered a shakerato, which I think is my usual here, and it was light, smooth, and the perfect pick me up. My friends grabbed a few pastries and absolutely devoured them, so I guess I need to try the food options next time. My beloved Boomtown RIP. This pains me to write. Different is certainly not always better, especially when what you had was already working. I much prefer the saying if it ain't broke don't fix it. To the people who bought this place, I know your motto is "different is better," but please stop taking that so literally. You do not have to change every aspect of this place to make it different. The best thing about getting your everyday local coffee is seeing the same baristas you've seen over and over again, familiar faces who know you by name. This was one of those places where I'd hate to admit how much money I've spent here, and I did it happily. In just three weeks, our beloved spot, one I would willingly drive out of my way for, has gone so far downhill that I barely recognize it. From the eyesore taco warmer that practically knocks you in the face while you're ordering, replacing a space that once showcased lovely things like fresh flowers and local trinkets, to the disappearance of the wonderful local treats from Sinfull Bakery that kids genuinely enjoyed. At first I thought maybe you were just out, but after three weeks it became clear that expenses were being cut across the board and those items may never come back. And where do I even begin. The new oat milk is terrible. It completely changes the look and taste of the coffee and is immediately noticeable. I won't harp on the change of hours or the change in flavor of your coffee beans, but I feel it must be mentioned because, well, it's noticeable. And now the cleanliness. Spilled taco sauce all over the floor, and when your kid points it out, you know you're in trouble at that point. Dishes piled so high they're overflowing, dirty restrooms. And to be clear, this isn't the staff's fault, there is simply not enough staff to keep up with these things. Never ever in seven years of being a frequent visitor has it been this bad. I also noticed the new coffee packaging, and it's just another reminder that the heart and thoughtfulness that once defined this place are gone. At this rate I half expect robots handing me my latte in a few weeks so you can save a few more bucks. And getting rid of Toast. Even if Toast was an expensive platform to use, it was legitimately so convenient. And dang, if you're going to do away with it, don't replace it with the worst possible ordering system ever, one that doesn't even work. Do you know how many orders I wouldn't have placed if it weren't for Toast? Toast made those orders possible when I didn't have time to wait. Without it, I simply wouldn't have ordered. I understand times are tough for many businesses, but you all were booming. The new online ordering system doesn't work. You may as well do away with it altogether because this one just isn't it. Honestly, I am devastated. You knocked it out of the park in every area, cleanliness, service, food. I never had a single bad item on the menu. The coffee was beyond. When my family moved out of the city a year and a half ago, I still drove 35 minutes one way just to get your food and coffee, over an hour round trip again and again. I don't think you understand how this new direction has driven this place into the ground in a matter of three weeks. Sadly all good things must come to an end. read more

Boomtown coffee brews me away! Their coffee is one of my favorite in Houston. Their espresso drinks are smooth and bold without being overly acidic or bitter. My favorite is the The Spectre made with espresso, agave, and spices. While it is a little bit on the sweeter end, the spices are an intriguing change from classic iced espresso drinks. This might sound a little strange but get the coffee cube or "crack rock" as I like to think of it. While it is an extra $2 (heck, you're already paying an arm and a leg for a drink anyway, may as well go all in) the ice cube prevents your iced drink from getting diluted with slow sipping. YES! Hey, you could even add a little milk once your drink is half full and get another round. Yesterday when I visited the barista was a little bit unfriendly when I asked if The Spectre was on the menu. They have multiple columns on their menu with many different drinks and he just replied, yes, it is. It would have been nice if he provided a bit more direction such as it's listed in the house lattes section or the right side of the menu, instead of staring at me as I scanned and scanned the menu. I'm going to look past this as the drink was so good and came out quickly after ordering. read more

They have a new staff that never greets you and keeps you waiting at the register without any acknowledgment. The owners don't respond back when you send an email to complain. They ALSO ignore you. I used to go here all the time but no more. I'll never go back. They don't even put their prices on the menu. Nowhere can you find their outrageous prices. AVOID Boomtown. It's horrible now with bad coffee and worst customer service ever! Bring back your old staff and ways of treating customers as well as your coffee. read more

Fantastic coffee and Breakfast taco here! Got there around 10am on a Saturday and didn't take long to order, but after we ordered, the line was super long! I think that is the flex time when they get really busy on the weekends. I ended up getting the mushroom and sweet potato breakfast taco. It was so big and just amazingly delicious! The flavors were so good that I didn't miss not having meat at all. One thing I will say about the latte is that it was super strong. I had the specter which was almost like a chai. I'm used to lattes being a little on the lighter side when it comes to caffeine, but this was very strong and also very big! Definitely a must try if you're into cafés and want good food and good coffee. They also have outdoor seating, which was nice although the chairs may need a good cleaning. No complaints though because they have a benches as well. Parking wasn't bad either but again that might be because we came kinda early. I waited in line for close to 5 min at the 19th street location and both baristas just looked at me and ignored me while I waited to place an order. I was the only one in line. You would think they would have enough sense to say "Hi, I'll be right with you", or "Good morning, I'll be right with you". NO, nothing. They seemed to have changed their entire staff because this new staff is not friendly AT ALL! Another thing is that there is absolutely no prices on any of their coffee drinks. They have a board listing the coffee drinks but no prices. What gives there? I miss the old Boomtown Coffee and I am not sure I will not go back. I came in around 8-9 on a Friday morning and there was a line upon entering, wait time was about 5-8mins. I ordered a mixed berry oat bar I saw in the display counter once you get to the register and a Mayan Mocha latte. The oat bar was very pleasant as it had fresh berries in it as well as a nice jam so it did have a tartness to it but it was well balanced with the oats. The Mayan mocha latte was described as dark chocolate,vanilla and cayenne. I couldn't really taste the dark chocolate but it still did have a sweetness to it and wasn't very bitter like regular coffee, however the cayenne was very noticeable which is a good thing because the drink it sweet then it has a slight kick to it which is different if that's something you're into. Overall it was a nice visit, however be aware there is a cigar smell that lingers from next door since there is a cigar shop/lounge next door but I know that's something they have no control over. read more

This was neat little cafe where I spent some time this morning while I waited for my doctor's appointment to arrive. The doctor's office actually recommended this cafe the last time that I came to see them. My initial impression was great. They have very comfortable chairs and large tables for people to do whatever they need to get done. I sat down with the matcha latte that came with their authentic house honey matcha. I was handed an actual ceramic coffee mug, not some paper cup that they chain coffee stores give you. I killed some time and it was a decent experience without the crazy crowds of customers and super loud music that always gets on my nerves. Man... I hate to say this because this place was the best in like 2017. The vibes are off. The WiFi doesn't work. The outlets don't work. It's cold. Seating isn't comfortable. The coffee used to be so, so good, like the best in town. Now it's whatever. Love isn't really put into it. They kicked out the originator of the company, and he now operates Little Dreamer Coffee in Houston which I would highly recommend. In fact, I will go ahead and say this - my personal hope is that a better coffee company like Little Dreamer comes in and wipes out Boomtown and puts some love back into this spot. I love tacos and I love tea. I never thought about blending them together til I visited here then Boom ! I'm put on to a new craving. The freshness of the food was amazing. With the tea I tasted every note and nothing was overbearing, just wish I was offered a larger size because it went too quick. My biggest nuisance had nothing to do with the actual food and beverage but more so the wobbling table and limited access to sockets to charge my laptop but the food and tea was so refreshingly good, it overpowered that. I recommend this place and the parking was done with ease either directly in front or across the street open gravel parking lot. So recently I have been coming here more often after dropping my son off at school because I can just order from the Toast app and park easily and pick it up. The parking is in front of the store or across the street on the side of the road and there is also a large parking lot. Drinks have always been hot and made to order. The coffee is very strong and I love that I have the choice of picking decaf (which BTW still has some caffeine in it) so I still get my kick just not one that knocks me on the floor or sends me to the bathroom immediately. Baristas are amazing and can make great milk foam/steam art on your coffee (I had a heart today and didn't take a picture-whoops). The only hold up usually is the food so I would definitely order ahead or be prepared to wait a little bit. It is always tasty though. read more

Cashless pay Only accepts apple pay. I used to come here pretty often back when i lived in Houston. I dont care how good it used to be, if I cant actually buy it, its the same as being terrible/ inept. I left my physical wallet at home and only had cash and google pay. Never beg a business to take tour money. Its like giving them.peission to treat you however they want, usually like a door mat. Plenty of business nearby that served coffee. RIP Boomtown. Have been going few times a month for multiple years but the new management has killed it for me. They changed the menu and eliminated the excellent Veggie Taco vegan option. The avocado toast has gone from being excellent with ton of sprouts, nuts, and great lemon oil topping to having much less of all those things on it. The coffee itself still tastes great but they used to have reliable latte art from the friendly baristas and now it is super spotty like today with no attempt even being made. Everything smells of cost cuts. Really bummed because this was our 'go to' always reliable spot but will have to move on to other options now. read more

An unassuming coffeeshop native to Houston serving up breakfast tacos that you can't skip. Their variety of coffee concoctions on their menu speaks for itself, but I'd be amiss if I didn't say that the breakfast tacos are what pull me back here every time. The house lattes are all fantastic, I opted for the Mayan Mocha and the Milk & Honey this time around. Their custom concoctions are so fun and break the monotony of the morning ritual (I highly recommend the Shakarato). The staff is friendly and will guide you through their concoctions if you need help. On to the breakfast tacos - I think the Sausage Egg & Veggie and Potato Egg & Cheese might be my two favorites, but it's so hard to pick. They are all so unique and bring breakfast taco ingredients together in the most wonderful way. From the potatoes to the breakfast sausage, you can tell the care that goes into each individual component of these tacos. Their corn tortillas are special and bring everything together. Even if you're in a rush or are just looking for a single cup of coffee, you need to pick one of these up - I can't stress this enough. Overall, a quick and casual cafe to be in-and-out of or sit down at to do some work. The ambiance is at a moderate decibel level and it's easy to focus here. Hear me out, I was so sick of getting Starbucks that I decided to scout for a local spot near my office. What unfolded next would shock even the most liberal of liberals. I wish I could give this place no stars at all. It clearly stated online that they were open at 6:30 am. We walked in, fresh from our workout, desperate for our daily dose of caffeine. The lights were on, the door was unlocked, and there were people behind the counter. We naturally assumed they were open for business. But then, the bulldog behind the counter barked at us - not literally, but it felt like it with her tone, "We're not f***ing open! Look at the time on the door!" We were taken aback, trying to explain, "Well, Google said you were open at 6:30." In disbelief, we returned to our cars, and in what might have been the most effort she exerted all year, she stormed outside to point at the faded, barely legible hours printed on the door in what must have been size 6.9 font. We wanted to support a small business, but with that kind of attitude, they deserve to have no business at all. We ended up at Starbucks, where we were greeted with smiles, treated with great service, and served decent coffee. This local place could have had two new daily customers, but they failed spectacularly, earning an F- with no chance for a retake. It's infuriating to see such potential for community support squandered by sheer incompetence and rudeness. read more

Spacious quick serve coffee spot. My ice latte was quick and tasty and added lavender syrup to it. I also got an avocado toast which was delicious and light enough to fill you up but not too much as it was hot and didn't want to be too full on a hot day. The quiche however took way too long about 40 min. I think it was forgotten as our number was taken away and we got a slice not a whole which should've been quick. I've only ever tried one thing here and stuck to it because it checked all my iced coffee boxes haha... but I absolutely love the "Crud" coffee from here. It tastes deep and rich, also strong, I add a coffee cube sometimes because a barista suggested it to me once. It's a bit on the pricey side however, the consistency I've experienced and how good the drink was it is not a bad thing. My friend and I decided to pop in this past Saturday. It was packed, so we had to wait a bit for our drinks. Your food is brought out to you so I sat at a table as he waited for the drinks. I ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk and he ordered a flat white. The matcha latte was good but I could have used more taste. The flat white was good but my friend did not like it. We also ordered food. I ordered the quiche and he ordered the potato, egg, and cheese taco and a chorizo egg taco. The food was better than the drinks! My quiche was really good and I would order it again if ever back here. The tacos were good and huge! They also make their corn tortillas in house and they are amazing.
